I LOVED how crispy the fried chicken was! I haven't had fried chicken that good in a long time. Years, even. It wasn't dry on the inside at all. I also appreciated the uruchimai rice instead of long grain. I'm Japanese and long grain rice with hot crispy chicken doesn't work for me lol. I also adored the cucumber salad. It tasted exactly the way my grandma makes it. Such a comforting meal!! I'll order it without the dried chilis next time as I can't handle spice. The crab rangoons were very unique, which I really enjoyed. Again, very crunchy on the outside with a fluffy, slightly citrus tasting filling inside. The service was awesome. Very friendly and, more importantly, the back of house staff seemed to care very much about the quality of the dishes. Someone from the back had asked us if everything tasted good and it felt like he genuinely wanted to make sure everything they were putting out was delicious. I really loved that.

When I brought it to the attention of the tall blonde woman in the kitchen wearing a leopard-print hair covering, she was dismissive and walked away. The wings had only one bite taken from them, yet they were thrown away without offering a replacement or resolution. I also overheard another customer ask this same employee for two forks so they could eat the food they ordered. Her response was, "We don't have any--you'll have to figure it out." The customer then explained that they could use chopsticks, if available. Overall, I was very disappointed by the lack of hospitality and poor customer service. A photo of the employee who handled the situation is attached to this review.

The pork buns were a bit dry and likely needed some kind of sauce but still tasty. The sticky rice was a generous portion but is a bit too spicy for me but I'm sure ppl that enjoy spicy food would like it. The food truck is next to the Vacancy brewing. Their Jet Lag Lager is fabulous. It's worth a visit.

Until this year, I never noticed right across the street was Vacancy Brewing and the SXSE Food Co food truck. I took advantage of an Austin Asian Restaurant Passport that benefited a local charity, while also promoting local Asian restaurants. SXSE Food Co was one of the participating restaurants, and I wanted to take the opportunity to try Laotian food. The food was solid, with the flavorful sweet and savory balance similar to Thai and Vietnamese food. The skewers were solid but the crispy fried rice was my favorite dish. It had amazing texture with the crispiness and chewy nature of the sticky rice. There's also freshness from the herbs. The dish overall reminded me of the savory sticky rice with Chinese sausage we make in Cantonese cuisine, and the nostalgia made me love it that much more.

They do tend to get busy, as one would expect for such a limited window of opportunity, so come armed with patience. Even if it takes a bit to get a table, service is fast as can be. You'll be chowing down in no time once you can secure a seat. If you ask me, the crispy turnip cakes with shiitake are a must. It's so hard to find this made without meat or seafood, and they're doing it right. The braised eggplant is a close second favorite, but it is admittedly a large entree, not dim sum, though that's a good thing because it means you can order it any day, any time. The spicy cucumbers were also excellent, refreshing and crisp, perfect as a palate cleanser or started. Next time, I might skip the veggie dumplings, which were fine, but tasted mostly of cabbage, and little else. Most importantly, come with a crowd so you can order all the things and share around. That's the point of dim sum, after all.

This is definitely one of my favorite places in Austin for Asian food and soup dumplings…read more Definitely need to make a reservation because this place is small and always packed. When you arrive, everybody is so nice you give them your name and they get you seated right away. I ordered a drink called a signature tingling Daisy and it was so good. I definitely could've had so many but I was driving so you gotta pace yourself. We started off with the soup dumplings, which are just phenomenal. It's a must when you go. Also, for appetizers, we got the spicy cucumbers which were divine and a hot and sour soup, which was perfectly balanced and not watery. We also got a beef fried rice and let me tell you that rice is so soft and delicious. You literally dream about it the next day. I also got the pecking duck which is delicious there the skin is nice and crispy and the meat on it taste so good. We also got the Kung pow shrimp with cashews, which was delicious and the pieces of shrimp were gigantic. We also got the green beans which is were delicious. I love ordering green beans when they're cooked just like the ones I posted in the photo. Then for dessert, we got the chocolate mousse which is that little dog cake. I know it's so cute and they made it a little hard to eat because you feel bad in a weird sense. It was delicious now I will say when cutting it and realizing the inside had a raspberry filling, made it a little more crazy cause it looked like blood, but it was still so good. This place is definitely an awesome staple and a must visit when you're in town or just always go and have food there whether it's date night or friends catching up or anything in general even on your own.

The greeter wasn't very friendly and borderline surly when I asked for more details about how to not book the bar in the future. Didn't get any explanation but fortunately, we won't have to worry about that... The food was just awful. We ordered 3-4 types of dimsum (onion pancake, soup dumplings, chu shou, fried shu mae) and three entries (orange beef, eggplant and their take on ma pao tofu) for the best tasting experience. The curry sauce for the onion pancake was probably the most flavorful dish of the night sadly. The onion pancake was way way over fried-- hard as a rock. If that's their take on onion pancake... well, it's just wrong. The soup dumplings were passable but a bit doughie and the filling was full of a lot of noticeable coagulated fat -- not clear and broth-y, with light surface droplets of oil as all delicious broths. My wife enjoyed the chu shou -- I found the filling much too overcooked and tough -- difficult to eat with chop sticks. Like a tough, overcooked meatball. The fried shu Mae were just plain inedible. My wife and I each ate one and left the rest. The included sauce was basic and too heavy. And again, over fried. There was a huge delay between our apps and our mains, like 40 minutes or so. Various bar staff apologized. It wasn't a big deal, we were in a good conversation and they were super busy but our mains were not at all worth waiting for. Small portions. WAY over sauced. WAY too salty. WAY too sweet. No distinct flavors at all. The ma pao didn't seem to have any Szechuan pepper at all. How do you miss that ? The plating of the eggplant dish was really creative but I don't eat with my eyes and it came with no instruction -- my first bite was just flavorless steamed eggplant cube -- second was mixed with one note sauce. One of the better mains IMO but it was still gloopy and pretty gross. Wife did not enjoy it. The orange beef was essentially just six or seven cubes of tough, fatty beef covered in over-the-top bitter orange peel. We each had a cube and left the rest. Honestly, give me Panda Express any day over this abject failure of a restaurant. Austin needs more Chinese but if it's anything like this place, forget it. I'd rather spend a 4h round trip to Houston and go to even a mediocre Chinese restaurant than endure another meal at this place. What a waste of $165. Edit: I wish I was making this up but I literally had to pull over to throw up on the side of the road on the way home. The food did not sit well with me. I have no underlying health conditions, am not on any medicine that would have this as a side effect and only shared one beer with my wife. It was just a very, very, disappointing and gross meal.

My biggest issue isn't the quality of the food--it's the portions. I ordered two vermicelli bowls with grilled pork, and I was honestly shocked by how little pork came with each order. It genuinely felt like they picked out the tiniest pieces of pork they could find, and I ended up with SO many noodles left over because there just wasn't enough meat to balance everything out. I think that's what disappointed me the most. One of the things I love about Vietnamese food is that it's usually such an incredible value. The portions are typically generous, the prices are affordable, and you leave feeling really satisfied. Here, I felt like I was paying quite a bit for a meal that just didn't feel very substantial. Overall, I still think the food itself tastes good, which is why I'd probably order again if I was really craving it. I just really wish they were a little more generous with the portions because I don't think the value quite matches the price. If they increased the amount of grilled pork, I'd probably enjoy this place SO much more!

We were heading to Alamo Drafthouse for an afternoon movie and decided to stop in and try this place. The restaurant is in an old house, which gives it a nice French-colonial feel. Fair warning, though: the inside is super loud. It's an open room with tile floors, so sound just bounces off the walls. Fine if you're with a group and want energy. On a date, you'll be raising your voice just to be heard--and the whole room will hear you too. Now the food. The spring rolls are the highlight. They're more refined than the plain ones you get at most traditional Vietnamese spots. We had the BBQ pork spring roll and it was excellent--really delightful. I ordered the Bún Bò Huế and rated it on three things: soup, toppings, and noodles. Soup -- The broth is tangy and spicy. Best version I've had in Austin. Solid 5 stars. Toppings -- Pork belly and a poached egg. The poached egg is unusual for Bún Bò Huế, but it worked. The pork belly was nicely fatty the way it should be. The meat itself didn't have a lot of flavor on its own--the broth kind of took over. Not sure if that's a knock or a compliment. There was a generous amount of meat, which meat lovers will appreciate. 3 stars. Noodles -- This is the weak point. The worst thing you can do to noodles for someone who eats with chopsticks is cut them. I get that short noodles are easier for people who don't use chopsticks, but this is Bún Bò Huế. Texture was fine; I just couldn't get past the short pieces. 1 star. Overall: 3.5 stars for the Bún Bò Huế. If they hadn't cut the noodles, this would easily be 4.5. I'll definitely come back for more spring rolls and to try other dishes--everything else looked good.

The place had a normal restaurant in the front with karaoke rooms in the back. What was cool was that you could order and eat Korean food inside the room while you sang. The rooms looked pretty new and they had most of the artists and songs we wanted. There was also a button inside to call for service. The service could have been better. We wanted a separate check since we were leaving early and they made it really difficult. They kept saying they would bring our check but never did so we had to go out and find someone ourselves. They also got one of our orders wrong and brought out the Spicy Pork with Vegetables instead of the Korean Beef Short Ribs. If there service was better, I would bump up my rating to 4.2 stars. C1. Honey Soy Sauce Fried Chicken ($24.99): Delicious and my favorite item of the night. The sauce was really good and they topped it with a generous amount of shredded cabbage. F2. Spicy Pork With Vegetables ($18.99): Came with a side of white rice. The flavors were good but the pork was a bit dry. F7. Spicy Pork Belly with Baby Octopus ($32.99): Spicy and very saucy. I liked the sliced rice cake and perilla leaves but there wasn't much octopus. The pork belly was thinly sliced and good but I wished there was more meat. I'm not a seafood person so it wasn't for me since the seafood flavor was pretty strong.
