Needed a suit fully altered for a wedding. Paid $100+ for the suit. They sized it, pinned it, and charged me $270 up front for the alterations (which in itself seemed a bit excessive, but I was desperate). The whole time I was there, they had Fox News blaring EXTREMELY polarizing rhetoric in the background. (Don't blast politics in your place of business, no matter what side you're on). This was on a Monday. I told them I needed it back the following Monday (7 days). After 10 days I went in to pick up my suit. I asked where it was, and he walked over where he had hung it 10 days earlier, still not even touched. Still had the pins. I told him I needed it in 7 days. It was day 10 and the wedding was the next day (tomorrow). No apologies, no explanation. He said he could do it that night and have it ready the next day. That was too late so I requested a full refund. No other words were spoken between us. And AGAIN, Fox News blaring in the background. I will NEVER go back, I will NEVER recommend them, and if you don't like polarizing politics being forced down your throat at a business, don't ever go here. read more

I had a bridesmaid dress and my own wedding dress done by Poncho. Listen, both came out great! He does amazing work, especially since my wedding dress was very complicated to alter. He had to hand stitch a lot of lace, hem three layers, add in a bustle, etc. It came out great, and so did my hem on the bridesmaid dress. However, if you want something altered here, give him lots and lots of time. Fortunately, and unfortunately, he's doing really well and getting lots of business (again, because his work is excellent)! It takes a very, very long time to get anything altered here. I went in 7 times to pick up my dresses, and they 'weren't ready'. Guys, my wedding dress was picked up 4 days before I got married. I try to write mainly positive reviews, but I wanted others to know about our recent experience with this tailor. My husband brought in 2 pairs of pants. We had to go back three different times, in part because the tailor had questions but didn't bother to call us in advance. We had to show up and then he asked the questions, then asked us to come back in another week. We went back and the pants still weren't ready, so we had to return the next day. We just picked up the pants. One pair is hemmed well enough. The other pair (a pair of jeans) is awful. One leg is nearly an inch longer than the other and both flair out at the bottom rather than taper the way the jeans were intended to look. We will not be returning to this tailor and we are out the money we spent for the jeans and for the tailoring. read more

If you have clothing you really care for and want fitted correctly come to Lara's tailor. I can't recommend Pancho's work enough. I've had conversations with him about his experience and he's told me he's been at it for 30 years and he's a master tailor. Seeing that I had him tailor things from a jean shirt, to a dress shirt, to various leather belts, all types of pants from jeans to wool pants, and now an expensive suit I bought from Nordstroms, I trust he's telling the truth. He's able to do what you envision and he's able to give suggestions that are always a step forward to what you're thinking. I've had numerous tailors who tell me what I'm doing is a bad idea because I like a more modern slim fit and they like more of a classic fit, but with Pancho it's never a problem. The only bad thing I've seen other reviews point out is the fact his place his messy. I look at it as a master crafter working hard. I mean he's literally the only person running the shop. Also I talked to him about it and he's trying to renovate the place to be more hip to accommodate all the yelpers coming in (he's happy yelp is getting his name out). I took in 2 souvenir sweat shirts that I wanted to have the sleeves shortened. He set the delivery date for Saturday, 10 days out. - Saturday AM - Not even started. "Come back later today." - Saturday PM - Not even started. "Come back." - Closed Sunday and Monday - Tuesday PM - Not even started. "Give me my sweatshirts and a refund," I have taken my sweatshirts to someone who promised delivery on Friday. There are other alteration services. You might want to go there. read more

I have been taking my alterations here for about 2 years now. I usually take 5 or 6 items at a time and have them all done at once. I've had dresses and skirts darted for a more defined waist; jeans, dress pants, and skirts hemmed (both original hem on jeans and just a basic hem depending on fabric); blazer sleeve hems raised and taken in; and even the sides/armholes of sleeveless tops taken in for better fit or modesty. For most items, I try them on at pickup and there have been only a few times things weren't quite right, but he kindly makes the additional alteration to ensure it's as requested. Usually this cannot be done on the spot/while you wait, so be prepared for that. His shop is clean and basic, and in a nice area. He is a relatively quiet, soft-spoken person, not a chit chatter, but he'll be honest with you about what will work for the garment and how much that will run. He's always been respectful and polite with me. And I'm the picky, analytical type so I'm sure I've tested his patience a few times! His prices are not cheap--but he also is very good at his job. I come here knowing I'll leave with something that looks like it was originally made that way, not butchered and stitched up like a beginner sewing project. Especially as most garments I take to him are designer or high end finds I got inexpensively via consignment, so it makes more sense to spend a bit on alterations to make those items fit me perfectly. The reason for 4 stars is that while he does absolutely professional and very high quality work, the work can take a while and he rarely meets the pick up time quoted at drop-off. At first, this really irked me. It seems to be a hot point with other reviewers too, and I honestly think the missed dates are because he just might be a little disorganized--I think he has so many clients bringing work in that it's probably hard to keep up with the tailoring let alone shop/records organization. But perhaps having known from reviews that he might take a while, and now after the many times I've taken garments here, I just plan ahead that it will take longer than quoted and bring things in much earlier than when I truly need to have them back. I know that if he tells me they'll be done on a Thursday, I will wait until that Friday to call first to see if they're ready, and if they're not (or only half the items are ready), I call again on the next Monday or Tuesday and they're usually done. No biggie. But if you have a last-minute, must-be-done-by-blahblah alteration job, I would be *extremely* clear with him about your deadline beforehand and follow up with a phone call at *least* the day prior to be sure he's on track. :) While I think he could probably benefit from an extra set of hands to help him be more organized and just let him focus on the tailoring, I do highly recommend Lara's Tailor for quality, professional work! read more

I went to one seamstress before him and she declined because she was not confident enough to make the alterations. But Pancho was confident and the results were seamless. Pancho is the best tailor I've ever worked with, up and down the state. Bar none. His work speaks for itself--everything in my wardrobe that he's altered regularly gets compliments. He transforms off-the-rack into looking better than custom-made. (Not to mention that he's so easygoing, and as nice as the day is long.) If you're a guy who favors sharp and slim suits, chances are you've worked with Pancho at his old employer, Morrow's. He's also still the in-house tailor for J. Crew at Arden Fair. Pancho very recently parted ways with Morrow's to open his own shop here on 56th and H, next door to Katia's Collections. His prices continue to be very reasonable and affordable, and you more than get what you pay for, considering the outstanding caliber of his work. Many of his clients from Morrow's (including myself) have recently called there asking for him. We've sadly been misled. The proprietors of Morrow's lied to me and said that he's "on vacation" and told me to "come in anyway," etc. When I pressed them about it, they were both evasive and condescending, snapping "He's just an employee, you don't need to talk to him." Unscrupulous and petty--Pancho was always the one redeeming quality of Morrow's, and they know it. The only way I was able to eventually find him was through calling J. Crew. Don't believe Morrow's BS for a second--Pancho has moved on, and good for him. Come find him here at Lara's Tailor. As a Pancho loyalist, I'm so happy to see him start his new business, which I'm both proud to support and eager to see succeed. Store Appearance: It's not very organized. Pile of clothes in different places. Front chair as you walk into the door has a pile, behind the counter clothes are on hangers and bellow bigger pile. By the mirror there was another chair with pile of clothes. March 30th i was getting measured and turned in my suit. At this time another customer walked in to pick up his pants that should been ready. Pancho searched each pile for 10 min to find them (that should have been first sign of poor organization). Finally found clients pants which still haven't been touched. Pancho tells him they are not ready and he needs another day. Customer was little upset since it has been a week he stated. After I paid for my alterations Pancho said it can be ready by 3rd in afternoon. Then he said it would be better to come in on 4th in the morning in case additional work is needed. Since I was out of town that day I agreed to come on the 5th. I mentioned I need this for the wedding by 7th and Pancho reassured me it will be ready. On the 5th I came in the afternoon to pick up my items and Pancho started the search for them. Checking piles in front, side (this was a suit I brought on a hanger). He finds it in the back, hung up still with all the markings and measurements and hasn't been touched. He tells me its not ready and that he can have it ready by next day. Very poor service, didn't even call to tell me this but waited for me to show up. Didn't care, just said "not ready". I had no option so I came back on the 6th. Work: One of the sleeves was longer then other, (small difference) but one I can see. Pancho tried to convince me it's how the jacket is designed but that wasn't true. He finally realized it was off. Jacket length was off as well from what I asked to be. I am not sure how everyone on here has amazing experience, when I had poor one. And customer before me also didn't have his stuff on time. Maybe he has been there for long time and clients forgive him. I won't be back here again since I can't depend on him completing the work on time (time that he picked) and having it tailored accurately. Sure the length off wasn't huge, but I paid for service and didn't receive what was promised. read more

Last week I brought my grandson in to Lara's for alterations needed on new dress slacks for an upcoming high school homecoming dance. We brought the shoes and belt he'd be wearing with the slacks. Pancho carefully pinned the side seams, continually asking my grandson how the slacks felt/looked, and adjusted/pinned the hem on each leg to the exact length that was perfect. We came in yesterday, again with the shoes and belt he's going to wear with the slacks, to pick them up. I had been a little nervous all week, as I just wanted the slacks to be perfect for my grandson's first school dance. As soon as we walked in, Pancho said hello, took the receipt I'd brought, got Julian's slacks, and said for him to go into the dressing room to try them on. When he walked out of the dressing room, I was sooo happy, as was Julian, to see how great they looked on him!
