This is the first place I have ever reviewed on Yelp, it is that awesome. Caley and Barry just spent about 3 hours with me trying on 4 different boots in 2-3 sizes each. Eventually, we decided to custom fit some new footbeds and try them in the boots that I already have. I saved a lot of money by not buying a new pair of boots today, but when I do buy another pair, this will definitely be the place. I have been skiing since I was 5 years old. I have really messed up feet, partly due to injuries not related to skiing and partly due to the way my feet developed. Everyone there had a huge amount of knowledge about the physiological science of the human body and the relationship with shoes and boots. Larry is possibly the best in the world at what he does. Last year, I was having them mount some bindings on a new pair of skis for me and there was a woman there from Alaska who had flown to Boulder just to have Larry fit her boots. ...And we drank beer and watched last year's Matchstick video while they were working with me... read more

I've worked with Larry and team on numerous occasions over the years and have generally gotten decent service and reasonable pricing. This latest experience however was a complete fiasco. First, through carelessness, they overheated boot liners and burned my foot during fitting. Seriously burned, as in 5 week later I'm still having trouble wearing shoes. Second, they sold bindings that they did not have in stock, saying the setup would be ready in a couple of days. I finally got my skis after 5 weeks, with a complete run-around during that period. Then of course, I took the skis home, and the bindings were badly mounted, i.e.: not tightened down on the skis, and no seal had been used in the screw holes to keep water out of the ski core. I had to take everything apart and reassemble correctly. Not even a hint of an apology for the injury they caused or the crappy service. I will never do business with them again read more

My husband and son spent years wearing boots that are too big; it's the only way they could ski comfortably. I finally talked them into custom boots. We drove the 90 minutes to Larry. He didn't have the right boots, so he sent us across the street to buy boots to be fitted. He made custom foot beds and adjusted the boots, and when we left he told the guys that they needed to ski at least 5 times to pack in the boots. Our son's boots hurt so much that he could only ski an hour or two in them, and he went back to Larry after each of three or four outings. He was told it wasn't worth adjusting them until he had at least 20 hours in. He was ready to quit skiing. My husband's boots were better, but he still wasn't comfortable. In fact, his foot overflows the custom foot bed. After two years, our cousin talked us into going to another shop in Vail. This fitter spent 5 minutes evaluating the foot and ankle for angle, flexibility, etc. He recommended a different boot for each and got it adjusted for the front-to-back stance, then evaluated canting side-to-side. All of this was new to us. The fitter tweaked and adjusted until there was nothing that hurt more than just minor discomfort. He sent the guys up on the mountain and said they should come back if anything bothered them. Our son couldn't be happier with his new boots; he didn't need any further adjustment. My husband had some changes after the first day, and he may have a few more. (They've got about 5 days in so far.) Both are MUCH happier with their new boots. The cost was about the same for both boot fitters. They both made custom foot beds. The second one did a lot more evaluating of feet and ankles and tendons as well as correcting of stance and canting than Larry did. But the most important difference to us is that these boots are comfortable day after day for 6-8 hours at a stretch. It was an expensive lesson. read more

I have called at least 20 times during his posted business hours to try making an appointment. It either rings forever (no voice mail) or it's busy (maybe someone else is also trying to call... ha). Wow, go to Larry's!!! I recommend Larry to everyone. I've have tiny, tiny feet and Larry found a solution. Ski boots have always been a huge source of frustration for me. Larry and his custom boot fittings make skiing ridiculously fun. I've gone on several week long ski trips with my Larry boots and haven't had any foot pains or issues. He gets busy, especially in November when I purchased my boots, so I suggest making an appointment and plan for a few hours if you're getting custom insoles and linings. read more

Went to Larry's for the first time recently, and could not be more pleased. Ken was the guy helping me and was great! Treated me like I knew the scoop and accommodated me in every way. Though my boots were new, wasn't sure if they could be tweaked enough to want to keep them. After multiple heating and fittings, they are a world of difference better. I have full confidence once using them, that even if they need a bit more adjusting, they can do it. I was expecting a higher cost due to the time Ken spent, and was pleasantly surprised with the total. They do get busy (for a good reason), so plan on some time, or make an appointment. Larry is the man! Needed new ski boots. Hard to fit long very wide feet. Arrived 12:30 for 1:30. Appointment. Staff took me right in and began to work. Probably tried 7 different boot makes. Finally settled on Salomon quest 10's. Fitting involved a lot of adjustments, trips to the back room, reheating the liners several times and punching the shell. Walked out at 6 pm with boots fitting very snug and NO pressure points. Never has any boot fitter taken that much interest and dedicated that kind of effort to get the right fit. Thank you, Larry! I don't care how good they are with boot fitting, these guys have TERRIBLE customer service. Brought my boot in to buy a replacement buckle and ended up standing at the door entry for 10 minutes before anyone looked up or acknowledged my presence. Finally, someone took my boot into the back to see if a buckle would fit, and then then came back out and worked with 4 different customers for the next 20 minutes. 30 minutes in, I ask for my boot back to go somewhere else and it takes 10 more minutes for someone to get into the back to grab it. Give me a break. HIRE more people to help customers, or let people know you can't actually help them because your backlogged for 2 weeks. This is not a way to run a service business read more

Now this place may be different for boots but if you are going into the store looking for skis don't expect much. I went in the store and received no help whatsoever when looking for skis, I had to ask for the manager and even he could not give me any advice on what a good ski for me. He gave me vague answers and walked to older customers and helped them out a lot more. It was like he didn't respect me because I was a teenager and even though I would have easily bought a new pair of skis there, he didn't give me the time of day to help out. read more

Larry's knowledge of boot fitting is only surpassed by his patience and friendliness. He created a custom footbed--I highly recommend purchasing one--and performed extensive modifications to a new pair of ski boots. The result: perfectly fitting and extremely comfortable boots. If you live in CO or are able to hop on a plane to get to him, don't even think twice about going. It's unlikely you'll meet a nicer guy with his level of technical expertise who is willing to provide them at such a reasonable price. If you're reading this, thanks, Larry! read more

The one drawback is that if you do not get fitted by the owner who may certainly have years of experience, and have the misfortune of being fitted by someone with minimal experience who puts you in the inappropriate boot you are stuck(when I expressed my concerns with the initial fitting , I was assured it was the correct fit/THE boot for my foot; skiied all my life and basically stopped skiing x 1 yr because of the poor fit (NO foot contact with the boot (I go thru boots ~ every 5 yrs,and until then, never had a boot problem until packout ). The employee who was very UNknowledgeable about boot fitting also adjusted my bindings incorrectly which didnt help. I finally got put into a correct boot after repeated visits over 2 seasons . (but although it was far less expensive than the first one, I had to pay more). At least I can enjoy skiing again and my foot now communicates with the ski. Too bad I missed out on the powder Winter 2010-2011 because of it . A friend had a poor fit w/ a boot from another local shop that "guarantees" the fit. On HIS 3rd return, they put him into a new boot, fit; didnt have too pay more. THAT is guaranteeing the fit. read more

I went to Larry with my boots which were killing my feet only to find that they were two sizes too big which always makes for an uncomfortable experience. I requested for them to rig up whatever they needed to so I could get more use out of them and they did. Larry is not only knowledgeable but he tells you everything you need to know about your boots and then what modifications he's making to the boots and why. I was there for 3 hours but now understand the lengthy process as he wants you to spend enough time in the boots after each adjustment to give feedback. I left with my boots feeling like slippers...who knew that was possible. I will be back to get boot Warmers installed in a few months. He's fantastic! read more

This place is a perfect example of what a bootfitter should be. Wide selection of boots for all levels/skills, expert knowledge of proper boot fit and adjustments, and a warranty that cannot be beat. Buy a pair of boots from them, and they will make as many adjustments, tweaks or modifications that you need to make them fit comfortably for the life of the boot. Now that's service! I'm tired of buying from the big box competitors only to wind up with a sloppy fitting boot that I'm miserable in just to save a few bucks. Larry and his staff made the adjustments I needed to get my boots to fit, all in a very laidback and confident manner. My AT boots were the right size, but my foot was sliding forward, even with a custom footbed. Larry added foam to the front of my boot to hold my ankle back in place -- and only charged me $10 for it! Incredible boot shop, which we are LUCKY to have in Boulder. read more

Not the place to go for telemark boots. They fitted me like I was an alpine racer and I have had a lot of problems with the boot they recommended for me. I have been in five additional times since buying the boot for help. The last time, they just started sticking random pads on the liner of the boots, and stopped talking to me/answering my questions. Larry didn't even come out to talk to me when I voiced my frustration. I then went to Neptune Mountaineering and they made an adjustment to the boot that made all the difference. read more

Larry's is a good place for buying boots with basic fitting. The staff is fantastic and you won't meet a nicer guy than Larry. But this is certainly not a great boot fitter compared to options that are actually at the mountains. For instance, top boot fitters are able to make custom footbeds and are certified pedorthists. The only option at Larry's is an off the shelf footbed they heat up and which does not fit 50% of feet but they'll stick you in it anyway. They also can't do the canting and alignment top shops do. In my case I purchased Solomon boots there which never felt good on my feet. I went back to Larry's and he made it ever worse to the point they were unusable. Finally I took the same boots to a guy at Breck and they are not flawless. My wife also purchased boots from Larry's which turned out to be a full size too small, as verified by three other bootfitters. We had to get new boots for her and they are also flawless right now. I don't blame Larry's they tried their best, but I think if you have anything unusual going on this is not the best option for you. They are certainly a better option than the big box stores though read more

Part of the reason I chose Larry's was all of the good reviews. I appreciate the benefit/cost of a good boot fitting, so I decided to try Larry's even though it was an 1.5 hour drive. I'm sure 9 times out of 10, you'll get a good boot fitting there, but my experience there was less than impressive. I went during the Broncos/Chiefs game, so maybe that was my mistake. PROS: Friendly staff. CONS:1)15 minutes out of Boulder I realized my fitter didn't check to see if my boots would fit my bindings. Not a huge deal, so I turned around, drove back and they did the check. Broncos were ahead. 2)My fitter didn't check the canting. Its been 10 years since I've been to a fitter, so maybe they don't do that anymore? Anyway, not a huge deal as I have a pretty neutral stance, but still, didn't make a good impression on me since my last two fitters did check that. Broncos still ahead. 3)Unlike the other reviews, Larry did not check to see how things were going with my fitter. I dont think he knew I was there. However, the Broncos were trouncing the Chiefs. 4)Loved the fit of the boots, however, my first day in them I noticed they leaked. Bad. I called Larry's to ask about this and the guy I spoke with told me "those boots don't have a problem with leaking." So I Googled them, and sure as hell, thats the top complaint for the boots. So I drove back to Larry's with the boots, showed them the pictures of snow under the shell, and the guy I spoke with said he'd ask Larry about it. "Put silicone on it." $700+ pair of brand new boots, and their suggestion is to put caulking on it. So I asked if I could exchange them. The guy goes back to Larry, and comes back "Larry skis in those boots and he puts duct tape over the gap." Are you sh*ting me! The owner knows the boots leak? That would have been useful info when I was trying them on! So basically I'm SOL, and told to contact the boot mfg. Broncos win! My boots suck! read more

If you need boots to fit, go here. People buy boots that feel good in the store, and a boot that feels good when you first put it on is likely too big to give you proper control. Larry is great at fitting boots. Let's put it this way. When we're skiing all day and we stop for lunch, everyone opens their boots up except me. These boots are more comfortable than slippers. Larry never upsells, never treats me in any way other than a good old friend, even new people get treated like old friends. Seriously, I can't say enough nice things about this place. Where to start. When I needed ski boots, I went to Larrys, knowing his reputation from friends. Heather measured my feet and told me I had a narrow, low volume foot, and recommended 3 boots, none of which they had in stock, but said if I could find them someplace they'd fit them for me. The no-pressure on buying there is a great thing. I'm not rich, I can't afford top of the line new boots, but I did find 2 year old new Seth Morrisons and had them fitted and they're wonderful. Same story with my wife, they told her what would fit and we found a pair of worn-once boots over at BSD and bought them and brought them back to Larrys to be fitted. No pressure, no recrimination because we didn't buy the boots there, just the best, continuously the best, service. And my wife, who typically has cold feet and problems has not complained about these boots at all, loves them. My best advice, if you need boots, is to go in with an open mind and DO WHAT THEY TELL YOU. Get the boots they recommend, get them fitted, and enjoy skiing. read more

Larry is just unreal...a different breed. I will never go anywhere else ever again unless he recommends it. I came in just today with a new pair of boots that the seller had attempted to fit to my feet, but they still didnt feel right. Larry determined that the boots were the right size, but the the retailer had done virtually nothing that they claimed to have done even though I paid them $75.00 for fitting. After about a hour and three different adjustments, he charged me $25.00 even though I would have paid whatever to get them right. I also departed with my boots even though i expected to have to leave them overnight. Larry is an old school Colorado skier whos been doing this longer than anyone and has a ton of knowledge. He is respected throughout the ski community for a reason. Don't mess with the ski shop people; most of whom have no clue. This is a profession, and there are few who have mastered it like Larry. read more
