Dr. Lamar performed a cholecystectomy on my mother and I have nothing but great remarks to say about him. My mother has been dealing with pain in her stomach for multiple years and it got to a point where we had to send her into the ER and thankfully Dr. Lamar was able to perform surgery on her. Not only did he do an amazing job on the surgery, his staff members and himself were super friendly and took such good care of my mother. Dr. Lamar addressed all the concerns I had and he even removed all the staples and drain himself!!! Which was so nice as I was able to converse with him about anything my mom should be cautious of. So I showed up at Methodist Hospital about 8am on a Tuesday morning with several gallbladder pain. Suffice it to say it was the worst pain I have ever had. It was bad enough that they put me on morphine in the ER and gave me a sonogram to check out what was happening. Well 2 almost 1" gallstones blocking the bile tubes were the problem. As I didn't have to have my gallbladder removed right there on the spot, I was given several referrals and the most highly recommended was Doctor Lamar. I was able to obtain an appointment with him for the following afternoon. He saw the state that I was in and the sonogram results etc. He then suggest immediate surgery, which I knew was immanent. So that was scheduled for first thing on Friday morning 2 days hence. I was rather apprehensive as this was my first surgery ever (not considering dental work surgery though). Dr Lamar was great reported how everything went and was able to perform my outpatient surgery in the facility that his office is in. His surgery was performed lathoscopicly and that aided in my swift recovery. I was shut in for most of that weekend, then Monday morning I started to venture out and stopped taking my pain meds. Tuesday morning, I asked to be released back to work and was given the go ahead. Wednesday morning I was back at my desk slaving away for the Man. At my follow up appointment a week later, everything was healing properly and I was given a release to get back to whatever. about 3 weeks later now, I am feeling pretty dayem good and can do almost anything that I had been before; hiking, cardio machines (elliptical) etc. Needless to say, this has been a trying process but Dr Lamar was solid in his skills and abilities. I am very happy to have had him as my surgeon as my gallbladder was not only filled with stones but diseased. Consequently his swift removal of it, kept me from going into a potential life/death situation if it had burst. Thank you very much Dr Lamar! I had my gastric bypass done by Dr.Lamar on 2/1/12 and at that time I weighed in at 300 lbs & today I am 125 lbs. As far as weight loss goes the surgery was a 110% success! The first 6 months I had many complications (none of which were my Dr's fault or mine really, I was just unlucky) some of which were- I had to have my gallbladder out, internal hernia repair, hospitalized with uncontrolled nausea/vomiting (multiple times), gastric ulcers so bad I had a PICC line in for 6 weeks for protonix, fluid, and TPN... Through it all Dr. Lamar and Dr. Doraiswamy were both by my side. They were there for every ER visit and every hospital stay. Even when they did not have the answers they were there to encourage me. At one point I was so sick I was thinking of having it reversed (a major surgery) and Dr. D gave me a pep talk about how it could all turn around as fast as it started and he was right! At the 6 month mark everything improved & no more hospitalizations! Fast forward about 8-10 months & I am having really bad stomach issues with ulcers possibly back. Our insurance changed & Dr. Lamar is no longer in my network & I recently got a new gastric Dr but my plan is UCLA & when I ended up in my local Arcadia ER with severe stomach pain nausea/vomiting dehydration I mentioned Dr.Lamar had performed my surgery & he came through once again advising them on giving me a CT & when he did not like the results he made sure I had follow up plans with my new group and even said if there were any issues he would make sure I got the further testing I needed. If you want a team that is going to be there for you through thick & thin then Dr. Lamar & his partners are right for you! They don't forget about you as soon as they are done cutting and both have very warm and caring bedside manners. read more

My hepatologist referred me to dr. Troy Lamar because he found lipoma in my stomach. Today I came to see him and was totally disappointed. He said the bump under my rib cage was not lipoma but another rib cage. How is that possible? Do I have an extra rib cage? I am not a doctor but I don't want to get fooled like that. The ultrasound technician already told me that I had a mass that's growing. My hepatologist said it was lipoma, but dr. Lamar said that it an extra rib cage and was inflamed. Is this a joke? But the outpatient hernia operation I had there left me with an intestinal infection and an incisional hernia 2 months later. Easy peasey. My doctor found gallstones after a sonogram, (I was having pains). I went to the office and Dr Lamar recommended surgery. A few days later I went into the surgery center on the first floor of his building and had my gallbladder removed. I went home a couple of hours later. Didn't take the pain pills because after reading up on side effects decided to forgo them. Two weeks later all healed up and my after visit with the doctor went off without a hitch. If I could I would give it no stars It started last year when I needed a hernia surgery ,I was scheduled last December I had a mesh put in ,12 days later when the staples were removed my stomach split open 24 inches it was so bad a few weeks later I needed a wound vac , I kept saying I wasn't feeling good 3 weeks later I had surgery number 2 cause it was infected,I was seeing dr Lamar every few weeks ,still not feeling great I kept saying what's going on and he would say it was a very big surgery I also complained that there was a order his response was take at least 2 showers a day come February yes surgery number 3,continue to see dr Lamar every few weeks then once a month but mind you I still have a open wound when I asked him about it he said it might never close wtf a hole for life I went to my primary crying telling him all of this and he sent me for a second opinion and guess what the mesh was infected and needed to be removed the beginning of December one year later this new surgeon is also in Arcadia and omg what a difference right away he sent me for a scan I can't believe with all of dr Lamar's experience he couldn't do this ,it just sadness me cause I was going to dr Lamar since he started his practice,I think he's a very nice person a good surgeon but the after care sucks I feel he lost his compassion and maybe he is just overloaded but the only great think that happened was I found a great surgeon and one I highly recommend it's Doctor Doraiswamy in Arcadia you won't be disappointed At this point Dr D saved me no more open wound and problem solved read more

Epic fail and his staff shows their prejudices after. If you have any problems after surgery, I assure you that you will be to blame. Even if you are following their guidelines. Lost about 60 pounds, im always hungery and I believe that Weight Watchers or gastric sleeve is a way better decisions. Apparently La Mar has a lower weight loss with his patients because he does not bypass enough of the intestins. That was another patients theory who happens to be a OR nurse that I happened to meet. Makes sense to me. After any problems with me, i really have been forgotten about. Until now when I received a invite to their reunion. I think I will pass. Oh and by the way, if you do decide to have hom as your doctor just note how close his diet it to Atkins. If Atkins worked for me, I wouldn't have needed surgery. read more

Well I am not sure why more people don't yelp this doctor. Dr. Lamar saved me. I was experiencing major Right Lower abdominal pain all night, I was vomiting, and I was worried about going to the hospital and having to stay in the E.R. forever, I didn't want to go. Unfortunately I ended up in the E.R. Dr. Lamar was called in, and right away he ordered Ct Scan and had already set me up for admittance with emergency surgery scheduled for the morning. The Ct scan showed a mass in the lower area. He told me the results and we moved forward with surgery. He was so patient and made me feel comfortable, I felt safe, I knew I was in good hands. He even spoke with my parents. Surgery was successful and an ovarian torsion was my diagnosis, he even took pictures to show me what he found. He also had his partner Dr. Pehrsson come out and speak to my entire family who took over the waiting room. Had to say I had my Gastric by him in 2010. He did a great job but about a week after i got very sick showed up crying in pain,dry heaving had been like that for 5 days explained to him I couldn't drink not even water. Was told it was all in my head and left with a bag dry heaving and crying. 2 days past and still continuing to happen and this point I was very very sick I was even hallucinating. Showed up once again and was told once again it was all in my head. I left again crying. I did a lot of researching hoping someone can help me and i did i found. DR. K he is the BEST. i was admitted and almost had a heart attack because my potassium was so low. I was dehydrated along with many other problems but nothing due to bad surgery just my body trying to adapt. So as far as his surgery i am 5 years out and no complications lost 134 lbs and have not gained but as far as his bed side manners horrible make you feel like an idiot when I knew something was wrong. read more
