I stopped by after seeing several TikTok videos raving about the sangria and margaritas. As someone who's a bit of a sangria and margarita enthusiast, I had to give it a try. The sangria was definitely the highlight. It was sweeter than I personally prefer, but it packed a punch! The cinnamon notes were exactly what caught my attention online, and they came through nicely without being overpowering. I could also taste the fresh fruit, which was a nice touch. If they toned down the sweetness just a bit, it would be close to perfect for my palate. One thing to note--it drinks stronger than it tastes, so don't underestimate a pitcher! I also tried the blueberry margarita. The fresh muddled blueberries were excellent, but I'm not a big fan of orange liqueur-based margaritas, so it just wasn't my style. I prefer a more classic margarita with fresh lime and agave or simple syrup. That said, it wasn't a bad margarita at all--just different than what I personally enjoy. I'm from Houston, where we're spoiled with incredible Mexican food and cocktails, so my standards are probably higher than most. Overall, I'd definitely come back for the sangria, and the service and atmosphere made for a great experience. If you enjoy sweeter cocktails with plenty of flavor, this place is worth checking out.

I absolutely love this spot. The Mechada arepa which consists of skirt steak, platano maduro and cheese is one of my favs. The corn is also so flavorful! It's a must try and you cannot forget your Mojito!!! Everytime I have been the service has always been great, the food is always so flavorful. If you're in the city or just visiting you should def check them out

I ordered a chicken arepas that was really flavorful. It had chicken, mozzarella, and grilled onions. Food was really fresh too. Service was a little slow, but staff had good energy. Casual place with a real Latin American feel. I will be back!!!

Found this place on google maps, and I am so glad I did! We ordered the ceviche de pescado as an appetizer. This was among the best ceviche dishes I have ever had. The avocado, fish, onions, tomatoes... all of the ingredients were incredibly fresh. And the passionfruit flavor was phenomenal. The seeds in the dish also added a nice texture that I enjoyed. I would come back here just to get the ceviche (and I probably will, although I'm only in town for 2 weeks). The arepas were also amazing. The Carnicera was me and my boyfriend's favorite; the grilled wagyu skirt steak was very tender and very flavorful. The Buenaventura was also delicious. Overall, I was super impressed by all of the dishes' flavors. Nothing was overpowering, nothing was too salty. The restaurant has a lovely ambiance and our server was very friendly as well.

Come here! I stopped by for a quick lunch before leaving town, and I'm so glad I did. Super cute spot with great decor. All of the staff are really friendly and helpful. I was dining alone so I only ordered the carcinera arepa, which had wagyu steak, plantains, and avocado inside a perfectly cooked shell. The chimichurri sauce was incredibly smooth and tasted amazing on everything. The plantain chips on the side were a nice accompaniment. Wish I had the chance to taste more things on the menu! Will have to wait until the next time I'm in town...

Maïs Arepas is one of those rare places where the food is even better than you remember--why don't I come here more? My favorite street corn I've had outside of Texas, the sauces that accompany the arepas are so flavorful and the staff is so helpful! I'll be back.

Literal hidden gem! Arepas were so good! We were traveling with a friend who has celiacs and she didn't have to worry about anything and was able to really enjoy herself. Had empanadas as an appetizer and the steak arepa. Nicely seasoned and had big pieces of steak in it. Definitely will be back when visiting Nola!

Second time coming here and just as impressed as the first. The service is very attentive and helps explain a lot of items and gave suggestions. Literally cannot go wrong with the mojitos. We got the corn and ceviche to share and then everyone got a different arepa and it was all so good!! The restaurant is cute too. I love it here.

I casually wandered into this spot, and it's now my favorite place in New Orleans. The Colombian food was the best I've ever had, hands down! You have to try the corn and the veggie arepas!! The service was amazing, and the music perfectly set the mood--light Spanish tunes with so much energy!

Comfort food at its finest. I cannot visit without getting the corn, it's so good and I always save the excess sauce to dip my plantain chips in. I've had the whole fried fish which is really good. I've also tried the shrimp (marinera) and chicken (Pollo grilliao) arepas and they are both delicious, hard to chose between the two. The restaurant is pretty small so get there early and if there is a wait head to the bar to get the best sangria in the city! Yum!

Contemporary Colombian arepas. It was clean, a simple menu, and it felt like they cared about the food. The sampler was crispy, each one flavorful and beautifully complimented by the salsa rosada. The limeade was very fresh and not very sweet so don't think soda, think sour lime warhead candy. I got the Choriarepa. Best chorizo I've ever had, seriously. It was such a good meal. The arepa was huge! Each ingredient played off of one another. I also tried a few of my friend's plantains and they hit the nail on the head with that. Kind of pricy but worth it.

We are wanting to come today, party of four for lunch, and would like to know if we need to make a reservation? Also wondering about attire, it's a little hot out these days, me, my wife and our two boys 17 and 13? Thanks in advance.

I would make a reservation just to be safe; it gets pretty crowded. You can probably get away with nicer casual attire

    Is there a Happy Hour?

    yes

Trying to make reservations which is how they are seating right now and there is no option when I call to speak with anyone or to make a reservation. Any suggestions besides just driving down there?

I had to just call and make a reservation with the person who answered. I did call before the dinner hours began, so it wasn't hard to get someone on the phone.

Is this restaurant kid friendly? Are there kid friendly food options available.

Depends on what your kid is used to eating. The menu is online or you can access it on fb. My 7 yr old tried everything we ordered just fine and enjoyed his own meal but he is not a picky eater.

    Is this a party bar?

No. It's a small casual restaurant that has a bar. But it's def family friendly and no late hours.

Can your dishes be prepared dairy free?

Do they have gluten free options?

Hello, Amber. Our menu is 100% gluten free! Any specials we may have containing gluten are prepared off premises.

    Do you take reservations?

Hello, Sabrina! We do accept reservations. Please call during our posted business hours or an hour before opening times and someone can assist you.

We were seated in the upstairs area and tried some of their drinks. We got the Brandy Crusta which is their most popular drink and the Pouvez-Vous Poulet which is a seasonal cocktail. The Brandy Crusta has the cup dipped in sugar with a fairly strong cocktail within. Definitely get this when you are here as that is one of the best Brandy Crustas and is historical. The Pouvez-Vous Poulet is a duck fat washed rum cocktail and is also very delicious. You cannot really go wrong with any cocktail, but definitely order the Brandy Crusta for the true experience here. Though, honestly, while the cocktails are good, it was not as memorable as the other Top 50 Best Bars in the World that I have been to, but I won't dock a star off because of this, since the cocktails and overall experience otherwise were fantastic. Service is good but can be a bit slow, but it is an acceptable tradeoff for a more quiet ambience compared to downstairs.

While the Sazerac wasn't invented here, this is arguably its most iconic home, a place where New Orleans cocktail history comes to life. I would use this version as your gold standard when dining out in New Orleans and looking for a perfect Sazerac. We enjoyed watching bartender Rachel craft each drink. Rye whiskey, Peychaud's Bitters, and sugar are stirred in a small pitcher with ice. The serving glass is chilled, then emptied, and finished with an absinthe rinse along the rim. The cocktail is strained into the glass and topped with a lemon peel. The atmosphere makes the experience even better. The murals, the history, and the energy of the room give it a sense of occasion that you do not get at most bars. Atmosphere/Appearance: It's EXTREMELY BUSY and very loud in here. Lol. As mentioned above, the bar is located inside the hotel so once you walk in through the front door you enter the lobby then head to the right. It's a first-come, first-serve situation (at least it was for us at the time). So of course, the carousel bar is the highlight. It's a slow rotating bar rail and it's adorable. Lol. Almost the entire bar is eyeing any available spots so you have to be quick, but be respectful. However, there are tables and such sprinkled throughout the bar where you can hangout at as you stalk the actual carousel. My wife and I sat in the window which made for some excellent people watching. Lol. Eventually after what felt like an hour or we did spot some spots on the carousel, my wife held them for me as I closed the check then finally got to sit... and SPIN! The bar completes a full revolution every 15 minutes so you definitely won't get dizzy. Service: We had no issues here whatsoever. The staff is just super busy all over the place, but they didn't miss a beat. Food: For my first drink I checked out their Oaxacan Midnight which was like a tequila play on the Old Fashioned. It was delicious, a bit lighter than an Old Fashioned, but certainly stood on it's own. For our first appetizer bar bite we tried the Blue Crab & Corn Beignet which didn't come out as I was expecting. Lol. I'm not mad, I just pictured the big, fluffy things from Cafe Du Monde, but maybe stuffed with goodies! These were more like fritter than I absolutely loved so much I ordered a 2nd plate. Lastly we tried the BBQ Shrimp which was grilled to perfection with a good snap, excellent flavor and good char along with a tangy, cream sauce on top. Value: It's pricey. Food and drinks were decent, but a SMIDGE overpriced, but... they know you're going to pay because you're on vacation, you're a tourist and you wanna be in this novelty bar. Lol. Regardless, I had a blast and you can say you did too whenever you check this place out! In conclusion, I've now been there, done that. Lol. I don't have to do it again, but if you're in the area, check this place out. It's a good time.
