Far exceeded my expectations. Firstly, they saved our daughter's birthday party by making a cake where-as 3 others places couldn't. We wanted cupcakes in the shape of a number 5. Seems simple right? Ralph's on Bundy said they don't have a decorator. Ralph's on Olympic said their cake machine is broken. Susie Cakes said they couldn't make a cake from cupcakes. Cakes.com took the order and then sent a cancellation email 2 days later. So, going to yelp and seeing so many good reviews for Star Bakery we tried them. Walking in the place doesn't look like much, it's kinda small in front and not fancy. I told them what I wanted and they said "no problem". Really friendly person helping us at the counter and then a really helpful decorator who refined the order via text messages the next day. They gave me a price which I thought was very high but I admit I don't really know what these things should cost. All I know is it was quite a bit more than Cakes.com who cancelled my order via email so I'll never try to use them again. (Or Ralph's for that matter) Here is the best part: The end result not only looked better than I had anticipated but the quality and taste was incredible. Honestly the best tasting cupcakes I've ever had. And it wasn't just me who said how good they were; everyone at the birthday party loved them. The whole experience with Star Bakery was an epic success and I am so delighted they are in my neighborhood. Finally, I should mention Star isn't expensive across the board. They had some beautiful looking tarts in the refrigerated case that were very reasonably priced. They will give you a price for a custom cake up front and if you say yes, be assured it will be a top quality cake. read more

Star bakery is top quality. It is hard to find Persian cookies and pastries this fresh. The staff is also very friendly! Two thumbs up! read more

Needed a place nearby to get a friend a birthday cake on July 4th, and decided on this spot! Cute little persian mom/pop bakery with its own parking lot (so convenient for quick pop-ins) There was only 1 person in when I got there, so very attentive service. The owner lady came out to tell me about the flavor of the cakes and pricing. Not overly sweet, but just the right amount. What I got: Tiramisu cake + cookies -- I read the reviews that their cookies were really good, so tried some baklava and 1 other cookie (personally thought it was OK). For my personal taste, thought baklava was too sweet but think this is how it's supposed to be? -- Tiramisu got good reviews from the group; not overly sweet and was with nicely textured ladyfingers (large cost me $55, smaller cakes were $42) -- 3 baklava pieces + 2 cookies = $6 Think it was a tad expensive for what I got? Perhaps on another round of cake buying, would try Susie Cakes in the neighborhood to see what that hype is about! But good to support mom/pop and have some different variety. As I was leaving, lots of other people came in - think this is quite a popular bakery w/ the Persian community read more

I wish i didn't go off the good reviews because there is nothing good from this bakery. Old and stale pastries. It was a waste of money.

Really delicious pastries been coming here for many many years. Love the cheesecakes and cream puffs not too sweet - just perfect! Can't beat the price of either. affordable and delicious. read more

Went to pickup an online order, they informed me they do not have a computer or tablet to get orders, they never have. Its 2025 no excuse to not have technology if you are accepting online orders. Star bakery is a Persian bakery in small complex of Santa Monica with decent parking lot. For the food: Hands down the best almond cookies on the Westside. I've tried at different Persian bakeries and star bakery has the best texture: crisp crust, chewy inside, slightly sweet. This is the main item I get here - Its priced per pound. They also have baklava and cakes, but I'd prefer to get those elsewhere. read more

the guy at register has no customer service attitude; he seemed angey and in a rush.quality is not great as well too much oil and was too dry. the peices looked good but taste was dry oily and could taste a lot of SUGAR. I came in to get a little sweet snack before work. First off the two employees looked at me up and down like I was some piece of trash. I tried to be friendly and make light conversation but the lady didn't seem to really care until I ordered a bread pudding and creme brûlée. The bread pudding was dry and hard. I've worked in a bakery and I've made bread pudding. It was at least 3 days old. Super stale. And tastes like refrigerator. The creme brûlée wasn't too bad. I like to support small businesses but I won't be coming here again. I don't like when I walk into a place and I'm immediately given the stink eye. It's mean. I get people have bad days, but down take it out on random strangers just trying to support your business. read more

The employees are always nice and the cakes are fairly decent. They also have fair prices.

First off the customer service is amazing. The woman at the register told me just about everything on the cookies they had there. My fiancé sent me from mid city to the west side specifically to get 1 type of cookie for him but it all looked so good I ended up walking out with about 3 pounds of cookies. Everything was baked fresh. read more

Quaint. Friendly. Delicious. Small establishment in a strip mall, that is well worth visiting. The bakery has some familiar items mixed in alongside foreign treats, which recipes the owners brought here from abroad. Owner is happy to help describe anything as you may not know about some of their unique treats. Everything is presented decadently and in small serving sizes, so it is easy to try a little bit of everything. And trust me, once you walk in, you will want one of each also. Definitely get at least one of the mini cakes. So moist and flavorful. read more

I got 5 small desserts for $7.50 and proceeded to eat them immediately. the highlight was the various bakava. Custard eclair was decent, and the orange flavor cake was a bit dry and didn't taste good--it was also half my bill. It's a reasonably priced place. The ladies were friendly and service was quick. $5 minimum with card. read more

I have lived in California for 7 years now and I have always missed good old pastries from bakeries backhome (Iran). Until I came across the Star bakery. Their pastry selection is fantastic. Their prices are very reasonable and on top of that everything is FRESH! I am their regular customer and I can't say good enough about them. Their breads (Barbari, noone Shirmal and Sokhari) are great as well. I personally love their fruit tarts. I mean I can sit here and name every single item that they sell. :-) If you live in the area, do yourself a favor and walk in there sometimes and see it for yourself! BTW, the employees there are very nice as well. I have never encountered any rudeness and attitudes..:-) read more

Had been in this plaza to grab a bagel and saw this place as I was getting in my car. I wanted to grab some pastries for some friends. The woman that was helping me was very sweet and accommodating. I got a few pastries for my friends and a few for myself. They had a mixture of American cakes and Iranian pastries. I wound up getting some cakes and tried a cream puff and an eclair. They were ok but wouldn't go out of my way for these pastries again. Would come back to try the Iranian pastries! Those looked good. read more

This place was bad. How do I put it -- this place was really bad. Service is ok -- no problem. But the pastries... how shall I describe them. They give the impression of having been press-cut form something freeze dried and delivered to Walmart in staggeringly large trays. I have no baking experience. I do not know whether they bake pastries in house. What I can say, is that I hope that the pastries they feature are not the result of their baking. I'm sorry, but they were not good. Somewhere between stale and not tasty. read more

If you are against racism avoid this place. Experienced DISCRIMINATION based on race at STAR BAKERY. My husband (who is white) used to come here to buy cakes and order birthday cakes for us and I loved their cake specially when I was pregnant and he never had a problem. This time I (black woman) went in with him to order a cake for my daughter's birthday and the lady said they don't do cake tower for 15 people they only do for 20 or 25 plus but my boyfriend said it's fine we can save the rest we just want it to look that way then she proceeded to say it's too much for 15 people then said to me "YOU SHOULD GO TO WALMART INSTEAD. THEY HAVE GOOD CAKES THERE" After I confronted her she said she herself ordered her daughters wedding cake from Walmart which I found strange because why would a bakery owner or worker go to Walmart to order cake? It honestly made me feel so sad and hurt. read more

Hands down, one of the best bakeries in West LA. I tried them for the first back in late 2019 when I was looking to buy pastries for my wife's baby shower. I bought an assortment of pastries and they were delicious. After a long break due to COVID, I finally went back with my family and it was just a delicious as we remember it. The gal who worked there was super sweet and made us feel welcomed. She treated our little boy with so much love. All of this to say, check them out!! You will not be disappointed. read more

Everything is really pretty/well displayed here but nothing tasted that great. The cakes were dry. The cream-filled pastries were on the blander side. The creme brulee was good but tasted like the sugar particles stuck out. Both the custard and the cream eclairs were very dry. The fruit boat was the only item that got a thumbs up. read more

LOVE this bakery!! Not only are the pastries delicious, the staff is always so courteous and knows how to make the customers feel very special. Lots of desert options and varieties. Cute little bakery in West LA and by far the best place to get Persian custard filled piroshky.

Happy pre-4th of July! Yelp's Kay P.'s review (see http://www.yelp.com/biz/star-bakery-los-angeles#hrid:-XdQ9r4WXK-ibq0AwrQ82Q) inspired me to look for this remarkable bakery, located in the modest looking plaza one street east of Barrington and Santa Monica. Star sells cookies by weight, but while I was sorely tempted by the wonderful array of cookies, my mission here was to acquire pastries. I ended up focusing my attention on the cases which featured tray upon tray of sugary goodness, like cappuccino balls that resemble mini ice-cream cones, cakey roulettes with creamy filling, and brightly-colored fruit tarts that were too pretty to leave on the shelf. I asked for a box from the friendly proprietress, Zali, and ordered a swath of goodies. One of these, one of those, one of this, one of that... amazingly, eight pieces came out to a little over ten dollars. I felt like I had gotten at least five bucks of sheer presentation, so the only thing left to do was to show off and share the bounty. It is difficult to overstate my satisfaction with this establishment, as everything pleased. The crumbly crust on the tarts is good enough even without the delicious, glazed fruit. The custard filling is so light and tasty I could eat a bowlful of it with a spoon. When I go back (no "if" about it), not only do I have to request the cookies, but I'll definitely have to try my luck with the other roolets and pastries, too. You don't need to walk in with much cash to sample the fresh, skillfully created wares of Star Bakery, but if you're on a diet, you'd best roll in with some willpower. Too good! Five stars. read more

Uh oh....breaking news, I suppose ^_^.. I was once again extremely grateful when the same sweet patient offered us the pound's worth of those Almond Cookies. The good news was that they delivered the consistent, intensely almond-y essence that I've ever indulged. But the bad news is that, this time, it was much mushier--i.e. they were still a bit undercooked =\. And I also didn't expect sticky fingertips & the difficulty of removing one cookie on top of the other, likely b/c of the suspiciously undercooked mishaps. Damn it, damn it, damn it! I guess I'll have to find a bakery elsewhere who can create completely cooked, chewy, bomb diggity almond cookies. But I'm still so appreciative for the loyal patient always giving us treats =). Oh, & I'll never forget that antipathic situation after I entered that bakery.. read more

Star Bakery PLEASE deny me service if I should visit more than twice a week... My waist line would thank you for it :) UPDATE: I bought a birthday cake for my friend's mother's 52nd b-day and boy was it delicious. She knew that the cake was made by a Persian Bakery with her first bite. She was quite excited and impressed with the cake and with my thoughtful selection. I'm so glad I discovered this cute little bakery, as I would have never thought to buy a cake from a Persian Market; I probably would have gotten something nice from Whole foods as I normally do. Thank you so much Star bakery for the great service you've given me every time I enter your bakery. read more

We decided to go British and invited a friend over for some tea and light refreshment. We got the tea department taken care of. The only thing missing was the light refreshment. That wasn't a problem as Star Bakery was just around the corner. I've only one bad experience buying a large Mocha cake here. The frosting was good but the cake itself was really dry and chronic-cough-inducive. However, the mini cakes and treats were what I was really after. Let's start with the Napoleons. Flaky buttery thin layers of crust were exciting to look at as well as to eat. There were two flavors - custard and strawberry. I didn't know which I liked more so I got both (still don't know now). The fruit tarts were another amazing feat. Sweet crumbly crust was loaded with boatful of fruits - strawberry, mandarin, blackberry, kiwi, peach - held together by a custard layer. They got the crust recipe perfected here. They also had these miniature cream balls that were flavored with strawberry or pistachio and supported by a mini almond crust cup. As small as they were, it definitely took two or three bites to finish. Thanks to Star Bakery, my tea party was not hollow and pointless like the other Tea Party that's popping up everywhere in the nation. The only hotheads here were the result of sipping the hot tea and the sweet talks were of tarts and Napoleons. Better yet, my tea party was not as expensive either. Truly great bakery, I won't go anywhere else before a party anymore. As everyone else said, the small pieces are great, affordable, diet-friendly (okay, that may be pushing it, but better to eat a tiny cake than a big slice, right?), and oh so cute! On my last trip I bought (see pictures): -chocolate mousse - heavenly -creme brule - 4*, because the little round tin can is a bit inconvenient to eat out of -tiramisu - good, this one is a hit or miss, but usually a big hit here! -creme puffs - the best, the best, the best -the big fruit cup with strawberry creme under it, in chocolate waffle bowl with grilled sugar under it... I forgot the name! It was my first time trying this one and I have to say I loved it! I will definitely have this one again. -another cake I forgot the name of - with coconut on top, delicious layers... -and a last one I forgot the name of - with pistachio and cherry on top. All of the above for $11.22. The lady behind the counter - yes, she is not your typical smiley American bakery assistant. She is probably the owner('s wife)... She has been very sweet to me so far though, so I will say great service. Parking is available (strip mall setup), never had to wait too long as they don't get busy, they pack things up for you nicely, what else do you need? This is the best value for cakes on the West side, hands down! read more

Star Bakery, you are awesome! I really love this bakery. I have been coming here for 12 years with a large gap in between. I used to come here 2-3 times a week when I lived nearby. What's great is they sell pieces and slices of cakes and treats so you can have a small treat or try a little of everything without buying a lot. Everything has been good. I love their Tiramisu, the rolets, the mini cakes- esp tiramisu flavor. The mini cakes were a hit when I brought them to work. Everyone got a small piece of cake and there was no wasting. Plus, we were able to sample lots of different cakes. We had banana, lemon, passion, cappuccino, mocha, tiramisu........those are the ones I remember. The women that I have had serve me have been warm, welcoming and explain what the different things are- if I happen to ask. Last time I went, the woman gave me some free barbari bread which was so sweet. I am not Persian and she enjoyed that I loved the bakery and the foods they had. Prices are right. Parking in lot.
