I must applaud the effort but Lard Have Mercy is still a work in progress. The Porky's Revenge (chicken fried bacon!!!) was pretty inedible, even though it was deep fried bacon. Three Little Pigs (fried mac 'n cheese balls!!) tasted more like meatballs than mac 'n cheese. The Oh My Oreo's! were pretty good but, c'mon, it's hard to mess up a deep fried Oreo. This place is crazy good, you just have to try it for yourself, don't just take my word for it. So I got the Foghorn Leghorns (i.e. bacon wrapped chicken strips) and they were fried to perfection; also, the jalapeno ranch that comes with them is delish. The flavor was really great, although I tasted more flavor from the bacon than the chicken, I'm not complaining. I also had the Three Little Pigs, which are the deep fried mac 'n' cheese balls. These puppies are anything but little! They're huge and the tomato sauce that comes on them is surprisingly good. I say "surprisingly" because when I think deep fried mac 'n' cheese, I think of the Fried Holy Mac from Pluckers, and I eat those with the ranch or chutney, not tomato sauce, but this guy at the food trailer pulls it off nicely. This place is pretty good! I visted this trailer about a month ago with my husband and we had to try the Juicy Lucy!! I've seen this burger on TV, but wasn't expecting it to be this damn good!! Wow!! My husband couldn't even finish it all, but I could!! Ass load of meat with cheese inside of it and fully loaded, Good Times!!! Not to mention, the french fries are cut fresh to order!! Lard Have Mercy is one of the best food trucks in Austin, hands down. In my opinion; best app is the Foghorn Leghorns (bacon wrapped chicken skewers with jalapeno ranch), best entrées are the Juicy Lucy (burger with bacon flavored fries...come hungry) and the Three Little Pigs (mac'n cheese with bacon, rolled up and panko fried with a bed of marinara and a topping of parsley and parmesan cheese), and the best dessert is the Oh My Oreo (fried oreos with chocolate drizzle) just BARELY beating out the Hollaback Girl (deep fried banana with strawberry drizzle and powdered sugar topping). Let me begin by saying that the owner Chris is superb. Fun to talk to, he clearly cares about the entire experience and yes, he has the Jedi-savvy to fry you some stuff up real nice. Of what I've tried I have to rate the fried pickles as 'tasty' and the chicken tenders as 'just okay'. They latter could've been juicer, however they do come in a scary-generous portion size. I went with a group of friends and we all ordered each one of their menu items (except for the Jucy Lucy burger) and shared them (a great way to visit this place with 5 or 6 friends). The Foghornleghorns were a let down because we were thinking they were battered chicken strips wrapped in bacon (which sounds amazing, right?), but really were just pieces of plain chicken wrapped in bacon, similar to something you'd see served on a party tray as an Hors d'oeuvre. Good, but not the awesomeness we were expecting. The fried pickles were good too, but nothing out of this world. Same goes for the fried mac and cheese; good, but not mind blowing. Pretty standard for fried fare all around. Now, for the mind blowing stuff. The fried Twinkies and fried Oreo cookies are the reason to go to this place right now. The batter on these two items was light and fluffy, and the sweetness wasn't overpowering, both had an amazing texture and taste. I highly recommend these menu items if you're craving a sweet treat. The burger was such a steal- it was huge and nicely seasoned. The fries were good, but I wish they were a little crunchier( it could have been soggy because we took it home). The bacon wrapped chicken was good but a bit dry. The Mac and cheese was good and the sauce added a nice element to it, plus it was a little too dry. I was super duper excited to try this place after reading all of the reviews. The man working at the counter was absolutely wonderful and the customer service is absolutely 5 stars. That being said, the food I ordered was sadly not as good as I'd expected. I ordered the chicken strips with bacon gravy & fries, and everything was just a bit soggy. Other reviewers cautioned against going too early because the oil isn't hot enough or something, so maybe that's where I went wrong, but my food was dripping in oil (to be expected) without any crisp to it. But if you are in the mood for some deep-fried food for your soul - then you have come to the right place. The chicken-fried bacon (yeah, you read that right) is incredible. A lot of places are now doing this, but no one does it better than Chris. Chicken strips are another thing that might not sound particularly sexy, but when crusted with bacon salt and dipped in bacon gravy, they are taken to a different level. The burger was good (according to my boyfriend) but the service was pretty bad. I ordered a pizza from the trailer next door and ate it and a frozen banana while he was waiting on his burger. After about 20 minutes he went over to check on it since they didn't seem busy, no food was coming out and no one was ordering. They assured him it would be out in a second. A few minutes later we heard the grill sizzle and I guess they finally threw the burger on. He went over to check again after another 10 minutes and the burger was ready but not the fries and they apologized and said they got slammed which didn't seem to be the case at all. Went to this South Austin trailer based on a recommendation from a friend. The name alone screams creativity. With a name like that they better have the goods to back it. Man oh man...does this guy know how to make a burger! The Juicy Lucy is probably the best burger in town. As he is cooking the burger, the smell fills the food court and makes your mouth water. We were given several options to choose from, so we decided on fried chicken, smothered in gravy, pork tenderloin, and fried catfish. Just the basics, or so we thought. I and my very country family pride ourselves on being connoisseurs of all things comfort food. We have been known to drive for hours, just to find some good fried catfish. This was something else all together. Every person I spoke with could not stop raving about how amazing the food was. My Grandma wanted the recipe. For everything. In addition to the amazing main courses, we were also treated to some delicious green beans, red potatoes, and corn casserole. Everything was perfect. These guys are awesome.
