Single-door entrance into the "house"
Christine M.

If you're rolling down Rainier on a sunny Saturday afternoon, be sure to stop into the Stone House. My husband heard the buzz on Facebook about a new ice cream shop in the area, so naturally we had to validate it for ourselves. Let me tell you Laina's does not disappoint. This ice-cream is unlike any other and the hype is real! For starters, parking is nearly nonexistent and will add another 5-10 minutes to your trip. Once inside, the hardest decision was figuring out which flavors to taste and which we wanted to actually leave the shop with. The grab-n-go pints (~$9) make decision a bit easier. My top 5 flavors (as of 7/13/20), in no particular order are Apple Pie, Pineapple Whip, Lemon Poppyseed, Peanut Butter Reese's, and Cookies & Cream. Service here is little to be desired, but as business ramps up, and they get a few more weekends under their belt, I'm sure the flow will be much smoother. It was our servers first day, so I can't hold much against them. When in doubt, they went and grabbed someone who I assume was an owner/manager and we were in-and-out in no time. We decided against the toppings and waffle cones for one main reason, they didn't look fresh. Typically, you'd see toppings in a serving tray of some sort, but they were displayed in jars behind the door and hadn't seemed used, so we passed. I couldn't smell any waffles cones cooking, so to avoid disappointment, we passed on those too. I can't wait for another weekend drive along the Rainier waterfront and pick-up more/new flavors to try!

Fantastic new ice cream store located onsite next to the Stone House Cafe. We went at noon, so not too busy yet. Everything was clean and service was good. Small batch flavors - creamy & delicious. About a dozen flavor choices at a time. Handmade waffle cones plain or dipped, fresh, flavorful with a little crispness. Our party of four tried Vanilla (creamy and very tasty), Strawberry (fresh), Chocolate (rich and creamy),- and Triple Berry (flavorful - purple!). Also tasted the Chocolate Crisp (chocolate with fudge and cocoa krispies). The flavors all shared a richness and creamy consistency of quality ice cream. Loved it! Will be recommending this store to friends, and look forward fo going back soon.

Great unique ice cream. Loved the ube and passionfruit flavors i tried on opening day. Service is not speedy, but that's partially to be expected with new openings. I was most concerned that their employees didn't seem to have hygiene standards in place. To the management: you have great potential in your product but will need to build in strict hygiene practices into daily operations. Thank you for bringing great ice cream to the neighborhood!

Awesome ice cream. Stale waffle cones. Awesome ice cream. Slow customer service. Awesome ice cream. Employees/their associates aren't social distancing or asking customers to adhere to the 6ft rule. Awesome ice cream. Employees never cleaned tables, sanitized or even came out during down times despite several customers. Not going back until they take things seriously.

I wasn't impressed with their ube or apple pie flavors. It's a shame because I was really looking forward to trying them out! The ube tasted powdery and not sweet at all. I've had ube at other ice cream shops and in a variety of forms but this definitely wasn't it. The apple pie... well, I could only taste the pie part of it rather than the apple. The crust was layered like a pie but was really dry and bland. I couldn't taste the apple pie at all even after I reset my mouth with water from the ube. Again, it's a shame. I'd like to give this place a chance because maybe their other flavors might be good. For the record, they have sanitizing liquids outside if you'd like to eat by the door. Otherwise, the cash register-to-customer ratio doesn't seem to be six feet.

Ube-dipped waffle cone!

The gelato is incredibly creamy, rich, and packed with flavor -- you can truly taste the freshness in every bite. I loved that everything is churned every 20 minutes or less, which gives it such a smooth texture. The menu has a great mix of staple favorites and fun seasonal rotations, so there's always something new to try. The staff was friendly, patient, and happy to let us sample flavors before choosing (honestly, you'll want to try them all). The shop itself is bright, spotless, and super easy to order from, which made the whole experience even better. Portions are the perfect size, prices are reasonable for Pike Place Market, and the quality is absolutely worth it. If you're visiting Pike Place and want a refreshing treat, this place is a must-stop. The Honey Lavender and Ube Coconut were amazing! And the Mango Tajin is not one to be slept on.

As you can see from my review years ago, when my hubs and I came back from a trip to Italy, we wanted to find a gelato shop that had the same quality as the shops in Rome. Not all the gelato and sorbetto we had in Italy was good, some flavors tasted artificial, and during our time there, we learned how to tell the good from the meh. When we returned to Seattle, we were happy to find great-Italy-like gelato at the Bottega Italiana in Green Lake. After that shop closed (still sad about that!) we started going to their other shop by Pike Place Market. For years, this place featured delicious, fresh, quality gelato and sorbetto that tasted like the flavors they were labeled with--so strawberry tasted like eating real strawberries and so on. But on a recent visit, I got a small cup with strawberry and raspberry-dragon fruit and the first flavor I got when I tasted it was sugar. As I ate more of it, it started to remind me of Jolly Rancher candies, not totally, but enough to turn me off. They use just enough fruit to make you believe it's the flavor that it's labeled with, but the amount of sugar and other things added makes their fruit flavors as meh as the not-so-good shops we learned to avoid in Rome. Alas, I think my favorite gelato shop in Seattle has fallen prey to profit over quality. Why, Bottega Italiana, why??? It makes me and my hubs very sad. The only reason I am giving two stars instead of one is because the service was friendly and efficient, and my hubs's dairy-based gelato flavors were all right--not great but all right. Over the years, we've tried all the other gelato shops in Seattle and none of them measure up either. I guess it's time we take another trip to Italy.

Staff up front were very patient with us when we asked to try several of their flavors at once.

When I mentioned that I had asked for vanilla, she rolled her eyes and went back to chatting while I stood there waiting. Another employee eventually stepped in and remade it, but the sundae was missing the nuts. At that point I didn't feel like asking again, so I just left. The sundae itself was also pretty underwhelming compared with what I remember from when they first opened. Overall, the place feels like it has gone downhill a lot. It makes sense now why it was empty on a warm weekend evening, when this same spot used to have lines out the door.

After learning about Hello Robin some months ago, I decided I had to make my way there one Saturday. A bit of a hike for me, but never too much for a good chocolate chip cookie. In fact, never too much for an average one either - because, let's be honest, even an average chocolate chip cookie is wonderful if you're an office chair. Not peeking the menu before I went, I was pleasantly surprised at the varieties of chocolate chip cookies they had to offer. Being the office chair I am, I swiveled left and right, inspecting the entire display, and ended up getting one of each (ok, that's a lie... I got 4 of each ). While each of them were great, the Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip cookie got me. The whole wheat offered something a bit different - a bit more of a nutty earthiness that you typically get with a brown butter chocolate chip cookie, but also with the pleasant illusion that I was making a healthy choice by going whole wheat. So, if you're an office chair like me roll on over to Hello Robin. You'll be glad you did.
