Pretty glad we stumbled across this place because everything we tried was really good. We got a couple of pastries and a croissant and honestly they were all pretty solid. The croissant especially was really buttery and flaky, hit the spot for sure. I will say that everything looked almost too good to eat but we managed. No complaints at all on the quality, you can tell they put a lot of care into what theyre making. The staff was pretty nice and helpful when we were trying to figure out what to order since we couldnt really decide. Not a huge deal but it was a busy morning and things moved along pretty smoothly. Overall pretty great little bakery. If youre looking for a spot to grab some quality pastries and maybe a coffee this is definitely worth checking out. Would definitely come back next time were in the area.

Champignon: Hazelnut crunch at the bottom with hazelnut creme. The mushroom cap had a small layer of sponge cake and hazelnut creme on top. Lychee rose: Very light on lychee flavor, there's a combination of lychee and a light rose scent. It's layered with sponge cake, 2 layers of jelly. Sweetness similar to Asian cake.

Order and pay at the counter and find a table indoors or outside. Both areas are nice, however inside, the noise level is a wee bit louder, however I haven't had any issues having a conversation with a friend. For those with sensitive ears, just sit outside. One can come here for coffee. Free refills! You can ask for a cup ( their cups are glass), but the coffee doesn't stay warm long. If you plan on sitting there and don't mind a paper cup To Go, order your coffee in a To Go cup. Food: each time I have ordered food to eat there, it arrives promptly and presented beautifully. Their sandwiches are made with their house made bread! Delicious! Try to save room for one of their pastries or desserts. Tartine is an oasis to relax, unwind, catch up with friends, people watch. Parking: paid lot, adjacent, not cheap.

The quiche was baked perfectly- delicate custard and a beautiful crust. The salad was crisp, fresh, and dressed with a terrific vinaigrette. The tuna sandwich was delicious. The bread had a great chew, good crust. The filling was just the right ratio to bread. Yummy tuna - super flavor. A mini suggestion would be that it seemed to missing a surprise. The only reason for this comment is the sandwich was graced with a pickled carrot. A pickled carrot! Consider tossing some fried capers into the tuna salad. The texture and crunch would serve as that tiny surprise. Again, it's fantastic as is. We took a baguette home to enjoy later. Tartine knows bread. Excellent texture and chew. Definitely worth a visit. And a return visit.

I can see why he loves it -- the egg tarts are very custardy and rich, with a lightly eggy flavor but the sweetness from heavy cream in each bite contrasting to the flaky crust. We also got the red velvet cheesecake, which was pretty standard. The strawberry and cream cookie was massive and I loved the strawberry flavor! It was a little too sweet for me but for the average American palette is probably perfect. There's a parking lot but pretty limited seating (that gets a lot of sun), so plan on taking it to go unless you want to casually borrow a table next door...

We were delighted with the box of cookies and tarts that they brought from Paderia in Santa Monica. The chocolate chip walnut cookies were fat and soft with a slightly crisp exterior. The thickness of them allowed a plethora of rich chips to reside inside. I'm not a fan of chunks of nuts in cookies but these were chopped in tiny pieces, so did not take away from the overall soft texture. The soft peanut butter chocolate cookie was also a huge fattie with peanut butter chips within the chocolate cookie. Both were enhanced with a quick warm-up. I loved both of these cookies and think the chocolate chip is the very best you'll ever find. We also had Portuguese egg tarts. The pastel de nata (if I recall, this is what they are called) I ate was small but good, but I have had others that were more to my liking, with a sweeter custard and a more caramelized top, which I guess is a personal preference. Not to say it wasn't delicious - it was! I love the cookies so much I'll be checking out their Irvine location soon, which is much closer to me.

I was a little surprised to stumble upon this place while picking up an order at Layla Bagels for my wife. While I didn't try the bagels on this trip, I have reason to believe that the JI bagels may very well be the best on the block. I can speak directly to the quality of the other things that I did order. The croissant and brioche loafs were magical. The caneles were delicious. And while I didn't get to actually try the strawberry matcha cookie because my dog stole it off the counter, she surely seemed to enjoy it. Excited to dig further into the more savory offerings during my next visit.

Not going to lie, I was a little disappointed…read more I think there might be an issue with quality control in my humble opinion. 1) City Sourdough was good. 2) Flavor of the croissants were good. But they were very overcooked. Too crunchy on the outside and dry on the inside. Cinnamon bun was good. 3) Ordered a cappuccino and cortado. Let me preface with the fact that I never have high expectations when ordering coffee from a bakery; because I understand that coffee is not their specialty. This was seriously the worst cappuccino I have ever tasted. I can't even explain in words how bad it was. It was like rocket fuel. So harsh and bitter; inedible! I thought, maybe I just got a bad espresso shot. But the cortado was the same. My husband took the coffees back to the barista. (who was very helpful). My husband ordered 2 drip coffees instead, hoping it would be better since espresso is not involved. Again, it was the worst drip coffee I've ever tasted. Airport coffee is better. We tried to drink it but eventually tossed it. Makes no sense because I saw that you even have your beans specially roasted for your business. Something was terribly wrong! (Btw, when my husband brought back the coffees, we were refunded, and then paid for the drip coffee.) 4) The baguette was fine. 5) Everything bagel: Idk what is going on but that was not a bagel. It was soft everywhere. There was no chewy, firm exterior. Just soft, like dry sandwich bread from the grocery store. (I tried this at Ggiata Delicatessen Studio City). I really wanted to like this bakery! Hopefully the quality can be improved.

My first time- with the high, beam-exposed ceiling and layout, has Joan's on Third vibes. No seating inside but plenty outdoors, although the closer to the entrance, you need to talk loudly above the music. I went late (to meet a friend) at 1pm. Few choices in the pastry section though it looked like they would replenish, which they barely did an hour later. Here's what I got: FRENCH SILK PIE - OMG, the chocolate mousse like filling was butter. Thick but light. The crust was dry and too thick but I could smother myself with the filling. PEANUT BUTTER HONEY RICE KRISPY - Very large, cereal was too compressed and dense. The pb flavor was fresh and natural but I did not taste honey. The marshmallow fluff on top was unnecessary but the few blobs inside the krispy was a nice textural difference. Both were $6 each. I can see why they can't sustain their business. Maybe because they're closing the bakery, they didn't want to bake excessively. But the middle tables have cute but overpriced novelties. There was a big table of just old fashioned Helms truck tins, filled with cookies for a mere $50. The prepackaged food might be good but was expensive. $12 for a small egg salad sandwich. The cured ham sandwich I noticed had deli meat ham. It's also inconvenient to wait in a separate line for coffee. That's where you can get soft serve btw. Sad to see Helms Bakery close. The parking lot with the painted mural and trick of the eye shading is so nostalgic. I will come back to finally try Pasta Sisters which is also in Helm's District. Best of luck to the owner and hope to see the bakery back in another form, maybe a food truck?
