Magic coffee, croissant, and chocolate cream cookie
Edgar H.

Bread + Butter offers a wide selection of pastries and a well developed coffee program. Which is needed to stand out in their part of the neighborhood. I got to enjoy their wide selection and have become a fan. Lets break down their pastries, there is something for everyone from sweet like the chocolate cream cookie to their salted pastry options. Oh and don't forget their croissants' , can't go wrong. As for the coffee, check out their menu and there is not a single bad option. They do a pretty good job of keeping the right options. My personal favorite: the magic So verdict: come try it out! Plenty of seating in front and on the side. Parking is available in the back of the motel or on the main street.

Great pastries, a proper flat white, excellent service! This newer Aussie influenced pastry shop has become the new darling on the Westside. I've enjoyed a lot of their laminated pastries and they've mostly exceeded expectations. My current favorite is a morning bun with nduja butter that's brushed with Zabs hot honey and finishing salt. What a savory delight! Space is small, but the staff does their best to converse and connected but get you on your way so the line moves quickly. There's plenty of patio seating for you to enjoy your drinks and eats and being your furry friend s.

There are a lot of pastry options here. They all look incredible too! I got a blueberry danish which was really good. The exterior was flakey and buttery. I will say everything is super expensive. Over $7 for most items.

Stumbled upon this spot walking down Main. Stopped in for a quick coffee and was not disappointed. Busy operation in a small space but staff is very friendly managing the crowd. Pastries looked but did not try them will have to come back!! Pro Tip: located adjacent to old school motel. Enjoy your coffee outside and check out a place standing still in time

Delicious bakery and great cappuccino, what more do you need? Cute outdoor seating available too. The Caramelized croissant had the perfect amount of salt to balance out the sweet and buttery flaky layers of goodness. The potato and cheese savory Danish was delightful, the fresh rosemary was a nice touch. Definitely a nice replacement for gget and I can't wait to explore more of their offerings!

Came back a month or two after they opened and was so pleased to see how popular the business has gotten already. They also had a bunch of new pastries on offer since I first came. I got the morning bun today and it was deliciously buttery, sweet and flaky. The owner is usually working and she's lovely. Ambiance is casual, with a bunch of tables and chairs outside. It was busy on a Wednesday morning around 7:30 am with people getting morning pastries and coffees.

Walnut Croissant

Being quite a new comer especially occupying a space at the heart of Santa Monica's Main Street, you surely have expected its popularity still resides at its peak. Fortunately I was thinking 2 steps ahead, placing my pre-order online early morning around the opening time to secure my Walnut Croissant. Yes, you heard it right, walnut. Prolly kinda uncommon, but it's indeed one of their signature pastries, which was the closest comparison to any other places' almond croissant. Located right by the street, sitting at the patio gave that people-watching experience with sun kiss. I arrived right at noon, which was also my pickup time, and their pastries showcase was almost empty and there's literally no single croissant left. LOL, even the servers told me I made smart move by pre-ordering. I finished my gigantic croissant on the spot. It wasn't reheated yet it's still so good. The price was prolly quite high being close to $10, but the size and how packed the walnut paste stuffing was, made it totally worthy. That crunchy layer on top was doubtlessly slapping, like literally fully covered with walnut! Super happy to find more and more awesome pastries in town!

Cultured butter croissant, sweet strawberry danish, and walnut croissant

So thrilled that Bread + Butter took over the old Go Get Em Tiger space--what a glow-up! The vibe is fresh and inviting, and the pastry case is full of absolute gems. The morning bun is a standout: beautifully layered, perfectly crisp on the edges, and bursting with cinnamon and cardamom--an instant favorite. The sweet strawberry danish is equally fantastic--bright, buttery, and just the right amount of indulgent. The cultured butter croissant, walnut croissant, and pain au chocolat were all solid--flaky, rich, and clearly made with care. As for the breakfast bun... that's a hard pass. It's about 98% bread and only 2% filling (egg, ham, and cheese), which left it feeling a bit underwhelming. That said, the hits far outweigh the misses, and the quality and creativity coming out of this place are seriously exciting. Bread + Butter is a welcome--and delicious--addition to the neighborhood. Can't wait to come back and try more!

OMG! Santa Monica is a trek for me and b+B was on my list to try. I was anticipating it so much that I couldn't sleep. It did not disappoint. I love croissants and their cultured butter croissant is one of the best I've ever had! It is big and crispy and flaky and light and so buttery. I felt like there was a big chunk of melted butter in the middle... it was so amazing. I also had to get the walnut croissant which is similar to an almond croissant but with a walnut filling. It is slight sweet and heavily filled. The barista gave me the pastry and I was surprised by the heft! It is a heavy croissant and absolutely delicious! Two of the most amazing croissants I've ever had and I have FOMO for all the other pastries that I did not get the opportunity to try. I am definitely coming back. The coffee was nice and darkly roasted and was delicious, but the pastries totally eclipsed the coffee experience and that is ok. Street parking. Casual. Great service. Please come and create your own experience.

Was able to arrive only minutes before closing. Staff was very kind and accommodating for a last minute order. The cold brew is strong and croissant is amazing. The croissant is flakey, buttery and the layered baked ends are the best part. There is two small courtyard to sit in with tables and both relatively shaded.

Bread & Butter is a cool little spot with rustic vibes and seriously fresh food. The bread is warm, the pastries are delicious, and everything feels thoughtfully made. The host was welcoming and genuine. The surfer dude in line said it best: 'I was gonna get Chick-fil-A or something, but this is way better.' That pretty much sums it up.

The stand out ones that were the best I've ever had were the plain croissant and the chocolate croissant. They were AMAZING!!! The cinnamon roll has the texture of a crossiant and it was still really good but I don't know. Something was missing for me. Maybe it needed more icing? The banana bread was so soft and moist. Delicious! The chocolate chip cookie is huge and it was okay. I personally wouldn't get it again. The ice lattes had good flavor but even with asking for half sweetened it was still way too sweet. Staff was all so friendly considering how crazy busy it was! I'd definitely be back! Metered street parking

We were delighted with the box of cookies and tarts that they brought from Paderia in Santa Monica. The chocolate chip walnut cookies were fat and soft with a slightly crisp exterior. The thickness of them allowed a plethora of rich chips to reside inside. I'm not a fan of chunks of nuts in cookies but these were chopped in tiny pieces, so did not take away from the overall soft texture. The soft peanut butter chocolate cookie was also a huge fattie with peanut butter chips within the chocolate cookie. Both were enhanced with a quick warm-up. I loved both of these cookies and think the chocolate chip is the very best you'll ever find. We also had Portuguese egg tarts. The pastel de nata (if I recall, this is what they are called) I ate was small but good, but I have had others that were more to my liking, with a sweeter custard and a more caramelized top, which I guess is a personal preference. Not to say it wasn't delicious - it was! I love the cookies so much I'll be checking out their Irvine location soon, which is much closer to me.

HALF BAGEL W/ SCHMEAR (UNTOASTED) Half sesame bagel, untoasted with jalapeño cream cheese. Wanted to try it untoasted. Wrong choice! However, the bagel is definitely packed with loads of sesame seeds. Bagel overall is okay. It did have a bit of a chew, but a bit too breadsy. They gave me a thicker slice of the bagel, which was nice, but untoasted, it was not good. The jalapeño cream cheese was packed with jalapeños! Spicy too! I think it would have been good if bagel was toasted and had other toppings. MATCHA STRAWBERRY COOKIE It was in their display case and I love matcha, so decided to get one. Don't think this is on their regular menu. It's a matcha cookie with strawberry flavored chocolate inside. Chewy and soft cookie. Outside is covered in white sesame seeds. The chocolate reminded me of Valrhona chocolate, really good quality chocolate! Matcha flavor was solid and had a great presence. SAVORY PAIN SUISSE Forgot the exact name, but it is a pain suisse with savory ingredients. It had thinly sliced meat and cornichons and baked with parmesan cheese crust. Ate it the next day after toasting it in toaster oven. It had a lovely crispy crunchy texture. The fillings were salty and savory. A bit odd to have slices of cornichon and thinly sliced meat, which reminded me of roast beef. I think there was a bit of mustard in it too. SESAME BAGEL, EVERYTHING BAGEL, PUMPERNICKEL BAGEL Got these as loose bagels to eat at home. Sesame and Everything bagel were both coated generously and evenly. As an untoasted bagel, I did not think it was great. Pumpernickel was the best of the three when eaten untoasted. Toasted was better, but I wasn't complete impressed. They did their best to slice it evenly, which I appreciated, but it was all on the drier side. I ate it simply with regular whipped cream cheese and I think these bagels needed more toppings. CUSTOMER SERVICE Really great customer service! Service was calm, yet friendly. The lines were slowly starting to form, but staff was not rushing anyone. Would love to return to try their breads and lunch menu!

My first time- with the high, beam-exposed ceiling and layout, has Joan's on Third vibes. No seating inside but plenty outdoors, although the closer to the entrance, you need to talk loudly above the music. I went late (to meet a friend) at 1pm. Few choices in the pastry section though it looked like they would replenish, which they barely did an hour later. Here's what I got: FRENCH SILK PIE - OMG, the chocolate mousse like filling was butter. Thick but light. The crust was dry and too thick but I could smother myself with the filling. PEANUT BUTTER HONEY RICE KRISPY - Very large, cereal was too compressed and dense. The pb flavor was fresh and natural but I did not taste honey. The marshmallow fluff on top was unnecessary but the few blobs inside the krispy was a nice textural difference. Both were $6 each. I can see why they can't sustain their business. Maybe because they're closing the bakery, they didn't want to bake excessively. But the middle tables have cute but overpriced novelties. There was a big table of just old fashioned Helms truck tins, filled with cookies for a mere $50. The prepackaged food might be good but was expensive. $12 for a small egg salad sandwich. The cured ham sandwich I noticed had deli meat ham. It's also inconvenient to wait in a separate line for coffee. That's where you can get soft serve btw. Sad to see Helms Bakery close. The parking lot with the painted mural and trick of the eye shading is so nostalgic. I will come back to finally try Pasta Sisters which is also in Helm's District.
