Due to a job change our insurance was running out and once approved Lisa the scheduler got me in asap. Same situation with my other knee 6 weeks later with the exception of it needing replaced instead of revised. Got me in and done in a couple weeks. I came in to go over my options after injuring my right knee in a fall a few years ago. The injury caused a meniscus tear, and I haven't been able to fully straighten my knee since then. However, I had limited knee pain and no difficulty walking; the main issue was painful compensation on my left side. He outlined several treatment options, but the conversation seemed to focus on dismissing alternatives in favor of a total knee replacement which felt far too aggressive at this stage. It came across more like a sales pitch than a recommendation based on my best interests. There is no patient portal, nothing digitized, no texts, nothing. I personally find these features immensely helpful in understanding and organizing my ongoing treatment. Seems outdated since I don't think I have any providers without a portal these days. The few pages of pre-surgery information they sent me by mail seemed painfully inadequate. When I made the initial appt, they told me they accept Blue Shield PPO, but when I looked at the claim in the BS portal yesterday I noticed they were out of network. When I called to ask about it, I was told I should have asked or looked into it on my own, but I very rarely ever run into providers who aren't in network so I didn't think of it. So I guess that's on me. Maybe I'm being picky, but I feel that is a point worth mentioning especially when considering the huge expense of major surgery. Some of the portals that I mentioned above also let you know your insurance summary *before* the appt. To be fair, he was easy to talk to, listened to my concerns, and did not rush through the appointment. Clearly he has helped a lot of people so he's doing something right. The doctor may be an excellent surgeon and he is engaging when he is in the mood to speak with you. He's a busy person so he might not have time to engage you in conversation. He is human, so he's entitled to be moody like we all are, this review has nothing to do with the doctor, but entirely his front office ; but I have to say that his front office has discouraged me from returning the best way that I can describe them as haughty dismissive and somewhat a sense of entitlement. And they do not have a kind demeanor in their bones. This is the reason I have decided not to come back to the office unfortunately, this can really hurt a doctor's practice. I do not tolerate rudeness from a front office doctors office if you don't like what you're doing or you don't like patients then don't work as a front office person. Also, the front office lobby is frozen in 1970 with carpet being so disgustingly dirty; it could easily be washed or replaced a few dollars go a long way to make your office look tidy, especially a medical office. It should be tidy and clean. But nobody likes to arrive at an office where you're not even greeted with the good afternoon or good morning or opening the window wide enough to be seen or acknowledged. They act like they are mind readers and you're just an annoyance so sorry doctor for not coming back to your office But the women in your office are unbearable. Worst doctor ever (Baumgarten)...the way he spoke to me was beyond unprofessional, he stated he's a republican and doesn't care if I have surgery or not and if he were to be a democrat then he would be sympathetic and ask me if I'm ok. I cannot believe I have not put a recommendation here for Dr. Mo - I broke both 5th metatarsals. I went to one guy who put a screw in my foot and I felt pain FOREVER. I could feel the screw coming out of my foot. I didn't go back to that man. I was referred to Dr. Mo by SO MANY PEOPLE. I went and he said we should take the screw out and put me in a walking boot for 3 months. About a year later, I broke the OTHER left metatarsal. He said "either way there is 50/50 it will heal even with surgery. He put me in another walking boot (which was great cause all my left shoes were already worn down so I could use the right ones! Not only did he NOT recommend surgery I would not need, but then once at my son's high school he broke BOTH his arms at the same time doing "Back running". As I picked him up from school I immediately called Dr. Mo. They said "He's in surgery right now" ... I said "WHERE"??? They told me Arcadia Methodist so I said please call them, I'm driving him to the emergency room right now. Without a heartbeat he met us in the lobby and reset both of my son's arms. Cast him up and 5-6 weeks later he was done. He doesn't have any pain and never had to go back, see anyone else. I also have a great back surgeon who has a great practice, but for LIMBS... nowhere to go but Dr. Mo. He is amazingly funny, totally truthful. Baumgarten is the Surgeon around! He first did my foot which I had some mass that was causing pain on top of a bunion. While he was in surgery, he noticed a problem with my sesamoid bone, so he fixed that also even though it was not in the surgery plans. I suffered minor pain for 30 years driving Manual Transmission car and fixing the sesamoid cured my Pain when driving long distances and now I can vacation like I wanted to 30 years ago, going out to Palm Springs and doing my favorite hobbies, or having a good time down at the Beach! I went to see him because right knee kept swelling up on the side of the kneecap, creating discomfort. I had seen another Surgeon previously and that surgeon said there was no way to fix the fluid leaking without creating another problem with the knee which could cause premature knee replacement surgery. So I go to Baumgarten and he had a totally different perspective and said he will do surgery to remove a leaking Bursa. Also, he was super nice to order an MRI of the knee to see what else might need fixing while he opens the knee up. Sure enough that MRI revealed a minor tear in the Meniscus so am going to get that fixed at the same time. And where the Meniscus was torn, I had some discomfort for 20 years and Baumgarten is the first of 5 Surgeons to identify the cause of that pain. Often I heard Scar Tissue as reason from other doctors. His office is rather busy as he has a lot of patients, but I really like how he will spend quality time with you in the office. read more

When I knew knee replacement surgery was inevitable, I spoke to a number of people who work in the OR at Methodist Hospital about who they thought was the best. Every single one that I talked to recommended Dr Baumgarten, so that was a no brainer. I couldn't be happier with him or his staff, they're very accommodating, professional and use the latest techniques. Rarely is one of patients stapled, meaning that you can shower immediately and you don't have to have them removed, and you get a cleaner looking scar. He is the best Dr. I have ever had to deal with, and the staff follows suit. Yes, they are always busy but they make time to ensure that their all clients questions are answered and they are taken care of. I am 43 and had to have a total knee replacement, and I couldn't ask for better care. After the surgery the staff made sure that everything was going according to plan. If I needed to get in for any reason they would squeeze me in ASAP. As for my knee, it feels better than it has since I was 17. This arrogant man did a surgery on me knowing that you can't get a lawyer to do medical malpractice cases anymore and he could get away with this. He was going to do a triple arthrodesis on my right ankle, then after giving me the pre-op meds he came into the room and declared that he was going to do a great toe fusion as well and I said "DO NOT DO THAT" and he responded "IT HAS TO BE DONE OR THE BUNION WILL COME BACK". After seeing him for two years I always let him know that the bunion wasn't a problem and to leave it alone as per the advice from two other doctors. He treated me with disdain and never referred to me other than a "turnip" as in you can't get blood from a turnip because of my financial situation. The surgery left me unable to run or even walk without causing a follow up operation to remove a neuroma that developed from walking for exercise. When I confronted him and told him that Dr. Richard Diehl and my primary, who is married to a foot surgeon both told me to never have that procedure done he got sheepishly cross eyed and said "they're right, I'm wrong" then laughed. This surgery has left me with a sleep disorder and dozens and dozens of cramps not to mention that my son grew up and I couldn't chase him through the park or run with him. By the time I found out about the medical board they said too much time had passed even though this is and has been an ongoing problem for many years. I am almost 70 years old and was very athletic and he took that all away laughing all the way to the bank as I had to borrow $25,000.00 to pay for a surgery I didn't want that has essentially left me disabled read more
