Small Place Big on Flavor This place serves Peruvian & Latin American fare. I ordered the lomo saltado and Tamale. The tamale was very flavorful with chicken and veggies in side wrapped in a leaf. The Lomo saltado dish was recommended by a friend of mine which prompted me to try it. Lomo saltado is a popular, traditional Peruvian dish, a stir fry that typically combines marinated strips of sirloin, or other beef steak, with onions, tomatoes, and other ingredients, served with fried potato slices and rice. As far as I know this is the only Peruvian restaurant in NOLA. Very little English is spoken here but they do have a picture menu for those not well versed in Spanish. They don't have iced tea and I attempted to order a Topo Chico mineral water but instead I received a plastic bottled water so I assumed they didn't have it until I saw it in their case. The food is pretty good and there are some things that are a bit different than anything I've had before so this is certainly an interesting spot to check out for a little something different. They do some nice things with potatoes here. If you can find a friend that speaks Spanish you will probably have a better experience here. They do take credit cards here. read more

Authentic Latin American cuisine.!! Very tasteful and affordable. The place is small hole in the wall type place. The service is typical for places like this. Not fast but efficient. I swear Kenner is becoming a mecca for little joints like this! I believe the food is Peruvian (I read that somewhere) but I say its just plain tasty and really well priced. The menu is in spanish (no lie) so you might need some help ordering but its fairly easy to interpret. Expect staples like arroz con pollo, tacos, etc read more

I don't know why reviews for Las Carnitas isn't a 4+ stars. I moved here in August and have been going back every 1-2 times a month! THE FOOD IS SO FLAVORFUL AND DELICIOUS. Up until last week, I always got the Bistec Encebollado. The potatoes are my favorite part of the meal. I SWEAR, WHAT'S THE SECRET TO COOKING THEM? Actually, what's the secret to the whole meal? It's just so darn delicious. Makes my mouth water thinking about it. The only reason why I didn't order that plate again was because I decided it was time to be daring and try something new and I wasn't disappointed either! My friend always gets the Lomo Saltado, she won't budge. I'm actually going to Peru in 2 months, so I'm excited to see if it's truly authentic! read more

Place super slow. For a beef stew soup took more than an hour to bring out. The tacos which is a simple meal took 1:30 hour to bring out. Cooks are def super slow! From personal experience I know tacos and the soup should be out quicker than that, since the soup is already made from a previous day. The food is good though the only good thing about the place. They really need to work on servers and cooks to serve quicker. read more

I come here as soon as I get to New Orleans if they are open. They are closed Saturdays, but I recommend this restaurant to anyone. They have really good and fresh food and it is very inexpensive. If you like Baleadas and plantains this place serves the best in town. If you like to watch TV as you eat they have that too. I have been to a lot of restaurants in town and this is the best for the food, prices, and service as well. My boyfriend is from Honduras and he agrees. The only problem is it has limited space so come early or get take-out. I heard they may expand soon. read more

As a peruvian I was excited to go to this restaurant after I found it on this website and read good reviews about it. I called beforehand to make sure they cook Peruvian food because it's not usual to find a restaurant like this in Louisiana but they assured me they had everything, including Tacu Tacu, which was our main reason to go there. Upon arrival, we were surprised that the restaurant is a little place where nobody spoke English. My husband, who is originally from Louisiana and knows about peruvian food because of me, couldn't understand a word on the menu because there was no translation like most hispanic restaurants do. Also, the menu was limited and they didn't have Tacu Tacu and refused to make it till we insisted and explained to them about our phone call and accepted to cook it. Now we know that we should've left because the so called Tacu Tacu wasn't the real one. They only mixed beans with white rice but didn't mash the beans and mix it with the rice and fried it, like it's supposed to be. They even charged us around $12 for that, which is more than their most expensive plate that was around $9. Also, my mom ordered Aji de Gallina, and it had white cheese, which any peruvian person knows it's not cooked like that. It tasted very cheese, which is not an ingredient for Aji de Gallina. The meat seamed to be bad because it had a whitish color, even though it was a steak and, in my case, it had soy sauce because I ordered Tallarin Saltado but still bad meat and taste.
