I rarely leave negative reviews, but after several disappointing visits to OC Succulents, I feel it's necessary to share my experience. While the plants are fine, I found the overall experience not worth returning for, especially considering the prices, which feel high and not always clearly marked. Several times I only learned the final cost at the register, which creates an uncomfortable surprise at checkout. The customer service has consistently been the main issue. I was not greeted warmly, and when I asked questions or requested help, the responses felt curt and unfriendly. On a couple of occasions, I also felt ignored or met with negative body language from staff, which made the experience uncomfortable rather than enjoyable. I also found their promotions confusing and inconsistently applied. I was informed of a 20% discount for wearing a soccer jersey during the World Cup. When I came in wearing one, I was told the promotion only applied on weekends. Even though today is a holiday and the store will be closed for the Fourth of July weekend, the discount was still denied. Overall, the combination of unclear pricing, inconsistent promotions, and unwelcoming service has led me to decide not to return. I do not recommend this store. read more

I was pretty impressed by this place as it's a super huge nursery. Probably the biggest one I've been to so far. The good - lots and lots of indoor plants to choose from. Good variety. The bad - limited cactus and succulent variety despite them named OC succulents. Cactus were placed outside and many of them look like they're not doing well. Another thing I didn't like is that there's no price tag for many things. Am I supposed to guess? Some of the areas that had price tags were confusing or just didn't even have the plant named. OC Succulents is a hidden gem in Irvine. They have a wide variety of plants in a variety of sizes, but their succulents is what I know them for. Recently I know my direct reports have been really busy working tirelessly through deadlines, so I wanted to get something to show them my appreciation. I came on a Friday evening and they weren't too busy, but there wasn't much staff support in sight. I had some questions but I just wandered around on my own and figured it out. I chose 8 different 4" succulents ($4.95/each). I have this whole speech to tell my team how they are talented, unique, and beautiful in their own ways and I wanted to show them some appreciation. And the succulents can grow with them. And it's relatively low maintenance and long lasting, so it shouldn't be too much trouble. Waiting to ring up took forever. There was only 2 people in front of me but only 1 person at the cash register. Don't come here if you're in a rush cause it isn't a drop in drop out place. Also the lot they have for parking is an unpaved dirt lot, so your car will get dirty. I had to wash my car the weekend following my visit here. Great spot for the plant lovers. I'm not a plant lover but I know a lot of them so I'll come here for gifting, but not for personal purchases. read more

They carry all sizes of plants, from tiny ones for your shelf to huge statement plants for your space! The price is reasonable as well. I'm especially impressed by the variety of plants they offer. Went in today looking for houseplants and it was absolutely amazing! There's signs letting you know how much light/water/difficulty of growing each plant and most importantly if they're toxic to animals! Brittany was super sweet and helpful. One of the employees (Alexandra?) was very helpful - I had made the arrangement but she assisted with the potting and gave a few tips. It was only for like 5 minutes but another employee said she was supposed to charge for her labor. I would have paid but she let it go. But still a great place! read more

I was absolutely shocked by the rudeness of the checkout girls. First of all, no one was at the counter. I had to go ask them for service. They had their backs turned away from register line and talking. Instead of just checking me out, they asked the other customer were they first ? Like I cut in line. I was there first and no one saw me so I went to get them. One of the girls was soo rude and told me they would ring me up this time but I need to stay in the line next time if I wanted to get checked out. I am still in shock by her rudeness. I'm a succulent farmer. I'm always looking for inspiration and new looks. I discovered this place and I've been back twice since. I really like the potting Station. I'm able to buy pots and plants and put them all together and they look just great. They give you supplies to pot your own plant, which I think is like a plus plus plus situation. The last time I was there I got 10 plants and pots and I walked out and put them in my car and looked at my bill and it was $114. Damn. I'll be back. Nice people working there too. Wow this place is it! I arrived with my own pot needing to fill it with something pretty. I did not expect the business to be this massive with so many options! I was blown away! Every succulent you could think of was here in a variety of sizes. Next to them even included care instructions and necessary sunlight. I found a few small succulents for my pot and headed to checkout. At checkout I asked if it would be possible for me to plant the succulents there. They told me that not only am I welcome to plant my succulent there, but they had an entire work area just dedicated to making a succulent garden FOR FREE!! I was thrilled!! The work area had a variety of different color rocks, sand, soil for different types of succulents, moss, grass, etc. truly a little bit of everything! This place is absolutely adorable!!! My roommate and I wanted to look for a cute indoor house plant that could liven up our living room and OC Succulents delivered! As you're walking in, you'll notice all the succulents lined up in neat rows outside and there are PLENTY of varieties to choose from. They weren't kidding when they said they specialize in succulents. There are also some large outdoor desert plants if you're interested in looking into those as well. Inside the building, there are a wide variety of indoor plants and more succulents! We finally decided on the fiddle leaf fig for $50 and brought a new member into our home. We often pass this location on our way to the Costco in the Tustin District area, and thought we should go here since it was well reviewed and we wanted to increase our plant decor. When you walk into the tent, you see how well organized, assorted and variegated the plants are! The staff seemed very friendly and the customers were also knowledgeable about the plants (one telling my husband about how it is easy to propagate the Chinese money plant.) Though I did not use the station, I thought it was cool there was a DIY potting station to the left side when you enter the facility but hope to use this in the future. The reason why I don't give this place 5 stars is because though they have signs about COVID policies and the need to adhere to masks, there were at least 3 customers that entered the facility without masks and these guidelines were not enforced. There is also some confusion about the cost of plants, and noticed some plants were marked according to its size and type but others were not so the lack of clarity and consistency cost 1 star for me. read more

I've always liked succulents and plants, but haven't been good at taking care of them (in other words, just too lazy when it comes to gardening). They're more and more popular now due to the drought. My younger kiddo also likes succulents, so when we were out and about one day, we decided to stop by here on a whim. This is located off of Warner Avenue, between Harvard Avenue and the Jamboree on-ramp. The entrance doesn't stand out as much so may be easy to miss. The nursery is on dirt grounds and the parking lot isn't lined, so had to assume a spot near other parked cars. They have 2 other locations, San Diego and Torrance, but only the Irvine and Torrance locations are open to the public. According to their website (ocsucculents.com), their hours are: 7:00a-5:00p Mon-Fri, 8:00a-5:00p Sat, and closed Sundays and holidays. Wow, I didn't realize how big this place is, and the variety of succulents and plants they carry. There's an outdoor section mostly with cacti and succulents, and an indoor section (a ginormous tent) with a variety of plants, supplies such as pots/containers, and a counter to pay for your stuff. Since we were here, we wanted to get something, but because we wanted too many things, it took forever to narrow it down. Prices were reasonable. We ended up getting a 6" hanging succulent (about $15), a few of the 4" ($5ea) and one 6" cacti (about $14). Kiddo's been taking care of them ever since (phew). Easy peasy since they need to be watered infrequently (which is still a hassle for me, lol). All of the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. If we can keep the ones we bought alive, then we'd love to come back for some more. read more

I want to preface my comments by saying I have never been somebody who understood the purpose of buying plants to put in a house, despite my partner's insistence. To me, house plants that you do not primarily eat are just poor substitutes for trying to take care of a pet. You don't even benefit from the reciprocal pet affection afterwards. This was my sentiment when I begrudgingly accompanied some of my friends when they wanted to go "succulent hunting" as a social event. Immediately when entering the wide sprawling canopies, I was taken aback and marveled at how well arranged and beautiful the set-up was. Being a first-time plant buyer, I did not feel intimidated as the pathways facilitated the process of how to figure out what to buy (cheaper plants being ~$12 or so), how to plant, and instructions on care. On the other spectrum, I marveled at some exotic and large starter trees that ranged in 3-digit $$$ range to allow enthusiasts to explore even more. In times of social distancing, wandering this controlled open space was soothing (see picture). It was a breath of fresh air, pun definitely intended. read more

We went there for my daughter's fairy garden birthday party. They had a blast, the fairy gardens they created were beyond my imagination! The staffs were very friendly and helpful. I also used my 20% off coupon, it saved a lot. So make sure you sign up to be a member upon check out. You need to pay for the pots and succulents first before you use their potting station. Total costs of the succulents and pots for 6 girls are $120 after 20% off. We also had a lot of unused succulents which I took home with me. Fairy garden accessories are from Michael's and Amazon. The party took 2.5 to 3 hours including time to pick out succulents. There were no other customers using the potting station that day which was nice. They had a large selection of pots and baskets when I used to shop there. My large snake plant and Zz plant i purchased two years ago on thanksgiving weekend is healthy and flourishing. My smaller 4" snake plant varieties all died. That includes my 5-6" $30 starfish snake plant. All of My relative's snake plants also died, so it's not just me. The $10 Hoya hearts never rooted and also all died. I bought succulents and gave as gifts but I don't know if they survived. Recipients won't tell you in case they think they killed it. They only have a return policy of a few days so my money is SOL. Manager specials don't survive. My snake plant special wilted within two weeks. I have beautiful house and outdoor plants from other sources. Friendliness of staff depends on who you get. I haven't been back in a year so it may be better. I'm giving three stars for the staff members that were friendly and my $50 snake plant and Zz plant that are doing well. read more

They take the "suc" out of succulent shopping I recently hosted an event here and I was surprised to see that the quality and the variety of the succulents here are truly amazing. I was looking for some low lying succulents to put in this large patch of dirt in my backyard. OC succulents has a huge selection of small, medium, and large succulents which are all separated by size. We opted for four mediums and two small plants. The staff was super helpful with planting instructions, watering schedules, and which plants flower and which don't. I was going to buy about eight plants, but the staff member suggested I get four and wait to see if I still have room for the other four, which I really appreciated. He mentioned they should be planted about a foot apart, so space could get tight. I'm waiting for a soil delivery and will update my review the succi's planted.
