Fleet Feet was a wonderful experience for picking out new shoes for workouts. This was my first time at this location, and I felt welcomed instantly. Unfortunately, I showed up 30 minutes before close, but all of the staff was accommodating for me staying a few minutes after close to finish my purchase. Gina, Isaac, and Sawyer all helped me through different parts of my shopping experience. I also came away with a Fleet Feet exclusive for my shoes. A superlative experience, as this visit to Fleet Feet (formerly the Boulder Running Company), could not have been better! Searching for new running shoes at 63 YO after not running for a bit, I visited this store because friends had always recommended it. Now I see why, worth the trip to Boulder! I hit the jackpot, as staffer Mike was excellent, with exceptional knowledge of his store, running, and shoes in general. Personnel greeted us warmly. They have a techy sensor pad that examines your feet and makes suggestions about sizing, type of shoes, and brands, then makes suggestions, taking so much of the subjectivity out of the equation. Mike knew his stuff and gave me a pair of options. Both were extremely comfortable and had a great feel. It was a tough call, but the New Balance option emerged victorious and was on sale! They also have a Happy Fit policy, backing up your purchase for 60 days, and will price match. I added some summer running gear and nabbed a calf sleeve Mike recommended with solid reasoning and measurements. In addition, they have incredible apparel and a running club that prepares people for distances and races. Boulder Running Company has joined Fleet Feet, the largest running specialty retailer in the nation. What a great pairing, helping people like me looking for running advice. I'm not an avid runner by any means, but my exercise of choice can be rough on the feet. After doing close to half an hour of many variations of burpees at a HIIT class, I felt shooting pain through the soles of both of my feet every time I landed on time after a jump. It was a sign that my shoes were just not providing the support they needed. Enter...Boulder Running Company. Upon arriving at the store, I was greeted immediately by one of the salespeople. He asked a couple of questions around what type of shoes I've liked in the past and what I plan on doing with the shoes, and then i got sized. Turns out I should have been wearing shoes half a size larger. The salesperson came back with several shoes that met my criteria. Then we did the whole trial-and-error thing by trying on two different shoes at the same time, running around the store, and narrowing it down to a favorite. In the end, it turned out that the shoe on my left foot felt the best the entire time, but then it didn't work on my right foot. What I wish the salesperson did was go back and let me re-test out all the ones that were on my right foot. They all felt fine on my right foot, but the shoe he happened to put on my left foot felt better because it was the one with neutral pronation, whereas the right one is overpronated. We didn't find this out until he did the gait analysis on the treadmill, and by then, he steered me towards heavier shoes with more cushion. I ended up leaving the store with shoes that were a lot heavier than I liked, but it had the cushion that would hopefully keep my feet well protected during those burpees. After over a month with the shoes, I find them to still be heavy, and I feel my feet flopping and slipping around in the shoes during both running and cross-training to the point where my running has slowed and I have trouble balancing my feet for things like push-ups. I mentioned this to the salesperson prior to my purchase, and I was reassured that the wide toebox was meant to prevent bunions. Guess I'll have to buy thicker socks with more grip to compensate. All in all, it was an attentive in-store experience, and I learned about the difference in pronation in my feet. However, I'm dissatisfied with the purchase I made, and I won't be buying the same shoes again once these wear out. read more

The deals seem okay, but the customer service was extremely disappointing. We went in with the full intention of purchasing a pair of shoes ASAP, but found that the associates ignored us completely. The workers felt unapproachable, despite not being busy with customers at the moment. Ended up going to the Runner's Roost in Superior/Lafayette (and purchased a $175 pair of shoes). Great location and friendly staff! Was impressed during my visit for the first time as a sponsor for an event. It took about 30 minutes minutes until someone realized I was a new face but granted, there was a lot going on the entire staff was busy which is always a good sign! The store in general has a wide variety of recovery items and knowledge for what sport you are participating in. I'm definitely not a runner or trying to blaze the trails hiking all over Colorado so felt like the selection was limited based on my basic "sporting participation" but was looking for comfort and style. I realized probably not the place for my taste for that reason but saw how engaged their associates were in making that final selection. If you are a comfort, wander-lust, lazy Saturday type of Colorado resident taking your beach cruiser for an occasional spin and seeking comfort while wearing yoga pants.... this is probably not your jam but I will say, the associates will ensure you give them a test "run" literally which is amazing! read more

I was in the market for new shoes and wanted to do a gait test to get the best fit. I scheduled an appointment for 9 AM, got there shortly after 9 to find the doors locked. An annoyed employee told me they don't open until 10 and when I said I had scheduled a 9 AM appointment, they said "I don't kmow how that could happen." and closed the door. After doing some research online I came in with a rough idea for my first pair of high-end road shoes. Not only did the store have a great selection of everything I had seen online, but I was immediately met with the staff who gave me tons of great advice and insight. The employee who helped me brought out about eight different shoes and was very patient as I "hemmed and hawed" over each pair I laced up. Ultimately I went with shoes that they did not have in stock but was available through their online store. I've purchased three pairs of shoes at this place. Used to kid around with the people helping me of how cheesy it was for all the people who would come in for analysis, use their great advice and then go purchase shoes on line. Well my last pair that were $130 began to give me a blister so I brought them in to see how they could help. Basically a quick google search and they suggested wearing two pairs of socks. I asked if I could get at least some type of credit but nope! So what was I paying for? I thought they would certainly stand behind their shoes. So sure go in and pay three times the cost but Amazon has a better return policy. This place was a ten in my book but when you need them to back or help their product ... they've already cashed the check. Save yourself $. Sadly, A store that I've been coming to for 20+ years has lost its local feel, credibility, and customer service. It has also lost a customer. After being sold a used shoe, finding out that I paid full price on the sale shoe ($50 more than I should have), and being assured by the manager she would resolve the issue. It was not. I have been buying shoes and running gear here for almost 20 years and believe this is the last time I will ever shop there. I have been running for almost 40 years and my favorite shoes are the New Balance 800 series (The current version is the 860) that I trade off with Asics when I run. Anyway, my old shoes are worn out and I went in for my usual 6 month new shoes and the good news is they were having a sale. The bad news is that they had only one size 9 NB 860 (that's one shoe). So far, understandable and I do not believe I have ever had my running shoes on sale. The problem came when I asked when they would be getting new NB shoes. I was informed that they "do not communicate" that information to them. I asked again and was told it is usually 6 weeks (I swear she said 6 months though) after a sale. Really? I guess I will just move my running gear purchases on line. I used to like going here but the sales process has deteriorated over the past year in my opinion. Maybe I am not their target customer anymore. In any event, it is a little sad as I am a loyal customer that does not like to change my routine much. I guess change is good. read more

Don't even mess with online retailers or big corporate sports stores, if you want to buy the right pair of shoes for your own running style there really is no other option. The amount of service you receive is outstanding and incredibly informative, which is surprisingly NOT reflected in the cost. You won't pay more for a pair of great running shoes here than you would anywhere else. Going in I knew about the gait analysis and personal attention they give you but I was honestly terrified at what the price would be. I got a rock star pair of shoes and 5-star treatment without having to pay any more than I would have anywhere else. They even worked to find an affordable pair of clearance shoes to save me , and gave me a discount for being a student. Don't waste your time going anywhere else. I wish i would have gone here 10 years ago when i first started running; it would have saved me a ton of pain and wasted money. You're not saving any money going through Amazon or Dicks, and you'll come away with the absolute best pair of shoes at a competitive price, with free knowledge about your own running form and issues. Best customer service I've ever had! I haven't ran in a long time, getting back to running after a year felt, uh, oh, very painful, and most likely because of my shoes. Drove from Denver to the "Boulder Running Company" in Boulder and was promptly asked if I was looking for help. The sales associate analyzed my feet arches, recommended trying 3 pairs of running shoes for multiple terrains, ran the threadmill, then he explained how my running was from the camera recording, and which shoe was proper to my needs and that would absorb all pains I currently have. All this took about 45 minutes, and their return policy is for 30 days! And the fitting process didn't cost anything, their prices are great! What else can you ask for? Great prices, great staff and a pair of shoes that actually fit! read more

After evaluating my running interests (trail running), one of the employees guided me to a pair of La Sportiva shoes, Bushidos. For $125.00 I purchased the best running shows I've ever owned. Despite my initial skepticism, I took them out for a run and immediately noticed a new level of support and comfort (they did take some time to break into). I was having terrible shin splints, and was in agony over my strained IT bands, and decided I needed a better shoe to prevent further injuring myself. The guy who helped me was very nice, knowledgeable and helpful, outfitting me with some great shoes with custom liners. He could look at my feet and know exactly what brand would work best and even put me on a treadmill to check my running gait. It also didn't hurt that he was gorgeous. Overall, I love my shoes and my shin splints went away almost immediately. My only complaint is the lack of sports bras for us 36E sized women. Curvy girls run too! read more

Bad service + high prices + "attitude" = no thanks. This store has gone downhill. Once a small shop owned/operated by famous runners, now it is a store that is 75% clothing and pink birkenstocks for college kids. The two or three teenagers who work on the floor are giving out the "expert" shoe fittings (yeah right) and are overseen by one babysitter (er, I mean, assistant manager). Good luck getting anyone to talk to you without standing around for 30 minutes first. This happened to me twice recently, and they lost my shoe business. Go to Fleet Feet in North Boulder. Far less attitude and the owners are actually champion runners (husband and wife) not college kids or ownership conglomerate. And yes they have treadmill/video just like Boulder Running Co. Another good choice is Runner's Roost. Boulder Running Co is no better than FootLocker anymore. Too expensive, too much attitude, no service. read more

Great Store been buying shoes for my family and myself for over 20 years. I recently tried to return a pair of $180./00 Brooks Beasts That are 1 1/2 months old. The manager told me it was not a BRC problem but rather a manufacturing problem. She gave me an empty box and told me to ship them back to Brooks. NO HELP, no phone number address or contact person. I was dumbfounded... I know its no problem for BRC but after being treated in the store and on the phone then way I was, I will not be going back. I get better service from Walmart. Customer service is never an issue unless you need it...like pulling teeth from a horse. Your management practices are really bad and uncalled for. read more

For a running store, they mostly carry only what is cliche in the market. They lack the REAL products that runners truly seek out. So.. upon arriving at BRC and expecting to find all of my needs in house, I went home to shop online for the shoes I needed even from La Sportiva, Nathan and Ultimate Direction. Meh.. While they do carry Nathan Product, they don't carry the real "best sellers" of their items for the longer distance trail runners. While they do carry La Sportiva.. they don't carry the shoe I wanted particularly.. this perhaps is not of fault to them. Staff is your run of the mill shoe staff... they act like scientists when they're not. It always puzzles me as to why shoe store staff does gait analysis and then prescribes runners shoes to wear to correct their inefficiencies.. Shoe store staff are neither podiatrists or athletic trainers or exercise physiologists. The first time I went into the store to look for shoes, upon noticing that I was an ultra-runner (tattoo) the store staff immediately tried pushing a pair of Hoka's on me since a top runner wears them... seriously? read more

My husband are both out of shape, and have pretty major injuries to contend with (I broke my femur, he shattered his ankle, pins and screws, months of PT, etc). I grew up in Boulder and love trail running, but it's been almost a decade since I ran and my husband has never done anything that involved special shoes. We were nervous about buying shoes because we both need the right support, and need a lot of help finding it, and we obviously don't fit in with the Boulder athletes. Thankfully the staff at Boulder Running Company made everything easy for us. They were all inviting and pleasant in addition to being extremely helpful! I needed a new bra as well and was extremely impressed with their selection in my size (38 DD). Three people saw my bra selection and commented on how great a bra it is, and it has indeed been a fantastic bra! This store is worth going to just to be helped by staff that is knowledgeable and excited about their job. It's such a rare occurrence. I'm not a runner, but I want to run like one. I started a Couch to 5k program, and realized quickly that having some real running shoes will help keep me out of pain. When I walked in, I was immediately helped by a great staff member who spent an hour with me on the treadmill looking at how different shoes supported my feet. I pronate, I develop massive blisters when I run, I'm prone to shin splints, I wore orthopediac shoes until I was 4, and I have abnormally tight calves according to my podiatrist. Needless to say, now that I'm really running again, I need a really good pair of shoes. This place was recommended by someone in my fitness class, and I got a pair of shoes here like 10 years ago when I ran cross country. Excellent and knowledgeable service. I can't stand running - which is why Boulder Running Company rocks. The employees are the most well-versed product and fit people I've been around. I'm a trail runner, so my needs are obviously different from those of road running. I've probably bought 10 pairs of trail running shoes (about a new pair every year) from Boulder Running Company and each time I get great attention and service. The reality is that I'm not "totally into" the shoes, and going once every year I forget what I'm looking for in a shoe. I never feel talked down to which is great. Gone downhill since being sold to Jack Rabbit I used to love Boulder Running company. The employees actually new a lot about fitting you for running shoes, and I got great individualized service. Since being bought out, they have gone totally downhill. The staff turnover seems higher, employees feel less knowledgeable, and I get poor service. The science is kind of just a marketing thing. What you really get is really great service. You do run on a treadmill which helps them decide what shoes to show you, and then you try them on and they tell you a bunch of helpful things about them. This place is really worth it because they don't really increase the price despite all this helpful service, so it's really just a great bonus. However, the sales person did offer to see if the size I needed was in one of the gazillion shipping boxes waiting to be unpacked & sitting in the store. I didn't want to spend the time waiting for someone to unpack boxes that were never put into inventory. My feeling was that he could have cared less. After wandering around aimlessly for about 10 minutes, I headed over to the shoe section to get started on my quest. An associate, Luz, made eye contact and asked if she could help. SUCCESS! I explained my experience from last time, let her know what I was there for (including a long list of minor injuries I'm currently battling) and she went to work straight away to try to find the right match. This experience was different in that I got to try on (and test out) 4 different pairs/styles of shoe. They were all well-suited to my needs; Luz is a GREAT listener. She listened to me speak my opinion about the likes and dislikes of each shoe and in the end I found a great fit!! Then of course, we headed over to the gait analysis area so she could show me that these were, in fact, a perfect match for my needs. I can't wait to try them out. She even chatted with me about sports bras - let's be real. You can't talk about this with a guy (for obvious reasons) and it actually makes little sense to speak to just ANY woman about it - especially one who doesn't have the same ahem, "needs" when it comes to a good, supportive, high-impact bra.
