This location of Duke's BBQ was good. The staff were nice. The buffet as well stocked & maintained by the staff. I love to try these little BBQ spots, but the pork BBQ wasn't that good. It was bland, dry & lacking flavor. They offer a variety of sauces: mustard based, sweet tomato & spiced vinegar. I like the pork to be able to stand in its own then add a nice vinegar based sauce. Those in our group preferred the hash, a meet based type of stew served over rice. It as flavorful. I have never seen it served outside SC. Glad we tried this restaurant. read more

Saw signage off side of hwy, looked them up on Yelp and had some decent reviews, didn't know I had to drive out the way to get there from the hwy but went on because the web said they were still open, got there and the lady was like we close at 8 even though it was still open, said all that to say I drove out my way to get this and the lady at the register didn't even offer assistance other then offering the scraps that was out. We have known about Duke's BBQ in Ridgeland but never tried it. We tried it today. For $15 you can eat their buffet. Lots of cooked veggies - corn, green beans, collards, butter beans. All OK. The deep fried okra was bad. Saturdays, they advertise ribs and Pulled pork. They had plenty of Pulled pork but no ribs. Eventually some ribs were brought out. The Pulled pork was just OK. They offer vinegar-based BBQ and some sort of other BBQ sauce. The fried chicken was the best part of the meal. The potato salad was good. They had banana pudding and peach cobbler for dessert, except they never brought out any more peach cobbler. Was it worth the $15? Barely. read more

I liked that there were different stations where you can get BBQ sauces, sweet tea, and utensils so you didn't have to wait in line for anything. I went back to get dessert. The buffet had "hash" which seemed to be a popular meat mixture, all the veggies including real collard greens. The corn nuggets and different bbq sauces were a cool addition. Back in March a family member and I travelled to dukes and got there around 6PM. Their website says they close at 8 but when we went to go in it was locked. Their doors even say they close at 8. Fast forward a few weeks later to last weekend (April 12, 2025) we tried again. We got there at 6 AGAIN they were closed. A worker unlocked the door and said "sorry were closed". AGAIN two hours before closing (their website and their doors still say they close at 8PM). I can't write on how the food was considering I was never able to get in. Apparently they just close whenever they want to. If you're traveling to Ridgeland just for Dukes BBQ I would suggest having a back up plan. read more

We really wanted to like this place as we always see it busy when open . We tried the food about 2yrs ago and it was soo dry, flavorless just not what we thought . A few months ago decided to try it again, and the same. The mac n cheese was so dry it just kinda separated. The pulled pork was just horrible, dry as well . The bbq sauces were good but as for the other stuff we tried we were once again disappointed. It's been 35 years since I've eaten at a Duke's BBQ. Know how they say don't go back because it's never as good as you remember it?? They're wrong! $12 buffet. All items fresh and ready to eat. Duke's is good but I wouldn't consider it a "must stop" by any means. I haven't seen real BBQ there (saucy and messy) any time we have gone. They do know how to fry really good chicken and fish and always have plenty to choose from in the "cafeteria" like lines. Are you willing to drive 8 hours for a truly satisfying lunch experience?!?!? Are you the type of people like us who plan your road trips around specific food stops??? BECAUSE THAT'S US!!! After discovering "Duke's" last year on an all-day road trip from Maryland to Fort Lauderdale, my sister had been daydreaming for weeks about making Duke's all-you-can-eat buffet as our only meal on the trip. So, two days ago, when we drove the 7 hours down I-95 South, we pulled into the town of Walterboro, arrived at "Dukes", and immediately realized that we had arrived at the wrong barbecue location! Yes, the Walterboro location had a similar familiarity to the Ridgeland restaurant--but there were noticeable differences that gave us tremendous pause as we stood inside the doorway (stomachs growling). After re-checking Yelp, we realized that the "Duke's" that we wanted was another 45 minutes down I-95 South. My sister and I came to a silent, mental agreement that it was worth returning to Ridgeland. 2.5 hours later, it proved to be the smartest decision we would make that day. The Ridgeland location just seems to offer a more personal touch. The self-serve cafeteria part just feels fresher--and feels better well-stocked--than what we witnessed standing inside the doorway at the Walterboro location. Yes, we've had more memorable pulled pork...and more memorable fried chicken...elsewhere. But with all the available sauces, these are all positives to our southern food experience. We always like the perfectly breaded & moist fried chicken better than the pulled pork. Ironically, it's many of the vegetable sides at this barbecue that we love; they compliment the meats so well. The tiny CORN FRITTERS might be my favorite thing to eat along I-95!!! The cole slaw has the perfect blend of vinegar & mayo. I actually added the pulled pork (and a little spicy BBQ sauce) to the already tasty collard greens--and I'm salivating right now just typing up this description. And at least the mac & cheese doesn't taste like it came out of a Kraft M&C box the way that you find at the more tourist trap-like southern BBQ restaurants. The staff is friendly, and they are always either re-filling the food, or else they are keeping the homey restaurant CLEAN! Well worth the short detour off I-95. Whenever I see critics criticize $12 all-you-can-eat prices, I just gotta laugh! That's about the price you'd pay just for a McDonald's meal that doesn't come close to satisfying us the way that every stop at the Ridgeland "Duke's" does! read more

We stopped by on our way to Florida after searching for a BBQ place in Savanah. We saw their billboard along I-95 and decided to give them a try. Pleasant enough in appearance, we walked inside. They were several people eating and 2 or 3 in line waiting to order and pay. The gentleman in front of us was having some difficulty in making clear his order. The young lady was not all that patient with him and a little rude. When it came to my turn I explained that I needed to ring my wife lunch and mine separated as I was on business and I needed a receipt. This obviously upset her and twice she mentioned the 3.5% Service charge by using my card. I finally told her to just charge the 40 cents for the card. The lady then told me to put a glove on and handed me a receipt. The food was good, not the best I ever had but certainly not the worst. It is difficult to judge the service due to COVID-19 restrictions but it appears they were having trouble keeping up with the chicken. All in all I would say it was a marginal experience and the rudeness of the manager or owner or who ever she was made my first experience with their restaurant ok at best. The worst part is they have signs about being kind and nice and even Scripture about being kind and loving to each other, all over their restaurant. It damaged the owners witness. Maybe she was just having a bad day. I am in this town a couple of times a quarter. I will give them another opportunity to change my mind about their business. But I will not be in a hurry to go back. read more

We met up with some family that was traveling on 95. The location isn't too far off 95, so it was convenient to hop on/off. We met on a Sunday, when they offer a $10 buffet which includes a drink and dessert. The food was okay- the fried chicken was probably my favorite thing on their buffet. The Mac and cheese was also pretty solid. The pulled pork, BBQ chicken and other sides were just okay. The desserts were great! Peach cobbler, banana pudding (homemade, tasted so good!) and chocolate cake. The drinks are lemonade, sweet tea or unsweetened tea. That's it. The decor was minimal and the joint was a bit run down. I probably won't travel up that way to eat there again, but will keep it in mind for future 95 travel. read more

My wife and I found this place driving south from Charleston, having seen the billboards on the interstate. We decided to give it a try and we were pleasantly surprised! Home-cooked bbq style food in buffet form. Very low-key, with throw-away plates and utensils. Excellent food... I especially liked the pulled pork with a choice of homemade sauces. Also, the best pickled beets I've ever had, obviously someone's family recipe. They have a separate dessert bar, and we tried them all... peach cobbler was my favorite of the three. Yelp came through for us on this one. On our way back to Michigan from Florida, my husband had a hankering for real Souther bbq. I was tasked with finding a bbq place that wasn't a chain. All 7 in our party ate for around $50. Not bad for a large family! We all got the buffet and there was something for everyone. We very much enjoyed the sauces, the chicken, the corn nuggets, the dessert options, and the cold sides. I also enjoyed the sweet tea! So I figure I'm not going to expect much for this price, boy was I wrong. This food is top notch and the sides are so fresh that the greens were probably in someone's garden the day before. the meat is totally off the chain. Not a bunch of confusing sauces just mild and hot and both were delicious. Where to start..... I guess at the cash register where I was greeted by some of the most pleasant people I have met in a long time. Just hand over $11.00 plus tax and tip. And then........ it is like welcome to the family! This place is hands down is the best chop I have ever had. And if you look at my past reviews I am a long haul truck driver. I run everywhere in the lower 48 and I am all about BBQ and I eat it every chance I get and in every state I can. Duke's is where my passion for BBQ was kick started about 4 years ago. If your looking for Brisket? Nope. They got chop! If your looking for sausage? Nope. They got chop! If your looking for Rib's, Fish and grit's or meatloaf. You got to catch that on the night there running it as a special. Duke's is all about the chop along with some delicious fried chicken and a buffet line with more tasty homemade hot and cold side's and desserts than you can shake a stick at. I love this place and am thankful to people here who pour there heart's and soul into this food. Bottom line is that if you are in the area, passing by on 95 or whatever.
