A deconstructed Larder blueberry muffin. Skimped on the main ingredient "Blueberries."

Bought a Larder Bakery blueberry muffin at a coffee house. I wanted to love it, but as I am a pastry chef, who loves a good blueberry muffin, I may be more critical than most. The cashier raved about the muffins, so I bought two, a blueberry and a banana. I tried the blueberry which was seriously lacking blueberries considering the size of the muffin. The dough was over sweet, and very, very dry. Perhaps the muffin was day old (which I don't mind, as when I make muffins at home, they sit on my island for a few days allowing for a quick family gram n go meal.) Even day old, they are moist and delicious. I understand that Larder is a wholesale bakery, and probably wholesale a month fin for $2.00 to be sold at hipster coffee houses for $4.50 and $5.00, so they have to keep food costs to a minimum, but when working with volume, a few more blueberries, wouldn't hurt. The blueberry muffin was so disappointing, I'm not trying the banana. I'll give it to a homeless person. They'll love the treat.

Due to the undercooked quality, it's not a cookie I'd get regularly, though I am a big chocolate chip cookie fan. 5/5 Rocky Road: This was delicious. I'm not usually a marshmallow fan, but the addition of this ingredient formed a nice chewy consistency that I expect from a cookie. Chocolatey tidbits were well melted into the cookie texture and produced some fudgey notes. The cookie sizes are large and potentially shareable, and feel like an every once in awhile treat.

I've tried some drinks here and they were alright. A friend was into their banana matcha when they have that in stock. Pretty simple layout here. When it comes to desserts, I always get a Napoleon ($9) since it's my favorite and they make it well. I tried the Tropical Mango ($11) and Framboiselle ($9.50) for the first time and they were really good! They have both become a new favorite of mine and I will order them again! Service was great as well. I just wish that they would carry more savory croissants at this location.

I got a sausage bbang, a chocopie, and a dalgona latte. The sausage bbang was soggy on the bottom and honestly tasted like it was from the day before. The chocopie barely had any filling, just a thin layer of marshmallow and jam. It honestly felt like they used most of the marshmallow for their Dubai choco cookie because it's probably more profitable, instead of properly filling the chocopie. If that's the case, it's better not to sell it at all than serve something like that. The dalgona latte was also disappointing. With ice, the drink only filled to the bottom third line of the cup marking. Clearly, they skimped on the milk. There was also a weird moment when I paid. My total was $15.25 and I paid cash, but I was given $4.75 in change. When I said it should be $5, she seemed confused and asked what I meant. I told her I literally gave you a quarter right now, and she questioned it before eventually giving me the correct change. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and assume it was a mistake. I understand times are hard, but charging more for products that clearly had corners cut doesn't sit right with me. It just comes across like there's no integrity. Clearly the quality and portions are going downhill. I wasn't even planning on writing this review. I was going to stay quiet, but the chocopie really ticked me off. I'm not going to pay for food that skims on ingredients and shortchanges customers by charging more for less, so this will be my last visit.
