My friend recommended this shop for its unlimited range of high quality quilt fabrics, supplies, and stitching accessories. The prices were typical found in other shops. I brought the 4 seasons of the In The Rockies kits for $32 each. Not included were the backing fabric, batting, and binding. I got home and when reading the directions, I got confused since I never dealt with Quiltsmart Grid fusible. I called the shop to ask for a private lesson scheduled for the next day. When I went in, I felt that I was bothering them even though there was no customers. The woman who offered to help me only gave me 5-10 minutes of her time at no charge and acted like I should know how to use the grid. (The grid was a game changer and so easy to use). I was annoyed that I had driven all the way there only for her to advise me to go to the Quiltsmart website to get directions; which I did and it was very helpful. I will definitely go back because there aren't that many quilt shops in my area but I've learned to just figure directions on my own (I'm self taught). read more

I was very excited to find a new fabric source in my area and was recommended to this place. Unfortunately, when I walked in, one of the ladies up front just stared at me and then almost walked right past me before asking if I needed anything. The entire vibe feels elitist and uncomfortable. I looked around for pricing, and while I may have been looking right at it, did not want to ask since it felt like I'd be treated as if I was stupid. Fabric selection was very good and displayed in an appealing way. It seemed today the store was cluttered and a bit disorganized but perhaps they were in a reorganizing mode. I have purchased 3 Elna machines from The Creative Needle over the last few years. I have always been very happy with how professional the staff is with regards to questions. They offered a free class for the first two machines to learn how to service and maintain them. *Maintenance is key or it may not work right for long.* For the last machine (purchased during the COVID-19 pandemic) my wife had a one on one lesson for nearly 2 hours. She was thrilled! As more questions have come up the longer she has used each machine, the employees there have been more than happy to work with her and answer questions. Per one of the other reviews, I cannot understand how someone would buy a machine, use it for 6 months, hate it the whole time, and expect a full refund. Try doing that with a new car and see how far you get! Common sense is not so common... Incidentally, my wife DID have to confirm her phone number (already on file) when she purchased her latest machine. You'll never guess what happened: Nothing. No telemarketers or spam calls as a result! read more

To be honest, it's not a shop I visit often. It's about 30 minutes from my home. I do like to support small business and do so whenever I can. My last visit, I found the shop disorganized. I was pointed to the shop by a supplier. Although I was asked if I needed help, when I asked for specific help, looking for a product, I was told some very basic information and I felt I was on my own. I browsed the shop, I had taken the time to drive all the way, found something I could use, only to be told there was a minimum charge of $10 if I used my debit card. If you are buying fabric, or a quilt pattern, you might be in luck. Anything else, don't bother. And bring cash. read more

This quilt store has lots of patterns, fabrics, and everything that you need to make beautiful quilts. As you can see some samples of their patterns in the work pictured for the store. They have lots of patterns for different columbines which are the state flower for Colorado and a flower that I think is intricate and delicate. I would give them 5 stars for quilting supplies. I can only give them three stars for customer focus. I do not understand why the owner does not enjoy running the store more and share her obvious passion more. We watched three people walk into the store so we thought it was open, but when we walked in we were told that they were not open for five more minutes. We were allowed to shop since we were in, but it did not give me warm fuzzies. Other staff was better, and the lady working back in the fabrics section knew where everything was and was very helpful to us. It's been a long time, ok, a very long time, say 30 years, since I have done any cross stitching, and my fingers were itching to get back at it. I asked my sister of any places nearby (from where we were at the time), and she suggested Creative Needle. I am so glad she suggested the Creative Needle. I walked in and immediately felt welcomed. The shop is small, quaint, and has everything you could need to do quilting or needle work. I walked around the small shop first, and just looked at everything. My mind was thinking, "If I started doing this, I could purchase that and that..." you get what I mean. I found the cross stitch kit section, and started looking through all of their kits. I finally settled on one of them. I then turned the corner and found an embroidery hoop that would work. I purchased what I needed at the counter. Parking is free here, as the store is located in a large "L" shaped shopping area. The prices are comparable to other craft type shops, but at the Creative Needle, they also offer classes, and will answer your questions as well. While there, the phone rang 2-3 times, and the staff promptly answered questions, giving thorough answers, over the telephone. Excellent customer service. I read that they were asking for phone numbers as a Covid issue..I was ask for my number well before Covid issue They advertise through PBS..I think of them often but after several visits and rude treatment I will not go back..To bad, I have several holiday projects to get underway..I didn't have the card problem as I spent more but have heard other people complain about the $10 min. policy. read more

This shop was very disorganized and not too friendly when I visited in September. It may have been that they were overly busy collecting and sending quilts to the victims of the hurricanes, however the shop looked dirty, like they needed to dust and organize really badly. I was disappointed as this shop sponsors some programs I public television that I enjoy watching, however I was not very impressed with the friendliness or welcoming attitude of the store. They do have a petty good selection of quilting fabrics as as embroidery supplies. It was supremely difficult to see the stock and as I mentioned previously, it was dusty and looked old. I will visit in the future and hope that my first visit was not representative of the shop. Will update if the experience we better. read more

Not a friendly place at all. Staffed by some fairly grumpy ladies who aren't helpful and aren't very interested in assisting a beginning sewer. Lots of attitude from the staff if you didn't purchase your machine in-store. Also - the selection isn't the best; lots of 1990s-era calico and vest kits that look like something your Aunt Sally from Iowa would make for your Christmas gift. VERY dated, frumpy material in stock. I'd rather go a few miles up Broadway to Fancy Tiger or some other place with less attitude and a fresher youngervibe. read more

As a totally beginning quilter I made the mistake of trying to make my own quilt pattern. I completed most of the project, but needed some advice on how to add a few inches to make it the proper size for my daughters bed. The ladies here spent about 30 mins giving me tips, and helping me pick the right fabric. Never made me feel bad that my beginners project is less than perfect. Mid way through quilting it my OLD OLD machine died. They were very patient with me as I came in several times to look at machines and ended up selling me a great used machine. I can't wait to go take the free class that comes with my purchase. I wish they carried more pre cut fabrics, but I will hair have to settle for learning to be a precise cutter So glad to have found this place. read more

I'm not sure what happened with the other reviewers, but my experience has been totally positive. Maybe there is new staff? The employee I spoke with was friendly and knowledgeable. I appreciate the measures they are taking regarding Covid-19 too. This store is run by an elderly woman who apparently does not believe in customer service. The woman asked for my phone number when making a purchase and when I said I wasn't comfortable with that, she refused to ring up the sale. Said I had to give her a phone number in order for her to ring it up. That is my private information and a business does not have the right to insist that a customer provide such information! Went to Joann's Fabric to make my purchases instead, where they were happy to take my money without even asking for a phone number. read more

Visited this shop during shop hop weekend for the first time, so I am sure that it was a bit more hectic than usual. However, the place is quite a mess. They have tons of stuff packed in there---in some ways this is good. I think they must have every notion on the market. But in other ways it was too cluttered. Their fabric selection is very dreary and dated unless you favor batiks. It sort of seems like the store suffers an identity crisis--stitcher or quilter or embroiderer. read more

Snob-a-torium. I went in to find a quilting accessory and I brought my 1 year old daughter with me (who is very well behaved, just a bit curious). Got attitude from both ladies who 'helped' me. As if my daughter was going to destroy their entire store. Got what I needed, but won't be returning. Also, they don't have a very good selection of fabric, unless you need a batik in every color. If you're in the neighborhood and need something it might be worth it, but it's not worth a destination trip. And don't bring your kids with you, or they'll watch you like a hawk until you're so uncomfortable you leave. read more

I bought a new machine and could not be more pleased. Included in the price of the machine were 3 classes called "Sewing Machine Obedience". I've sewed for years on a 'basic' machine, but recently started sewing quilts again, and I can honestly say that I learned a great deal about my new machine and all that a computer machine is capable of. I enjoyed all 3 classes and have signed up for an additional class and more classes on my wish list. Marge is a patient teacher and extremely knowledgeable. The obedience class is a great place to start even if you've had your machine for a few years. read more

Beautiful, well stocked store with the worst customer service I've ever encountered in a quilt store - specifically, the owner! I've visited this store 3 times over the past 5 years and each time I've have a bad experience. Each time I return, I hope the store has either changed hands or the owner learned manners -nope. I don't know what makes her such an unhappy, arrogant and condescending person, but with so many other choices of quilt stores in this area, I won't be back, nor will I recommend it to my friends or students. read more

I've been coming here for some time. I both cross-stitch and quilt and while they have more for quilting/sewing and less for the cross-stitch, they do carry the full line of DMC floss and have both kits and charts for the cross-stitch. I've never had issues with asking questions or finding what I want. Granted, it's not the biggest place, so selection of fabric is a little bit limited, but it has a goodly selection for the space, along with some precut fabric as well. For me, it's worth the 35-40 minute trip from Castle Rock. read more

I have sought assistance and products from the staff at Creative Needle for over 1 year now and have never been disappointed. I am so grateful for their patient support as although I used to sew, I have been away from this craft for many years. Now that I am retired I unpacked my 40+ year old machine and they have helped me update my skills and make the best use of my machine. This has been so fun and satisfying. When I have a question or need supplies I always turn to Creative Needle even though it is quite a distance from my home.
