I was very excited to get Brasas Peru because one of my coworkers has raved so much about it. The restaurant itself is kind of hidden, so I was surprised with how much parking there was near it. When you walk inside it's very welcoming. And how can an alpaca in a hat not make you smile? There is something on the menu for everyone, so if you have a "country palate" as my family calls it, you can still find something for you. Our appetizer came out with our meal, but the food was all amazing. I personally recommend getting the Salchipapa for the table to much on whole reviewing the menu because you can't go wrong with hot dogs and fries. The Honduran tacos were more like taquitos than tacos. They were delicious. My daughter didn't leave any of the carne asada and talks about going back to get it again. Everything we saw being brought to other tables looked good, so maybe next time I'll just point to something on the menu and see what I end up with. read more

When my friend said she found a great spot for Peruvian food in Baton Rouge I was a little skeptical but Brasas totally delivered! We came by on a weekday evening for dinner and it was pretty empty. Service was a little slow but the food was solid. I got the macchi picchu old fashioned and the lomo saltado. The old fashioned was good and had nice spiced flavor to it which I enjoyed and felt very festive. The lomo saltado was well seasoned and the fries were nice and crispy. I think I actually cleaned my plate. The decor in here is super cute too! Went looking for a quiet spot to eat on a Saturday night, and stumbled upon this hidden gem. The vibe I got when we first walked in was that this place is very laid back and casual. We started off with 6 wings-- 3 buffalo and 3 garlic parm. The flavor was SO good and they were cooked to perfection. I did notice the menu said they were served with carrots and celery and we didn't get any carrots on our plate, but that's ok. We also ordered the pasta and steak and the flavors were AMAZING. I've never had better steak & pasta in my life. For dessert, we tried the sweet potato donuts and really liked them as well. I will say, the food alone gets 5 stars, but the service was a little *too* laid back for my liking (veryyyy slow). So if you aren't in a rush and want a great meal, I'd highly suggest checking out this spot. read more

Baton Rouge is fortunate to have a wealth of ethnic food choices. However, Brasas Peru is our only Peruvian restaurant as of now. It's located in a nice space just off Perkin's Road in the historic location of Calendar's. There's plenty of off street parking in this commercial development, and then one can stroll to the restaurant. Once one enters, the nice staff will seat you and offer you a menu. This is pretty self-explanatory, but they will be glad to give you assistance and suggestions if you want. I think that most people here in South Louisiana will find something to like here. There's a variety of spiced meats cooked in sauces and served with rice! This is something we should all be able to relate with. The roasted chicken is also excellent, if a little less adventurous. In the different department, they have yucca, bean, and plantain sides which are reminiscent of Caribbean fare. There's interesting appetizers as well, like a meat stuffed mashed potato dumpling! I like to try new and different dishes, so I'll be continuing to explore their menu in future visits! read more

The food was excellent, highly recommend the Lomo Saltado with steak and roasted chicken. Given it was our first time here all the dishes may be amazing but all three of us recommend what we ordered. The fried yucca was excellent as well. They gave us four sauces to share, and each of us had a favorite. Brandon was our server and his service was perfect, no complaints and timely but not invasive. Thank you Brandon! Lastly, we loved the ambiance of the place. Outside there was plenty of parking and you enter off of a wide shaded deck/patio. We were promptly greeted and seated. The food is delightfully delicious . It's so good to have the ethnic food diversity in the Baton Rouge community. I really enjoyed the array of seafood ceviche dishes. Light and crispy fried fish and shrimp. They make a rice dish that is to die for. Sorry I didn't add specific names of dishes to try. I usually go "eenie -meenie-minie-mo" to make myself try something new and different every time I go. I'm always pleasantly surprised with the choice. Service is a little slow right now. Unique is the first word that comes to mind here. I've never tried Peruvian cuisine before so I was excited to explore something new. The service was great--I cannot complain about anything there. The restaurant was well-appointed and comfortable. Everyone at our table seemed to enjoy the food. I wanted to try the empanada as I have seen rave reviews on social media. I thought it was very tasty--appreciate the sweet and savory notes and the crust was perfect. Only thing a little disappointing is that some raves about great sauces but we didn't get anything. Perhaps we didn't order the right thing or order correctly. Two of us at the table got the Lomo A La Pobre. It was so different than anything I have in terms of what was on the plate. I loved the sweetness of the plantains in the salty sauce that circled the plate from the chicken and vegetables. It was more or less a stir fry with some homemade French fries, really good white rice, plantains and two fried eggs. My table mate got steak and I got chicken. Someone else at the table go the seafood cebiche. I loved the vibrant colors although I'm not a fan of raw meat/seafood. Someone else got the Arroz Chaufa. It was a massive serving. I got a little taste and really appreciated the notes of sweetness in the dish (perhaps cinnamon?). Finally, the picarones were recommended for dessert. This was truly interesting. I found the dough to be a tad undercooked and doughy in some places, but the flavors were good, particularly of sweet potato and molasses. A great addition to Baton Rouge! The staff is friendly and the restaurant atmosphere is casual and modern, and the decor is colorful and bright. Loved the food. My favorite was a cold appetizer, causa rellena, a "layered tower of pureed potatoes, chicken salad and avocado served on a plate drizzled with three different sauces: one made with black olives, one with aji chilis and the other, rocoto chilis." Had a fantastic first trip here! Really cute restaurant inside, adorable decor. Service was a bit slow and I think our waitress was new and her English wasn't great because she didn't know what a few things on the menu were or perhaps didn't understand our questions. Either way she was very nice. The food was delish! The steak on both dishes was super tender and flavorful. The ceviche was decent. Not the best I've had. Definitely plan to come back and try more things. The drink menu was extensive and my friends had two delicious drinks! Service and wait for food took a bit longer than it should've and they forgot one of our dishes but we had plenty of food so we just cancelled it. We shared a beef empanada and Lomo Saltada. The beef empanada had very little of anything in it, (we counted one raisin) and was doughy and bland. The food here is lovely- really great and authentic Peruvian ceviche. My friend and I did not particularly find the charcoal chicken to be anything remarkable so we wouldn't get that again but the unidentified sauces were nice to have alongside it. However, we enjoyed our sides of yuca fries and the plantains. The seafood ceviche was bright and acidic with such wonderful textures- the only inconvenience was the tails kept on the shrimp. The pasta was so rich and yummy with really nicely cooked steak. That entree was a surprise winner for us both. I enjoyed my refreshing chilcano and the pisco sour was satisfactory. I've been wanting to try Brasas Peru after seeing all the raving reviews from local foodies. My husband and I made reservations with some friends on a Friday at 6pm. The atmosphere was casual, and wasn't too busy for it being a Friday evening. The first thing we ordered was the Causa Rellena. It was a cold appetizer that tasted like a combo of chicken, potato, & egg salads blended with olives. The presentation of the dish was beautiful, but it was supposed to have avocado & they were out. If I would have known that before I ordered, I wouldn't have gotten it. As far as the entrees, everyone enjoyed theirs, and when it came to the deserts, the 5 leches was my favorite. The donuts to me were just "meh". They had a great texture, but a bitter taste in my opinion. I wish they would have been a little sweeter. Overall, we enjoyed our experience! I dragged myself out to dinner and boy am I glad I did. Brass's has by far the best beef empanada I've ever tasted. It's hot, fresh, and melts in your mouth. Yes there is powdered sugar on it, BUT IT WORKS! I also got the Causa Rellena which is a cold potato and chicken dish. Delicious! The flavors work so well together and will fill you up. That didn't stop me from getting one of their stir fry dishes which was flavorful and large. While tasty, the plantains were the real stars. It's a bit pricey but you really do get your moneys worth. Driving home, I saw a wondrous and amazing sight as the voices of angels sang...well actually it was just a sign advertising all day happy hour but still! Service by the host was amazing, the waitress maybe had less energy but no big complaints. Now let's turn to the business of taste buds. The beef empanada was crisp and full of delicious stuffing. The chicken maaaaaan the chicken would have earned this restaurant 4.5 stars by itself even if the restaurant was run by Oscar the Grouch in his trash can! The roasted chicken was succulent and full of flavor and the ají sauces were simply delicious. Make sure to ask for spicier if you need to like any good ethnic restaurant they have that secret sauce in their secret sauce they can give in addition to the included ones. The ceviche was delicious and the fish was cobia...so good quality and very buttery. I was at first suspicious of the corn nuts and yams as sometimes they could be used to reduce the amount of fish but the portions were good and the sides were delicious, giving complimentary flavors and crunchy textures to the fish so I can't be mad at all. The alcoholic drinks are a must try...the passion fruit (maracuya) pisco sour was one of the top drinks I've tried in BTR...unfortunately on the nonalcoholic side the chicha morada seemed bottled and a little less flavorful than others I've tried.
