Holy international food, OMFG! Can we say hidden gem? Pay no attention to the names on the menu, just point to something and order it!!! This place deserves SO much more business. We were here from 6:30-9 and counted 4 tables apart from ours. #peru #peruvianfood #eatlocal #foodie #ETB

Baton Rouge is fortunate to have a wealth of ethnic food choices. However, Brasas Peru is our only Peruvian restaurant as of now. It's located in a nice space just off Perkin's Road in the historic location of Calendar's. There's plenty of off street parking in this commercial development, and then one can stroll to the restaurant. Once one enters, the nice staff will seat you and offer you a menu. This is pretty self-explanatory, but they will be glad to give you assistance and suggestions if you want. I think that most people here in South Louisiana will find something to like here. There's a variety of spiced meats cooked in sauces and served with rice! This is something we should all be able to relate with. The roasted chicken is also excellent, if a little less adventurous. In the different department, they have yucca, bean, and plantain sides which are reminiscent of Caribbean fare. There's interesting appetizers as well, like a meat stuffed mashed potato dumpling! I like to try new and different dishes, so I'll be continuing to explore their menu in future visits!

The food was excellent, highly recommend the Lomo Saltado with steak and roasted chicken. Given it was our first time here all the dishes may be amazing but all three of us recommend what we ordered. The fried yucca was excellent as well. They gave us four sauces to share, and each of us had a favorite. Brandon was our server and his service was perfect, no complaints and timely but not invasive. Thank you Brandon! Lastly, we loved the ambiance of the place. Outside there was plenty of parking and you enter off of a wide shaded deck/patio. We were promptly greeted and seated. The chairs, booths, tables and bar stools are obviously chosen with care. The dishes and food presentation was great too. We'll be back!

Absolutely love this place! The cocktails are good. The food is just bursting with flavor! I especially loves the half chicken combo and then we get the steak fried rice and split amongst two of us. It's not a bad bargain! Service was great and who doesn't love a Peruvian restaurant with their own alpaca mascot!

Unique is the first word that comes to mind here. I've never tried Peruvian cuisine before so I was excited to explore something new. The service was great--I cannot complain about anything there. The restaurant was well-appointed and comfortable. Everyone at our table seemed to enjoy the food. I wanted to try the empanada as I have seen rave reviews on social media. I thought it was very tasty--appreciate the sweet and savory notes and the crust was perfect. Only thing a little disappointing is that some raves about great sauces but we didn't get anything. Perhaps we didn't order the right thing or order correctly. Two of us at the table got the Lomo A La Pobre. It was so different than anything I have in terms of what was on the plate. I loved the sweetness of the plantains in the salty sauce that circled the plate from the chicken and vegetables. It was more or less a stir fry with some homemade French fries, really good white rice, plantains and two fried eggs. My table mate got steak and I got chicken. Someone else at the table go the seafood cebiche. I loved the vibrant colors although I'm not a fan of raw meat/seafood. Someone else got the Arroz Chaufa. It was a massive serving. I got a little taste and really appreciated the notes of sweetness in the dish (perhaps cinnamon?). Finally, the picarones were recommended for dessert. This was truly interesting. I found the dough to be a tad undercooked and doughy in some places, but the flavors were good, particularly of sweet potato and molasses. To wrap things up, I would definitely go back and want to try some of the potato appetizers and the charcoal chicken. I hope this business does well!

Order takeout. Arrived 20 mins later and my food was ready. I love yucca fries, chicken was well-seasoned, and no complaints from me. I'll be back.

Brasas Peru 7520 Perkins Rd, Baton Rouge, LA 70808 If you want to dive into some Peruvian food, then this is your calling! What is Peruvian food, you ask? To me, the flavor profile is a mixture of Spanish, Chinese, European, Indian and Japanese. If this food post catches your, then come here now! 1. Papa Rellena Peruvian style fried ball of creamy seasoned mashed potatoes that have been stuffed with ground beef, raisins, boiled egg, and onions. 2. Beef Empanada Homemade baked flour pastry with a sweet and salty balance, stuffed with ground beef, raisins, boiled eggs, onions, and Peruvian red peppers. 3. Pasta a la Huancaina Thin spaghetti bathed in our traditional peruvian yellow chilli pepper sauce. Topped with queso fresco, and tender marinated sirlion strips. 4. Lomo Saltado Juicy and tender filet mignon pieces, sutééd with red onions, tomatoes, and cilantro. Served with white rice and homemade fries. 5. Half Chicken Our dilicious half chicken with Yuca Frita & Arroz Chaufa. #Tonylameats #batonrougela #brasasperu #Peruvianfood

A great addition to Baton Rouge! The staff is friendly and the restaurant atmosphere is casual and modern, and the decor is colorful and bright. Loved the food. My favorite was a cold appetizer, causa rellena, a "layered tower of pureed potatoes, chicken salad and avocado served on a plate drizzled with three different sauces: one made with black olives, one with aji chilis and the other, rocoto chilis." (Had to look it up!) This is a great appetizer to beat the heat! The fried plantains were super delicious, crispy on the outside, and sweet and soft on the inside. Will be back for sure.

Lomo Saltado was flavorful and yum! For $36, it was pretty steep. Next time I'd try the green basil pasta dish that lots of people ordered. The "jumbo" Peruvian wings were delicious but nowhere near "jumbo." Maybe it's jumbo for a Peruvian chicken... but it ain't jumbo to American standards if you asked me. Comes with the green salsa verde sauce which is yummy! Friday evening had no wait, but you can make a reservation too. Parking: small parking lot in the back Service: friendly and fast... so fast that they took the check before we even left! It almost felt like she was rushing us out. Thought it was customary for them to take the signed check after customers leave.

We live a few blocks away from this location and walk over once or twice a month to pick up…read moreempanadas. We've generally loved the food and service, but I'm worried that something has changed as we've been disappointed the last two times. 10 days ago we went with company in town, and my niece and I each got the caprese empanadas. Everyone else's order was fine but my caprese had green olives in it, which is not ever an ingredient in caprese anything and isn't listed under caprese in the empanola menu either. My niece's didn't have the olives, so I chalked this up to a random mistake and let it go. I did drop a quick note to the company on their "contact us" button just as an fyi for quality control, just in case it was a more regular mistake they should address, but I also said it wasn't a big deal, I just wanted to make them aware. Tonight we ordered 8 empanadas but only had 6 in the box when we got home. My husband drove back over quickly as they were about to close. I texted him while he was there replacing the other two missing empanadas, to let him know there were green olives yet again in the two caprese empanadas. The staff were very friendly and helpful and assured him that green olives are not in their recipe and asked for pictures, which I sent. They replaced my two caprese with the only one they had left, and threw in the next closest thing, which was spinach and artichoke, though I don't love that one personally. Anyway, the replacement caprese also has green olives in it now too, so I'm going to go make myself something else for dinner and now don't feel like ordering my caprese favorites anymore from there, as this is apparently an ongoing and regular mistake. I'm really bummed about this as the workers are very friendly and we've had lots of great experiences with this place that's so convenient and easy for us to walk to also. We love supporting all the great neighborhood businesses around here, of which Empanola has been high on our list for quite a while. I hope they get this sorted out, and I hope that there's a way I can know when the issue is fixed as I've now paid for three (and got two more free, for a total of 5) empanadas that were not actual caprese and I didn't like. It's most disappointing to my tastebuds, but it's now a risk I don't want to keep taking with my money either, as I'm paying for this continued disappointment. My husband will still continue to order with the kids when I'm not home, but we won't order as a family anymore for a while. I can't wait til this is hopefully cleared up again though so we can go back to loving this place!
