We came to have some appetizers that were supposed to be 50% for Happy Hour according to their website, but when we got there, the waitress (who barely spoke English) told us that there is no longer a Happy Hour menu. There were but three tables of patrons, but it took her a while just to get us water. May update this review after we have a taste of their empanadas. read more

Las Tablas is a lovely Colombian restaurant on the corner of Irving Park Rd & Laporte. Their dining area is very spacious, with plenty of tables open for us to dine in. We were seated right away but unfortunately that was the only thing that was fast. They're service was very spotty, and felt they could have done way better. After they sat us down we didn't get any water for at least five minutes. Our server was very friendly, but was forgetful throughout the evening. We had to ask for our silverware after we received our food, she said she was going to bring us more water and never did, and even apologized that she took long to give us our limes event bough we never asked for any, which tells me she wasn't messing up on other tables as well. And there was a long wait in between getting the check and and her finally returning to get the payment. My wife ordered their Matrimonio, which came with my all time favorite skirt steak, ajillo chicken, yuca, potatoes and fried sweet plantains. The skirt steak was very tender and seasoned perfectly. I ordered their Bandeja Paisa, which comes with a little bit more food than the Matrimonio, except instead of skirt steak, you get a Colombian style cut char broiled rib eye. It was also very tender and tasty. The dish also came with fried pork belly, chorizo, rice, beans, sweet plantains, and avocado. A very filling dish indeed. The chorizo was also tasty, and different than the Mexican chorizo I'm used to. The pork belly was chewy and not as tasty as I had hoped. Despite the tasty food, it came at a very high price. There's actually another Colombian place that serves the same dishes for a whole lot less. And with better service. I wouldn't mind returning and giving this place another try, hoping they fix their customer service issues. read more

Simply the Best! On believable food, service, and ambience! For my money, I would much rather have a steak at this beautiful establishment then spend three times as much at a fancy steakhouse. Like Gibson's. The flavor is undeniable! Check your server well they took good care of you! one of my favorite Chicago venues in the sister location in Lakeview. It is also wonderful. read more

Just had a party of 6 for dinner, and service ok. Was disappointed with the food. The dishes were with skirt steak, and we ended up with A New York strip. Bar service was such a wait.....25 minutes for a coke? The table provided sauces were pretty tasteless. In the past they were so flavorful. The yuca served with steaks was so hard and dry, some pcs were barely cooked. A dish that was to have had a fried egg, was made with egg whites?! Probably our last time there read more

The food was excellent. It took them along time to take our order and I couldn't help but notice an older lady there with a service dog and they wouldn't take care of her because of the dog so she got up and left. they don't give you anything to munch on until your food gets there so I kinda asked and see if they had any bread for the table so they gave me some little fried plantain potato chips with some sauces until the food came, which was about at least 45 minutes . They also said they had to tell us the price before we ordered because they assumed that I could not pay for it. A little pricey, but the food was good. read more

My friends and I prepared ourselves for a buffet/seafood feast at Seafood on the Table for Sunday lunch, but it was mysteriously closed with no information on the door or website. Fortunately, Las Tablas came to the rescue down the street! It's a somewhat dark restaurant with plenty of seating (especially group tables) and would be perfect for a dinner setting. They have a guy singing and playing an instrument on the side of the restaurant. Almost all of the menu titles are in Spanish, so you have to look at the descriptions if you don't know how to read Spanish. I wish I retained more of what I learned in my high school Spanish class years ago. APPETIZER - Empanada Combo Plate (6 empanadas) ($15.00): We each ordered two empanadas, one beef and one chicken. They're Colombian empanadas and pretty tasty, especially with the three dipping sauces provided. I prefer the beef one more. ENTREES - Picada Mar y Tierra ($65.00): This is a combination of the most popular Colombian food. It might not seem like a lot of food at initial glance, but don't be fooled. It was enough to feed three hungry girls, and we still had leftovers. The dish has skirt steak (their house specialty), pork loin, chicken breast, grilled shrimp, calamari, baby octopus al ajillo, homemade chorizo, pork ribs, arepa, crunchy green plantain, sweet plantain, yuca, and potato. The food was pretty good, and meat was tender. The service was decent but a few times seemed somewhat slow. However, it was a relatively positive experience overall. read more

Service sucked. Waiter brought the wrong meal and refused to come to our table when we wanted to send it back. He ignored us completely. Many times he was nearby as I waved frantically to get his attention. He never once glanced our way. I even flagged down another waitress and bus boys but none followed through in getting him to come back over. He wasted plenty of time cajoling with the bar tender and other guests. I was just about finished with my meal by the time he decided to show up and argue that my daughter's meal was what we ordered. It wasn't skirt steak. It was some mystery meat. Finally he took it back and brought what she wanted. When I got my left overs which also took forever to return, he switched the meat! Skirt steak doesn't have bones....I do not recommend this place. They turned a leisurely dinner into a frustrating irritating experience. I felt insulted and ignored. I was taking my daughter out because she has been nursing a sick cat. This was neither fun nor enjoyable for either one of us. I suggest you stay away completely. read more

Delicious food, subpar service. The patacones and the auras were delicious. The chicharrón, too! Nice, sunny place if you go for the happy hour, 2-6pm as the windows face south and lots of nice daylight. Speaking of happy hour, good luck actually getting the happy hour prices for drinks and the appetizers. Our waiter seemed to not understand any of the questions we had for him (we are bilingual English/Spanish, so it wasn't a language barrier...maybe it's because he had AirPods in while he was talking with us....) and told us all apps were half price. Not true. Only some are, but this is only published on the drink menu. The food is so worth it-the meats taste better than any Argentine steakhouse we have tried in Chicago. However, the restaurant needs to work on getting friendly, competent waitstaff who can listen and explain the menu and prices. read more

The steak and side items that came with the entrees were AMAZING. My boyfriend and I went on Valentine's Day, so it was pretty busy, I almost felt cramped. It wasn't a bad atmosphere, if we had gone on a less busy night I might've enjoyed it more. There was live music, too, but the place was too loud for me to enjoy it. The waitress was barely able to take our order, though. I understand that it's a Colombian restaurant and it was busy so maybe she was the only person who could tend to us, but even when she understood what we wanted it took a while for her to punch it into their system on the little touchpad before we could order something else. Great food, not so great service read more

Went for dinner with my daughters this evening and the service was horrible like no body wanted to take care of us since the minute we got there! Second they didn't bring us the order complete and third I ask for my steak medium rare and they brought it well done both steaks! We spend like $135 and barely got any attention from the staff! We had to be trying to catch their attention so they can come to table. Even the family next to us had to stand up twice to get help! Never going back there again ever! I've always liked this place. Having said that, things now are double what they used to be and that's fine. But I ordered 12 empanadas and only received 1 little container of chunky sauce for 6. Are you kidding me?! I called because I thought it must be a mistake but the woman who answered the phone said that 2 was correct. 1 for an order of 6. I will try to request more next time ... she didn't say anything about asking for more. I'm sure it would cost more but she didn't say how much. I may just order from somewhere else. Ruined my moms 70th Birthday! The server was extremely rude! From the moment I got there he was giving "I don't want to be here vibes." I had a party of 10 for my mom's 70th birthday that she was very much looking forward to. My cousin preforms at this restaurant all the time, so I thought I was making a good pick. The waiter was not attentive and would disappear for a long time. I had to ask for him numerous times. Took a long time to get drinks. Seemed like no one knew what to do. No supervisor present so there was no one to address the issues. We were told he was in the basement and never surfaced. Plates weren't cleared, I had to take plates to the counter myself. Very frustrating. We ordered empanadas combo, we were not told which ones were which so we asked and that seemed to annoy our waiter. Drinks were forgotten and charged on bill. Overcharges on bills that we had to have corrected. We were not compensated for any of the inconvenience and there was no manager or anyone in charge to address the waiter or the terrible experience. We drove over an hour to this place and it was not worth it! Extremely disappointed with how everything turned out. I couldn't even eat I was so upset. We planned to stay for the music (DJ) and drinks but after how we we're treated, we had no choice but to leave! There was no way I was going to spend anymore money at this place. read more

Did not disappoint! Went for restaurant week & YUM!!! Food was excellent. Everything came out HOT! It was super busy but the wait staff was able to keep up. They ran out of dessert but luckily had one Oreo cake left for us! Altho I was jonesing for the flan, it was lovely. They also forgot an appetizer but quickly corrected that. I saw other reviews saying their service wasn't to par but we really had no issues. Our waiter was attentive & chked in on us often. We never felt neglected. We also had several people bussing & clearing our table promptly. We were a table for two but most other tables were large parties of 6+. Maybe that's the difference? Idk, we had a great experience & the food was outstanding. Regarding our meal...I thought the beef empanadas were better than the fried pork belly bread patty thing, but I absolutely love empanadas. I'll always pick a cute meat pocket pie any day! The chicken soup could have been a meal on its own (no cup size here!); flavorful, hearty & comforting. We both had the skirt steak & chicken....omg, delicious! Both grilled & seasoned to perfection. I always fear ordering chicken b/c it's typically dry and over cooked. Idk how they did it, but the chicken was nice & tender. The side sauces help add even more flavor & juiciness (not sure if that's a word?). We also had a pitcher of sangria, happy that it wasn't overly sweet, I fear sweet drinks. It could have had more fruit in it but it's not why we were there, so it was perfect for what we wanted. I may try the margarita next time....but maybe not, the sangria was really nice. A++++ for restaurant week menu. read more

I was definitely way too harsh in my last review. I last came here a few years ago and it wasn't that memorable. We were in the mood for Latin food and we chose the Irving Park location. I grew up in this neighborhood so it's always nostalgic for me! Parking can be spotty especially on a Saturday night. Luckily there is a parking lot with pay to park. We made reservations and our table was ready right away. It was packed and the live music was very loud. It was too loud because we were sat literally right under the speaker. That didn't help but we chose to bite the bullet and be open to the experience. Service can be spotty. Our waitress was nice but we couldn't hear each other with the speaker above us. Our drinks took a while to come out. When they finally did, it was delicious. I asked for a Kiwi martini but they ran out of kiwi so I settled for mango. It was good! Chunks of mango with a good amount of alcohol. We ordered this monstrous plate(forgot the name) but it literally comes with everything! Steak, squid, shrimp, chicken, plantains-you name it! Our waitress asked if that was going to be enough for the 4 of us. It was HUGE. It was perfect for 4 and wayyyy too much for just 2. The food alone was a 4 star. They skimped on the steak but it was so tender, delicious and juicy! Overalll, stick with the steak, chicken and shrimp. Ambiance is okay, service is okay but the food is SO GOOD! read more

I went there last night with my family to celebrate a birthday. We were a party of 6 adults and 4 children. We arrived at 7:25 for a 7:30 reservation & were seated at about 7:50. Now the wait time to be seated was not the issue for us , nor was the food. The food was delicious, as always. My family and I have been loyal customers for 10+ years but last night was a slow motion train wreck. Our server (Pilar) had the absolute worst attitude from the beginning. Again the food was AMAZING! The service not quite so... Refills forget about it! My brother-in-law asked for a lemonade refill which he never got. If it wasn't for the pitchers of water he would've eaten his food without a beverage. I ordered a side of beans and rice and also did not get it. Our server's (Pilar) attitude really made our dining experience really really really unpleasant. She seemed annoyed when we requested or reminded her of things. It was a full house, I get that. But I strongly believe that as busy as it CAN get, it's very important to remain respectful and professional towards patrons at all times. read more

It was my girlfriend's birthday. We wanted to do something special for it, during this pandemic, so we ordered from here via GrubHub and picked out some items we were excited about trying. *AFTER* receiving the confirmation on the order and waiting the full amount of time for the delivery to arrive (per the messaging via the app), we received a call from Las Tablas. We figured it was to tell us they were running late. Nope! They called to tell us that there was a glitch and that NOT ONLY did the order from GrubHub never show up in their system but their kitchen was NOW CLOSED and they wouldn't be able to help us in any way this evening! I obviously expressed my concern and they said that they could give us some kind of credit. I said I didn't currently have time as I'd have to quickly call other nearby establishments to try and order something for my gf's birthday meal before THEIR kitchens closed. Solved (thanks Porretta's!) I called them 2 days later (the following Monday) to complain about what had happened and asked what could be done. The man I spoke with was very empathetic and assured me that he would speak with the manager and get right back to me (and took down my info). NO RESPONSE from him or them! HOW RUDE! I called them back ANOTHER 2 days later (that following Wednesday). I spoke with "Diana" who, again, was very empathetic to my situation and assured me that either the manager or the restaurant's actual OWNER would contact me back with something that could be done to make up for what had happened. Guess what? NO RESPONSE again! EVERYONE makes mistakes. But to add insult to injury by showing concern for what we went through and then to do NOTHING about it? INSULTING! (It should be noted that this lack of response = 16 days since the original order and no contact from their end) read more

First time here. The service was terrible on a Tuesday. We were a table of 5. I liked their lemonade but I had to wave over the waiter all night. A family of three that arrived later were served before us. We waited over an hour for our food. When the food arrived the food was dry and overcooked . We were begging other waiters for refills on water. Soon after we finished our waiter finally checked on us and asked if there was anything else we needed. We said just the check. He quickly took out the bill. My wife told him wow that you can do quickly. He apologized with a undisclosed mishaps in the kitchen. A expensive experiment. Never coming back read more

I have not been to this restaurant in years, but it was always wonderful. I spoke too soon. They forgot our appetizers, despite being reminded, forgot to bring us our check (again, after having being reminded twice), just to see that they charged us for side dishes we never received. They never asked us how we were enjoying our food during our meal. When we left after correcting the meal, I realized that they did not charge us the discount price for the drink of the day. Never going back again! read more

Came here for my moms birthday and made a reservation. We came in and we're told we had to wait for a table . Which is ok I headed to the bar for a drink. After waiting there didn't get attended even sitting there for almost 10 minutes. But I will say the whole dynamic of the experience was thanks to the wonderful guitar player and the charming server that served us. We tipped the guitar player to play us some songs, and also the pitchers of sangria was great for our group of 5. Food was delicious and cooked to my preference. My only critic is to make sure the guests waiting for a table are attended to and that wait time they could've made a sale on drinks. Wait is typical but bring your own bottle why not?! read more

I really wanted to enjoy Las Tablas more than I did. As soon as you step inside, you are welcomed with the sounds of live salsa music and the smell of delicious meat being cooked; both things I loved. My wife and parents also enjoyed the atmosphere, and put us all in a good mood. I was really looking forward to have a delicious steak dinner, unfortunately, the high that dinner started out with did not go higher from there, and actually took a downturn. Our friendly waiter got us water fairly quickly, and service was good at the beginning. We put in drink orders and an appetizer for the table (empanadas), and from there, we saw our waiter sparingly. My water was filled throughout dinner frequently enough, but there is clearly a staffing issue. I waited almost 30-40 minutes after finishing my meal to get my check, which is the longest I've waited. The salsa music only helped so far while I was waiting. No attitude issue at all, as everyone was great, which is good, however, definitely needed at least on more waiter/waitress that night. The empanadas I tried were both good. The chicken was tasty, and the beef was tender and flavorful. I ordered a steak and pork entrée, with the steak medium, and the rest of my table got chicken dishes, with my wife a side of steak that she ordered well done. Considering this is a steakhouse, I expected a juicy, tender, melt-in-your-mouth steak full of Latin flavor. What I got missed this mark. The steak was well the medium temperature I had asked for, with no sign of any pink, tender meat when I cut into it. In fact, the steak my wife got seemed closer to medium than mine, though, hers was still closer to medium well. The sauces served on the side were a must to combat the dryness of the bite. The flavor itself, though good, was over seasoned; again, the sauce here helping cut down some of the salt. The pork itself was overcooked and dry as well. My wife's chicken was tender and juicy, miles better than the steak, and my parents enjoyed their meals as well. It seems the chicken should have been my go-to meal. The drinks were decent, with the strawberry mojito being particularly good and refreshing. Overall, my parents and wife enjoyed the meal, but I left disappointed. Considering how much my parents enjoyed it, we may be going back, and maybe the next time, it will be better as it could have been an off night. If it was not for them, albeit, the music was great, I would not go back. read more

This place has been on my radar for awhile and I finally decided to go for Restaurant week! It could of been an off day but the service was slow. Anyone who has read my reviews knows that I am on a quest to find good eats at an affordable price! Lucky I came in the afternoon and got their lunch Menu. This place has an AWESOME Lunch special. For $10 you get their Enseña plate which is a 8oz skirt steak, rice, beans and a salad!!!!!!!!!!! This is ridiculous, the steak was juicy and flavorful! At this point you are probably wondering why I would rate this place 3 stars after describing this amazing lunch special. Well when I received my food I found a piece of plastic in my beans. I told the waitress and she apologized but didn't offer to give me a new plate of beans. That and the fact that our waitress hardly came to check our table. I will say that the steak was delicious! I would give this place another try. read more

I would have given a 5 star, but the service was awful. The food was good. The waiter brought us the wrong order, another waiter who brought the food over to my table spilled the steak juice and grease on my husband shirt and pants. The tables next to me all complained about the service. I ordered rice and beans, and they brought me burnt refried beans and white rice. The waiter wasn't all there.... I complained, and the waiter just blew me off. I didn't get a chance to make a complaint to the manager since I was rushing to leave. 0 STARS DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!! FOOD-not worth the garbage of a service they provide (overcooked steaks and cold food) STAFF-disrespectful and rude MANAGER-is even worse then the staff AMBIANCE-NONE SERVICE-was horrible, if you go there with a group. Plan on half of your table being served and the other half waiting for their plates. You want a drink? Plan on a 30 minute wait for that drink or a refill. If they make a mistake, it's not their fault, it's your fault. BILL-when you finally realize that the dining experience was horrible and you just want to run out of there, MAKE sure you check the bill, because you will be overcharged for something. Don't back down when the server tells you that the bill cannot be adjusted because the manager left for the day, that's a BS tactic and don't feel guilty not leaving a tip either. This place needs a reboot with new management and staff. I'm so disappointed at how disrespectful they were that I actually hope they go out of business. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. Terrible service, even when you have a reservation.

Food and overall presentation was great 5 stars. Entertainment was good, little loud for conversation at table. Service was weak, waitress was not attentive, no one provided water. No one took our drinks. Finally when we received service drinks took forever 1 cocktail they ran out of a soft drink mixer, they forgot the wine. Missing a part of food entree. No replenishment of sauces. They did not describe what type of empanada was what. They did not check on our table we constantly had to ask for service. When they refilled our soda drink they should provide a new glass not the old used glass that is unsanitary. There were plenty of servers not sure what happened. We could of had more food and drinks but our waitress did not check on us. Was not a great dining experience. I was also disappointed a few weeks ago I made reservations for my family for 13 guests they called 5 minutes before my reservation stating they had to cancel because the restaurant was closed. We already had our family at the restaurant. Total disappointment I don't think I'll be back. read more
