It was my boyfriend's grandma's birthday and we decided to try out Las Tablas. Upon coming in, no one was there to seat us so we decided to seat ourselves. We were never greeted. It took about 10 minutes for a waiter to come and serve us water. We waited about 10 minutes and he passed by our table again to say that he wasn't the waiter and that while we waited for our waiter, if we wanted any appetizers. We never got a menu and he apologized and gave us the menus after 10 minutes passed by. It then took about 20 minutes for a waitress to serve us. Mind you, there were only 3 groups in the restaurant. She attended us and we got our food about 30 minutes later. We got our appetizers and platters at the same time. Our drinks also took a long time to take. We got the Picada Colombiana. Everything was burnt. Especially the squid. Totally disappointed... not worth $65... Do not come to this location. The service is not up to par like other restaurants that I've been at. Came here for dinner and left before our drinks were even delivered. Despite the array of reviews, we came with an open mind. When we walked in we weren't greeted so we helped ourselves to the table. The waitress seemed less than enthused to be there and frankly made all of us feel super awkward. Honestly there are much better Colombian restaurants in the city. Those hole in the wall places like el llano and brasa roja (same ownership). Las tablas definitely has curb appeal but they lack in reasonable pricing given the food portions. I prefer the small places with daily specials. read more

We ordered delivery through Grubhub-firstly it took almost two hours and when we received it it was cold. We also tried to call the restaurant during open hours and no one picked up. For what it's worth, my fiancé got the combination platter which he said was delicious. I am a vegetarian, so I ordered the vegetarian tradiciones (described as: "Rice, beans, house salad, sweet plantain, fried yuca, avocado, and BBQ soy meat"). What I got: a small salad (nothing to write home about-romaine, cucumber, and tomato- but the veg was fresh), rice and beans (which was good), one cold soggy half of a plantain, two small pieces of yucca that were extremely overcooked (I couldn't get my fork into them), and, inexplicably, half a potato? No avocado. No soy meat. Everything was under-salted. Definitely unimpressed. I realize this is a steakhouse but they advertise a pretty decent-sized vegetarian section. read more

I love the food but I feel like the restaurant doesn't put as much thought or effort in their delivery customers, I had half my order missing and then had to wait 60 minutes to get the missing parts. My picada Colombia had Arepa missing , and the meat quantity was definitely less. I was missing my drinks, my extra Arepa, and my empanadas. Pulled up and got rock star parking on the side street of which this is located. Second, I didnt have to pay the meter since it was after 6....good start. So I ordered the combination Entrana and octopus. Both were tasty. I liked the green sauce that goes on top that is a mix of herbs and olive oil. One of the 2 has a little heat to it, but I dig it! The proteins were served with a yuca, half a baked potato and a fried plantain. I liked the starches on the plate, but was not a fan of the plantain....not because I dont like cooked plantains, rather it was not that ripe. So all in all it was a good meal for about $20.00 The only grip I have is they didnt have any green veggies to replace the starches with. Good food, enormous bright and clean space. I love the Entrana Skirt Steak and the Pollo al Ajillo. I would give this place 5 stars because it really is amazing, but since i'm not a huge fan of Yuca or Plantains, 4 stars it is. If you're like me, then order a side of rice and beans. The appetizer Papa Chorriada is simple but good-it's pretty much a baked potato covered in some sauce with cheese. After hearing about this place on the show Best Bites, I decided to give it a try. The skirt steak is truly the house specialty as reviewed. I ordered the Matrimonio which is the steak/chicken combo. It was perfectly prepared. The chimichurri sauce is delicious, too. I thought the empanadas and side dishes were just OK but the steak made up for the mediocre potato/yuca/plantain combo. Wine by the glass was decent-so was the price. My friend and I dined on a Sunday night which was comfortable and not too loud. Service was attentive but not exaggerated. Our waiter was busy since he was the only one covering the room. But he managed to take good care of us. The atmosphere was warm. Color palette was authentic and so was the music. The Best Bite? It was my friends birthdays last night so they made a reservation for eight and asked for a specific table. When we arrived the host stated we weren't able to get the table we requested although it was confirmed that we could get that table earlier in the day. She claimed we were called and a bigger party wanted that table so they had priority, literally, she said that. Also on the caller ID no missed calls, hm? We were seated fairly quickly so no complaints there. Once seated no one came to our table for 15 minutes! Once we ordered drinks we thought all would be well but no, another 15 minute wait. Once we finally ordered food the wait was reasonable, about 20-25 minutes but some people ordered appetizers as meals and they received their "meals" last once the appetizers made their way and everyone had their main entrees. I thought that was strange especially since they were just empanadas. They took 45-50 minutes to come out? The food was alright. A lot of people rave about the food but go to a little place on Addison & Pulaski and you can get better good quality for a 1/3 of the price plus better service. It's called Braja Rosa. Once we asked them to split the bill 3 on one and 5 on another, this is when the annoyance turned into my decision to never return. It took them 45 minutes to put the correct meals on the bills because they added so many extra empanadas, drinks, and meals on our bills after we changed them 4 times to come to the correct amount. The table next to us had the same problem and just walked out because they couldn't get the bill right. It was so dis functional and crazy! In the end we were so ready to go and we're getting up to leave with our coats on when they came with a live band singing happy birthday to the girls. I know good Colombian food and this place does not represent that. This place is a bad representation of what Colombian food should be. Food is overpriced and nasty. My husband ordered the bandeja paisa with medium steak and received it well done and very tough. I ordered the matrimonio with medium well steak and it was medium. The plantain and yuca all tasted bland and reheated. I should have listened to the other reviews before spending so much for crappy food. Grilled chicken is dry and bland, steaks are tough enough to be sponsored by Nike to be used as soles for a pair of new Air Jordans. The seasoning consisted of spreading raw garlic on everything. The side vegetables that were served were pretty much what was left over from yesterday's service. When I simply asked for something else cause the food was truly not edible, I received attitude. I went here last Friday with a friend for the first time, and it was excellent! He had suggested it and I was nervous to try out a new place (as I always am) but I was not disappointed! I ordered the carne Asada, medium. It was absolutely mouth watering! My friend had ordered flan at the end of the meal as well and I'm not partial to flan, but I tried it and it was also delicious! The whole mean was very well worth the price. We got a table quickly as well. We decided to try their Portage Park location for lunch instead of dinner. Huge disappointment. In fact, we really regretted going to this location (read on fellow Yelpers). We walked in and the restaurant only had one other customer sitting at a table by the front window (a family of four). She tossed the menus at the table without asking us if we wanted anything to drink and disappeared for at least 10-minutes. We looked at the menu briefly. We didn't see any "lunch specials" listed on their menu. Upon her return we asked if they had any lunch specials. She looked at us like we were aliens (as if we had insulted her for asking the question), and she answered us with a sour attitude saying, "No. We don't have lunch specials today." Oh, snap (moving my head side to side)!!! We thought who the heck wants to pay dinner prices for lunch? We thought "how strange" but stayed. However, then she walked away (without asking if we were ready to order after we perused the menu for 10-minutes). WTF! She disappeared again for at least 10-more minutes. My husband and I got up and walked out of the restaurant. We have been to their Lincoln Ave location many times over the years. Whenever my husband is craving a good, tender and flavorful steak, and we don't want to drop the big $$$ at Ruth Chris Steak House and/or Gene & Georgetti's, this is the place where we end up going. Our experience at their Lincoln Ave location has always been fantastic. The food portions are always incredibly filling. Their steaks are super flavorful and tender. Also, their Lincoln Ave location has fantastic customer service and awesome servers who take pride in what they do.The entire time that we were at their Portage Park location our Server never asked us "would you like anything to drink" or "are you ready to order?" Maybe she was having a crappy day. Maybe she hated her job and didn't care. Maybe she had a stick up her ass, I don't know what her problem was on July 19. BUT, you know what, that's okay because we plan to never return to their Portage Park location. Oh yeah, don't forget to remove that stick, sweetheart. This was a huge disappointment. We ended up going to "La Parrilla" instead. We got fantastic service at La Parrilla (which was lacking here). The food at La Parrilla is worthy of 4-stars. Thank God it wasn't very far from this restaurant, because we were super hungry. Customer service, at this location, deserves a zero. Never again!!! Next time, we will drive out of our way to go to their Lincoln Ave location for lunch or stop in again at La Parrilla. Their Portage Park location sucks and was a HUGE, huge, huge let down! After reading several other Yelp reviews it seems that they are consistent in one area. What is that you wonder? Customer service is consistently awful. However, I am not surprised, because we experienced it ourselves. If you read all of my other reviews on Yelp you will notice that I rarely give a 1-star review. My husband and I have never walked out of a restaurant. This was our first time walking out of a joint. It was also our last time at this place. Period. Las Tablas is on my dining mileage program so I always want to eat here. The first time I went I had an average experience. The food is adequate nothing special, similar to any tex-mex kinda establishment. There was nothing that made the Columbian steaks stand out to me. The food was served in a hot fajita style plate with grilled vegetables and accoutrement. What makes me downgrade this place is the service. Non-existent. The first time I came here service was slow but at least they knew they had customers. The second time I came here, Suzy and I were given water and basically ignored for about 20 mins. We were also the only other party in the place other than one family. We actually walked out. In my entire life I have walked out of less than a handful of places and this is one of them. The other thing i noticed was this place is always empty. I have driven by and it is empty and the two times I have gone in, it has been empty. Really does not speak to the quality of the joint. There are plenty of other places that do what Las Tablas does, except much better. Check it out if you want to bank some dining miles on your cc or have time to kill. We ordered Picada Mar y Tierra. This combination of the most popular Colombian food. loads of meat; pork, chicken, ribs, skirt steak and we added the seafood combination. This included calamari and baby octopus. We could've done without the upgrade that included the seafood. The beef, pork and chicken are plenty. The ribs were the best! The sauces they put on the table are filled with flavor and accompanied any dish. The margaritas were good however the mango Mojito was too much like a smoothie. Exceptional! Went here on a Tuesday around 7pm. It was VERY slow; there were three tables (including ours). The food was very good. We tried the combo platter for two. It was enough for lunch the next day. This place WAS BYOB but it isn't anymore. The waiter, accomodating as can be, let us bring in a bottle and didn't even charge corkage; I'm sure that is not their policy. There is nothing to regret about this restaurant. I highly recommend the churrasco ( not sure if that's the right spelling), but it is awesome. I love the plantains, mmm... mmm... mmm... It's a fun atmosphere, and their drinks are pretty good. They have a lunch special that is cheap for the amount of food one gets. Hola! I went to the Las Tablas on Irving Park Rd with a group of 6 people on a Wednesday night. There were about 5 tables filled on one side, and we got the other side where it was just us. Don't get me wrong...I love that it was not incredibly loud and busy since we were there for a business meeting/outing. Our wonderful waiter Julian (also wonderful looking) was extrememly attentive and got our entire order right. He did not miss a step. I'm always amazed by this because I have been disappointed so many times at other establishments. I started out with a Mojito which was refreshing after a long day's work. Then I moved on to the sangria which was a delight in itself. Let's move on to the grub... I ordered the combination Emprana steak and shrimp which was better than the last few times I've been here. Flavorful, tender, and just overall good food. We've also ordered side of rice with fried egg on top and chicharonnes. We ALL enjoyed our meals and I devoured my left overs the next day. We we looking for something new to us on the Northwest side and gave Las Tablas a shot. We made reservations for 6:30 on a Friday night, and the place was half-empty. Within the next half hour, it was completely full with families, large groups and couples. We ordered the empanadas and the Avocado salad for starters. The empanadas were small, but tasty. The salad was delicious with lots of avocado, corn cut from the cob, lettuce, bacon and a light lime vinaigrette. We also ordered a pitcher of red sangria. For the main, we ordered the skirt steak and octopus. There was enough steak to feed my entire family - and it was tender and done to perfection. The octopus was well cooked and tender. Service was attentive but not rushed. We could have sat at the table all night without being told to leave. At 7:30, the band started to play. I anticipated traditional Mexican music, but was delightfully surprised when they did an entire set of Latin Jazz. They start with jazz and segue into salsa and dance music later in the evening. I spoke with the band leader who said they usually play there on Saturday nights, but also play around the city. A fantastic evening and wonderful experience.
