Yes, the Walterboro location had a similar familiarity to the Ridgeland restaurant--but there were noticeable differences that gave us tremendous pause as we stood inside the doorway (stomachs growling). After re-checking Yelp, we realized that the "Duke's" that we wanted was another 45 minutes down I-95 South. My sister and I came to a silent, mental agreement that it was worth returning to Ridgeland. 2.5 hours later, it proved to be the smartest decision we would make that day. The Ridgeland location just seems to offer a more personal touch. The self-serve cafeteria part just feels fresher--and feels better well-stocked--than what we witnessed standing inside the doorway at the Walterboro location. Yes, we've had more memorable pulled pork...and more memorable fried chicken...elsewhere. But with all the available sauces, these are all positives to our southern food experience.
