A HIDDEN GEM. Truly the BEST French croissant & stuffing on the Westside and quite frankly in all of LA even when compared against pricey French shops such as Artelice, Chaumont in Beverly Hills, Cream Pan in OC...etc. I normally am not an almond croissant person but Five Star Frogs has THE best almond croissant and filling. The filling is soft and decadent, textured but not gritty and it straddles the line by being almond flavor & texture but a slight custard flavor as well. The croissant bread itself is PHENOMENAL. There's a delicate crispy, golden brown shell that crackles when you bite into it. Inside is a light, buttery interior that's soft and airy with distinct layers and somehow cleverly manages to be decadently soft and doughey without being greasy. Honestly a work of art and a true genius in its making - I'm shocked this spot hasn't blown up more and/or hasn't been a brick and mortar yet. From best to least best: * almond croissant (my god I can't stop thinking of this. Both the bread and the almond filling is out of this world) * Chocolate almond croissant (this is ranked second simply because the almond filling and croissant bread is simply that good. The chocolate adds a nice second dimension but is not needed). * apricot danish (so fresh and addictive to eat however the croissant bread is simply more clever than the danish bread and so is the almond filling) * cinnamon raisin bun - so delicious but I hurt so happen to like the other buns more personally * pistachio swirl bun (still REALLY good but nothing compares to the croissant bread). The swirl bun was slightly a bit more dry so I didn't care for this as much but it's still good and the pistachio filling was yummy. OMG!!!! Just last night my spouse and I were watching a travel video on YouTube about Parisian Bakeries (Top 10) and the raspberry croissant we were GIVEN by the super nice young lady along with our other purchase looked JUST LIKE that "top 10" Parisian bakery croissant. We bumped into Frogs at the Westlake Village Farmers Market today Easter Sunday after church... It's a beautiful gorgeous day... And oh what a pleasant surprise here... We dug into our Almond croissant 1st, it was perfectly crunchy and oh so incredibly soft & fresh with tremendous almond filling!!! My wife immediately commented "OMG! I could eat the whole thing but it's gotta be over 2000 calories"!!! She is a size zero petite so counts calories & was a gymnast long ago. So she humorously complains... I on the other hand love almond croissants and all tasty things. I must agree with ALL MY Heart and ALL my taste buds that this almond croissant is DA BOMB of croissants to defeat ALL other croissants everywhere!!! It's like MAGIC because this was oh so beautiful with visually beautiful powdered sugar and its' perfect crusty finish ... I've not tried the raspberry yet, as I'm letting my spouse of 38 years go first. So... I must go again to get more but my wife is gonna kill me. She's the dieting "gatekeeper" here and I'm supposed to be on a diet. I need to break my routine for another croissant... From here of course. No, not anywhere else... And I've gotta try some other pastries too!!! So why 5 stars? ARE WE CRAZY??? Nope!!! I'd have given 1000 stars after my first bite of that almond bomb!!! Now I'm gonna try the raspberry croissant except... It's so beautiful to look at I don't wanna spoil it!!! I guess I'll have to sacrifice and just settle for the pictures of it. Actually I'm gonna try to sneak away and get another couple croissants before my wife can notice I'm missing!??? 5 stars it is because I can't click it 995 more times and get to 1000 stars. Nice generous folks ... My wife just called out from our kitchen "...that's like THE BEST almond croissant..." Sign... How can we measure happiness? I know how with another almond croissant!!! [Edited extra] I just sneaked out, my wife doesn't know... I bought two more almond croissants and I'm going to try the ham croissant. Oh these look so beautiful.... Okay, my wife just caught me with the new purchases. And to my surprise, she approves! And she just said we cannot get these every week. Otherwise we're going to gain weight. The desserts and bread here are delicious and high-quality. The employees were very friendly and helpful. They had a nice variety available, not too sweet and perfectly baked. Prices are very fair, you can find their goods at the Melrose farmers market as well as other farmers market markets in the area. Worth checking out! read more

I wish they had a store to visit! I guess they are only at the farmers market around. The bread is such a great consistency. Crusty on the outside and fluffy in the inside. The pecan cranberry and walnut raisin loaves are amazing! And my husband devoured their pistachio morning bun. It's cute they all speak French too. This used to be the BEST bakery, with consistently excellent bread and pastries. Last month, picked up a loaf of bread, when I got it home, realized it was stale. It was the first time this had happened, so used it for French toast instead of as planned. Today, at the Santa Monica Farmers Market, we bought almond croissants and a loaf of French Country bread. When we got home, we discovered everything was stale. We will not be buying anything from this bakery in the future. read more

The overall quality of breads has gone down in the last 4 or 5 weeks. Today, I bought a baguette at the Calabasas Farmer's Market and it is like a Baguette you find at sprouts or Vons or any regular supermarket for half the price. I think they are using lower quality flour and ingredients. Most of the breads are bad now, not worth the high prices they charge. I will not buy anything there.
