It is dated (historic is good but this Inn isn't kept up well). The people are kind, friendly and talkative. The guy at the desk told us the room was recently updated-I think the only update was a bigger tv. It smelled of fish and was very stale. I will say the bed was clean and comfortable but overall, this was not worth the $300 we paid. Pros: staff is very friendly, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, continental breakfast was lovely Cons: wifi is spotty, the room is quite small, and there was a nearby venue with really loud music. The gentleman at the front desk kindly checked in on the noise and let me know it wasn't one of the other rooms but that there was unfortunately nothing he could do about it. I was really hoping for a restful sleep but the neighboring music made that hard. read more

First constructed as a stage coach stop, this establishment has weathered the storms of time and now serves as a B&B with the Old Salt Restaurant attached. President (General, ret) Dwight Eisenhower stayed here. The ambiance is soothing, peaceful and poignant. Lovely all around from the period furniture, and interior design to the landscaping. You get the impression and desire to just stay here on vacation forever. When you add a soft October day with trees near full foliage the inn takes on a timeless quality all its own. You have to be realistic about where you are staying and what you are in for. Hear me out... the place is a historical building. Its a bit dated, but its quite lovely. The room was very clean. Every employee was cordial and left us without any want. They have a great little snack bar option and the out of room seating options are really cute and kind of "take you back". We had a lovely lace canopy bed which really felt romantic and fun. The breakfast options are generous and served in the restaurant. I made it a point to be the first person and had a lovely quiet breakfast for well over an hour with just muisc and some minimal ambient kitchen rustling. For the price, the service, ambiance and breakfast were toally worth it. I highly reccomend dining in at the restaurant for lunch or dinner as well. read more

Got called to quiet my kids which werent loud but because we were right on top of the check in area she didnt like it. Food next door not bad. Not kid friendly and haunted i heard. Not going back. We stay at Lamie's Inn once a summer for 4 nights. We love it! All staff are helpful and professional. There is a local fitness center that is available for guest use. The continental breakfast is amazing, served in the bar area with plenty of hot choices and seating. The only thing I would change is to replace the carpet in the rooms. read more

Went last weekend for visit to Portsmouth, NH. It is convenient to Portsmith New Hampshire, only 11 miles away. It is a Cute warm and cozy Inn. The lady who checked us in was very nice, pleasant, welcoming and friendly. If you are looking for modern, five star accommodations then this is probably not the place for you. If you're looking for an historic cozy inn Where the rooms fit The Inn atmosphere then this is a great place. They also have a great cozy Tavern Bar and separate restaurant on location which were both great. The food and service was friendly and great. Only stay at this hotel IF you book directly with the Inn!!! Upon checking-in, I was shamed for booking thru Expedia. We discovered that only one of the two room reservations were honored. We booked one Queen room & two Full beds. We ended up with two rooms both with double beds, over looking the bar! Sleep was hard as the window shades let in more light that it blocked out. You can easily hear conversations from your neighbors. Breakfast was the same, very morning, no variety but many high carb options. Upon checking out, I was once again shamed & remind how I would be penalized since I booked with Expedia. I was offered a discount coupon but then the discount card was rescinded. Dinner at Old Salt was very enjoyable. Our waitress Emma was very outgoing. Sorry, Lamie's; but it's time for us to part ways. read more

We liked the looks of this inn on the Internet and decided to make a reservation to stay here for one night. This is a quaint and charming inn that was built in 1740 and is still family owned and operated. We had called to see if we could check in early, and they said they would call us if that was possible. We were driving in from New Durham. They, in fact, did call, and we were able to check in early. When we arrived at the Inn, we were warmly greeted by Maureen. Our room was decorated in the colonial style highlighting the charm of that time, but offering us all the modern conveniences. We had free Wi-Fi, a private bath with a tub, hair dryer, ironing board, digital cable television (with more channels than we could watch in our short stay), individual climate control with air conditioning, alarm clock radios, in-room telephones, refrigerator, microwave, dehumidifier, room service, etc. Maureen very kindly suggested moving our car around so that we could easily walk to our room with our luggage. The room was comfortable. We could hear the TV in the next room, but once the a/c kicked on, it was quiet again. We slept very well. The next morning, we went to the Old Salt restaurant for a continental, cold buffet breakfast. They had freshly brewed decaf and regular coffee plus an assortment of teas. On the buffet, there was an assortment of cold cereals, yogurts, fresh baked goods, fresh fruit cocktail, fresh apples, bagels, toast, jams, cream cheese, butter, hard boiled eggs, and orange juice. It was just the perfect start to our travel day home. We enjoyed our stay at the Lamie's Inn. read more

When I arrived on Friday evening (August 20, 2021), the man at the front desk was derisive about the fact that I was wearing a mask. He asked "Where are you from? Are they still wearing masks there? I won't go there anymore because there are too many rules about masks." Needless to say, with the rise of the delta variant, this didn't make me feel very safe for the duration of my stay. The most warm and welcoming place we have ever stayed at. From the moment we walked in the door until we left. The front desk gals were the best, the dining room staff and lounge staff were all exceptionally friendly. the rooms are very clean, breakfast is above and beyond a continental breakfast, food is tremendous and reasonable. Historical charm near all the beaches. Perfect. I was desperately trying to find a place to stay 4th of July week that would welcome our four legged kids. We stopped in for dinner one night and asked about availability and pets. No problem! I booked our week right away. Then I had to adjust our reservation a few days before our stay. No problem! I also needed to check in late. No problem! The BIG problem. While they claim to be pet friendly, it's misleading. Their policy is that pets can't be left unattended. We were not told this when we made reservations IN PERSON. So, if you're a couple on vacation you can forget actually going out together unless you can find and pay extra for doggy daycare. Good luck if you're visiting on a holiday or have plans in the evening, NONE are open. This isn't reasonable at all. Don't walk them anywhere near the building either, that's a no no. I had walked them in an open area out back, but there is no no receptacle for waste except right next to the building entrance which is where I was informed that I shouldn't walk them near the building. Put a receptacle in the dog walking area then. We got the impression that dogs are tolerated, but not particularly welcome. We've stayed in many upscale and tourist class hotels with our dogs and have never experienced anything like this. They should just not allow pets or have a block of pet rooms together so pets and their people can stay worry free. It's ok for babies to cry, kids to screech, but oh my god if a dog barks for a few minutes you're the worst guest ever apparently. Our dinner at The Old Salt was interrupted because our dogs barked "for 5 minutes and then stopped". They stopped, it wasn't late, but I had to abandon my dinner that I had paid for. So, we were forced to cut our well deserved vacation short or just sit in our room the whole time. When I informed the desk that we'd have to do this, the woman informed me that she had seen all the notes from the night before in a "you're the dog people" tone. The rooms are colonial in style and very comfortable. Yet with modern conveniences such as a refrigerator, microwave, hair dryer, TV with plenty of cable channels, and free wi-fi. Spacious closet, large and well appointed bathroom, air conditioning, excellent water pressure, and a comfy bed with nice linens. Laundry service, vending machines, and ice are all available. They also have a 24 hour desk. Another review mentioned parking. Really, there is plenty. The inn and restaurant are popular with travelers and locals. You might not always be able to get a spot that you're personally happy with, but there is plenty of parking and the longest walk isn't bad at all. The manager sent us a form e-mail asking for feedback about our stay and we responded to it and let her know we were not happy at all. No response. I'm sorry, but if you ask for feedback you should have enough courtesy to respond when it's given. Especially if a guest was unhappy with their stay. We've since written to the owner and are waiting for a response. I'll update this if I get one. UPDATE: It's NOVEMBER and we never heard from anybody at Lamie's about our thoroughly unpleasant stay. We contacted them on Facebook and lodged a formal complaint with the BBB. Nothing. Very poor way to run a business, especially one in the hospitality industry. read more

Stayed here while on vacation in Hampton. Room was very clean and location of Inn was perfect in relation to the beach and other restaurants. We had free continental breakfast every morning and housekeeping was very attentive and pleasant. The beds were very comfortable and we felt like we were at home. The staff makes you feel very welcome. They have free apples which were very good as well. When we were not out trying different places to eat, we were watching TV on the 32 inch flat screen in our room which had plenty of channels including HBO. Perhaps one of greatest perks was being able to call down to the Old Salt restaurant (which is attached to the Inn) make a reservation and have them call us when seating was ready. Or if there was a wait for seeting, we didn't have to wait in the restaurant. Just go back to our room and wait for a phone call. This restaurant is really good and the food was amazing. All this being said we have already planned another get away and we are using this Inn to stay at again. Great place! read more

We booked our stay thru a 3rd party website and specifically said that we had four people and a dog and needed a room with 2 queen beds. Upon arrival, they had one person and no pets and made us feel like we were responsible for the inconveniences when they had us in a room with one bed and did not allow pets. This is definitely not as "PET FRIENDLY" as they claim. They only have 6 rooms that will even allow dogs. As with other posts, we were not informed ahead of time that dogs could not be left in the room unattended. There are no dogs allowed on state beaches in NH, so what's the point of having a pet friendly hotel in a place you can't bring dogs to the beach and you can't leave them if you want to go to the beach. They also told us at checkin that there was a continental breakfast in the restaurant until 10 AM. When we went on Sunday they told us that breakfast was packed up at 9, but we could go to buffet at the attached restaurant for $17.99 a person. No thank you. When we checked out of the room, they asked us how our stay was, we said it was fine, and the receptionist said "Well actually it wasn't fine for us- we had you as having one person and no pets and are lucky we were able to find a room for you." It is their problem for using the 3rd party website that does not provide all the information and they should definitely not have put the blame on us. read more

Stayed a few nights here while wifey and I were on our vacation to NE, NY, PA this year. At the end of the trip, we had circled back to the coast of NH and just wanted a pleasant, comfortable place to relax for our last couple days on vacation. Lamie's filled the bill quite well. Couple of issues...they have a good restaurant on site...and limited parking. If you happen to arrive back at the Inn after 5:00 ish...you may not have room to park! They should limit the space provided for the restaurant and provide the guests at the Inn to have some "special" parking. I know this would be a balance...but, one night we had to park a LOOONNNG way away...and the next morning we were leaving early for the airport...had to drag our bags out to the car...across a bunch of now empty parking spaces. Another issue...beds a bit soft for me. But...personal preference. read more

My husband and I are staying at the inn for the first time! Our experience so far has been so wonderful, I felt the need to write a review now. The rooms are very nice, neat, clean and cozy. But, the reason we will book another stay is the staff! We are staying during the NYE holiday at a time it can be very stressful for staff, but not here. From the moment we arrived, Bob at the front desk made our stay enjoyable. He was great to chat with and informative. We had a drink at the pub and Monica & Katie the bartenders made our visit. We stayed for two nights in March when we lost power at our home. The room was very nice, not huge but certainly big enough for two and very clean and well kept. We thoroughly enjoyed or stay. I was in town for a hockey weekend in Exeter. I chose this hotel because is was close to the rink but in a great area. The hotel staff are very friendly and very helpful. The rooms are clean and have the biggest selection of TV channels I have ever seen in a hotel. I took off a half a star for the parking. The restaurant in the hotel is apparently a local hot spot. The parking lot gets full around dinner time so if you are staying in the hotel you might not be able to find a spot. There aren't that many rooms and he parking lot is a nice size that wraps around. I would suggest making a certain number of spots available for ONLY guests of the hotel. Maybe one spot per room. The other issue I had (and took off another half star) was they have live music on Fridays and Saturdays. My room was above the restaurant. The live music goes until midnight. Since I was there for a hockey tournament I had games at 8am over the weekend and had to listen to the loud music through the floor. Then after it was done the loud drunken customers were yelling and carryng on in the parking lot until about 1:30am. This happened BOTH nights. They should definitely be considerate to the paying guests by making sure the music isn't loud and that patrons of the tavern aren't hanging out in the parking lot. read more

I got a solid deal on this inn through Priceline ($109 a night IIRC) and we had a great stay here. I'd never stayed in a historical inn and I enjoyed it thoroughly. My boyfriend & I just came home from our birthday getaway at Lamies and are beyond satisfied with our experience. From the staff to the cleanliness to the ambience - everything was five-star. Very cozy rooms - perfect size for the two of us. Bed and pillows were comfortable as well. Brick-walls were a nice touch that we've never run into before. The Sunday Brunch buffet at the connected Old Salt Tavern is a MUST for any visitor if you are staying the weekend. Be sure to ask the front desk for discount card. $2 off each meal if you are a Lamies Inn guest. SCORE! Old Salt Tavern also has amazing dinner food and what a gorgeous atmosphere! I am writing this review for the excellent service we got from this place. We were in town for a school visit last week and initially made reservation for two nights. We then changed to only one night, no problem, it was easy over the phone. We landed in Boston airport at 5:30am. We called the day before to ask if we could check in early and asked to pay the day rate for checking in early. After driving in the stormy rain from the airport, we arrived at the hotel around 7:00am. A very sweet gentleman (sorry, I can't remember his name), a smiling bold man, received us with a very warm welcome and showed us the room. Nothing was better than a two-hour nap in their comfortable and super clean beds. We then went out and came back in the afternoon to find the beds made neatly and the room cleaned. The room was a bit small for our family of four but hey, the price was so reasonable at $126.55/night for this cozy bedroom. We checked out the next morning, and I noticed that the invoice showed only the amount for one night. I asked about the day rate. It was free. The same afternoon, I got a phone call about my PJs forgotten behind the bathroom door. They offered to send them by mail. I can't say enough about the wonderful services we got after just one night stay at this place. We will definitely come back here. read more
