She was very rigid on not fulfilling our request, and somewhat unfriendly considering how easy it was for her to make the substitution. I guess they are not in the business of making their customers happy. Anyway, other than a decent Pork Sisig, the other three dishes were all somewhat disappointing. The Sotanghon Guisado tasted like a Chinese takeout lo mein, while the Palabok was bland. However, the worst dish was definitely the Adobo Chicken, which lacked flavor and was overcooked. I was at this Filipino restaurant a good while back with a group having mostly been to the Filipino places in Woodside. The staff here is friendly and the space is plenty large enough for big groups. In terms of the food in general, I would say that it was a bit less spiced compared to some other Filipino places such as Tito Rad's or some of the spots in Woodside but that might be just regional differences or something. To drink I had a "Barley Drink" as listed on the menu for $5.99 which turned out to be made with I believe mung beans. The drink was barely sweetened with a light floral and nutty flavor and was refreshing throughout the meal helping a lot with the richness of the various dishes. Our only small plate were the Sisig Tacos for $12.99 consisting of crunchy shells filled with pork or chicken sisig topped with lemon mayo. We chose pork and it was tasty though it was greasy as the crunchy shells were a bit wet which was especially the case for the areas topped with said sisig. The the sisig itself, the bite I had was very tasty with a good mix of texture and the lemon mayo helped reduce the richness and spiciness. This was overall good and I can see why others like it. My favorite of the main dishes was something I've had before which was the Ginataang Langka for $14.99 consisting of green jackfruit with shrimp in coconut milk. I like virtually everything cooked ginataang style and this was no exception with the large pieces of jackfruit having an almost meaty texture. The small shrimp in there added some nice texture and the coconut milk wasn't too sweet or rich with a bit of heat being a particularly good version of this dish. I would recommend it heavily. My next favorite was something else I've had before which was the Inihaw Na Bangus for $19.99 or grilled boneless milkfish stuffed with onions and tomatoes which also came with a small slaw on the side. The fish was well grilled and was very tender as it should be for this type of fish with the spicy vinegar cutting through the slight fattiness. This was a very tasty version and again, I would recommend this. The unique dish I've never had before was Chami for $15.99 consisting of sauteed egg noodles with pork and vegetables which was listed as sweet and spicy. The noodles had a good chew to them and the bit of pork in them were fine with a light mixture of vegetables. In terms of flavor, it was a tad light for my liking but overall, it went nicely with the other dishes but I wouldn't recommend it as your only main and just as a dish to split. The more generic grub was a bit worse. The Adobo Chicken for $15.99 was fine. There were plenty pieces of tender chicken though I felt the dish could have used a bit more vinegar as it was a bit more salty than sour which was unfortunate. This was OK. The Crispy Pork Kare-Kare for $17.99 was alright. As per some of the other dishes, the dish was a bit less spiced than usual which didn't really work as well here as it became a bit too peanutty compared to other places. The meat in there was well portioned though I felt they were a bit chewy also. I wouldn't really recommend this much. The rest of the people ate the Sizzling Pusit for $15.99 or squid sisig with peppers, onions, and special sauce. As I'm allergic to cephalopods, I couldn't partake and the people seemed to think the flavor was good which I'm not surprised that because the pork sisig was good but they found the squid a bit too chewy. I wish they got the bangus one instead and I don't really see that as often but oh well. In terms of rice, it can be ordered individually for $3.25 though I believe most main dishes come with it and you can pay a buck more for garlic rice/sinangag. I wouldn't really recommend the latter as I found the garlic rice to be light on garlic having when I felt like just small pieces of roasted garlic in there compared to many other places also using garlic oil to flavor. The food here is different than many other Filipino places and in some ways it works, and in some ways it definitely doesn't. This is lighter grub which was odd for me to think afterwards because the first dish we had was rich and well flavored while the rest of the dishes were a bit light in terms of spices. I came here with a large group for an event and they were able to hook us up to the tv so we could play a video; we then had dinner (served buffet style), and then did karaoke. The food was great, and very tasty. The staff were incredibly friendly and were able to make accommodation for someone in our group who cannot eat gluten. This Queens Blvd. Filipino cafe serves consistently tasty and artery-clogging renditions of all the cuisines classics, along with some fusion-ey twists like the crunchy shelled "sissig tacos" appetizer. Standouts include my personal go to order of the dark, vinegar braised Bistek Pinoy, the soft falling apart tender meat sopping up the sauce like a delicious, interspersed with rings lightly fried red onion always accompanied by the houses delicious garlic rice for a slight uncharge, as well as the famed crispy deep fried pork delight known as Bicol express, the shards of well crisped pork belly tossed in a deliciously sweet and spicy sauce of coconut milk, chili and shrimp paste. Of course any Fillpino spot is going to be judged on the quality of it's lumpia, and happily the ones here are greasy crunchy perfection on the outside and unctuous fatty pork (or chicken) goodness within. A deft hand with the deep fryer is consistently indicated across the menu but particularly where the other apps are concerned, as, in addition to the previously mentioned sissig tacos and lumpias, the fired shrimp and calamari are both worth ordering. This was my first time trying Filipino food, I came here with a large group for an event (they have a great event space in the back) and they accommodated us really well! We had a TV to play a video and project a few things, they had a karaoke machine, which was fun. I came with the Fam, was always curious if there a difference between NY and Cali or was it all the same. We've always driven past Lahi but never took the time to check it out, and I'm so glad we finally did! As a party of 4, we were seated rather quickly on a Friday evening (around 7:15pm), but the restaurant did fill up a bit shortly after. The space is a bit on the smaller side, but gives a home-y vibe. Between the 4 of us, we initially decided on the pork lumpia, chicken adobo, sisig bangus, lechon kawali, and palabok. Unfortunately, they were out of the palabok and chicken adobo, so we subbed with the adobo pork and held off on another noodle. Garlic rice is a must, and it comes with each of the entrees for an additional $1. I was honestly really pleasantly surprised by each dish. The lumpia was super crispy & tasty, and I could snack on these all day long! 12 sounds like a lot until you start eating - I could finish a plate of these myself (I think). The sisig bangus came out sizzling, and it was so fragrant! Adding the lemon in gave it that extra acidity that tied the whole dish together so well. This was really delicious, and definitely a highlight for me. Lechon kawali and adobo pork were both good, but nothing to write home about. The adobo was a little saltier than I expected, and I almost wish it had just a little more vinegar. We decided to add on two more dishes after a while, because the 4 alone didn't seem to be quite enough. After looking through some yelp reviews, we decided on the bihon and the sisig pork. The bihon was quite large portion wise, and really tasty in my opinion. It looks like such a simple dish, but the flavors are well balanced. Sisig pork was one of my faves - I enjoyed this a bit more than the sisig bangus, because I loooove the extra flavor from the fat. After many delicious meals and a number of outings, I feel safe in declaring Lahi as one of the better Filipino establishments in the borough. While an overwhelming majority of them are located in Woodside (#1), they have chosen Elmhurst as their homebase, along Queens Blvd with a slew of other Southeast Asian businesses. As with many eateries in the area, it's small. We're talking only a few tables small. I've managed to eat here solo many times, but group dining always had to be arranged ahead of time. Pre-pandemic, they might be able to sit 15 to 20 folks, even if the latter sounds impossibly cramped given the tiny dining area. Naturally, the food shines and in a big way. I wouldn't consider it super cheap per se or big on portions, but the presentation is on point. Things I would recommend ordering for all curious palates: * Pork BBQ Skewers: Succulent, juicy, and even a little sweet. * Any of the "log" breakfast sets: tocilog, tapsilog, dasilog etc. * Lechon Kawali: They might serve the best one I've had so far. Don't forget the liver sauce. * Sisig Baboy + Sisig Bangus: At the same damn time. * Gingataang Langka: Jackfruit + shrimp in coconut milk broth? This is a must have. * Garlic Rice: This should be the default rice out of all of them. * Halo Halo: I'm not the biggest fan of HH, but I did appreciate their massive version. My friend and I had the kare kare, sizzling chicken sisig, beef stew and halo halo. Each entree comes with rice. The kare kare is mild and goes great with rice. The oxtail in it was very good. The chicken sisig was good with a kick of lime juice, but I prefer the pork version better. I enjoyed the beef stew the most. It tastes a bit like the American beef stew with carrots and potatoes. It was really flavorful. The halo halo is huge! I suggest sharing it. It has all sort of things in it, some ube ice cream, a piece of flan, jelly, and red beans. This is a slightly newer and medium sized Filipino restaurant. The place is not fancy but it is clean and modern. We ordered several dishes to share: chicken adobo, lumpia shanghai, beef kaldereta, and chami noodles. Everything was very authentic. I felt that the lumpia was the best quality out of everything. They were super crispy and came to the table freshly fried. The other dishes were great as well. However, what prevents me from giving this place 5 stars is that I have been to other Filipino restaurants with bigger portions and slightly more flavorful dishes. The portions here are average size and the food was a tiny bit more bland than other restaurants. For example, their chicken adobo was light on the soy sauce and vinegar. Loved it here. It was my first time trying Filipino food. Usually Filipino cuisine is so heavy with pork that I haven't been able to try any. This place had a variety!! The sizzling chicken was decent. It was a tad too crispy. The lime juice on top was a great way to add more flavor to the dish. I got the beef stew, which was packed with flavor. The portions of the food was massive. Our server was so sweet in telling us not to get the tacos because it was prepared the same way as the sizzling meat. We then got the halo halo icecream which we never had before. Let me break this down. It's icecream on top of shaved ice and all the way on the bottom is all kinds of jellies. Me and my friend was eating it like ordinary icecream. Top to bottom. Our server walked over again and broke down how to properly eat it. So you're given a long spoon. The point is to dig all the way down to gather all the jellies along with the icecream on top. That way you get to try all the flavors at once. When the ice starts to melt, it becomes this sweet creamy liquid which you can just inhale honestly. But we had a lot of food and were done. Oh Queens, you've done it again. I find myself venturing into the borough whenever I'm looking to grub on really authentic food with a large group at a low price point. Lahi fits the bill perfectly. We had several Filipinas in the group who attested to the authenticity of the dishes. It tasted like home. As a Southeast Asian myself, I felt this way too. As you'd be able to tell from the photos I've posted, our groups' eyes are bigger than our stomachs, so we ordered a lot. Here are some of the highlights: Camaron Rebosado: Large pieces of shrimp battered and served with a side of hot sauce. Hard to go wrong with deep fried food. Delicious Escabeche Tilapia: Crispy tilapia served in a sweet onion red sauce. The fish was very fresh and crispy. Sauce tasted great with garlic rice. Ginatang Sitaw: shrimp, string beans and squash in coconut milk. I've had this dish elsewhere, but it's never tasted as good as the one made here. Pancit: stir fried egg noodles and vermicelli on a sizzling plate. This dish could've used an extra kick, so we added hot sauce and that did the trick. We washed down our food with avocado shakes and finished with some turon and leche flan. I think their savory dishes are stronger than their desserts, but I try to leave room for dessert whenever possible and leaving the restaurant with the taste of delicious flan in your mouth is not a bad way to live. One thing I'd be mindful of is to confirm how many dishes you've ordered in total, particularly if you're with a larger group. I've never had Philippine food before so I wasn't sure what to expect. I came here with a couple of friends and two of them were philippino so I just followed there recommendations. I ordered the lechon kawali which was like a fried pork belly dish with rice. The pork was super crispy, but wasn't really seasoned. I think that is because you are supposed to eat it with the sauce which was pretty sweet which isnt my cup of tea. My philippino friends also felt like the food here wasn't the greatest and that their mom can make the dishes better and cheaper. In terms of price it was around 15 dollars for each dish which is decently expensive in that area. I also ordered the halo halo cause my friends talked about it a lot. They really enjoyed it, but again I wasn't a fan. I may just not be big on philippino food, but based on what others thought about it I felt the food was OK overall. This is one of the best Filipino restaurants I ever got to try in Queens! I love that their menu is authentic Filipino--something most people grew up with and definitely has that warmth of homecooked food. But they also have impressive twists that elevate classic Filipino dishes like the sisig tacos (which is a must-order!!!) and their take on Bicol Express with pork belly. Lahi is the new kid on the block. Its on Queens Blvd so there are quite a few blocks. If you find out how many, I would really like to know. Message or compliment your king! Lahi is a small corner spot that is often packed (-good sign). It also helps that there are not a lot of tables. I was surprised by how quickly we sat as there were quite a few large Filipino families before us. Bangas Sisig. What did you call me?! Sizzling Milkfish Platter! You're lucky I like fried fish topped with tons of chopped onions, long peppers, and seasoning. The Lechon Kawali is always a crowd favorite. Crispy pork belly for the uninitiated. Both dishes go very well with the garlic rice, I would recommend asking for the sweet and sour sauce that usually comes with their calamari dish for the lechon dish. The vinegar helps cut through the oil and fat. The lemon on the bangus also helps when added to the heavy homecooking. We added two fried eggs to the sisig so I spread lemon around them and the rest onto my rice and lechon. Happy Eating! read more

I was eager to show Filipino food to someone who had never had it. Had to definitely get lumpia pork and lechon kawali. We also had Sisig tacos, pork because the cashier-who was also the waiter- recommended pork. Maybe we overdid it with the pork but I felt like the food was filling- but so greasy. A tip would be to order some type of veggie entree too so items may not be "too much" since I know other dishes are also fried. I may give them another try and come back for pancit or halo halo. I should say the staff seemed really nice! Yet, similar to another Yelper, I felt like I left this place wanting more. I had introduced someone to Filipino food and hoped they liked it as much I did, but this experience didn't fulfill that. read more

Filipino food is my comfort food and this place does not dissapoint! The food is on point but the only thing is that the place is tiny and service needs to improve. I went there with my bf and luckily we got seated right away. Theirs 2 servers which I think is enough since its a tiny place. We ordered letchon kawali or deep fried pork. Pritong bangus or fried milk fish. Sinigang na baboy or pork sour soup. All of this dish is delicious! The fried milk fish is my favorite above all of this 3 dishes we ordered. Its boneless and crispy on the outside and taste so good with soysauce, chili and vinegar. I'm glad to have another Filipino food around my neighborhood and hopefully their service will be better. They're not rude or anything, its just that they don't really pay attention like when we just got there and we sat then we didn't get the menu so we just got it ourselves. I know theirs a lot more to improve and I'm gonna come back for sure to eat some yummy Filipino food and hoping that time to see more progress. read more
