We spent the weekend at the Ashworth by the Sea because we were attending a group event there. Our housecleaning person, Carl J was awesome and the epitome of outgoing cheerfulness. The rooms are evidently undergoing some renovations; however, I don't think there is anyway to renovate this to today's expectations and standards. The heating and cooling unit is loud enough that if you are trying to watch TV you have to turn the volume up when it kicks in and down when it cycles down. The floor had a downhill tilt (not as noticeable in shoes but definitely if you are barefoot). A laminate wood floor has been added as an "update" at sometime, which would have been the time to level up the slope. The ceiling and areas around the heat/air unit all have crazy gaps and need better trim work. Let's talk ventilation and insulation. I swear the ducts just connect one room to another. We listened to the kids next door carrying on till after 11 and the parents evidently didn't care about other guests and the running up and down the halls and hollering during other times was like they were in our room with us. Our room was over the function room and I think the music was louder in our room than it was when we had been downstairs. The advertised "shared microwave" is just one in the lobby, not even one on each floor by the ice machines. We attended a function on Saturday night in the banquet hall. The serving staff was great and were hustling their butt's off. The food was a giant hit or miss!! Those who had pre-ordered the grilled sirloin had the home run meal. The rest of us struck out. The chicken was pounded so thin that it was dry all the way through except for a silver dollar sized area, those who got the ravioli found them to be under stuffed and lacked any kind of sauce so were also dry. If that wasn't bad enough everything was luke warm, but because I was hungry I ate the broccoli and penne . The salds were good, veggies were crispy. Dressing was spotty on some of them and well dressed on others. For the outrageous meal price for events, I am sure we will not be back. August 22-24 2025 / standard king room I really wanted to like this hotel because of its location, but unfortunately my stay was very disappointing. Upon arrival, The floor was dirty (see photo), the tissue holder in the bathroom was rusty, and the baseboards were both dirty and covered with hair (see photos). The bathroom was stocked with no extra toilet paper or tissues, and the bath towels provided were tiny and felt more like hand towels than bath towels. The bedding wasn't much better - I found dirty pillow cases when I checked in. In terms of amenities, the room lacked the basics I'd expect from a hotel in this price range. There was no information about restaurants, hotel hours, or amenities provided in the room, and no phone or safe available. Service was also hit or miss. The valet consistently took around 15 minutes to bring the car, which is a long wait when you're trying to get somewhere. On top of that, I had requested feather-free (hypoallergenic) pillows and comforter, but it took two attempts and over an hour and a half after check-in to finally get it resolved. Overall, the hotel has potential because of its beachfront location, but the lack of cleanliness, poor room setup, and slow service made for a very frustrating experience. I expected much better for the price and would not stay here again unless significant improvements are made. When we brought our concerns up (again) upon check out they did wave the parking and resort fee's but we will not be returning... Perhaps the name should change to Trashworth.... None of these bad reviews should be a surprise to anyone. Hampton Beach is a run-down dump whose glory days have long since passed. We used to look forward to going to the Ashworth to dine, but the last couple of times it was nothing like it used to be - overpriced food served cold, and when brought to the staff's attention: "So sorry to hear that" was the response. Save yourself from the disappointment and stay away from Hampton Beach. It's a slum now. read more

Just had another great summer vacation here. The staff are friendly, attentive and understanding. This place is located in good proximity for walking up and down the Boulevard and rest of the strip without being right in the midst of the chaos. Good rooftop bar and live music, love briefly heading to the hotel pool after the beach. Wharfside has nice breakfast before heading out to the water. Will be back next summer for sure. read more

We had a great extended stay at the Ashworth to see family and friends in the area. The location is great and the boardwalk is right outside of the front door and is about a 2 mile roundtrip which is a great walk anytime of the day. The king/sofa bed room had been renovated and was perfect for my wife, son and I. It was nice to have a good size fridge in the room and the indoor heated pool. Also, they have beach chairs and bicycles to use during your stay. The wharfside restaurant was a great place for breakfast as well and not too pricey. The hotel and amenities were great, but what made our stay special was the staff. Gerry the front desk manager was extremely helpful with our requests and the entire team was very responsive. They went out of their way to make our stay memorable. We will stay here again on future trips to the area. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. The hotel is so rundown that it's a wonder it's still open. The person at the front desk was so rude and unhelpful that it started off our day on a bad foot. We recently stayed a night at the Ashworth by the sea in Hampton Beach (off season). It's a no frill hotel right across from the beach with a pretty pricy room rate. The location is great, I'd say it adds about $100 to the cost of the hotel room. There's also a $20 resort fee that I couldn't figure out what it was for. It felt like a 'because we can' fee. There was no breakfast offered on a Monday morning at the restaurant. I'd stay there again as it's the best of some pretty poor options in town but definitely not on season. read more

My husband and I went away for the weekend in Hampton. The valet and front desk were great. The rooms were clean and comfortable with a spectacular view. We went to the hotel restaurant a few times. The waitstaff, bartenders and food were good. However, we did witness a few times the manager, Mike? seemed very unprofessional by demeaning and yelling at the waitstaff and made us uncomfortable. I am honestly shocked that this place has such low reviews ... I hope that mine can help counter that a bit. First, let's get the bad out of the way, the sole reason I dinged a star: The bars and bartenders are not very good. Their pizza was great, but the food at the rooftop joint was mediocre at best, and the bartenders at both bars were not terribly skilled, yet arrogant to a fault. We did enjoy the breakfast, however. The hotel itself is very old and dated, which had me initially concerned. However, it is good and clean, and the rooms were spacious and pleasant. Yes, I said "rooms," plural -- which brings me to the reason that I recommend this place so highly: The staff were absolutely FANTASTIC. Everyone was kind and super helpful, but I must give a special shout-out to the overnight staff member who came through to save the day (well, night, as it were). My partner has some mental health issues and was having a difficult time sleeping in the first room that we chose. When I explained the situation to the staff member (at 4 AM), she was instantly sympathetic and kind, and clicked a few buttons to instantly upgrade our room to one with a sofa bed (the beds here were too soft for him) which she personally made up herself. I was a bit concerned that this would result in us being charged for 2x rooms for a night, but no; there was only a slight upcharge for the upgraded room. Overall, I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again if we ever do another overnight trip to Hampton. read more

Booked my room in February, requested a balcony. Called the hotel in June to double check and I was told that"Yes, your room has a balcony". Checked in on8/5/2025, No Balcony. The desk was compassionet, but they didn't have any rooms with a balcony available. Highly let down. I went to the desk several times as their reservation service told me that there was such a room available. The manager, a young woman, went by me a couple of times and she couldn't have cared less. I was not happy and it showed, but she just went by me, with no effort or concern. What was really annoying in was she. called a friend into her office to play with her dog! A minor problem was no microwave in the room. I have be never stayed at a hotel without one. For $500+ a night for my only vacation this year, this place is a disappointment. read more

I stayed in the newly renovated Rock n' Roll room. I'll never stay anywhere else on the beach again. It was amazing! The bathroom was huge, the pull out couch was so comfortable, it was memory foam. Full view of the ocean... no balcony but that worked out well during a heatwave. A real turn table with records!! When booking talk to Gerry, be mindfull of early and late check in/out fees. If you check in before 1pm it's $75, at 2pm it's $50. Best suggestion arrive early get the free parking, have a beach plan and wait for the 4pm check in. There is also a fee for late check out, but you can still keep your car there without the extra cost. read more

This is an old review that I had in my drafts. Thoughts and prayers. Night 1: put on 1st floor. Carpet wet. Very wet. No wifi. Bathroom and tub yellow. Smoker yellow. Bathroom has beenGarbage still filled in room from previous tenant. Woken up at 6:45 by construction work above my head, assuming from 2nd floor. Night 2: they move my room at my assistants request (thanks!) to the 3rd floor. Good news -- wood floors on the 3rd floor, so it's not multiple decade old carpet like floor 1. Bad news -- they said they moved my items.. they did not. They were not in the old or new room. Just...gone! But don't worry, you can't call the front desk because there is phones in the room. My wife asked me where I wanted to go for my birthday this weekend and the first place that jumped To mind was the Ashworth! The location is wonderful and even with November weather, Hampton is a great, but the best by far is the staff. It is always great being welcomed by a professional, but Ron goes out of his way to make sure our stay is fantastic. We have visited the hotel in the past and seeing Ron is almost like being welcomed by family. He is very knowledgeable about the current events in Hampton and always has great suggestions for restaurants. Here is my feedback. I am 87 years old and walk with a cane. I requested a handicap room expecting to stay four nights with one night free. You put me in room 205. When I got to the room, there were only two places I could sit on the bed or on the toilet no chair. Your maintenance man was kind enough to find a chair in your attic. There is no safety cord next to the toilet should I fall and no, telephone if I needed something. The day before I left I noticed the water pressure was slowing down in the shower. The day I left there was no water in the shower. I had to use to sink to clean up. I think I was way overcharged , 360 some dollars for a room like that is not only excessive but unfair read more

I stayed the weekend, and it was fine. I agree with some of the comments in that the King room pics indicate a much larger space. The sliding glass door was nearly impossible to open and shut, but managed putting all my weight into it. The freezer needs a defrost. Checking in and out was a breeze and the location was good. First off, let me say the pictures are VERY misleading! This place is a run-down dump! We booked on THEIR website, for a DELUXE king, oceanfront room. When we got to our room it was in the back, it was a queen and it was filthy! Upon pulling back the sheets I discovered a bug on my pillow! There are no USB ports for phone charging, the balcony was a joke, so small that only one person could be on it! The "ballroom" was having a father-daughter dance and our room above it literally was shaking from the bass and the noise! We will never return to this place. Please don't stay here. We were driving back from a wedding and our car blew a tire and I had to wait a day for a new tire to arrive. We stayed here as it was the only available room in the area. Now I know why. Dirty, dark, and dated does not begin to cover it. It gives off early 90s biker chic vibes. The sheets were scratchy, and the thin bath towels were too. I don't know why but it just didn't feel terribly safe. Staff was indifferent. Breakfast was fine, but not included. It was raining so the view wasn't such a big deal, but I'm sure it is nice. If you're up here to do the beach and drink without driving, you're probably fine. Maybe a bachelor party would love it. read more

The location is perfect and the valet guy was great. We were in the second building and it was being remodeled but it was very run down. The room smelled moldy and was very tiny, although the bed was comfortable. The TV gets a 10 because it was huge for the room. I understand that they are remodeling but to charge us full price when we walked up stairs with half ripped up rugs and debris in places was very disappointing. I didn't care much for this place. We pretty much came during off season and it was still expensive. That's fine, back it up then. I was expecting something newer or more up to date. The room at a quick glance looked cozy but everything felt dirty. My bf and I kept joking that everything was hospital-like. The toiletries were cheap and the pillows looked like it was some cotton inside one of those produce bag that you find at a grocery store. And there was that time where my cellphone fell into the cracks of the sofa and so I had to lift the cushion to retrieve it. You guys...There was half eaten crab rangoon that I'm pretty sure is just one day away from morphing into a real crab. Nasty carpet and sticky coffee table. It was a bit depressing. This is one of the nicer hotels on Hampton Beach- which isn't saying much but really wanted a good hotel & this seemed to be the nicest hotel on ocean Blvd. Everything was new in the room and we did have a partial ocean view. We stayed for 2 nights and paid a whopping $702 to be awoken every morning around 7:30 by what sounded like jack hammering! Great way to wake up on your vacation- NOT. When I mentioned it to the woman upon checkout she didn't seem to care AT ALL. LIKE NOT WHAT I would have wanted at all! I would have forfeited the partial ocean view to escape that god forsaken noise!! Aside from the horrible noises- it was a decent hotel- but would I stay again- when they didn't accommodate us regarding the "noise" issue on our vacation- No I would not! read more

We have been staying here for 4 days in the summer for around 30 years. It's always good, and sometimes exceptional. Our recent visit hit it out of the ballpark! Why? STAFF, STAFF, STAFF! From the time we walked in the door until we walked out, EVERYONE on staff was the best they have EVER been. Jolena, at the front desk was friendly and welcoming and so knowledgeable for being brand new. Dave, the house engineer remembered us and immediately responded when we said we couldn't easily get the sliding glass door open. And returned the next day to put the final touches on it to slide easier, all the while entertaining us with hotel experiences over the years. Then, although the room was spotless when we checked in, we didn't realize until we took our shoes off that it hadn't been vacuumed. Sand all over the floor. Went to the front desk and Jolena immediately had it taken care of. The biggest exceptional service was when I had to go to the front desk at 5 AM! and tell them there were 4 women on the balcony next to hours yelling and partying and making a huge racket....at 5 AM! The clerk on duty had to go into the street and yell up at them to stop all the noise because they were so loud they didn't hear him banging on their door. I had to go to the front desk one more time later in the day when they were so loud we couldn't even carry on a conversation without yelling. Once again, immediately handled. The cleaning staff were also super friendly and efficient. When we ate in Breakers Restaurant, downstairs, the food was delicious and our waitress super nice. And the valet guys bust their ass, racing around non stop to get people on their way in or out, and always with a smile! So, in the 30+ summers we have vacationed here, this was the best, thanks to the incredible STAFF. read more

March 5, 2023 I spoke three weeks ago with Me Brian White regarding a problem that happened to us at the Ashworth Hotel March 3, 2023. We arrived March 3, 2023 during a a blizzard. We settled in the room and realized there was no heat coming from the heater. The front desk supervisor came up and could not get the heater to work. He told us the repair person would be in Saturday morning, March 4. We got extra blankets but that did not keep us warm. Mr. White called me and we discussed what happened and he promised he would be sending a letter complementing one days stay at your hotel. He said it would take 5 to 10 days to get to me in the mail. We also discussed that bookings.com had not reversed the charges for March 3, crediting my card for that night stay. Mr. White mentioned in our conversation that he had sent them an email and it should straighten everything out, but as of May 3, I still have not received Mr White's letter nor has Bookings. We traveled out of state arriving late. Upon arrival the lady at the front desk and rude and short, providing no information. I had to pry about parking ect and received an attitude. Upon parking and entering to our room we were shocked. The room that was given and listed as "clean" was not actually clean. The room itself was dusty, with medical supplies behind the nightstand. Every object was covered in dust: tv, cabinets, baseboards ect. The mini fridge had small dead bugs and other debris leaving it unusable.. Upon entering the bathroom the toilet was covered in a film of mold. The shower was also covered in a pink film- including the shower head itself. The only clean thing about this room was the actual sheets on the bed. For the price paid on off season the room could of been up to clean standards and sanitary. We tried to contact the front desk with no answer and upon leaving no one was present to checkout or listen to our concerns. After this unpleasant stay with a dirty room we will not be returning but wanted something to be done about this. read more

Not good. Got there right when Easter brunch started, the buffet was already turning cold. The food was mostly bland mush. Took over 15 minutes to just get coffee, at a breakfast place, that wasn't crowded. Even the chocolates they brought with the bill tasted rancid, like they found them leftover from 3 years ago. It is so refreshing to be welcomed and still have safety measures followed in 2020! I loved our stay at Ashworth. We found a Groupon and needed a break so a girls trip was just what we needed. The hotel itself is right on the beach. Many of the rooms have an ocean view. This historic hotel opened in 1912 is no fossil. It is well maintained and updated. There are 2 restaurants on site. We enjoyed breakfast every day at the Wharfside Cafe. Reynaldo made us an omelet fit for a queen with a delicious order of French toast. You must enjoy a nice breakfast here it's worth it. Our room was spacious and had a balcony on the ocean side. All of the staff were courteous and professional. I would definitely stay again. read more

I have stayed here in the past and had a great experience. I expected more from the cleaning and sanitation end during this pandemic, especially for the price I paid each night. The room was not clean at all. Especially the bathroom. The sink had hair in it and the tub had dirt on the outside. The shelf where the towels were kept was dusty as was the bathroom door, like it hasn't been wiped in months. Not acceptable especially in a pandemic. The place should have been spotless. And they are not offering housekeeping during your stay There was a pile of dirty used towels outside a door across from my room that no one picked up. I would not stay here again, and not recommend staying here. I am debating on leaving early but don't want to lose my money, they have a strict no refund policy The saving grace is the staff, everyone is very nice and accommodating. That's all they have going for them. And the location is nice too. read more

So a months ago I booked a two nights stay. When I booked we were under the impression with COVID-19 things were getting better. My wife and I wanted to spend our 20 year wedding anniversary. Recently states started rising again with COVID-19, NH is one of those states. With my given health of having a compromised immune system we decided I couldn't risk it. So there was an option where you could request a cancellation and they have the option not to charge the one nights cost of a room rate $296.10. However after the request they decided to be greedy and keep it and deny the one nights stay. Well enjoy the cash because I will never grace your doorway. Your apparently not a very hospitable place and I don't wanna go there after. So this is an update, after posting this review they had a change of heart after telling me no they won't refund me. Well I guess at the end of the day they did the right thing but I stand firm on never coming back. I more then likely won't return to Hampton Beach. read more

Very disappointed. I came here to relax and enjoy myself. I called ahead to make sure the pool was open and I figured I could swim during my stay. That was a mistake. I entered the pool area and found it quite chilly. I also tested the water and found it also to be cold. The bottom line if you're going to advertise that the pool is open, it should be usable. I've never purchased anything from Groupon so deciding to book our hotel from them was a little scary. I'm happy to report though everything in terms of booking worked out like it was supposed to. There were a few things I don't remember seeing in the Groupon add like the $18 per day parking fee and the $15 resort fee. I would have still booked it but it was a little surprise at check in. The hotel sits right across from the ocean. All the rooms have an ocean view which is really nice. Them rooms are decent size, the decode is nice but a little dated and the best are really comfortable. The bathroom looks like it's been remodeled recently. Here is my one complaint, and I think it's a design flaw in the ceiling, but we could hear everything the people in the room next to use were saying! When we first walked in I thought music was playing from the smoke detector but upon further inspection the sound was coming from the seam were the wall and the ceiling met. At 11:30, when the people staying next to us retuned from a night out, we heard all about it for 15 minutes. Thankfully they weren't up long so we were able to get some sleep. Overall not a bad hotel. 4 stars is too high and 3 stars is too low so it's a solid 3.5 stars. read more

Make sure you know exactly what you paying for before you come to this dysfunctional run down hotel. Your better off at the holiday inn. Reception is rude and has zero knowledge of whats going on. what a mess- 2 days cost over $1150. the staff could care less about you or your experience in this hotel. got a $ 20 Rubin for takeout and it's the grossest one I've ever seen- I can't eat it. the bartender was pissed he doesn't get a $20 tip for hi precious time. The bed had dust on it, floor was full of sand . for over $525 a night they should be sooo much better. I've never sent a review on a business before. God awful don't stay here please you are better to sleep in a car or go camping. Was told we would get a ocean view and balcony and instead got a room looking over the other side of the hotel and a parking lot. The shower didn't shut all the way. I accidentally cut my self shaving so I called down to the desk, after searching online for the hotels number since they had no phone in the room and no phone number listed anywhere in the room. The person at the desk told me they didn't have bandaids even though they have two restaurants and legally you need first aid kits but okay. They brought we a wash cloth instead. Extremely disappointed in this hotel for the price - I've been to MANY hotels all over and this was one of the most expensive stays and the most awful experience. 1. Room is dirty upon entering 2. Room wasn't even ready upon check in 3. The room smelled AWFUL of paint - I 100% believe we couldn't get into our room bc they were finishing painting. Gave me a headache the entire weekend 4. No housekeeping daily 5. Requested extra towels before we left - came back around 10pm to still no towels - had to walk down and ask because they don't even have a phone in the room to call the front desk 6.
