I have been in here a few times and everyone has been polite and friendly on most occasions. This place is close to my home and, being a casual crocheter I was excited to find such quality yarn so close to me. Everything was going fine until recently, when I special ordered some yarn for a project I was in the middle of. I had made a crafter's major faux pas: I neglected to buy all I needed at once. Silly me thinking I had enough. The young lady behind the counter told me not to worry, she would place a special order for me. Excellent! I was thrilled, gave her my info, and left. Two weeks went by and I was surprised I hadn't been called yet. Thinking I'd better call and just check, I did. The woman I spoke with was very kind and told me that it was just order two days ago (excuse me? I had come in two weeks prior!) and not to worry she would call when it came in. Now, I don't like to bother people so I waited two and a half more weeks and called back. I mean, I figured they had forgotten about me or something. That is nuts. The person who answered the phone was very nice and had me hold as she saw my yarn was in and she wanted to be sure it was in the back for me. Of course, I held. She came back a few minutes later, apologetic. She explained that my yarn HAD come in, and she was sorry, but the owner took it for a blanket she was working on. (Huh?? I hadn't even been called!) The woman said that the person who places the yarn orders would be in the next day, and that she would be sure to have her call me so we could come to a resolution on this. I verified my phone number and AGAIN gave these people the benefit of the doubt. No one called me the next day. The following day I went down to straighten things out in person. I wasn't mad, but I wanted to finish my project and obviously the phone wasn't working for me because they hadn't called me ONE time in over a month. I saw someone I had never seen before who was definitely in a mood. I was very polite and calm but was trying to find out what was going on but she kept snapping at me and cutting me off when I tried to speak. I have never been treated with that much vitriol by someone who was supposedly running a business. Disgusting. "So, shoud I just give it another two weeks or so and just call to check on things?" I asked. "No!" Came the angry woman behind the counter. "You CAN call if you really want to, but WE will call YOU when your yarn is in." No thank you, Lamb Shoppe. You have lost yet another customer with your extreme unprofessional behavior. I will never come back. read more

I bought skeins which were less than was needed for a sweater and trusted that I could order more but found it out of stock. The owner and employees were more than generous in helping me with new yarn. The store has a beautiful selection of yarns. read more

Where can one go for a sleepover, a latte, lessons on how to knit socks, and incredible crafty people camaraderie? Mm-hmm. You know the answer. They have fantastic hours (normally yarn shops close early - not this place!) and an enormous selection of yarn. There are lots of places to sit and knit in the store and people usually take advantage of all of them. Also, I think they happen to have a superb location - 12th and Milwaukee is close to just about everything in my world. It always seems to be bustling and everyone treats each other as family. Nine times out of ten you're going to find someone to help you when you're lost. Classes are in abundance and they really strive to get involved with their clientele on a professional and personal basis, which adds a lot to the store's likability. To build on all of this, the Lamb Shoppe also has a very up-to-date website and they're involved in Ravelry, a new web community dedicated to knitters and crocheters. I couldn't give The Lamb Shoppe five stars for a few minimal reasons. One, it's a tight squeeze. There's a lot in a small space, which is good and bad. Also, when there are a lot of regulars in the store and you don't happen to be one of them, there is a tendency to be a bit overlooked, although I don't think it's intentional. A lot of people vie for Mary Carol's attention, and rightly so. All told, if you're looking for yarn, I wouldn't hesitate to send you their way. Compared to other yarn stores in the Denver metro area, I'd say this one definitely ranks near the top. read more

I remember visiting Lamb Shoppe when it was brand spanking new. Yarn stuffed into the cubbies all the way up to the ceilings. Cute buttons and notions. And coffee. How genius is it to include the coffee IN THE yarn store?!?!?! I think back then, I would have rated it with four stars. But on my most recent visit, the yarn selection was puzzling. The store SEEMED to have lots of yarn, but it didn't seem so upon closer inspection. Maybe I'd rather if they carried entire lines of some yarns, but fewer lines? However, I will be back, just because it is convenient and it seems like a cute place to hang out and knit for a bit. Tons of chairs and large tables to sit and knit for a bit. I got a living social deal here and went in the other day to sign up for a class with it. It's a cute little store with a huge selection, there are all types of yarn there, so much so that it's a little intimidating if you're new to crocheting/knitting. Several women were sitting around knitting, I think they were a daytime class. And the woman that went in ahead of me was getting some help with a piece she was working on. So I wandered around the store for a while thinking that someone would come to help me in a bit, after 10 mins or so I realized that wasn't going to happen, so I went to stand by the counter and was able to get an employee's attention. Not the best first impression ever, but I'm going to update my review after I've taken the class and see if my impression improves. read more

The Lamb Shoppe is an awesome little yarn store with a cute little knitting lounge, and it happens to be relatively close to my apartment. I'm currently taking a knitting class (my third intro class cause apparently I'm challenged) and it's finally starting to make sense! Mary Carol is a great instructor and she really takes the time to explain the reasoning behind every thing we do. The first time I went to the Lamb Shoppe was last Fall. I went in to check it out and to work on my crochet blanked. The place was closing in half and hour, but I just so happened to be there on the third Saturday of the month when they have their Pajama Jam. I stuck around and met some really cool people who gave me lots of tips on how to make my blanket better. I'd love to make it back there some time and do that again! I can sympathize with my fellow yelpers about not being helped or acknowledged. I must admit, I've never felt "unwelcome". But I have felt sort of like I was back in junior high. They have lots of repeat customers, which is definitely the sign of a successful shop. However, the regulars get helped and the conversations can sometimes drag on for a good long while before the attendant is ready to move on to the next customer. All in all, I highly recommend this shop and will definitely be back. read more

This store would get 5 stars if only it were a wee bit larger and had better parking. Oooooh the parking. I would spend hours, no days here if I could park long enough. The staff is so friendly and welcoming, all I had to do was walk around looking confused for a moment and I had offers of assistance and found the needles I was looking for. I was working on a project with stainless steel yarn that they had never heard of, so they researched it and found me the best needles for the job, you have got to love that kind of customer service. While I haven't been able to attend yet, they have a pajama jam and the Ravelry group I just joined meets up here, so I will spending WAY more time than is healthy here in the near future. It's ok though since they have a fabulous coffee selection and the snacks to go with it. If my boyfriend and I were the type of couple to get into fights, Lamb Shoppe is where I would retreat to cool down. read more

Really nice store and great location. Lots of yarns, and anything they don't have (color, brand, etc) they will probably offer to order for you. Staff is super helpful, even when super busy. Will offer ideas and substitutions for yarns and projects, and they have a huge amount of patterns on hand for reference. Didn't taste the coffee, but definitely a place I'd love to hang out in and knit and drink coffee. Also, if you have a little one, they have a little basket full of toys in the back. I truly love this place. I bought a Groupon for their Learner's Permit To Knit class with Mary Carol and I am so happy that I did. Learning to knit here was wonderful. I felt comfortable going in anytime for additional help and even the other customers jumped in to help. This place is like your local bar, people come in and hang out for a while, others just stop in to say hi. The selection of yarn in awesome and you get 20% off during your birthday. Best of all Mary Carol is the greatest teacher...she is excited about what she does and loves to share that excitement with all the people in the class. After the 4 week class I was making hats, gloves, scarfs and cowls...something I would have never imagined on day one. This place is truly a gem and if you are a knitter drop in, I think you will find it as wonderful as I do!! read more

Lambshoppe is a MUST for any knitter! The staff members are friendly as well as knowledgable. The yarn is high quality and the atmosphere is very welcoming. It isn't unusual to see people knitting and chatting; it's a friendly place! Classes are offered at various times of the day/evening for people wanting to expand their skill base. Really unpleasant staff. The selection and atmosphere of the store is nice, but every time I visit, I leave with a very sour taste in my mouth. The workers seem actively annoyed that you're simply there, and god forbid you ask a question. They are haughty, unwelcoming, and sometimes actually rude. Its like something out of Portlandia- you wonder, is this a joke? How could such prickly people run a business successfully? I've decided after a few tries that it's not worth it to give these yarn snobs my money. read more

The two stars are just for the inventory, which is good though not amazing. If I were writing a review on the case stormer service alone, it would be no stars at all. Indifferent and unfriendly service, which is what a experienced, is really upsetting, especially in a shop whose prices are higher than those online and therefore (presumably) is hoping to win local customers by having value added to their sales with exceptional customer service. I went into the shop on Thursday to buy some sock yarn and work on another project for a bit. When I entered, there were two women up front and another two in the back apparently having a lesson. I smiled at the front two women, without getting even a nod in response( and es, they were looking right at me), and went to stand at the(empty) counter to order a coffee. I stood there waiting for two or three minutes when finally the woman in the back got up and asked if I needed anything. When I said I just wanted a cup of coffee she told me 'Oh, I won't be able to help you with that, but Allison will be able to'. With this verbal nudge one of the two women I had smiled at when initially coming into the store reluctantly got up and came over. She then proceeded to tell me there was no coffee made. I asked if she could make it. She said it would take at least ten minutes. Full stop. When I said I was willing to wait, she said ' fine. Like I don't have anything better to do at the moment'. She then called out to the woman up front that she was so sorry that she was being delayed from helping her and proceeded to make the coffee. I am ashamed to say that I did not walk out at this point. I stayed and drank that coffee, even though I was angry, felt totally unwelcome and stunned by this woman's rudeness. Don't waste your money here. If they are willing to hire employees like this and not rein them in at all they do not deserve patronage from locals. read more

One of the best yarn stores I have ever been to. I was in Denver as a tourist and of course had to check out the local offerings. We stopped by here and were amazed. Everyone was super friendly and they have a huge selection of yarn, buttons, and other notions. We also learned that it was their Pajama Jam er night. One night a month they stay open late (5pm- midnight). It sounded like fun, so we decided to come back later. We were so happy to return a few hours later. Tons of people were there with their kids (many of whom were also knitting). Many wore pajamas. Everyone brought food to share. Everyone wanted to hear where we were from and what we were working on. We bought some yarn, got advice, and made friends. What a great community. This is also one of those LYSs that has a coffee shop and big tables to sit and work at. Also, even though they don't normally wind yarn during pajama jam, they wound our yarn (which was sale yarn too) because they said we were cute. Maybe it was because I was several months pregnant at the time. If you are anywhere nearby, go to this LYS. If you are in town, add it to your to do list. read more

Love this yarn shop. I took the learner's permit to knit it was a lot of fun. I have never knitted before and no one else in the class either but by the end of the first class we were knitting. You could get through 1-3 projects in the 4 weeks depending on how much time you spend on knitting. Mary Carol, the instructor, was a blast. She was very helpful and had a great sense of humor. Personally I thought that their products on sewing material has been very well for us and did not disappoint at all. The shop itself has a lot of cheap goods ready to come forth and sell for their nice people. The customer service is there and ready to help anyone who is in need. Wow! I was so fortunate to come across this gem! I goofed up my cable stitch on the car ride from Michigan and looked up a shop closest to my brother and sister in law. I didn't have much time before heading to the mountains so Whitney undid my weird cables then taught me how to do undo my cable mistakes by myself. The best teachers make you try things yourself and coach you along and that was exactly what she did! She even let me borrow a pair of cheaters because I left my glasses back at the house. To put the icing on the cake she gave me a GORGEOUS cowl pattern she had created. I offered to pay her for her time but she cheerily refused- Just happy to help. Thanks, Whitney! I love this place! I'm brand new to knitting and took an intro class that ran 4 weeks long. During that, I knitted a scarf, hat, and am starting on a blanket. I had no idea I'd be doing all of that! Mary Carol was our class' instructor and she did a fantastic job introducing us all to the basics. Whenever I needed a little extra help, she encouraged me to stop by the shop any time. I took her up on the offer and was helped each time by whoever was manning the store, including Mary Carol. I would highly recommend taking one of these classes. As for the shop, I think the staff is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. There is a huge selection of yarn and needles so their help was welcomed. It's a warm atmosphere inside and it includes a little coffee shop. Folks can sit around and knit there, so it has a good vibe. I will definitely be back for more supplies and classes! read more

First I need to say the Purl Soho is my home yarn store, so the size of this store was overwhelming, though I noticed another reviewer saying it was too small!! Theres sooooo muh stuff in it! This, of course, is awesome! They had lots of nice display items, a great selection of patterns and yarn, and yarn and yarn...more yarn that I've ever seen.... I spent a lot of time browsing and really enjoyed myself. The only drawbacks about Lamb Shoppe are: 1) I couldnt tell how the yarns were organized which made shopping without assistance difficult and 2) When I wanted help it was hard to tell who worked there and who was just hanging out! I ended up asking the girl at the register for help, even though it made more sense to ask somebody who was out on the floor. She didnt seem to mind at all though and was very very helpful (Thanks!). I walked out with a book of patterns and 9 skeins of (beautiful!) yarn. X-mas money well spent! read more

I love Lamb Shoppe! It's a great neighborhood location and the staff is friendly and always willing to help. I don't get that vibe in other yarn stores in Denver. I've taken 3 classes at Lamb Shoppe with Mary Carroll. She taught me how to knit through the learners permit to knit class a few years ago. I left that class feeling confident enough to make easy projects like hats, scarves and baby blankets. A few months ago I decided I wanted to start taking more classes to build my knitting skills. I signed up and have completed the top down baby sweater and fetching gloves class both taught by Mary Carroll. Mary Carroll is an excellent teacher! She explains the pattern and has helped transfer knitting lingo into real world terms. The best part, if you are working in your knitting project and get stuck you don't have to wait until your next class. Just pop into the store and someone will help you. Lamb Shoppe is a great yarn store. They have a nice selection of yarn, needles and notions. Cozy chairs to hang out and knit in, and you can grab a cup of coffee or tea while you are there. If you are new to knitting, go to Lamb Shoppe and take a class. If you are an experienced knitter stop by and check the place out! read more

I love this place. I love the area of Denver in which it's located. I love the people who own it. I love a lot of the people that go knit there. I love the yarn. I love that they have very high end and low end yarns. I love the library-esque feel of the ladders and shelves. I love that they have a million samples everywhere. I love the coffee. I love Pajama Jam. I love the ice cream place next door to it. Everything about this place is great. I've never had any problem with any of the people who work at the shop. I always stop into the Lamb Shoppe when I am in the downtown area. The ladies who run this place are adorable and so helpful! I like to peruse all of the beautiful yarns for a while before settling on my choice. The selection at The Lamb Shoppe is astounding. It's my go-to shop whenever I can justify a trip over there. I have found a great inventory of needles - even some obscure tips for my Addi Click interchangeable double pointed needles. I have gotten plenty of help when I need it - even extended color consultations from the artistic staff. I do agree that the staff are often engaged in lengthy conversations when I might wish to just check out and be on my way. It's difficult to just pop in and out, but very pleasant when you can stay a way to knit and chat. I love that they are open 'til 9 four nights, and host fun events like the monthly pajama jam. read more

Save your money and go somewhere else! I gave them two stars because their yarn is beautiful. But, Sandy and her class is terrible! I called, I specifically asked if I could bring my own supplies and was told yes or I could use some extra's they had. So on the first day of class I was told to pick out a light colored yarn. I picked out a mint green thinking I was just using it for the class. Something I would normally never select, I just thought the color would work to see errors. Then it was spun. Then I was told it was mine. Confused, but I choose to roll with it. The class was ok, as long as you don't mind being shammed by Sandy. She is loud, abrasive and only allows conversation as long as it is about her. The next class I brought my own materials. Big mistake. Sandy went on for four minutes about how I needed to buy their yarn, it was all over their website, blah, blah, blah. They could not afford to do the class if people brought their own materials. (A little math to help them.... 7 people x 70 a class/5.25 of instruction time = $93 an hour. Minus maybe $20 an hour for her = $73 an hour to the store's operating cost. A nice attitude that makes you want to come back and customer loyalty = $383 + a lot more money for many years to come.) I finally had to "oh honey" her to just get her to shut up. But then the rest of the class I had to hear passive aggressive remarks. And all about her. I said something about going to the theater that night and she joked if I had extra tickets. Than launched into how she only goes if she has great seats, such as 10th row in the center. I just wanted to respond, did you ask about my seats so you can talk about your hook up? Good for you, now please get a life. In the end the Lamb Shoppe will get my $70 for the class, $22 in supplies and me never going back. Maybe next time they should treat their customers with gratitude and kindness. Just a thought. read more

I'm writing this for my sister-in-law who is a wondrous and huge knitter. She's a knitting machine who is always looking to visit knitting and yarn shops wherever she travels. She's been here twice. And twice she has had similar experiences. Others have mentioned in their reviews the private click/club like atmosphere of the 'regulars'. I guess this place gives lessons etc...the point being they are not very welcoming to newbies. I don't think she will go there again because of this attitude (very un-Denver like) and unfriendly service. She was surprised. read more

I'm a little surprised by all the 5-star reviews here. After visiting a few times, there are two major things that drive me nuts about this place: 1. It's a mess. The yarn isn't categorized in ANY way that makes sense--fiber, brand, weight, anything--and it's difficult/impossible to find what I'm looking for easily. There are random skeins all over the place as well, and I hate the hostile stares from the group at the big table when I'm trying to take a look at the shelves behind them. 2. I'd forgive no.1 though, if anyone who worked there was actually paying attention to the customers and could help me find what I'm looking for. But no! I went in yesterday and poked around for about 45 minutes. At NO point in that time did anyone acknowledge me or ask if I needed help. I felt totally invisible, which is pretty much the opposite of what a retailer's goal should be, no? When I finally did figure out who was actually working, those people were too tied up in making coffee/chatting/god knows what else to notice a customer standing there, trying to ask some questions. I was hovering, trying to make eye contact, the works, but NOTHING. Studiously ignored. When I finally found what I was looking for, I stood in "line" for another ten/fifteen minutes (no joke. I would have walked out, but I'm on a deadline and need to finish this project) behind a customer who ordered coffee, then needed pattern help, then decided she wanted a different yarn. The woman behind the counter was very patient with her, but at no point indicated that she realized I was waiting to check out. I guess it's this utter obliviousness to customers that drives me nuts and makes me unwilling to ever come back again. Sorry, Lamb Shoppe, there are other places in Denver to buy yarn. read more

I've been sitting on this for a few days, wondering if maybe I did something wrong. I started work a few doors down and popped over during my lunch to check out the yarn store that's been calling to me since I first drove up. My heart was already so full with the idea of being able to head to a yarn shop and join in after work or on my lunch! Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. Tiny inside with chairs and tables all over the place, making it difficult to move around. No real indication of which yarns were stored where. Hiked up price tags on several brands (in comparison to other shops in town). The worst part was how utterly unwelcoming the staff were. No greeting, not even a glance my way. When someone eventually asked what I needed, she just kind of rolled her eyes and smirked when I said I was just checking the place out. I shrugged that off and tried to chat with her about some of the yarn, but she kept rolling her eyes and smirking. I was about to buy some $12/skeins, but the nasty attitude somehow magically cemented those skeins to their cubbies. I'm really disappointed, and I guess I'll stick with Wooden Spools for my yarn needs. read more

I have been in this shop twice in the past year when visiting my family in CO. While I think it is a lovely shop, with a great selection - neither time was I greeted very warmly by anyone in the shop and this time, when I was in there with my SIL who is NOT a knitter but whom I promised to knit a hat for if she picked out and bought the yarn - we both felt the person who sold us the yarn was not friendly - bordering on rude. Insisting on receiving a phone number or email to check someone out is terrible retail practice, and instead, a customer should be ASKED if they want to be added to a sales database and email list. Both times I visited there was large group of knitters sitting at a table working on projects and chatting with each other - standard for a yarn shop - so I am sure if you regularly shop there it is lovely - but the impression on a visitor is not great - and IF my SIL was inclined to pick up knitting again - this visit turned her off. When we went back to my mother's house - one of my sisters and my mother both said they had a similar experience when they went in. As a knitter and someone who teaches knitting and strongly encourages others to pick up this wonderful craft it is always disapointing to go into a store that seems to cater only to the regulars or people who obivously know what they are looking for and don't need much assistance. I always wonder how many novice or uncertain knitters don't pursue knitting after I have an experience like this visit. read more

My esteem for this shop has dropped steadily over the years since they opened, and my last visit convinced me that if I can't find it at Fancy Tiger, Fabric Bliss or online, I still won't go back. Rude, seriously rude, saleswomen probably clinched the deal, but when I walked in this last time I was immediately struck by what a chaotic mess it's become. I snaked my way around chairs, tables, and displays to get to the shelves, tried in vain to avoid stepping on wayward balls of yarn on the floor, and had to pick through piles of unshelved yarn in search of enough yarn in the type and dyelot I needed. Forget asking for help - rude saleswomen do not have time for questions: they're too busy not checking customers out. Where I once described it as the best store in town, it's visually and aesthetically on the skids and a customer service nightmare. Wake up, Mary Carol! read more

Worst attitudes I've ever experienced in a yarn shop. Acted as if we were inconveniencing them by asking questions and assumed we knew where everything was in the store. We had never been, and came to help a friend who was excited to learn how to knit. They should have seen a future knitting enthusiast who had the potential to spend lots of money there in the future, but instead we were virtually ignored. We watched a woman stand at the counter for at least 5 minutes while the two women working there sat at their respective tables talking to people knitting. Very nice selection of yarn, but we probably won't be visiting there anytime soon based on the poor experience we had. read more

I'm updating because I went back recently to use my birthday discount (ahem, it's only on yarn, by the way... I went to buy a pattern). It was a typical Lamb Shoppe experience -- you walk in and it's chaos -- it's almost impossible to get to the bookshelf; I had to make a circuitous route PAST the books and around some racks of yarn, back to the stairs and under a display to get to the pattern books... there was no way for me to get there directly. So I get the pattern and decide I'm going to, for once, use the recommended yarn... only they don't sell the yarn. Not Lamb Shoppe's fault -- nobody in the Denver area sells it -- it's just not that popular. Again, not a big deal. But then I went to pay. Yes, I was disappointed that they don't extend the birthday discount towards paper purchases, but that's OK. If that's their policy, I respect it -- they're one of the only stores in Denver who offer any kind of loyalty discount, so I'll take my lumps. My issue is that it always takes forever to check out. Seriously. There was one person in front of me in the middle of paying, so I thought I had lucked out and I'd get out of there pretty fast. I was wrong. The cashier got distracted by another employee who was winding yarn, but had a question about something else... and then the cashier couldn't find a pen so the gentleman checking out in front of me could sign his charge slip... it was insane. I'm lucky, however, the person in front of me didn't decide to order a coffee because that's what usually happens when I'm there -- I'm set to check out and get out and am held up by coffee. I really want to love the Lamb Shoppe, but I don't. I go there when I need something I can't get elsewhere and it's in a lovely neighborhood and the yarn offerings are nice, but the hassle of dealing with making a purchase puts me off. read more

The store is really cute! I pictured it differently, but I still liked it. My only issue is that I walked around looking for a certain brand of yarn for a bit and no one offered any help. There were a few older women there but I wasnt sure who worked there and who was just hanging out knitting. I should have asked, but still I was looking for yarn. A friend and I took a knitting class here. When we went to register for our original intended date, the shop informed us that classes were no long offered on that date, even though it was on the web site. It sounded like they had to change their schedules around because of a GroupOn promotion. The shop is cute and feels warm with the large communal tables and chairs. Plus, there is also a coffee shop in the shop. It felt like a last minute scramble to find everything needed for the class because the store was not very well organized. During the class, the teacher's grandchildren were selling girl scout cookies. The kids were poorly behaved and were running all over the shop screaming, and this made it difficult to hear what the teacher was saying. The teacher was a seasoned knitter and moved fast. I think a smaller size class would be better for people just learning to knit. I went back the next day for help, and a different teacher was there. I found her to be way more helpful than the original teacher. That said, my verdict is mixed on the classes. The yarn also seems to be more on the expensive side; I found the same yarn at another place for $6 cheaper per skein. read more

I find it frustrating that, in reading reviews, they run so hot and cold! Which do you believe??? I live in Arvada and the two yarn shops nearest to me have closed (Shower of Flowers and Recycled Lamb.) I am a beginning knitter and wanted to start making Knitted Knockers. They (Knitted Knockers) require specific yarns so I made the trek to the Lamb Shoppe, had a pleasant customer service experience, and left for home to teach myself how to knit with smaller yarn and smaller double-pointed needles. That effort didn't turn out so well so I called the Lamb Shoppe to ask about a tutoring session. After a week, I hadn't heard from anyone so called back. Whitney apologized that I hadn't received a return call and we scheduled a tutoring session for a few days later. I met with Whitney and she was incredibly supportive, helpful and pleasant. Even though the shop is so far away from my house (it took me an hour to get home after tutoring session) I do think I will start going to the shop to knit and kibitz with other knitters - I'll update this review after a few visits. read more
