My mom and I stopped in just to get a nice bottle of gin as a present for my uncle and had a few questions for Sam. An hour and a half later and several tastings and some great knowledgeable and historical conversation, we walked out of there with 2 very nice bottles of gin, Bardstown Discovery Series bourbon, Amrut (a scotch style whiskey from India), and Jewel of Russia vodka. So, I love this place been stopping back on the way home from the lake for years. A couple of weeks ago I picked up a six pack of craft beer chilled at the bar and felt very welcomed had a great chat and felt like this is gonna be a routine. The next week the owner told me I could buy beer but had to sit outside to drink it. He explained further that it was a wine bar and they were packed Friday's and Saturday's. He said he simply couldn't make enough profit on me to warrant having me sit in his empty bar. Then told me I was welcome to go sit outside. I told him, I didn't feel welcome and it was hot over 90 degrees at the time. So, I don't know what to think. I get that money is a key driver, but making people feel like that's all they represent is kind unpleasant . Also, why not just charge a corkage fee? Oh , and he also said they had beer on tap but wouldn't pour that during wine time. WTF, is this classist or just wine snobbery? I really don't know what to think. read more

False 10% off advertisement on Yelp - they told me they do not honor the 10% discount as stated on Yelp. Also - they haven't carried Pliny in years. Great selection of alcohol but the prices are high due to their location next to the lake. Good craft beer choices nonetheless and very knowledgeable about craft beer. I checked out this location because my friend was attending a wine tasting night at their location. Upon pulling up into the little strip mall parking lot, I was slightly confused as the location and outside strike more as a liquor shop, not a wine bar. Once I walked through the doors, I was greeted immediately by the owner and shown over to the bar where my friends were. This place is definitely interesting... to the left, you have all of your standard liquor shop amenities. To the right an exquisite wine tasting area, plush seating and a substantial selection of enchanting wines! They also had snacks and samples of their olive oil out available for everyone to try. Love me some olive oil, so of course I had to grab a bottle! While tasting wine, if you become hungry the Italian restaurant next door will deliver! Best of both worlds you are supporting 2 businesses at once! This is a family run business and it shows, they care about their customers and treat them as if they were a part of the family. Stopped by mid November after a day at the lake. Nice selection of craft beer also looks like they have a bar area however didn't appear to be open when we stopped by. The heavy set gentleman behind the register was very helpful in selecting some good IPA's. Prices are high as it's understandable with good craft...fine. However when we got home and cracked open a $24 4 pack of IPA it tasted sour. I looked at the can it had a date printed on it from March! I understand some beers may get better with age however not an IPA. Buyer beware check the dates before you buy a beer here. read more

This review is based off of customer service, ambiance and wine and cigar selection as my boyfriend and I come here on a weekly basis for his cigar and wine for us both. My boyfriend and I are what I like to call unsophisticated winos- we spend on average $10-$15/ bottle. This being said, we frequent Lakeside Beverages for their great wine selection and my boyfriend's weekly Ashton Cigar. As mentioned in previous reviews, Sam carries some very expensive wines BUT always has a great selection of more affordable wines that are still up to our sometimes picky standards. As for the cigars, I can only speak to what my boyfriend (with somewhat picky cigar standards) says... "It's good- slightly higher priced than other cigar shops, but they are one of two in the area that carry Ashton's." When walking into the store you may be pleasantly surprised by the very clean, non-liquor store appearance. If there is such thing as an upscale liquor store, this is it. The bar area contains both bar and couch seating with a large screen tv. You will also be greeted by one of the very gracious owners/staff. I highly recommend stopping in for Friday night wine tastings, wine bottles, wine in general... :) And for any other liquor needs as they honestly have a large, quality selection! read more

From the outside, this looks the average strip mall liquor store. It has been there for years, I only just recently went in for the first time because I heard that they have wine tastings there every Friday and Saturday evening. Most of the store consists of shelves stocked with all sorts of beer, wine, and liquor -- a good variety. They had at least four shelves full of different types of rum, ranging from your typical Bacardi to some very nice (very expensive!) aged rums. My husband's favorite rum had been discontinued, but he found it here, decently priced, so he bought their last 3 bottles. He was very happy! The front corner of the store is reserved for wine tasting. They have a long bar with about 10 stools, and some bench-style couches that accommodate at least another 12 if you don't mind being shoulder-to-shoulder. The rest is standing room only. The decor is so-so (it's still a liquor store with typical fluorescent lighting), but the atmosphere is very friendly and informal. It is usually *packed* with regulars. The owners are knowledgeable and they seem to really enjoy getting to know everyone. They send an email out every week announcing what they are pouring at the tastings on the weekend. The price is usually $5 for 6 generous tastes -- $10 if they are pouring something special. It's not a fancy, luxurious place, but if you go in expecting a strip mall liquor store, you will be pleasantly surprised. P.S. You can order food from the little Italian restaurant (almost) next door and have it delivered to your spot at the bar, or you can do you wine tasting while you're waiting for your table at the restaurant. We have also done the tasting, then walked across the gravelly lot to Dominick's or El Pollo Doro for dinner. Either way, three convenient options for dinner after your tasting. read more

My husband works the late shift nearby Lakeside Beverages, so we often find ourselves here for our quick late night date night. We even celebrated our 14 year anniversary here! A liquor store?? No, much more than a liquor store. This is actually a 5 star wine bar that carries and pours the very best wine (and other stuff!). Because to the naked eye it looks like another convenience store, it doesn't get the same kind of foot traffic and all the better for us- we have the best seats in the place, and the full attention of a Wine Enthusiast who can tell us the personal history of all the favorite wineries, breweries and celebrities that live in Granite Bay.
