Sorry. They did the work required. Overcharged first. Fixed the billing after returning to confront. My system is now backdoored... 1/2 the speed when I turned it in and all restore points are erased. My issue was purely hardware yet was asked for admin password.... I'm stupid and provided it. They installed a new solid state hard drive (1 TB), new battery, new DVD read write drive, then copied my data from the old failing hard drive to the new one. Took a day. Cost $743. THIS PLACE RIPPED ME OFF!! I brought my laptop in to get a new hard drive and the operating system I provided installed. Instead of using the OS CD I provided, they installed a pirated copy that I had to remove and then reinstall my OS CD. And if that was not bad enough they ran my credit card twice and charged me $200 twice, which unfortunately I did not notice until it was too late to dispute. read more

I've been taking my laptop here since 2014. They've always been really friendly and efficient and don't over charge me like I would expect. I had to replace my hard drive and I was told it would be a pretty penny. I googled the price of the specific drive and found they were charging me the exact same price of the drive including labor! I wish I would have read the reviews first. My screen cracked on my laptop so I took it in on Wednesday and was told it would take 2 to 3 days. It has now been 5 days so I called they haven't even started and are still charging me full price. It's been quite a while since there (Spring 2008), but I have to agree with Caroline B. in that I REALLY felt the service I received and the dollar value were all on the industry low scale. I took my laptop there to have the display replaced with a brand new one and as a result, when closing the display, the sleep feature became inoperable as well as the contrast adjustment. While at the check-out counter I questioned the rep. about the two disabled features and he simply discounted my concern and stated "we will have to look into that issue, you can leave it for another week I'll have a quote for you." The rep. was a 30ish male, dark hair, athletic build, and on the quiet side. Being in the high-tech sales profession my entire professional career, I can tell you Johnny Wombo, your losing some big money by having this putts at the public helm of your livelihood. I purchased a refurbished computer from this store about 60 days ago. I spent about $400 for the computer/software so felt I should be getting a pretty decent computer. I have had to bring it back 3 times because it wasn't working for various reasons. The last time they told me that they needed to replace the hard drive - stopped working again after 3 days. I was dealing with the owner of the store from the beginning - It was clear he was a little shady but against my gut I still made the purchase. The owner out right lied to me on several occasions. On my 4th visit, I left the computer with them and let them know that I would be disputing the charges on my credit card. My guess is that there are a lot of other residents of Carlsbad that have had similar problems with this store. I encourage you to bring back the computer and deal with your credit card company (hopefully you charged on a credit card). I am someone who has never disputed a credit card charge in 25 years. I called the owner after I left the computer there for the last time, offered him the opportunity to do the right thing - you know you sold me a "lemon" computer - just take it back. He said I can see on the computer that you dinged it up that is why it is not working. Another Lie! This probable got my blood boiling the most! There was absolutely no damage to the computer. Again, my guess is that he has used this lie on other customers as well. Carlsbad is a great town to live in with plenty of great businesses - this store is unacceptable!! read more

My OS crashed right in the middle of a critical project. Went to Frye's where I bought it, and their (under warranty) solution was to wipe the drive and start over. They said "we don't do software, just hardware." Wiping was not an option, as I had some specialized legacy printers and the new 64 bit drivers are not available. The tech referred me to these guys. They moved all of my data AND THE APPS TOO over to a clean drive, re-engineered my OS from the native 64 bit to 32 bit, replaced a bunch of cheap *&$% components that came with the original PC, and even came in on a Sunday to complete the hours-long data transfer. They even installed some cool software to make a mirror image (not just a file backup) of my drive moving forward. I am back in biz, just in time to save my bacon with a big client. Much appreciate their attitude- and skills. Absolute pros. read more

I'm a former laptop/desktop technician (spent years working at CompUSA in the tech shop), so I have a pretty good idea what is wrong when my laptop has a problem, and I understand the issue from all sides (customer, tech etc.). My teenage son had a problem with his laptop. Once we realized it probably needed parts ordered (i.e. wasn't something dad could just fix), we took it to Laptops Plus. They were very professional, and patient explaining things to my son. We had been debating whether it was financially worth fixing, or just replacing his computer, but they wound up fixing it for about 60% what I had estimated. We are very happy with the work. I did take one star off because they did not call us. I happened to be getting gas in the same shopping center as their office so I stopped in to inquire and was told "yeah - he diagnosed it. He should have called you already". Same thing happened later - after not hearing back for a few days, my son called, and the computer was waiting for him, done. Still, I give four stars, and will recommend LP to any of my family and friends. Maybe that will get them to go straight to LP instead of asking me to work on their computers. :) read more

I walked in searching for some help getting my macbook pro to work again. The folks here troubleshooted things for me on the spot and told me that a simple battery replacement was all I needed and that the mac mouse I thought I needed was unnecessary so because I had an extra battery on me, they helped me install it, got it working again in 10 minutes! phew what a relief! And when I asked the manager if I needed to purchase anything extra, he said no, I was all set. Incredibly fast efficient service and very kind to do some of the work pro bono. 5 stars! read more

When my computer would not get an Internet connection I was referred to laptops plus in Santee. Since I was in Carlsbad on business, I decided to check to see if there was a location. I was happy to find there was a laptops plus in close proximity to where I was. I dropped it off in the afternoon & was able to pick it up the same day. I thought it was A hardware issue based on the error codes that my computer was giving me. Upon them looking at it they realized that all it needed was a tuneup. I was grateful for their honesty; they could have charged me for a part I didn't even need. Very friendly, very helpful, & the owner stayed late to accommodate my work schedule. I had a used Dell laptop that was worth maybe $250, tops. The battery was not charging and I finally could no longer get any power. A friend of mine who knows computers pretty well (not an expert though) thought it was a good chance all I need was a new power cord (around $25). I did not want to spend a lot of money to fix it, so I was hoping that is all that it was. I took it to Laptops Plus in Carlsbad, on Paseo Del Norte. I told them I thought all I needed was a new power cord. They said "let us test it." After 5 minutes of tinkering, they said I had a major INTERNAL problem (power supply?) and that it would cost a MINIMUM of $95 just to figure out what the problem was. Once they figured it out, it could cost another $50 - $100, for a possible grand total of $150 - $200. As mentioned, I did not want to spend that kind of money for a used computer. So I took it to another place. They did a quick look and said ...ALL I NEEDED WAS A NEW POWER CORD .... for $22 bucks!! ..... just what I was told by my friend. I went back to Laptop Plus and told them they were wrong on their assessment, and that I had originally told them I thought all I needed was a power cord, and that they wanted to charge me $95 plus for some other crap. The manager did not apologize, but instead looked at me with distain, almost like "what the F#&K do I care!" AVOID THIS PLACE!!! read more

Busted the power port on LapTop. Took it in for repair on Monday. Brought it home repaired, the next day. And I was given a discount for having been referred by another company. I expected a higher price and to have to waited for many days. Manufacture's poor design of the power port to power cord connection makes me think this will happen again BUT if it does, Laptops Plus will have my business. read more

The hinge on my laptop broke. The back of the screen and the frame around the front of the screen were cracked. We took it to Laptops Plus and the broken parts were replaced. It is a six-year-old laptop but now in perfect condition again. We were extremely satisfied with their customer service, efficiency, and pricing. Took my iphn6s to get my screen replaced and bought a gorilla glass screen protector because I was so happy to have it fixed but never did I have the issues I do now :( sadly. I let them know my phone was scrolling on its own, calling people, opening applications, etc. started to happen right after having it replaced, I called let them know, took it back and they say they replaced it again. Same issue continued and now they say it's the mother board and I'll need a new one but should just buy a new phone. I find it hard to believe if I had NO issues before, when I took it back they were hesitant to replace my screen protector and to think I bought it from them. The second time around it seems like the put the same one back on because it's lifted and the end. To top it off I can't hear in headset mode it has to be speaker or bluetooth. I hardly use the handset to notice but I did. I was thrilled when I first saw it but now, I wish I had just left my phone screen cracked :( read more

Like another reviewer recommended - ask for Levi! I put a new hard drive in my laptop and was trying to install OS, drivers, and restore a system image I had saved on external HD. All kinds of problems that had me frustrated after a whole day of messing with it. My husband says I know just enough to be dangerous! I say I know enough to be frustrated when I can't seem to get a task accomplished. Brought it in to Levi after calling around. Some places charge you a ridiculous amount just to open the computer up and just generally overcharge. I know that because I know how little is required to fix some basic problems. Levi was so cool (love that he's from Texas like me). They charge $35 to diagnose but if you have then repair, that's rolled in. Way less than many places I called. Levi understood the problem and got right on it. I was mostly afraid of losing my data, but he was able to completely restore from my backup. Updated me to Windows 10 and added all the drivers. Two days and I'm back in business! Love this place. Professional. Knowledgeable. Friendly. Priced right. Good location. You can't go wrong. Tell Levi I sent you!! read more

I wish I had read the other reviews here before taking my laptop to this place. This is the first Yelp review I have ever been compelled to write and taken the time to actually do it. This place has some of the worst customer service I've ever encountered! They seemed friendly and nice when I first went in, but in the end just did not deliver the goods. I took my laptop in because my wireless was not functioning. They believed it was not functioning because of a virus vs. a hardware problem, so they said they would run diagnostics and let me know what they found. Well, they NEVER once called me, I had to keep calling them for updates. 5 days later, when they said it was ready and I went to pick it up, it was missing a back access panel and they could not find it, so I had to leave it there until they found it (which they only told me when I called again later that day). Then when I came to pick it up again, they said that they actually had not completed running all the diagnostics on it and that it was still running "really slow". I thought that was strange, as it did not run slow when I dropped it off! I had to take it from them that night because I had month/year-end accounting to complete for my work and needed my laptop for that. They did not charge me but said to just bring it back when in a few days and they would continue to fix it and charge me at that time. But when I booted it up the next day, I kept getting never-before-seen error msgs, and it would freeze up and I could not get anything running. I had to boot up in safe mode and was able to limp thru my year-end tasks. I called them in tears that afternoon and they said, "well, it was working when you picked it up, I'm not sure what could have happened between here and there..." !! Then said to bring it back in and they would take a look again... at this point of course, I did not trust leaving it in their hands again, so thru some friends, I found someone else to take it to. They too tried several things but could not get it to run as it kept freezing up. They ended up having to re-write my hard-drive and re-load EVERTHING from scratch!! I almost wish I never brought it to them and just lived w/o my wireless! I thought after that last phone call that they would have at least tried calling me back to see if everything was ok, or if I was bringing it back in, just some kind of follow up! But I have NEVER heard from them again. I am a branch manager with about 34 independent contractors who work for me. The day I dropped it off, they seemed eager to please so that I might refer them to my agents. Instead I have now made sure my agents all know about my experience so that they will not make the same mistake of trusting their laptops to these people. Crazy to me that people can keep their doors open and run a business his way! read more

My computer was running very slow. Laptops Plus found that they needed to do a Virus clean up; which they did for the cost of $99.00. I had to take the computer back because I could not place some of the passwords into the system after the clean up.. I contacted the credit card company that I charged this service to, and explained that I was not satisfied with the results of the work Laptops Plus did. The credit card company found that my claim was unfounded. After 30 days the computer was still working very slowly. I called Laptops Plus again, and was told after discussion that this was now a hardware problem. I was told there would be another charge of $35.00 to diagnose the new problem (this should still be under the warranty of the first virus clean up in my estimation). I stated that I would not do this again, and that my business was no longer needed by this company. I took the computer to another computer consultant. There was no diagnostic charge, and the hard drive was replaced. Additionally, the new consultant found further infection on the computer 30 days later. I would recommend that those of you that want to work with Laptops Plus be very careful of using them for your service. I do not recommend them for their services, and the heaping on of additional charges for taking your computer back to them again within a very short time period... read more

I have used Laptops Plus a couple other times and found that they did a good job with every issue. I just had a crash due to a virus and picked up my computer in two days which was supposedly fixed, took it home and set it up. It didn't work at all. I called them and informed them about my issue. Took it in the next day as they were opening the store and they got to it immediately and fixed it. I will use them again if needed and hopefully, won't need them again, at least for a while. read more

I took my laptop in for repair a few weeks ago and when I picked it up, I noticed that there was a different power adapter than the one I had come in with and that it had an old yellowed label on it with my name. When I asked where it came from, I was told (while not looking at me and busy with something else) that it was mine and that they would print out a new label if I really wanted one--that was all that was said. I had to deduce for myself what was happening. Apparently I had brought my computer in for repair 2 years before and they must have given me a different power adapter when I picked it up at the time (a pretty good guess is that they must have lost mine and couldn't find it). I was not told about it at that time. Now that I brought it in again, they just slyly replaced it without telling me anything--I guess hoping I wouldn't notice. (They must have found it over the two years since I had been in.) Also, when I turned my computer on (after the current repair) I saw messages that I had never seen before about the battery having some failure issues. So I'm guessing that they may have replaced that also. There were a couple of other minor incidents that caused me to question their capability but I won't go into detail. Mostly I question their honesty with me by not clearly discussing the situation in the first place. They just assumed I wouldn't notice and were somewhat flippant when I questioned the facts. It's hard for me to trust a company that can't just be up front and honest with me and can't explain to me in the first place what was going on before I had to ask. I may or may not have disagreed with them, but they didn't even try to explain first or give me that opportunity. read more

I brought my computer in because it wasn't holding a charge. They said it was because the outlet the charger went into was loose and they charged me $150 to fix it. I left it with them to get fixed, picked it up, brought it home, and it still wasn't charging. I went back over there and inquired as to why it still wasn't working and they told me that it must be because I have a faulty charger because my charger wasn't name brand. This left me wondering if I had ever needed the part they fixed replaced in the first place, or if I had just been jipped a large sum of money. The guys that work there seem nice I'm just not sure if they pay that much attention to detail. read more
