Home cooking (mostly). You may have a wait but they're very upfront about the wait time and have TWO shops to explore (there are several other shops a short walk). The staff is amazing! Throwing rolls at you, bringing around the free (free with entree or you could pay and only eats the sides. They're great! Fried okra, skillet taters, black eyed peas, tomatoes with pasta and of course the rolls!! You can add a bit of molasses to those rolls too! Yummy!! I'm kind of hooked on the chicken with dumplings.... The chicken is flavorful and oh so tender and the giant slabs of dumplings are perfect!! They put all the dumplings on top and then LOTS of chicken on the bottom. Oh my and the cucumber salad is simply divine!! We've also had the pot roast... stellar!! Cannot recommend the smothered hamburger steak (comes to them premade - heat and serve style - but don't worry - there are so many other great options)! First we sat their for a bit before our server Jeremy finally came to our table to take our drink order when he finally brought us drinks he didn't come back for a very hot minutes as in 10+ confused thinking maybe that wasn't our server , than when he finally came to table he lacked the energy to even make us feel welcomed but more as if we were more of " damn another table " than when we finally got our order ( me ) ordered a Ribeye at ( market value ) * which he quoted incorrectly but I let that go because Ribeye is my absolute favorite cut of meat and two sides corn & homemade mash potatoes with dark gravy . My husband ordered Cheeseburger with extra toppings & FF ( he was told they could only cook it one way ) . When food finally came out it was prepared how I asked : BUT !!! Steak was not only cold but at 36.00 it was ( not exaggerating) just one heap of PURE FAT @ least 95% of it !!!! Now because they throw roles and pass around sides by the time I got my steak I was pretty full so this fact about the fat was only primary discovered after I went home . ( so I will be fair that if I discovered it at the restaurant to its fullest I'm sure it would have been fixed ) ... BUT this should never been plated it's the principal. Lamberts is an absolute must anytime you are in the area! It is one of the funnest and delicious places to go. We arrived about 11:30 on a Saturday and were able to get right in, but be warned, that isn't always the case. They have a line waiting inside and out any later and every day! The staff are always smiling and pleasant. The food is always hot and delicious! The first thing they are know for are the rolls...they throw them to you! Be ready to catch hot, fluffy rolls when they come out. You just raise your hands and they will throw it right to you. Then there are the pass around...amazing! Fried okra, fried potatoes and onions (favorite), macaroni and tomatoes, sorghum, apple butter, and blackeyed peas. They come around with the pass around throughout your whole meal and you can get as much as you want! Now for the main course, there are so many options. This day we got the hog jowl with white beans and sweet potatoes, the chicken wings with white beans and coleslaw, and a kids chicken tenders with fries and mashed potatoes. The portions are huge and always have left overs. It is a very busy place, lots of staff moving, but they are very good at working around and not being in anyone's way. It is a very organized chaos (in a great way)! It does get a little loud, but that is part of the experience and fun. I first went to this Lambert's location in 1994. I have so many family memories here, my heart skipped a beat pulling in the parking lot. It was time to get back to those rolls. Lambert's Café is the home of the throwed roll. These rolls are warm and absolutely melt in your mouth. The warm sorghum on the roll makes it even better. They bake hundreds and hundreds of fresh rolls each day! Lambert's make getting these rolls all part of the fun. I remember portions at Lamberts being large and they still are. If you are on a road trip make sure you have room for leftovers in your cooler. Here you order a meal and staff walk around with complimentary pass arounds that are all you can eat. I am a sucker for this fried okra and potatoes with onion. Our favorites are salads, chicken tenders, chicken wings, meatloaf, sweet potato fries and baked chicken. When in the area, my mother always requests that we make a special stop at Lambert's Cafe in the Ozark or "home of the throwed rolls". We arrived right at opening time and there was already a line of people waiting to get in on the patio outside. We were in the middle of the line but we seated promptly at a booth in the dining area. The restaurant is decorated with lots of memorabilia including signs, pictures, photos and license plates. There is lots of visual stimuli inside. The employees are dressed in costume and are extremely friendly when they interact with you. They are known for their rolls that are baked fresh and are very soft and buttery. Some interesting facts, they averaged baking 520 dozen rolls per day, for a grand total of 2,246,400 individual rolls. The best part is you call for a roll and the bread boy will throw the roll to you and you have to catch it. I always special request their apple butter because that is my favorite spread for the roll. They also bring around sorghum molasses. When you order from their massive menu, you get to experience their pass around sides where servers stop by your table and bring unlimited helpings of macaroni and tomatoes, fried potatoes and onions, fried okra and black-eyed peas. I ordered the chicken with green beans and collard greens. I asked for an au jus sauce for the chicken which they accommodated. Other people in our party ordered the chicken fried steak, one with gravy and one without with carrots, peaches, green beans and mashed potatoes. The serving sizes are humongous and with all you can eat pass around sides, you will never leave hungry. There were a lot of leftovers. Solid five stars here. It's unique with the thrown rolls and it's nostalgic with the decor but the food is absolutely delicious, portions are HUGE and service was friendly and fast! I feel like they're doing everything right here. I had the country fried steak served with two sides of my choice (candied yams and collard greens) with a generous scoop of mashed potatoes on top of the steak smothered in white gravy. I haven't had country fried steak in a long time and it was sooo good. Reminded me of my southern grandma's Sunday dinners. Hubs got the pot roast and loved it. He inhaled it with his sides. We were in Branson last week and stopped at Lambert's for dinner. A member of our group had been to Lambert's before so we had a big breakfast and skipped lunch because we knew lots of food. I ordered chicken and dumpling with green beans and sweet potatoes. Before ordering we were offered hot, fresh rolls (tossed to you or for the less adventurous handed to you) and fried okra (just put a paper towel down for them). After our food arrived we were offered additional "pass arounds" like black eyed peas, fried potatoes and macaroni and tomatoes. Did I mention a continued flow of big, hot yeast rolls? All of our food was hot, fresh and nicely seasoned and service was fast and efficient ( I can't remember the name of the young lady who served us). I liked how it was decorated. While the restaurant is over 80 years old it didn't feel old and dirty. I didn't use the restroom but my husband did and said the men's room was clean. They were warm and HUGE. Plenty of butter on the table. There were three other people walking around offering a scoop of something extra. It's a question to wonder which came first? Or should I say that CB copied off of Lambert's. That is what I'm feeling. The food here is fantastic. It's good country home cooking. I'm normally not a fan of fried okra, except for here. I could make a meal of them if I wanted to, they are very delicious. Meatloaf and burgers are great. All the sides are amazing. The roast beef a little bit salty, but hey that is ok. The drinks come in a "holy cow that is a very large drink" size. If you leave thirsty I think you did something wrong. The whole roll throwing and catching experience, is just plane fun! To add to that the rolls are delicious! Especially with honey and butter. My family just enjoys attempting to catch the rolls and chowing down on them. As for pricing the meals here are very reasonable. They totally could jack up their prices but thankfully they have not. They start with okra as a pass around... that's literally the ONLY pass around we got besides fried potatoes AFTER we finished our meal. They only brought rolls around once and the second time they passed up my son. My chicken and dumplings were ice cold, green beans were cooked into mush, carrots were bland, everything we got as a family of 5 was either cold, bland or over cooked... the only thing decent was my toddlers chicken strips. $160 dollars later we left wishing we would have went to cracker barrel instead! Lambert's Cafe is a must stop while traveling through Missouri. A girlfriend and I stopped at the location near Branson on a road trip. The line looks crazy but they got us a table in 20 minutes. We both ordered the Salmon which comes with two sides plus all the sides the servers walk around with. Food was so good! The roll throwers are entertaining with their bellowing out of their offers and mad throwing skills. Fried potatoes and okra are so yummy. (Okra is not slimy). They also have Mac and tomatoes and I am probably leaving out another side or two. You will be so stuffed when you leave. Prices are reasonable. So this was a first. We went for an anniversary celebration. The waiters were all friendly, well everyone but ours. The rolls are thrown, so keep your eyes and ears open. I saw a few people get hit. They are really gracious if you are afraid to catch. They get close and give you a little toss. My nephew loved this. The decor was very much like an old country store.it stuck to the theme. Now the disappointment.the food. The macaroni was frozen. Like the first bite was hot but the third and fourth were ice cold. They ended up taking everyone's macaroni back to reheat it. If it was an extra charge for Macaroni it wouldn't have been too big a deal. The portion sizes were big. Most sides were pass around. Growing up in MO, I never ventured down to Sikeston to Lambert's, but had always heard about it, so when the daughter and I saw the sign on our way to Branson, we had to stop. This place lived up to the legend of expectations. Dude! They REALLY DO throw rolls at you! Well, TO you, if you can catch, but in my case...AT me. This place would be amazing without the roll tossing, but that just adds to the enjoyment. We both ordered Chicken Fried Steak. It comes with mashed potatoes and two sides, at least that's what they tell you. I ordered green beans and the yams. Daughter ordered corn and a cucumber side. AND THEN...a girl came around with fried okra. AND THEN...another girl came around with fried potatoes (those were my favorite)! I almost forgot, they serve the food in a skillet! And you didn't think I would forget sweet tea, did ya? It is served in a giant jug. And just as I was winding this review up, the girl came around with blackeyed peas. Chicken livers update- if you love CL or gizards get some to go! They are outstandingly good. You will get a bit more if you order them for the table then pack them yourself vs getting them to go. First time here and what an experience! Got here on a Tuesday at 6:45pm, it was busy but there was no wait. The host was very friendly and sat me quickly. My waitress (Alyssa) was extremely helpful in providing recommendations and even brought me a couple samples of their gravy because I couldn't decide. Alyssa was super fast and attentive in her service. Their drink cups are huge! The walls are covered with cool and interesting collectibles. The rolls are awesome (especially in the white gravy). I got the Chicken Fried Round Steak, Mac & cheese, and corn bread, with a scoop of fried Okra. The steak & mashed potatoes were piping hot and delicious in the white gravy!
