This negative review has been building for quite some time. I've lived out on the island for 10 years and shopped at this Ace the entire time. Over time, the customer service and general vibe of this store has gotten increasingly negative. I actually saw another recent review calling out the fact that the guy doesn't normally even take the time to review a hardware store, but the interactions are so negative that he felt like sharing and I couldn't feel more in agreement. I'm not sure what the deal is. Most employees are hanging around with RBF ready to look inconvenienced by the presence of customers. They like to give the impression of helpfulness shrouded in resentment and seemingly fatigue. I just got back from purchasing some tape which they insisted that someone help me with and then they sold me the wrong tape, which I then had to return to the store to return and buy the right tape. No, " I apologize for the inconvenience" or "sorry about that" Literally nothing. The dude that just "helped" me is just hanging back watching me return his selection about to cough up a lung. i'm starting to really believe that I'm being loyal to a fault, trying to give a small business some support, but honestly, I'd rather drive to another location or another business. Don't even get me started on the big guy that works outside where you pick up mulch- lol he's been a jerk for years! If misery loves company- they sure have all found each other. The exceptions to this should be mentioned but they weren't working tonight. The best part of the store is the garden department. There are some absolutely wonderful and knowledgeable people that work in that section! read more

I can't think of any time I've really gone out of my way to review a store like a hardware store but after five or six fairly negative interactions at Hagan I thought I might weigh in. Every time I go in here I feel like I'm at a club that I'm not welcome at. It seems like the old guard of workers here is very cliquish. I feel like every time I walk in, they look at me like I should just help yourself. Not only that I've had some really bizarre interactions. Like going to purchase something and being told that I can't because it was not a good plant or something like that. Always a little cult like. Again this is after five or six stops over the last year and normally wouldn't say anything but just had another not so great interaction. Geez, all I want to do is buy some hardware and look for a little help. I don't need to be ignored when I walk in the store or treated like I'm not a member. Weird I don't get this at Ace Hardware's in other towns high shopping. Maybe time to have a chat with the old guard cause they just ain't making me feel it. Oh well, perhaps I'm a party of wine but thought the feedback might be valuable considering that's what I do for a living. read more

I have very positive experience with ACE in Butler, PA and now after my parents bought property here many years ago my wife and I were finally able to build and move here. I can tell you this ACE location far exceeds tbe 5 star rating of the other ACE I mentioned. I've been to ACE on the island about 4 times spending anywhere from $2 to $85 and the great level of service was the same. I believe the manager really helped helped us 1st pick out 2 cycle oil today and then many thanks go out to the older woman that spent a lot of time helping us in the nursery today giving us the lowdown on plants and what does well in this climate even giving us the name of a place to have a load of topsoil delivered. We left with a beautiful palm and some flowers and will always buy our plants there and other items over the big box stores even if their prices may be slightly better which I'm not sure of. The level of service, support and friendliness here is incredible. I can't recommend this ACE location enough!! read more

Few weeks back went Ace for screws, washers, nuts, exterior door knob and exterior latch. Tina asked if I needed help and spent a considerable amount of time locating exactly what I needed. While paying, I asked to speak to the manager to compliment Tina and was advised that she was the manager. So a shout out to Manager Tina for outstanding customer service and setting an example to her staff. Been to this Ace several times for hardware for condos in Crescent Beach and staff are always helpful. read more

I associated Hagan Ace Hardware with quality service and merchandise (since I have patronized 2 of their stores in Green Cove Springs and Orange Park, and had great experiences with both). I was very disappointed with, not only the less-than-good service, but the availability and quality of merchandise was a let-down. The aesthetics of the store was cluttered, and products placement was a bit confusing. After finally finding an employee willing to help me (who was nice) didn't really give me options for a product I was looking for (which they did not carry). After that, we did find a couple of snack items to enjoy on the way home, and I was informed that I could get my knife sharpened for free (since I was a veteran). So, I made my way to the knife sharpening area with my knife (I was so excited to get this done), only to be told by the gentleman at the counter that they can't sharpen serrated edge knives. Again, let down. Oh well, at least the popcorn and sodas we purchased satisfied our tummies! read more

Waited 20 minutes for someone to show up to have a key made - finally was told, "we're short handed and no one is available", while two employees sat in rocking chairs in the front of the store! Also tried to buy a $39 keybox that was secured to the shelf with an anti-theft device. Couldn't get anyone to unlock the keybox! Its Saturday! Do better - off to Lowes as much as I'd rather keep my business local! read more

I moved only a few blocks from this island store and I really appreciate the friendly, personal service I always get here. Someone is always asking if I need help and they all seem quite knowledgeable. They have done some special re-keying for me, bent a metal piece on the tool table in back, matched paint, and Alex is always helping me with me landscaping and potted plants. The only drawback is that due to the size they may not have everything one needs -- but they have everything I need and that is predominantly personal service. Prices are close to HD! read more

This place is just fine for what it is, which is a convenient place to buy hardware if you live in the area and don't need a lot of stuff and don't feel like driving to Home Depot. Their stock is somewhat limited and they are on the expensive side, but their staff is friendly and you may save gas money by not having to drive across the bridge. read more

I've been there a few times, in a pinch. Every time, I've had to hunt down a salesperson. Every time, their stuff was overpriced. They may or may not know about your lawns fertilizer needs. Sometimes, they don't acknowledge you at all. Or they were closed. Go here if it's a Saturday morning, you know exactly what you need, and Home Depot is closed for whatever reason. read more

A great place to buy local, family owned. Convenient. Not on the high side for simple things, mulch, fertilizer, pots, plants, dirt and propaine. A little more expensive for inside goods. Nice people and free popcorn. But check their work. We got a piece of glass cut for a picture frame. Besides the glass being filthy, the young man fastened the cover paper on with stickers that needed Goo-gone to remove. But the killer was we carefully and more than once specified the dimensions to 1/8 inch yet got home and the glass was too small. read more
