I've been meaning to check this place out for a long time and finally the opportunity presented itself. My husband and I are looking for shrubbery, flowers and succulents that we don't already have for our 1 1/2 acre yard and were excited to take a leisurely stroll through the nursery and map out a rough landscaping plan our heads. With that much land we have a lot of planting options, which means more plants to buy than the average home. It also takes time to make thoughtful decisions, especially for something you're going to be living with for a very long time. We planned on combing the place, then buy what we liked. Pretty sure most people do the same.
My husband and I were the only customers and after about 5 minutes of looking an employee came to ask if we needed help. My husband asked what an unmarked plant cost and the man quoted a price. I thanked him and told him we were still looking around, at which point he abruptly turned away from us and started to walk away in irritation. My husband is a people person and attempted to explain that we live close by and wanted to see what he had in stock, since we drive by it all the time. The employee said, "Yeah," as my husband was speaking and left entirely, leaving us standing there like idiots. We should've left but continued to look around. We saw many things we wanted to buy, but at that point we felt foolish and like we were an annoyance because we didn't instantly know what we wanted. We also didn't commit to buying the plant we asked about (most of their prices are fair, but this particular plant was a little too much), which visibly ticked him off.
I don't expect a business to roll out the red carpet for me, but a little courtesy and friendliness goes a very long way. When you're talking to someone and they turn their back on you and walk away, cutting you off with an abrupt, 'yeah', why in the world would you want to give them your business? It was made very clear that if we weren't there to buy something immediately, then we weren't worth his time. If he'd been just a little decent, he would've had a pretty generous sale from us right then, and many more purchases in the future. What a disappointment. We were so excited to check out a place we haven't been to before, and it was so convenient to our house that we were hoping to make it our "go-to" place for all our landscaping needs. We won't be back. read more
