Shoutout to our local community heroes at this venue!!! I felt the love as soon as I got out of my truck. The handicap parking spot that I used was literally at the entrance of the store! I almost thought I would block the walkway for the customers. But Ms Denise was kind enough to tell me that the parking spot was correctly positioned and the opening gate was as just a bit off track. All figured out and then I was ready to explore! I had 2 employees ask me if I needed help within 2 minutes of entry and then 2 minutes apart from each other!!! Now that's attentiveness!!! I got to look at all the goodies! Find great variety and value! And even found out that I could order things from the app if they weren't available in the store!!! Beautifully organized shopping! Amazing plants, clothing, gadgets, gizmos, and beyond! Necessities, wants, needs, and gifts! Clean restrooms. And I got complimentary fresh popcorn!!!! I love the staff and how fun they are!!! John and Brandon helped me the other day by doing something in their shop and I was ecstatic. They were so courteous and helpful beyond belief! this was not the only time but other times as well with other associates. They are your friendly hardware store! I live in Hendersonville, , NC but visit m in laws many tomes a year and buy stuff from this store. I got a call from the manager and the assistant manager that they would make it right. Let me start out by saying I never thought that I would be writing a review for an Ace Hardware. That being said, the customer service and attitude of two employees that I just experienced was so atrocious that I am now writing this review. My sister has being going through a difficult time recently, one of those periods in your life where it seems like everything is just going wrong. When she called me today for help because her car key has snapped in half while she was trying to turn on the ignition, I rushed to where she was parked (at the Farmers Market) to help her out because I knew she did not need another bad thing happening to her. I picked her up and headed to the island ace hardware-- I always go there because the employees are so nice and helpful. They quickly informed us we would have to go to the US-1S Ace because they did not have the proper equipment. No problem, they were nice as usual and I was willing to go anywhere to try and make this day even a little less stressful for my sister. When we got to the US-1S Ace, I took the lead because my sister could barely hold it together as it was. We went in and were directed to he keying department. I told them we needed a Honda Civic key, and without looking an older man told us they didn't carry that key. So, just to be sure because he was so dismissive, I googled the key to see which one we would have to get (they were all hanging up in front of us). Sure as can be, I found the key hanging right there within less than a minute. The employee is still standing at the key station, so I turn back to him and ask if the key that says Honda Civic is indeed the Honda Civic key we need. I'm thinking maybe he had forgotten they carried it, but either way happy that we have the key in hand. The employee confirms that it is indeed the correct key, but sighs and THROWS HIS HEAD BACK and says he'll have to "figure out the machine." Ten minutes later, while my sister waits anxiously because her job shift starts in only an hour, another older male employee approaches to seemingly help with the key cutting. The newly appeared employee then tell us the machine is broken. Although this is not good news, I try to remain hopeful because the Honda dealership is across the street-- and I understand that sometimes machines break. I ask if there are other Ace Hardwares that have a machine we could take the key to, or if he would recommend us taking it to the dealership. Now I understand that we are two 25 year old women alone in a hardware store, and maybe this is a question that had an obvious answer to this employee, but his attitude was so snarky and vile. My sister started tearing up so I tried to keep the situation calm so she would not start crying, and even though I was bothered by his attitude I politely informed him that we were just asking because we had no idea what to do and maybe he would have some helpful advice. The employee then tells us "The Machines broken. I don't know what to tell you besides come back when it's not." Then he walked away quickly, perhaps tending to the other non-existent customers in the empty store. Perhaps that was the only answer he had, but his terrible attitude was not necessary. You shouldn't treat people like that, especially those who are clearly already out on their luck, and ESPECIALLY when you work in customer service. I think this story should speak for itself about what an experience at this store is like. Luckily I was able to get the car started on my own by rigging the key to some pliers with glue, but stopping at this store made my sisters bad situation so much worse. He could have at least been decent to us. read more

I don't normally leave reviews for stores. I was so impressed with the staff at this location, I had to share! I was in Florida to visit my 90 yr old grandma. She had brought a lamp that she made with seashells to have the switch replaced. As soon as we walked in, one of the employees recognized her and chatted her up, asking how she was. My grandma doesn't come here often. She uses a walker, so it's difficult for her to get to places. The staff at this Ace Hardware are so accommodating to her! They fixed her lamp and she was so happy. We needed a new smoke detector and they took care of it for her. I was just so impressed with how friendly and helpful everyone was. It's nice to know that my grandma is taken care of when she needs help here! read more

Scam scam and ashamed . I went to Hagan Ace hardware this morning at 10:04 AM I Purchased two cans of spray paint. At 10:08 AM I realized we purchased the wrong color so we went back in the store to exchange it. We were told that due to the virus they were unable to except any returns until the virus is over. I Purchased Paint, I didn't buy groceries, perishable, plants, food. I Purchased Paint! It's a proven fact that supply stores such as Hagan Ace hardware or thriving right now and exceeding their quarterly profits by in some cases 60% as they are deemed essential. I go to Publix and purchase milk and have no problem wiping it down when I get to my house to ensure it's virus free and you're telling me they can't institute the same policy with a canna spray paint. They forgot about how many people are suffering and how many people are falling on hard times as their profits are double what they typically are. One star because there are no zeroes. My wife, who is profoundly deaf, was in this store Monday night trying to buy some plants that were not priced. There was a pleasant younger associate helping her but unsuccessfully. Another associate tried to help find the price, also unsuccessfully. This man kept jabbering at my wife knowing full well she is deaf, to the point of following her to checkout. Needless to say she was very unnerved by the man's actions. When I went to the store today, February 1st, to discuss what happened with a manager, the manager defended the man saying he was trying to communicate with my wife. Huh? Okay, no one at the store knows sign language but one does not communicate with a deaf person by yap yap yapping at them. If you do not know ASL get a piece of paper and write to the deaf person. The attempt of the manager to justify the associate's actions only served to infuriate me and I admit I left angry with the manager for very poor customer service read more

Ace is the place! Ever since I swore off the Home Depot a few years back, I've tried my best to support local hardware stores. The majority of true local stores have been killed off by the big places, so I stopped in to Ace, which is owned by, and staffed by locals. What an amazing difference in the level of friendliness and knowledge between a Home Depot and Ace. I was welcomed by three different people upon walking in, and was offered help a few different times, as opposed to the Orange Place where employees scurry away and hide. This Ace offers up LOTS of great choices in terms of power and hand tools, yard tools, paints, fertilizers, and even pet supplies. I didn't get a chance to check out the lumber selection, as I only went through a few areas, but I was thoroughly impressed with the amount of choices I had in terms of what I wanted to buy, in terms of price and quality. Obviously, the selection wasn't as big as the other place, but definitely had what I was looking for, all at competitive prices. What makes this place great, though, is the staff. It made me very happy to be welcomed into the store, and when I was looking through the tools, I had a staff member give me tips, pros and cons, and help me through choosing a certain tool I would need. The folks here know their stuff, and are willing to impart the knowledge onto you, so don't be nervous if you're not sure what you need or if you don't know what you're doing. Someone here will help you out and get you exactly what you need. Definitely my go to hardware store in St. Augustine. Great selection, great prices, and knowledgeable friendly staff- my kind of store. Will not be shopping anywhere else in the near future. read more

Ace is the place with the helpful hardware dude. Yes today was the day that Ace Hardware helped me in a big way. After searching all over St Augustine for some filled propane tanks. Ace came though with tanks galore and a filling station. I went to the big box stores and I could buy a tank but not any propane. I even had one lady ring me up and then ask if I wanted them filled. We don't do that here we just sell um. This Ace is way down the road almost out of town on the south end of US-1. The people inside were nice and wanted to help me out. read more

This is definitely the place to go to get your swimming pool working correctly. Jim who is a pool "guru" is fabulous. He has been doing pools for like 40 years and the help this novice pool owner has received is way beyond anything I could have read in a book. If your pool water is good he tell you and never tries to sell what is not needed. If you are having issues with your pool go see Jim...He will take care of you. read more

While driving towards the store to see if they had a specific plant in stock, before I took my toddler out of the vehicle, I decided to give the store a call. A lovely woman answered the phone and politely told me she needed to transfer me to the nursery. After two different people answered, only to put me on hold again, finally the second gentleman said, "maybe I can help you." I was put on hold again. After 9 minutes of holding and speaking to three different employees I was disconnected, and in the parking lot of the store by that time. I went in to look for what I needed and didn't find it. On my way out the lady that works the nursery asked if I was the one that called. I said yes, with a smile, " I was on hold for 8 min". She proceeded to jump down my throat explaining, "I WAS WITH A CUSTOMER AND WHEN YOU HAVE AN EAR PIECE IN YOUR EAR...." blah, blah, blah. I immediately smiled and said, "that's ok, thank you so much" and walked out of the store with my toddler in tow. I refuse to shop at a place where I am treated so poorly. Yes it is local and friendly, and like a lot of businesses some of what they do is good and other things much less than that. My disappointment was having two new screen doors (which I brought in new prior to installation) to be screened. I asked for grey screen and got black. I asked for flat spline and got round. An I assumed that no one could be so dense as to screen over the middle horizontal flat stiffener (which has spline channel top and bottom to separate the upper from the lower screen section). Well, was wrong. The person who does the screening left a few brain cells home that day used one contentious piece of screen right over the center divider; and when I asked the Mgr about that he told me it was easier to replace the screen if there is tear later on???? Now that is professional a smoke blowing of the highest level. To make it better the screen was very loose and had jagged remains of screen sticking out of the spline. I wound up redoing the door myself, properly; and should have done that in the first place. So if it's a screen job for your chicken coop go to ACE. If it's you home and you want it to look good, don't. read more
