Customer is king, right? Especially today when you have so many options and most stores offer free online delivery, don't argue with your customer about the quality of your goods. I would never say anything if it happened once. Me--"I just bought this here and it broke in 2 places as I was trying to install it for my mother. I don't have a receipt, can I get a store credit please". The owner--"I've been selling this for years, there is nothing wrong with it." (Exactly the argument I got a year ago when I tried to return something, so I was waiting for it.). He says--"Give me the card it was purchased with and give you a refund". Me--"My mother bought it with her card and she lives in the burbs. Can I get a store credit?". "Nope, sorry". It's loyalty dude! I'll spend the money here. IT'S WHAT ALL THE OTHER HARDWARE STORES DO! I brought my mom back and spoke to another guy who also argued about the quality. I have other options... Not once in my life have I had a merchant argue with me about the quality and give me a hard time about store credit. read more

Best Ace in town. The place is ready for hoarders episode but the staff knows exactly where everything is located. All you have to do is walk in and ask for what you need and they'll take you to it. I bought a Weber grill and not only was it cheaper but they assembled it and delivered it for free. Sears on Lawrence wanted to charge me $200. Go to this Ace, it the best one downtown. read more

We bought a dog leash from this Ace. There was a flashlight attached to the leash so there was some assembly required after opening the package. When we tried to put it together it was defective and the flashlight wouldn't stay together. We tried to take it back and they said they thought we had been using it and broke it ourselves. This was not true and I was offended that they didn't believe us. They refused to take back the defective product. Even if we did use it and it broke... IT'S A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT and they should have taken it back. read more

I purchased a large, expensive, item at the store just over a year ago. I worked with the store owner. I had a problem with the item a few weeks after it was installed. When the he didn't call me back with a contractor in my area to use (I only live 7 miles from the store), I used my own. A year later, I had the same problem and the store owner yelled at me (loudly) remembering every detail, but the fact that he never called me back. He yelled like a dysfunctional parent would yell at their child. He is just awful dealing with him. He still refuses to call when he states he will. The only good thing I can say is that is staff is helpful and kind. But that means nothing to me when the equipment sold to me that should last over 20 years, breaks down frequently and I get yelled at when I ask for help. Avoid this store like the plague! read more

Home Depot is good for many things but there is something about a local hardware store that works. The staff is insanely friendly and helpful and they had everything I needed. They also took the time to explain how to use the PVC primer and glue. Without them my AC would have been off on a 90 degree humid day and likely cost me hundreds with a repair man. I was able to fix it myself read more

For a small'ish hardware store located in a district crowded with businesses this one seems to have whatever it is you are looking for. The isles themselves seemed a little cramped and the layout is a little goofy since the inside of the store seems to be two former businesses spliced together but there again they stock just about everything. The customer service at this store is awesome. Every time you go in the staff is very eager to help out and know exactly what it is you are looking for and where in the store it's located. It's almost like you have a huge Home Depot type store but shrunk down to fit into a urban setting. read more

I never not been able to find what I'm looking for here and always get great service. I'm fortunate this store is in my neighborhood as it's saved my ass more often than I care to remember. read more

So thankful for Joe at this location. He helped me figure out what I needed to repair my fireplace. Joe is extremely knowledgeable and knew exactly what I needed. The cost was half of what a service call would've cost! Can't say enough good things about this location!!! Thank you Joe!! read more

Every single time I go to this location I try to be patient and tolerant because of the treatment I get. Today, after a snowstorm I just had it! The woman who works at the front desk is always rude and seems profoundly put out by anyone who talks to her. And the man with the short beard who may be the manager or the owner is overtly annoyed that anyone asked him any questions at all. Just go to the extra trouble and go to another ace or true value hardware just a few blocks away. I went to the true hardware on Southport called Klein true hardware and it was an amazing experience! I left a review for them read more

I live across the street from the Lakeview Ace. There's five of us in our house and we range from people who don't know how to screw in a lightbulb to being able to wire a room by oneself. And all of us have been nothing less than satisfied at Ace. The employees can take you to directly what you need, even if you're not exactly sure what it IS that you need. The guys are all very friendly and helpful and the mass disorganization actually adds to the quaint, man-dominated store. My only beef is that the paint is pretty pricey--my roommates and I went to Home Depot to save a lot of money on paint. But other than that, I trust these guys with all of my questions and needs about home repairs. read more

Great service and they have everything you need for home improvement. They offer Benjamin Moore paint. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful. read more

I've been coming here for years. The guys have always been friendly and great conversationalist. The place has just about everything you need, and now that they took over the old jewerly store, it has now become the paint section of the store. Minus one star for being a tad overpriced but on days where I do not want to have to go home depot, its great read more

Great service, friendly workers. So great to have an Ace in the neighborhood. They have weird hours on some days. Dog friendly :)

Super friendly and helpful staff and prices are reasonable. Support this local business!

Service has improved noticeably - glad this place is still open.

This place is a total modern general store, they cram everything that you could think of plus 100 other non-normal for hardware store stuff, also the staff is super nice and helpful esp the short hispanic guy. Their prices are hit'n'miss some good other not so much, but I am happy that this is just around the corner for me. read more

Went in last night for paint for my new condo. Had no idea how much paint was needed per room, so I brought in dimensions of each room, explained the property and BAM! Paint! But the BEST part was the owner (I assume he is the owner), who said to me, "If your painter needs more paint tomorrow, just have him call me. We'll have it ready for him to pick up and you can just pay me on your way home from work." These guys are so knowledgable and so incredibly helpful. Visit them, become a customer of the Lakeview Ace, you will not be disappointed. It's no wonder all the reviews up here have 5 stars. So deserved. Cheers to the Lakeview Ace! read more

Classic hardware store. You'll most likely need help finding what you're looking for but the staff is friendly and helpful so no worries.

This place is great. I went in looking for several tools for some projects im doing at home and they had just what I needed. My only complaint is that everything seemed a bit cluttered (but hey, it is a tool store) read more

I'm so happy to have this hardware store in the neighborhood. They are always friendly and available to answer questions. I'm no handy woman so I can't speak to the selection and price but they are great for your basic needs. read more

Go to Home Depot? Please. Don't insult me!! Why would you put yourself through that when you can get a TRUE hardware store experience. These guys (and gals) know their stuff. Need a new toilet seat cause the apartment you just moved into is a bit dank? DONE. Need some caulk cause the shower is equally scary? DONE. Not sure what a toilet seat or caulk are? NO PROBLEM, they'll answer your questions and get you set up with what you need. This store is packed floor to ceiling (literally) with all your hardware needs, not to mention a staff ready and willing to help. A highlight of my new neighborhood. read more

I've been going there for almost 8 years and I feel this review is WAY over due.... I can't say enough good things about my local, neighborhood hardware store. Sometimes I go there in a whim almost 100% positive they won't have what I need and Telling myself I should have went to a "big box" store. 99% of the time I am happily proven wrong and they have the potting mix, paint product, or that obscure closet door part or handle I needed. I'm a last minute kind of guy, and they are always helpful and courteous. Most of the staff has been there for years and they will even saw boards to meet my specifications if they can. A+ service. As a small business owner myself, it's these independent places that always give the best service and have the capacity to get to know their clients. I hope he rest of the neighborhood continues to patronize this hardware store. Just like the name suggests- they are an ACE! read more

Very helpful, friendly staff when I needed to have several keys made. Their light bulbs are more expensive than at Target or Walmart and when I picked up an adorable bottle opener, it was caked in dust. I still purchased it because it was so unique and cute, but they need to dust off their items once in awhile. I'm sure they have some Pledge laying around the store ;) read more

This store is awesome! I dropped my keys into a sewer drain (so annoying) across the street, and an employee named Ryan pulled them out with a magnetic wand. His kindness was greatly appreciated. read more

I LOVE this place. They know where everything is!! I'd be lost without their awesome service. I like the assortment of small home goods organization products and such, and they always have the weird lightbulb I need for any kind of lamp. In fact, I am headed there now for a few random things! Oh, and my dog always gets to come with me since they are dog friendly (to a point), and always give my pup a treat. read more

We have bought a lot of paint from this location and they have always been more than helpful. Today however they went above and beyond helping us out with some paint matching issues. Trying to patch walls and touch up we were not getting an exact match even though it was the same Benjamin Moore color number and base. They took a lot of time trying to color match and even gave me a gallon at the cost of a quart because some colors don't scale well. The jury is still out if the patched spots will dry right, but either way the customer service was amazing!!! read more

Nothing new to say that's already been said, but it's the staff that differentiates this place. Helpful, speedy, friendly, etc.

I was in LV Ace today. I needed a plumbing part. I brought pictures but the salesman was not sure of the size from the picture. He told me how to disconnect it and bring it in (easier than I thought it would be.) He fit the correct item and I fixed my problem myself instead of hiring a plumber. Lakeview Ace has been my local hardware store for 15 years and I always get the help I need here. This is why I award them five stars. I am glad that they remain in the neighborhood. read more

Perhaps it depends on the sales associates working... I had an absolutely horrible experience. A laughably horrid experience. "She's just a dumb girl", is the impression I got from the three men working. It seemed like I was the only one in the store. I stood unrecognized, for an awkward amount of time... Excuse me, can someone just help me with a simple request? Is this a dream? I asked valid, simple, easy to understand questions regarding enamel paint, and a superglue appropriate for ceramic repairs. One gentleman seemed to barely care, another texting on his sidekick completely not paying attention. Now, I am not usually a Negative Nancy, but this awful treatment really riled me up! I needed Enamel, I needed a superglue that lends itself well to ceramic repairs. I am not needy, I am not crazy, I am just a bit confused and I thought you guys were supposed to know all this? I just want to make sure I am picking up what I need... Really barely help on either, and it was like pulling teeth. I ended up just standing confused, and annoyed. I left the store and biked over to home depot. (found what I needed quickly) Sorry Ace, you didn't even deserve a few of my dollars for the glue. Really, laughably, the worst hardware store experience I have ever had. Such obviously awful service. Perhaps I was the unwitting participant of a prank show...?? Not going to boycott Ace Hardware or anything, but I was steamed enough to type out this, my first negative review. boo for negativity, but they had it coming!! read more

I love this Ace Hardware! They seem to have every odd and end you ever could want or need and everyone is very helpful. They are not only helpful with in store questions but they also do things like check to make sure they have products in store for you when you call to see if they carry certain items. I am moving from the area this weekend and am sad to give up my hardware store that has been so great the last three years. read more

Awesome, re keying a garage door lock for $7 and 10 minutes? Yes, please. They are a great staff, can answer all your questions, and are not insanely priced for being one of the only local options in the area. It's a bit cramped inside but they sure make use of all the space in the store. read more

way better service and friendlier staff than the one in Clark street! we ended coming here because of the horrible customer service on Clark..the staff here actually likes to offer assistance, and are professional. If you live in the Lakeview area and are looking for a home improvement go-to-store, this is the place to be. read more

I was immediately greeted at the door. Since it was my first time in this particular store, I asked for some help. The lady was very nice and helpful. I got everything that I needed and was out the door within 3 minutes. Excellent service. I will go back for all of my hardware needs. read more

I've never had a bad experience here. The staff are as helpful as can be and the selection of items is great. I've gotten paint, potting soil, a bath mat, drain unclogged, keys copied, etc. and I will continue to go there for every home improvement need that arises. The staff are knowledgeable and prices are reasonable. read more

Needed Benjamin Moore paint as specified by my property managers and LAH was the closest outlet. Great selection of colors and good info on the differences between finishes. Paint guy seemed friendly on my first visit. Returned when I decided to paint a couple more rooms...and, for some reason, he seemed a bit surly. But, I wasn't there to strike up a friendship. They know what they're doing, so that's what matters. read more

Have gotten extension cords and paint here in the past with friendly service, but this experience went above and beyond. I bought a new tv and my old mounting bracket didn't work with the new tv config. Bought an adapter plate on line and the holes weren't big enough for the bolts. Big box store said they couldn't help, but I took it in to Lakeview hardware and they said they could try to drill it out for me. It fit perfectly and only cost me the price of a drill bit! Will definitely continue to support this local, old school business! read more

old, dark, cluttered...Can't match paint colors because "kid" in paint department didn't know how.
