I picked up some coffee cake on Sunday at the Mar Vista Farmers Market and it was so delicious. The cake is moist and buttery and the crunch topping is full of brown sugar. This cake tastes so old-fashioned, just like my grandma used to make. I also got some of the crispy chocolate chip cookies and while I don't usually go for crispy cookies, these were outstanding. Tried one of the Valrhona Fudge Brownies and Chocolate Chip Cookies. Both were phenomenal. The cookies are especially good; chewy and crispy. The best combination. What started was me wanting to try his organic sourdough bread.. That evolved into me having my friends who tasted it asking me to order it for them! Then I tried and became addicted to his thin crispy chocolate chip cookies. They are the best ever. I've been gone for a while and checking in today I discovered he now bakes custom cakes and makes those little custard tarts I used to think were Chinese because something similar came around in dim sum restaurants. But no, they turn out to be Latin and it's a good thing they're sold by the dozen. Everything is delectable, but the coffee cake, blondies and short bread thumbprint cookies are the absolute best! Coffee cake is utter perfection with so much cinnamon crumble and ultra moist. I found this baker by accident! Best accident ever! Anyway, my first order was for sourdough bread. I'd ordered from other home bakers during COVID, and while they were good, I just didn't taste the "sour". I was ecstatic to have 4th Street Baker's sourdough!! Not only was it just the right amount of sour, but his bread (batard loaf) is airy!!! I love that! So my next orders I tried some different things--chocolate chip cookies (and more bread), and once again, he makes cookies the way I like them! Thin and crispy, like Tate's, but taste 100% better! I have also ordered the oatmeal raisin cookies--again, thin and crispy, and soooo good! Seriously. I even bought cookies and bread to take home to my fam because I knew they'd like them! My mom, especially, loves his thin, crispy oatmeal raisin cookies. She and my dad didn't really leave much left over. Lol. But it's all good. I have yet to try everything, and he's been adding one or two new items lately. I have had his carrot cake cupcakes, and they are delicious and moist! Oh, and brownies!!! If you love brownies, Julian's are a MUST BUY! He had an extra that he gave me with one of my orders! OMG! It's the best brownie I've ever had. Shared with my sister, and she thought the same. It's very very rich and chocolate-y and melts in your mouth like a truffle!!
