First of all, I hardly know much about computers other than emails and eBay. Because of my lack of all things computers, I have to rely on an expert in this complex field. When my home computer stared acting up, I thought that it might correct itself in time as it has self corrected itself on a few occasions. This time, it was some kind of power supply problem which was slowing down the works. I brought it to the Carlsbad Laptops Plus and after a day, they described the problem and proposed a solid state drive that is not as prone to future problems as the regular drive would. I got my computer back the next day and it is really fast now. It might have been an option to buy a new one but I am glad that I was able to keep all my pictures and all the software that I have purchased over the years. I know that these things can be transferred to a new computer but doing this is beyond my understanding so I am very pleased how this transaction turned out. The name Laptops Plus seems like they only work on Laptops but they work on all computers and routers and everything one needs to be connected. I will not even look around as I usually do when the need arises. I could not be any more content with the service they gave me. I think anyone else will have the same results with their computer. I did not even mention the price. It was less than what I expected and was certainly less than what a new computer would cost. They are right off the freeway at Palmar Airport Road which for me, made it very convenient to get to. Laptops Plus is not a big store so I was greeted right away and found the staff very quick and attentive. Hello to all that is willing to test their luck in this repair shop. The owner Far something doesnt speak English well so you will have a hard time understanding him until he starts speaking about money then he makes sure you understand what he is saying. I went in there saying I need my computer cleaned out and he said no problem and he will charge me $98. I said sure no problem. He cleaned it out and it was good until the same problem happened about a month later. He then said I will need a new mother board. I said ok what kind of price am i looking at? He (same guy, the owner) told me ok for a mother board it will be about $1100. Knowing nothing of computers i said sure give me a couple weeks to get the money and I will be back in. Doing some basic internet search and looking into the laptop type I have, I found there were prices ranging from $50-$200. So my question is this, why would he charge me $1100 for a motherboard I can get for a quarter of the price. It was the last time I will EVER go back to that place again. I believe the owner is only wanting money and doesn't care. If you decide you want to try this place please keep one hand on your wallet and good luck. read more

When, an angry family member caused considerable damage to my primary laptop, I thought that it might be a lost cause. However, I had been to Laptops Plus before and thought that, at the very least, they might be able to recover my data. Turns out, they did recover my data and more. They also completely refurbished the laptop. Now, it's got a new case, new screen, new keyboard (i think), a solid state hard drive, and additional RAM (from 8GB to 12GB). It looks and feels like new, and performs better than it ever did. But I could have just bought a new laptop, right? Well, not really. My old laptop has ports that just can't be bought anymore. Try to find a new laptop with a VGA port or an ethernet port (I actually use those ports with old monitors and printers). And most important of all, since Laptops Plus was able to preserve my motherboard, I was able to keep all of my old software - no new registrations required! That literally saved me hundreds or even thousands of dollars. I recommend paying the extra $50 for expedited service, especially if you need the computer for work (which I did). I purchased my macbook pro from Apple back in 2009. The mac has been absolutly flawless until recently. About 5 mins into using the machine it would lock up and screen would display lots of colors. I went to the apple store and they said that the logic board was bad and that it would run me $1100 for replacement. At that price i could get a new MAC! I decided on a second opinion. Laptops plus is a shop that i always see on my way to the Carlsbad Costco but never thought id use em. When i walked in, there was already a customer ahead of me and i was told i would be attended to in a minute. When it was my turn, the tech told me that it was a common issue and that it could be repaired for $170. ($170 compared to $1,100, you do the math... :) ) it did take them about 4 days but wow, WHAT A SAVINGS! read more

I had a 2-year-old laptop with a fan that wouldn't turn off. I paid for an expedite on a Saturday, which involved a full diagnostic and a thermal repaste (thermal paste conducts heat away from the CPU and GPU, which dries up after a couple of years, if you purchase OEM, like I did) to eliminate the fan revving. The computer was also infested with malware, which was causing it to freeze up. Levi (the tech) informed me at 6 PM (closing time) that he would have to stay late to take care of the issue. Long story short, I joined him at 6 PM, and at 10 PM, he was able to get the issue resolved through numerous ninja feats of magic. Levi's dedication to taking care of the problem well after closing is why I'm giving Laptops Plus a 5-star rating. Kudos on hiring people with amazing work ethics! read more

My DESKTOP computer just stopped. Remedies from the web about restarting in safe mode etc. did not work. Called Laptops Plus and made an appointment for a technician to come to my home. Mike came on time, and easily diagnosed the problem: My computer's hard drive had gone bad. Ever prepared, he was carrying spares, so he installed one (SSD, so it is now much faster), and everything else on it: OS, and all my apps. He then used a super duper gizmo that read the bad hard drive and recovered almost all my files; definitely the few I needed and had not yet backed up. At all times he communicated what he was doing in language simple enough for me to understand. In 2 hours I was back in business. Thank you! read more

These guys were fantastic. Brought my almost new laptop in because audio died. He put my order in front because he thought it was fairly simple and he had owned an ASUS like it for years. An ASUS fan, I guess. Levi found that the Windows update erased the driver and he installed the necessary driver and cleaned up the freebie software to clear up some space on the 32GB SSD. Such awesome customer service. I had it in and out in less than two hours, on a Saturday. He told me someone posted a bad review on his site by mistake, supposed to be the shop nearby. He said it was not possible for Yelp! to remove it, so I told him I'd give him a fantastic review. He deserves it!!!! A+++ from me too!!! read more

We took our computer to a popular place to be repaired and they couldn't help us. We then brought it to, Sean, at Laptops Plus. He was able to tell us what was wrong with it, and gave us a lot of great information to help us make a wise decision. We ended up purchasing a new computer and Laptops Plus was able to save our data from our old computer, and place it on an external hard drive! What I really appreciated was how knowledgeable the staff was and affordable too! They were less expensive than other places, and they went beyond the call of duty to help me set up my new computer too! They went above and beyond my expectations. read more

If I could do 0 stars I would. To put it nicely the owner, the guy with the heavy accent, is a jerk.. He cant fix anything and ends up screwing something up and then lies looking for a way to blame me as a customer for his screw up. Once he has screwed up he then sends in a guy from the back. His name was Alfred- Al was amazing he told me he would get the job fixed and correctly. And sure enough Al fixed it. I fully suspect the owner tries to cover his tracks with Al. I highly recommend Laptops Plus in Carlsbad for PC Repairs. I had an old HP Multimedia PC with Windows XP that went dead. Nothing happened when I pushed the On button - no lights and no sound. I took it to Laptops Plus on Paseo Del Norte and Levi installed a new power supply, ran some diagnostics and tuned up my PC. Now it runs like new - it was getting slower each day. The customer service tech examined and gave me an estimate for repair cost and time. Both were reasonable and continued with the service. GREAT VALUE!!! I have an older Dell laptop and needed several keys replaced on the keyboard. I brought it to Sean at Laptops Plus here and said it would be about $20. He took it into the back and not only replaced the missing keys, but tighted my loose hinges, cleaned dust/dirt out of the fan so it ran much cooler, and cleaned the outside of the computer so it looked like new. They recovered everything that I did not have backed up. I need a better backup plan. Despite the bad reviews, I went to this place for data transfer to an external hard drive. I found that they sell great Laptops and upon purchase, they transferred my data for free. The staff was friendly and after talking for a bit I found out they have a new owner and the place had been remodeled. I highly suggest this place for any computer purchases or repair!
