A friend and I were visiting Laguna Beach today and visited this nursery shop. They had amazing and unique items in the shop and nursery plants and items in the back. The owner was very nice to us. Although we didn't purchase anything, I will probably go back some time in the near future to buy myself one of his beautiful wind chimes. I felt I couldn't spend that money today but plan to get one as a Christmas gift. read more

I've visited many nurseries and small trinket shops over the years, but I have never been treated as poorly as I was here. My friends and I stopped by to look around -- one of us was actually hoping to buy something for their garden. While browsing, we used the restroom (which was available to customers), and shortly after, the man working there -- an older gentleman with glasses -- snapped at us with an incredibly rude, "So are you going to buy something or what?" We calmly replied, "We're just looking around for now," and his response? "So you just come in here and use the bathroom and leave?" At that point, I literally had something in my hand I was planning to buy. But after being harassed like that, I put it right back down and walked out. That kind of accusatory tone and hostility is unacceptable. This kind of customer treatment is outrageous. I'm a frequent shopper of local nurseries, and I've never encountered anything like this. If you value a welcoming atmosphere and respectful service, steer clear of this place -- especially the man with glasses. There are plenty of other nurseries that will treat you like a customer, not a nuisance. read more

I planned to come into this nursery for my best friend's bachelorette weekend since she loves nurseries and stores with knick knacks. Little did I know that we would be treated with such unpleasant behavior from one of the owners. As we were looking around, my friends and I asked one of the employees if we could use the restroom. He politely said yes until I exited the bathroom and the owner came off accusatory and pissed off that we weren't buying something and used the restroom?? The actual audacity to say offhand comments about us using a bathroom that was clearly open to customers. I personally think this place is not worth going to if there is going to be guilt tripping and such rude behavior from someone who SHOULD be providing exceptional customer service. Not only that, but you'd think someone would just be a decent human being rather than making people feel bad for using the restroom. PUT UP A DAMN SIGN OR LOCK THE DOOR IF YOU DONT WANT PEOPLE USING IT. There are plenty of other stores like this in the Laguna area with kind owners. Save yourself a trip and support a different business nearby instead. read more

The owner Ruben is not a nice person. It is a wonder that he is in a customer service. He is exceptionally rude to his employees AND the customers. I'd rather buy something from someone who's not guilting me into buying something. To be treated as less than by someone who wants my business (or so it seems) is not really good business practice. Rather sad to be that rude and pretentious around beautiful plants and trinkets that are supposed to bring joy to people. The man's audacity to address a customer in the way he did to me is wild. We took an amazing walking tour with Ruben Flores of Laguna nursery. If you have the opportunity to go one Saturday to take a tour with Ruben, go! He is so knowledgeable, so smart, so witty, so extra... in so many good ways... We started our day with a mimosa and ended it with a big smile on our faces such a treat to be taken to a private home right here in our own backyard that was absolutely gorgeous. You will learn so many wonderful things about trees and flowers plants everything nature has to offer in this local community... we all decided that we were going back in two weeks to do a different tour with Ruben. read more

Worst experience ever. First time visiting this store, and we were shopping outside and decided to check inside. While inside for less than 2 minutes, we here an employee say "I have to start kicking people out otherwise they won't leave" and then made an announcement "if you're gonna buy something do it now otherwise we close in 5 minutes" that has to be the worst customer service. Why open your store to close at 10:40 am on a Saturday! Wow. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Good prices horrible service. I'd rather pay double the amount somewhere else than deal with pretentious people that do business as such. read more

My sister and I walked into this nursery with my brothers bamboo plant. we needed answers. A man named Ruben spoke to us, cutting us off as we spoke. Very rude impatient and wouldn't listen to a word we had to say. My sister and stopped him and told him to Stop being so impatient, but he continued to railroad us with his impatience! I wish I could give this business no stars! I was recently in the area visiting my disabled friend and she asked for me to take her shopping for some succulents for her new home. I naively just searched the internet for the nearest nursery. The business definitely presents well upon first site (lovely and trendy), but the people who run the place are another story. The way they treated my disabled friend makes me want to cry. I especially want to mention the disgusting language i heard from the owner, Ruben. I have never heard anyone use the N** word in such a vicious manner. We can only pray for him. read more

This happened over a year ago and my experience was so bad I did not want to even think about writing a review. I like to be charitable and very rarely think about writing reviews, or let alone leave bad reviews. However, this experience formed such a persistent bad memory in my mind that I figured I would sit down and write one. I brought a friend over to look for some new things for her home. She picked up a small item sitting on a small foot stool. Upon picking it up, the leg of the stool, which was not attached, fell off. The young man working there that day accused us of purposefully breaking the item and that it would cost us 400 dollars for a tiny wooden stool--no bigger than a foot tall, with a leg that could just be properly glued on and attached. I calmly and nicely explained to the employee that it was not intentional, and if anything, it seemed irresponsible to stack an item--albeit even a small one--on top of a stool that cannot even stand on its own. Nonetheless, he threatened to call the police and began shouting over me. After half an hour of increasingly unproductive conversation, I decided to de-escalate the situation by offering to pay for the item just so my friend and I could move on with our day which seemed to be completely ruined. After making this suggestion, he insisted that my offer to pay for the item was a confession of breaking the item on purpose. In retrospect, I cannot comprehend how he was unable to understand what I was clearly stating, but I somehow managed to convince him that if there were any cameras in the shop, it would absolve me of any blame. He seemed hesitant about it, telling me how the surveillance system was "broken", which I do not believe is true. He then asked me to leave my contact information, which I was more than happy to provide from the very beginning. Next, he asked me to write down my credit card information, which I thought was ridiculous, but I was so sick of being there for over an hour now, that I just thought whatever. They seemed to have several of the same printouts so I imagine this happens regularly. He told me he would "check the cameras" and give me a call before charging my card and that I could come back to pick up the tiny broken stool, which, I wouldn't even have wanted to have in my own home after this experience, nor drive two hours to pick it up. I never received a call and did not see any charge on my bank statement. This is undoubtedly a shady spot with zero transparency, questionable practices, and an unprofessional employee. Worst of all, this left a sore memory between me and my now-distant friend. Cool plants, but save yourself a headache and a lot of money by taking your business elsewhere. read more

I knew of Ruben Flores for years in Laguna and his place, Laguna Nursery. Before working together, I looked at his portfolio of landscaping design projects and other locals I know have also recommended Laguna Nursery when I was ready to get plants for our home. Ruben spent a full hour at our place and gave my wife and I a free consultation. We were impressed with his aesthetic sensibilities. We also really enjoyed poking around his shop as well, picking out some pots and plants that informed him of our sensibilities and goals. Collaborating to achieve a vision for our space was a really fun experience. Ruben spent time educating us about the types of plants that would be fit best in our home and once he started the work, it was like our home just came to life! It was magical what he was able to do over the course of a week. He was into the project and the guys working with him were very courteous and professional. It's great working with someone who loves their job. I highly recommend stopping by Laguna Nursery and exploring the magical and interesting plants, pots and curiosities they have. Stayed at the hotel next door and had a balcony overlooking this beautiful nursery. The young men working there were super friendly and polite and always seemed to be busy doing stuff. The owner arrived and spent about an hour (that I observed) berating his employees (two teens) and basically treating them like shit. The nursery is pretty but overpriced. I can't support a business who's owner treats their employees like shit. You need them more than they need you. These guys know very little to NOTHING about plants. I asked the older man (Tom) behind the desk if he had any Micans, and he replied "Licans? No". To be fair, I was wearing a mask (while he was NOT) so I asked a little louder "Micans?" And he said louder, "No!" So I asked if he had any Cebu Blue? He asked "what's that?" (He was getting aggressive) I said, "its a kind of pothos". He said " Then you should have asked for a Pothos Cevu Blue." Mind you, both of these plants are fairly common. I was about to drop $45 on a beautiful air plant, but I won't patronize an establishment that treats customers so rudely. He then said " you wouldn't walk into a car dealership and ask for an Escort, you'd ask for a Ford Escort." Wow, really? When I was leaving, another worker offered a friendly greeting and I told him about my exchange, and he said "Really? I don't think it was his intention to be rude" and with a kind of a smile and giggle, turned his back to me. I guess this nursery is just not really interested in plants or customers. And even though we are in Covid, in the state with the largest number of Covid cases, they aren't concerned with the pandemic either as none of the employees were wearing masks. This little nursery has the most amazing customer service in Laguna! Jimmy and Rachel went above and beyond to help me; truly above and beyond. I came in with an empty pot where succulents once lived and they turned it into a gorgeous display, complete with proper drainage so my new succulents can thrive. Such an unexpected delight! I wish we could give negative stars. This isn't a nursery. It's a store that has some common plants and herbs. There is another store kitty corner to this place that is a lot nicer, and friendlier. The employees act "put out" when walking around. When I asked for a certain herb, I was told to "go look outside. If we have it, it's there." The two older men in there don't want to be bothered with customers. They were downright rude. Clearly they are full of themselves and aren't interested in selling plants. The selection isn't great and the prices are very high, as one would expect in this location. Don't waste your time here. read more

This has to be one of my new favorite nurseries. For the size lot they have you would expect to run into a few short comings, however; there are none. They almost always have what you are looking for and then some. The house plant selection is great as well as the outdoor selection. I ended up going home with a few more plants than I intended to buy no harm in that. Literally best nursery I've been too. They have the best selection and not even plants, I always get my last minute gifts here since they have such diverse product from the literal best birthday/greeting cards I have ever seen to the best smelling candles and soaps and pretties chimes. The workers are awesome and so helpful and the owner is the most fun kind person I have talked to and gave me great advice all around on how to care for my plants and even how to design them. Let's just say if I could give this place zero starts, I would. The owner is a pretentious, rude man. My husband and I came in to find out what a beautiful purple flower was that we found while walking in Laguna. As we come into the nursery and ask about if anyone would know this flower's name, the owner demands we bring the flower to him in the back. Rubin states the flower name and then asked "is that all?" And rolled his eyes at me. This was the most uncomfortable shopping experience and I don't advise anyone coming here again...it is hard to put in words how rude and dismissive and smearing this man was. First of all, I would not call this a nursery since they had almost no plants for sale. It is a mishmash of interesting and weird items for sell some of which are ridiculously overpriced. The employees there did not seem too happy that I was walking around the shop. It's not a very inviting place. I gave three stars because some of the items were very interesting and it was a very odd kind of shop which made it an anti-tourist place which so many places in Laguna Beach are. Yelp Now that I have been yelping for a while, I realize what a cool application this really is. Yelp has become my "go to" site whenever I go to a new city around the world. I've also been able to communicate with yelp friends from around the world whenever I travel to a new city in order to get advice of where to eat and also for business information. Yelp is also a great way to keep track of your past experiences and it has become a digital record of where I have been and how much I enjoyed those locations. Yelp is also a really great place to connect with people in your own town to see what is going on and what is fun and which restaurants are new and exciting. Try it, you may very well enjoy becoming a yelper also. read more

My husband and I wandered into Laguna Nursery while waiting for our reservation at Las Brisas. Ruben was a wonderfully kind and warm person. I loved the shop and all the beautiful plants. One in particular, caught my eye. We went outside to show Ruben which one I loved and he told me what it was, how to care for it and then gave it to us. It was our 50th wedding anniversary and my husband was looking for something to buy me but Ruben, with a generous spirit, gave us both this beautiful plant.
