I was excited to try Levain for a while and finally made it in. I ordered three cookies to try, two from the classic menu and one of their current specials. The craving hit later that evening, so I was excited to see they were open until 10 p.m. I came in around 8, maybe a little after, and was surprised to see all the chairs already up. There wasn't a greeting when I walked in, and the display case was mostly empty, so I had to walk up to the counter and ask if they still had cookies available. I took my order to go and didn't check the bag before leaving. Unfortunately, my carrot cake cookie ended up being the lemon cookie. I was a little bummed since I was looking forward to trying the carrot cake, but the lemon cookie was still good. Overall, the cookies are good, but they don't really taste like cookies to me. The texture is more like a scone. In fact, I had mine the next day with coffee and actually enjoyed it more than I did fresh on the day I bought it. Not my favorite cookie in the area, but not bad either. Definitely worth trying and deciding for yourself. read more

Got lucky and snatched a parking spot near the bakery. It took almost an hour to drive here but I hadn't had a Levain cookie in 2 years so I thought what the heck. Shop was busy with lots of people for a weekday morning. It was clean and inviting. I got a few cookies: chocolate chip walnut (yum), carrot cake, oatmeal raisin, and a scone. Levain just brings about instant joy. I took my family here when they were visiting from out of town and they loved it. As a home baker, I was excited to be in the area of a Levain. I had never been to any location before, so I couldn't wait to finally try it. We added about a half an hour on to our drive for it, so we were going to make it worth it with the haul. We ordered a wide assortment of items to try something from as many categories as possible. Whole wheat raisin bun- This was a little too hard, but was chewy, with a decent amount of raisins. Good for the price. Chocolate chip banana bread- Lacking banana flavor and a ton of moisture. Ironically, more bananas could easily fix both issues. Not the best, but once I took it home to heat up it wasn't the worst. Brioche with cinnamon butter- This looked pretty with the sugar on top, but it lacked cinnamon butter inside and almost any flavor. It wasn't even a plush dough like I would expect brioche to be. We even made a second purchase to get this one, so this was a very sad let down. Coffee toffee cookie- This was the best item out of all of them by a long shot. I am a huge fan of black cocoa and toffee, which I believe these both had. Not sure about where the coffee part was, but it still worked great. Finally got the chance to checkout Levain Bakery, I've heard about them for years, but I don't go to the east coast often. Glad that there's an LA location now and I hope it's here to stay. Cute little shop, open late, and even has some seating along the windows. Took a Lyft here after a night of drinking and boy did two thick warm cookies sound like a great idea. I greatly underestimated their size. I bought two -- their chocolate chip walnut and their two chip chocolate chip. The latter is in my carryon on my flight home to the Bay. The cookies are massive. What it lacks in structural integrity, it makes up for in texture and flavor. At over $5 a piece, it's more "worth-it" than Crumbl to me. Happy that they're able to quickly warm up the cookies on-site. Super gooey chocolate, fatty walnuts, definitely more on the filling to dough ratio. 4/5 wouldn't go out of my way for them again, but I'll gladly buy a few if I happen to be in the area. I've tried Levain Bakery in New York and was pleased to find there are several in CA now and one on Abbot Kinney not too far from us. Unlike the one in NYC, this one had no line and was empty inside. The store itself was clean, pretty and well kept. However, when we walked in around 1:00 on a Sunday, I was disappointed to find they were all out of most of their cookies, especially their popular flavors like the chocolate chip walnut. They said they need to bake more batches and it would take another 20 minutes which we didn't have at the moment. We ended up getting the dark chocolate peppermint which is their holiday offering. The cookie tasted fine, the chocolate flavor was rich, the peppermint bits added a nice crunch but the cookie itself was thick and on the dry side. I think overall Levain is a bit overhyped. The flavor is fine but I'm not a big fan of the thick texture of the cookies. It was okay but I wouldn't wait in line for these. I am new to Levain Bakery, but I've heard about them for so long that I feel like I've been eating it for years. It was started in 1995 in NYC and I know that this is their second West Coast location. The Larchmont one opened in 2023, but I procrastinated in trying it. I live very close to this location so I stopped in this weekend and honestly really enjoyed it. I will admit I am not a huge fan of the cookies because I like a gooey soft cookie and these are more dense and less chewy but I also tried some of their sandwiches and thought they were fantastic. For this visit I chose the Tomato & Burrata as well as the Honey and Jam. Inside is pretty small and doesn't have seating so the only option is to go. The server helping us was very polite and made my sandwich on the spot right after I ordered. They don't have a dedicated parking lot, however, street parking is not that hard to find or you can park in the alley in between this building and Erewhon. I wish I could give this place 0 stars. After paying nearly $30 for just four cookies, I expected much better quality and attention to detail. Unfortunately, my double chocolate chip cookie had a hair baked into it (see photo), which is completely unacceptable. I've never met a Levain Bakery I didn't like! Those cookies. Those cinnamon rolls. They never disappoint and are consistently delicious. I can't skip the chocolate chip cookie anytime I step into the bakery, so you best believe that will always be in my bag walking out. The great thing here is they always offer to warm it up for you! The walnuts added a fantastic texture and flavor, and I could have used a cold glass of milk with it. I was recommended the Rocky Road since it was the last day they were offering it. While I love marshmallows, it was a bit too sweet for my taste, I wouldn't order it again without a large amount of milk. Rox S. provided excellent recommendations, which were very helpful since it was my first visit. I won a hat and was also gifted a free cookie. MY GOODNESS, it was absolutely delicious! This is not the kind of cookie you should eat when you're trying to lose weight! Lol. But each bite was ooey gooey and the texture was so soft! Ahhhh, I need another one! The workers at the booth were super friendly and clearly passionate about Levain. I loved Levain when I went to NY so I was so excited to see that they had a location in SoCal. However, the experience I had here really disappointed me. Chocolate Chip Walnut - At first, I thought that the cookie was cold because of the ice cream, but it was even lukewarm through to the top. It was not as delicious and goey as I had it in NY. It's great that Levain now has a spot in West LA! It's about the same size as their Larchmont location, and their offerings are the same in quantity and quality, though this West LA location closes a tad earlier at 10PM (I tend to come to Levain at night for a late night treat). The location is so great too right on Abbot Kinney Blvd. My favorite here is the classic chocolate chip walnut cookie, but some of my new emerging favorites are their banana chocolate chip loaf cake and chocolate chip brioche because they are so soft and delicious. This location has some seating for you to enjoy your treats, and the service here has always been very kind and exceptional. The merch at this store looks very fun too. I'm not sure how they stack them up to be so tall, but they have the perfect gooey center, especially when warmed up. There are two LA Levains and this one is at the end of Abbott Kinney in Venice (very close to the Erewhon). Parking in the area actually isn't too terrible if you go into the neighborhoods. They have all of their signature flavors as well as seasonal specials (currently a Lemon Chip). The chocolate chip is my favorite, but I also love the double chocolate with peanut butter chips. TBH, they are all perfection, except the GF/Vegan one. You have to eat that one fresh because it dries out quick and does not taste good if you leave it out too long. This shop opened on the corner of Venice Blvd, where the Lemonade restaurant used to be. Went to first Friday, when all the food trucks come into town and the cookie line was out the door about 35 ppl deep. Waited til nearly 10pm when ya close, and easy peeezy! What a great location and indoor experience. Levian, a New York bakery that is quickly expanding, has three locations in the LA general area (Venice, Beverly Hills and Larchmont I believe). They specialize in cookies, and if you get yours to go, you'll get a card from them with warming instructions. Large cookies, about $6 each (normal these days) and a sour cream coffee cake (I know, sour cream? Well, all the cinnamon in it make is delicious). I suggest going with at least one other person, each of you getting something different and sharing, family style. Cookies are dense so take small bites, very flavorful and very good flavors. Street parking available, and, if you're lucky, you'll only be a few feet away. Also, if you are lucky and live close, you can go back often to try all of their selections. I came here with my mom to check out their in-person location. We had received a box of cookies as a gift from one of her coworkers and I was obsessed with these cookies. Originally, Levain Bakery was a New York establishment but I'm so glad they expanded over to the west coast and out of all places, they decided to open a location in Venice, California! You can't miss it. Its location is right on the corner of Abbot Kinney on Venice Boulevard. If you've been in the area for a few years, it's the old Lemonade spot. The blue awning and the vintage bike in front of the shop gives the location a New York feel--except there are palm trees all around you. The cookies are incredible! They are huge and baked fresh to order. My favorite is The Walnut Chocolate Chip and the Dark Chocolate Chip. They are so good, I stopped making cookies at home and resorting to Levain's Bakery for my cookie fix. The service is great! The staff are extremely friendly and helpful with taking orders and describing what each of the pastries and cookies tastes like.
