Far exceeded my expectations. Firstly, they saved our daughter's birthday party by making a cake where-as 3 others places couldn't. We wanted cupcakes in the shape of a number 5. Seems simple right? Ralph's on Bundy said they don't have a decorator. Ralph's on Olympic said their cake machine is broken. Susie Cakes said they couldn't make a cake from cupcakes. Cakes.com took the order and then sent a cancellation email 2 days later. So, going to yelp and seeing so many good reviews for Star Bakery we tried them. Walking in the place doesn't look like much, it's kinda small in front and not fancy. I told them what I wanted and they said "no problem". Really friendly person helping us at the counter and then a really helpful decorator who refined the order via text messages the next day. They gave me a price which I thought was very high but I admit I don't really know what these things should cost. All I know is it was quite a bit more than Cakes.com who cancelled my order via email so I'll never try to use them again. (Or Ralph's for that matter) Here is the best part: The end result not only looked better than I had anticipated but the quality and taste was incredible. Honestly the best tasting cupcakes I've ever had. And it wasn't just me who said how good they were; everyone at the birthday party loved them. The whole experience with Star Bakery was an epic success and I am so delighted they are in my neighborhood. Finally, I should mention Star isn't expensive across the board. They had some beautiful looking tarts in the refrigerated case that were very reasonably priced. The owner lady came out to tell me about the flavor of the cakes and pricing. Not overly sweet, but just the right amount. What I got: Tiramisu cake + cookies -- I read the reviews that their cookies were really good, so tried some baklava and 1 other cookie (personally thought it was OK). For my personal taste, thought baklava was too sweet but think this is how it's supposed to be? -- Tiramisu got good reviews from the group; not overly sweet and was with nicely textured ladyfingers (large cost me $55, smaller cakes were $42) -- 3 baklava pieces + 2 cookies = $6 Think it was a tad expensive for what I got? Went to pickup an online order, they informed me they do not have a computer or tablet to get orders, they never have. Its 2025 no excuse to not have technology if you are accepting online orders. I've tried at different Persian bakeries and star bakery has the best texture: crisp crust, chewy inside, slightly sweet. This is the main item I get here - Its priced per pound. I came in to get a little sweet snack before work. First off the two employees looked at me up and down like I was some piece of trash. I tried to be friendly and make light conversation but the lady didn't seem to really care until I ordered a bread pudding and creme brûlée. The bread pudding was dry and hard. I've worked in a bakery and I've made bread pudding. It was at least 3 days old. Super stale. And tastes like refrigerator. The creme brûlée wasn't too bad. I like to support small businesses but I won't be coming here again. I don't like when I walk into a place and I'm immediately given the stink eye. It's mean. The bakery has some familiar items mixed in alongside foreign treats, which recipes the owners brought here from abroad. Had been in this plaza to grab a bagel and saw this place as I was getting in my car. I wanted to grab some pastries for some friends. The woman that was helping me was very sweet and accommodating. I got a few pastries for my friends and a few for myself. They had a mixture of American cakes and Iranian pastries. I wound up getting some cakes and tried a cream puff and an eclair. This place was bad. How do I put it -- this place was really bad. Service is ok -- no problem. But the pastries... how shall I describe them. They give the impression of having been press-cut form something freeze dried and delivered to Walmart in staggeringly large trays. I have no baking experience. I have lived in California for 7 years now and I have always missed good old pastries from bakeries backhome (Iran). Until I came across the Star bakery. Their pastry selection is fantastic. Their prices are very reasonable and on top of that everything is FRESH! I am their regular customer and I can't say good enough about them. Their breads (Barbari, noone Shirmal and Sokhari) are great as well. I personally love their fruit tarts. Hands down, one of the best bakeries in West LA. I tried them for the first back in late 2019 when I was looking to buy pastries for my wife's baby shower. I bought an assortment of pastries and they were delicious. After a long break due to COVID, I finally went back with my family and it was just a delicious as we remember it. Everything is really pretty/well displayed here but nothing tasted that great. The cakes were dry. The cream-filled pastries were on the blander side. This is my favorite bakery in LA! It's an Armenian Persian bakery, and it has the most decadent and fresh cream puffs made with love and real whip cream. The ladies who work here are always so pleasant and wonderful. They have an amazing assortment of delicious cookies, which are a welcome treat at any holiday party or potluck. Happy pre-4th of July! Star sells cookies by weight, but while I was sorely tempted by the wonderful array of cookies, my mission here was to acquire pastries. I ended up focusing my attention on the cases which featured tray upon tray of sugary goodness, like cappuccino balls that resemble mini ice-cream cones, cakey roulettes with creamy filling, and brightly-colored fruit tarts that were too pretty to leave on the shelf. I asked for a box from the friendly proprietress, Zali, and ordered a swath of goodies. One of these, one of those, one of this, one of that... amazingly, eight pieces came out to a little over ten dollars. I felt like I had gotten at least five bucks of sheer presentation, so the only thing left to do was to show off and share the bounty. It is difficult to overstate my satisfaction with this establishment, as everything pleased. The crumbly crust on the tarts is good enough even without the delicious, glazed fruit. The custard filling is so light and tasty I could eat a bowlful of it with a spoon. When I go back (no "if" about it), not only do I have to request the cookies, but I'll definitely have to try my luck with the other roolets and pastries, too. You don't need to walk in with much cash to sample the fresh, skillfully created wares of Star Bakery, but if you're on a diet, you'd best roll in with some willpower. Too good! Uh oh....breaking news, I suppose ^_^.. I was once again extremely grateful when the same sweet patient offered us the pound's worth of those Almond Cookies. The good news was that they delivered the consistent, intensely almond-y essence that I've ever indulged. But the bad news is that, this time, it was much mushier--i.e. they were still a bit undercooked =\. And I also didn't expect sticky fingertips & the difficulty of removing one cookie on top of the other, likely b/c of the suspiciously undercooked mishaps. Damn it, damn it, damn it! I guess I'll have to find a bakery elsewhere who can create completely cooked, chewy, bomb diggity almond cookies. But I'm still so appreciative for the loyal patient always giving us treats =). We decided to go British and invited a friend over for some tea and light refreshment. We got the tea department taken care of. The only thing missing was the light refreshment. That wasn't a problem as Star Bakery was just around the corner. I've only one bad experience buying a large Mocha cake here. The frosting was good but the cake itself was really dry and chronic-cough-inducive. However, the mini cakes and treats were what I was really after. Let's start with the Napoleons. Flaky buttery thin layers of crust were exciting to look at as well as to eat. There were two flavors - custard and strawberry. I didn't know which I liked more so I got both (still don't know now). The fruit tarts were another amazing feat. Sweet crumbly crust was loaded with boatful of fruits - strawberry, mandarin, blackberry, kiwi, peach - held together by a custard layer. They got the crust recipe perfected here. They also had these miniature cream balls that were flavored with strawberry or pistachio and supported by a mini almond crust cup. As small as they were, it definitely took two or three bites to finish. Thanks to Star Bakery, my tea party was not hollow and pointless like the other Tea Party that's popping up everywhere in the nation. Truly great bakery, I won't go anywhere else before a party anymore. As everyone else said, the small pieces are great, affordable, diet-friendly (okay, that may be pushing it, but better to eat a tiny cake than a big slice, right?), and oh so cute! I forgot the name! It was my first time trying this one and I have to say I loved it! She has been very sweet to me so far though, so I will say great service. Star Bakery, you are awesome! I really love this bakery. I have been coming here for 12 years with a large gap in between. I used to come here 2-3 times a week when I lived nearby. What's great is they sell pieces and slices of cakes and treats so you can have a small treat or try a little of everything without buying a lot. Everything has been good. I love their Tiramisu, the rolets, the mini cakes- esp tiramisu flavor. The mini cakes were a hit when I brought them to work. Everyone got a small piece of cake and there was no wasting. Plus, we were able to sample lots of different cakes. We had banana, lemon, passion, cappuccino, mocha, tiramisu........those are the ones I remember. The women that I have had serve me have been warm, welcoming and explain what the different things are- if I happen to ask. Last time I went, the woman gave me some free barbari bread which was so sweet. I am not Persian and she enjoyed that I loved the bakery and the foods they had. Prices are right. Parking in lot.
