Simply put, Morgasm*. Strolling in here with a date to celebrate her birthday, we were promptly seated inside rather than the patio. We were given time to decide what we want and were given vast amounts of water and sauce. I ordered the house special- 16 oz of fantastic meat served on a hot dish over a wooden board with juko (a root), potato and plantains. She had the same, just 12oz. Now, I am not a big sangria person, actually much of anything involving liquor and sweetness is typically fruit syrup and Zyweic, but here, here, the sangria pitcher is fucking delicious. It really didn't hit me until I stood up, but it was quite potent and all shades of delicious. Now, I wouldn't be a repeat customer since it is mighty pricey. But for a special occasion, this is stop number one. *Meat Orgasm, More Orgasm, Magnificent Orgasm; take your pick. read more

So I was really in the mood to try some good latin food and based on the reviews thought I'd give Las Tablas a try. Here's what I found: The Starter - The empanadas were greasy, deep fried and filled with mostly rice and potatoes. pretty bland. These guys really need to try an Argentinian empanada. Main Course - Decided to go with the smaller version of the house special which is listed as the Churrascito (sorry about the spelling). This was a decent sized steak with Yuca, potatoes, and a fried plantain. The steak was pretty faty, but the plantain was great; it provided a sweet contrast to the otherwise flavorless dish. Dessert - My friends got the coconut flan which was good, but a little too sweet. I got the caramel with blackberries. The blackberry sauce was extremely sour and the caramel wasn't all too great either. Overall, the only saving grace for this place is the live band. read more

The appetizer we had was great (2 pieces of something for 2.50$, not empanadas :) The Strawberry Mojito was delicious, service good, food great (ordered the combo for 40$ for 2, took leftovers home). The BIG bonus was live music, made the restaurant feel very authentic! No problems with using our Groupon! Would absolutely be back. :) read more

Friday night 9pm, hungry for steak. Place was rockin! live entertainment. World Cup everywhere, Columbia is very excited to be in the cup! Colombian beer cocktail is amazing you must try it. Grilled Seafood appetizer is grilled and seasoned perfectly. Steak and Chicken Combo with Potato, Fried Yuca and Plantain all done and seasoned perfectly. I love this place. We started with empanadas and they came with a small salad with the tastiest garlic vinaigrette! Then I ordered a carne asada steak, but the waiter , Mauricio , convinced me to have the Entrana instead. I'm so glad he did- it was so delicious and served very hot, temperature-wise, like Ruth Chris. This place reminds me a lot of Tango Sur before they went white. They have amazing lunch specials and have good space for a party. Que saboroso!! read more

We ordered: Drink - A bottle of mMalbec - delish / alcohol was reasonably priced Appetizers - Empenada Sampler - they were rubbery and over cooked - Chicken Rellano Arepa - best (non chocolo) arepa I've ever had and my friend agreed, very fresh to order, savory, and moist - Grilled Octopus - it was the baby verison of octopus, beyond rubbery and no flavor besides the grill taste read more

One word: Chimichurri!!! (and yeah, three exclamation points were necessary). When I used to live in Logan Square, I would go here quite often. I have not been back in the neighborhood for a while, but the food was quite tasty when I used to go. The lunch special was a great deal - homemade soup, chimichurri steak, rice, salad, fried plantains and yucca for under $20 (I think it was $15, but prices could have changed in the last 5-6 years). The only reason I would give it 4 and not 5 stars was the service - slow and inattentive. Otherwise, great place to go check out if you like South American style steakhouses. Another thing to note is that on the weekends, there is sometimes live music, which may be a good or bad thing depending on your tastes and the type of evening you desire. I usually like a quieter atmosphere when I am dining and it gets quite loud because the restaurant is not that big. P.S. The owner looks like Carlos Santana - how can you beat that? read more

We visited mid week for an early dinner. The place was pretty empty so we were seated immediately. Since it was 5 of us and we had never dined here before, we wanted to be able to try a bunch of different things. We went with the Picada Mar y Tierra (basically a platter of grilled steak, chicken, pork, chorizo, shrimp, octopus and calamari, with sweet plantain, green plantain and yucca). The Ensalada de Aguacate--avocado, corn, bacon, cilantro over romaine lettuce with a citrus vinaigrette. And the Empanada plate--2 of each, beef, chicken and cheese. Our server said we'd definitely have enough for 5 (considering one was a child) and he was right. Everything was very good--very flavorful and grilled perfectly. My favorite being the grilled octopus and shrimp and steak. There seemed to be a lot more chicken than anything else though. The salad was delicious--super fresh ingredients and a nice side to all the meat. The empanadas were good--I only tried the chicken, but I really liked the crispy dough. There were 2 different sauces on the table, one I assumed was chimichurri. It was ok--a bit bland though, nothing better than what I can make at home. Drinks were good--there's a nice menu of cocktails and wines. The coffee was also delicious as we were hoping for a Colombian restaurant. Service was friendly and helpful. The restaurant was tidy--and I loved the heavy wood chairs. Worth return visits. read more

I havent been here in years and this place is just as amazing as I remember! This time I went for the Bandeja Paisa- char-broiled, colombian-style cut rib-eye steak served with fried pork belly, rice, beans, fried egg, sweet plantain and avocado! Damn it was good. & the portions were so large that two can share. If you just want meat on your plate go for the Matrimonio it's also one of my favorites. read more

Let me just preface this by saying we had a great meal, this is more an FYI: ** We arrived at the restaurant around 7PM on a Saturday night with 4 people. We didn't have a reservation and were told that tables were reserved after 8:30 and that our table might be needed if we weren't done by that time. Make reservations if you intend to go later than 7ish on Friday or Saturday!** Now on to the food! We started out with several orders of Empanadas which were amazing, great start to what we hoped would be a good meal. Tasty alone but with the chimichurri that came with them-YUM! When it came to entrees all 4 of us wanted the signature steak... All I can say is WOW. It was fantastic, properly cooked and sizzling on the tablas (wooden plank) holding a metal dish with our amazing steak. We ended the evening with the flan. Now I normally am not a fan of flans texture but this flan was so soft and buttery it was a pleasant surprise, not the normal jello/custard consistency I've had many times elsewhere. I only gave it four stars due to the initial impression the host gave us when we walked in which wasn't very inviting. It was more like, "Why should we give YOU a table". This was not indicative of the service as a whole, our server was very kind, attentive and knowledgeable Price wasn't horrible: 4 great steaks, apps and several drinks per person for about $160.00. read more

This is a great date place and Marcia and I had a good time here. The steaks are very well seasoned and the Colombian sides are excellent like the yuca. I enjoyed the carne asada and empanadas very much and would recommend them to try.. there was also a treat of live music when we arrived that Friday so it made the experience that much better. read more

NOT AUTHENTIC COLOMBIAN FOOD! Last time I ate here was a few years ago and i decided to come in today. My husband ordered the sancocho it was good. I ordered my favorite plate , the bandeja paisa and I am so disappointed!! It did not look or taste like what I've had from there before. The food had no flavor, the arepa is made of flour instead of cornmeal...no where in Colombia they make it this way. The beans were the worst. They tasted like they were served straight out of a can and warmed in the microwave not freshly made at all. The service was bad and drinks are horrible. They either got new cooks, new management or just don't care. And they have the nerve to charge so much for mediocre food. Not coming back here again. I've never had Colombian food but have always wanted to try it. A group of friends and I dined here last night; one had been here before and suggested it. For a Friday night, the restaurant was pretty quiet and there was no live music at 8 pm as advertised. No reservations needed! The sangria is good and strong but too pricey for one glass. I ordered the Matrimonio which is a skirt steak and chicken on a hot plate with sides of yucca, plantain, and potato. I thought everything was just ok; I enjoyed the company more than anything. The chicken was very tender and maybe I eat too slow but my yucca was cold and dry. The leftover steak was better cold when I ate it this afternoon than it was last night because it was less chewy. They give you this sauce with cilantro and a bunch of green herbs, I don't know what it is, but spicy one is pretty good. We also ordered empanadas as an appetizer and I only tried the chicken but that was delicious! Very friendly and down to earth server who even joked around with us. read more

I ate here with six friends for the first time last Saturday night and the experience was very positive. The food was great. The emphasis here is on MEAT, although they also have a good selection of seafood and chicken on the menu too. Most of us had the house specialty, skirt steaks. As you may know, skirt steak can be a little less than melt-in-your-mouth tender. We had no complaints. They were reasonably tender and cooked the way we specified. Sides of potatoes and plantain were great too. For me, though, the real star of the evening was the house special soup. I forget the name, but it is on the menu everyday. A combination of potatoes and shredded chicken, it is wonderful. Don't eat there without ordering it. It is available, I think, in either entree or side dish portion. It's terrific. Service was OK. Not great, as we sometimes had to wait quite a while between visits by our waiter, but overall we had no complaints. There was live music while we were there and it was fun to watch some little kids having a ball dancing. Parking is on the street and is free and I would suspect would be pretty easy on this section of Irving Park. read more

I used to come in the past and ordered the Picada Colombiana. Yesterday I came for the first time after years and ordered the Picada Colombiana once again. I was very disappointed. I had the pollo relleno and empanadas for an appetizer. Empanadas were the BEST I have had. I would b satisfied with an order of these for my dinner, but my dinner was amazing also. Been here a few times. The food is absolutely delicious. The negatives about this place would be the staff, they tend to not be too attentive. I've always had a good meal here and the mojitos are AMAZING. Also, I just recently found out they have lunch specials where you get a ton of food for around $8. Definitely try it out for lunch and if you like it, come back for dinner when they have live music. read more

I love this place. They have a really nice menu with different types of dishes. I love getting their caraminolas for the appetizer and the entrana for the main course. I was very disappointed with my experience here. Previously I had gone to Las Tablas in Lakeview and had great food and so I wanted to support the restaurant during the pandemic. Since I had moved, I opted for the Portage Park location and ordered take out. I received the confirmation and we headed over to pick it up at the time the confirmation noted it would be ready. I went inside and told the host I was here for a pickup and thus began a 45 minute ordeal of me being TOLD "it's almost ready", "they're packing it up" and the host avoiding me whenever possible only to find out after 45 minutes (I was extra patient because I'm sure they had less staff with the pandemic) I was finally told that they were OUT of one of the main entrees I had ordered. This means they hadn't even STARTED making my order...just lied to me for 45 minutes. I realize things happen and items run out, especially more so with supply issues during the pandemic, but just tell the truth right away! There's no need to make up lies for 45 minutes while people wait patiently for the food you've told them is being "packed up". They then offered to make something different...again showing that they hadn't even started cooking my order, but at that point I was famished and couldn't handle waiting another 30 minutes for the meal I had now ordered 1.5 hours ago! I told them to cancel the order and refund my card. If they had relayed this out of stock item when I first arrived (or placed the order), then I would have been willing to wait for the changed order. But when you feel the need to lie to a customer for 45 minutes while they are standing and waiting in your restaurant...that's a big problem. After I walked out, someone came out a side door and apologized for the situation. He took down my name, cell number and email address and stated he would have someone reach out to me on Monday. It's now been over a month and no one has made any attempt to contact me to resolve this horrible customer service. It's one thing to have a bad night and make mistakes (doesn't excuse the host who was repeatedly lying), but to have zero follow up and accountability is not acceptable. I'm sad that I'll miss their food, but I will not support establishments who are not accountable and allow employees to lie when there are so many good people at other restaurants that deserve the patronage. read more

This Columbian steakhouse is a hidden gem in the neighborhood. The food is delicious with a full menu to choose from. I had the combination plate with steak and calamari. The steak is their specialty and it can go head-to-head against any other steakhouse in Chicago. They have a bar to sit at too with plenty of drink specials to choose from. Save room for desserts because they are a huge portion. The ambiance is very welcoming, and the service is super nice and friendly. Highly recommend a visit. read more

After going to the wrong Las Tablas (in diversy), we drove here and were seated right away. The food is similar to the diversy location, but here they had a band playing in the restaurant. We were trying to talk to our friends but the music was so loud we could barely hear each other. Food is pretty filling and the empanadas and fried seafood (which they always recommend in both locations) were okay. I would liked it more if it was not so loud or if we could have danced with the music.. read more

First time having columbian foot and I was pleasantly surprised. The dining area is very large. We went for lunch and it was pretty empty. Our server was very helpful and attentive. I came in on a Monday recently for the first time. There were only 2 other tables when I went in. Ordered the empanada sampler to share. I wasn't too impressed with them. You got 2 of each; cheese, chicken and beef. It was tough for me to tell the difference except for the cheese. For my entrée, I ordered their Bandeja Paisa which comes with rib-eye steak served with fried pork belly, chorizo, rice, beans, fried egg, sweet plantain and avocado. I love a good steak and this one didn't disappoint. I always feel that a steak done right doesn't need any sauce. This one surely could be had without the two sauces they put on the table. The pork belly was good as was the chorizo. The sweet plantain was overdone; a little dried out and hard. The portion size for the money was great. You won't leave hungry. The food didn't take long to come out. The waiter stopped by the right amount of times so I wasn't looking around for him. These are things I look for service-wise. I've been to hundreds of restaurant and know how service should be. Given, this was a slow night, there shouldn't have been any excuses. Not sure how they hold up on a Friday or Saturday night. I would recommend this location and I would try them again, although I'm not dying to go back just yet. I just wasn't wowed. read more

I ventured into this place since I was craving some Latin food. Since it was around the area from my place and I was also on the way from blockbuster to drop off some movies, I found Las Tablas. Very loud place. But I didn't come here for the ambiance.. I was here for the food. I was starving... My insides were eating itself out. I ordered the empenadas as an appetizer. Wow. MMMMMMM.. maybe it was the hunger that took over, but the ground beef was busting with spices and flavor. The next was the main entree... the steak. The portions are HUGE. I only finished about half of it, but just as the empenadas, filled with alot of seasoning and the steak was just done impressively. What I really suggest at this place is to order the sangrias. The sangrias are more citris than anything. It tastes sweet and flavorful. It really offsetted the spices and seasoning for the food. not that it was too spicy or too seasoned, but it complimented it just right. Reason I gave it 3, was the service was a bit slow. I had to always get the servers attention. Overall though, I would definitely come back. read more

I couldn't give it 3 stars since the food is so fantastic. But, I'm deterred by the service and will likely go to La Parilla instead. Colombian food is Colombian food, kind of hard to mess up. It's going to be delicious regardless. I think the thing that separates the men from the boys is SERVICE. Las Tablas has an outdoor area so that makes it more attractive than La Parilla, but really that's about the only thing. I had the Bandeja Paisa, food was delicious. I also had the empanadas of course and as usual, amazing. I tried a Jugo de Mora (Blackberry Juice) and I had them add a shot of Rum in it. Wow, amazing... read more

They were showing Casablanca for free at the Portage Theater, so my plan was to catch the movie with my wife and then get something to eat before a night of Monster Trucks (my middle name isn't Romance for nothing). When we got to Las Tablas, we got good seats by the window and took our orders - I got the chicken and she got the skirt steak and shrimp combo. Dude. The food was delicious. Everything was grilled to perfection. The meat was perfectly marinated and the plantains, potato and all the sides were great additions. It gave me a full-term food baby all the way to Monster Trucks, and provided the energy to yell and cheer for Monster Mutt along with some of the most unsavory and unclean people I've ever been in close contact with. read more
