I almost hesitate to write this review because I don't want everyone discovering this amazing place--but it deserves the recognition. This is a family-run business with truly top-notch plants, cacti, and succulents. The quality is better than what I've seen at many of the high-end nurseries, yet the prices are far more reasonable. Everything looks healthy, well cared for, and unique. If you love plants or are looking to add something special to your yard or home, don't miss out. Support this local family business--you'll be glad you did. read more

I recently visited Aki Nursery and had a good experience. Having lived in OC most my life, I didn't know this nursery had such a variety of plants, gardening supplies, and decorative pots.. This nursery has a peaceful and well-organized layout. They had a wonderful selection of popular items including indoor plants, succulents, orchids, fruit trees, flowering plants, and bonsai. Since I am into succulents it was nice to see the variety they had in stock. Only downside is the pricing of these succulents. I also looked at orchid and pondered whether to replace my indoor collection but the pricing was a bit too high for me to justify replacing all my indoor orchid plants. So instead, I picked one new succulent and one beautiful purple orchis and checked out. I also browsed their collection of ceramic planters and seasonal garden decorations to get some inspiration for my own backyard. Overall, service was good. The staff was very knowledgeable about plant care and watering tips and they gave me advice on keeping my succulents and orchids alive. HAHA we will see how they behave in the next few months. In conclusion, good shopping experience here. Will be back here if my new plants need more tender loving care advice! read more

What an amazing experience! I needed very particular shrubs. I was having a very difficult time finding the right specifies and the the ones at Home Depot were so expensive I thought I would try smaller nurseries. I was up early and the only nursery open was Aki so I called and the young lady on the phone was so nice and helpful. I really only wanted 1-2 gallon size as I am on a budget, but she said they only had the 5 gallon size. I asked her how much they were figuring they would be way out of my budget, the price was so reasonable I said I am on my way. I must admit I used Apple Maps and got lost, but when I called the nursery again, the young lady patiently directed me turn by turn until I arrived! I parked and the young lady on the phone, Emily, was walking over to help me pushing the flower cart. She took me right over to show me the shrubs which were huge and so health. Mission accomplished, but the visit just got better and better. Emily shared the story of her family's nursery and I met both her parents. Actually, her dad loaded those huge shrubs in my car so carefully. I am so excited to have found this jewel and once my back yard remodel is done, I cannot wait to go back to get all my flowers and plants for the beds. it is a wonderful bonus is to be able to support such a kind and generous family run business. Thank you Emily and to your parents! I will be back soon! Tammy read more

Lovely nursery with a nice and healthy selection of plants and trees. Also nicely laid out and organized. Emily was a great help. They had the melaleuca nesophila I could not find anywhere in stock and they had two! The pricing is also quite reasonable. read more

Emily was so knowledgeable and very friendly. She helped me pick out the perfect plants for my back yard, they have a great selection and fair prices. You can tell they really care for the plants, as everything I got was so well taken care of, and even in this heat they are getting established and thriving. There is no comparison between Aki Nursery and other local places or big box stores, Aki is truly a gem! Thank you Emily!!! read more

I came here originally in October to complete my zen garden. I wanted plants in the garden, but didn't really have an idea of what plants, other than that I wanted it to be Japanese inspired. I explained this to Emily, and showed her photos of what I had in place. She was very helpful and took me around showing me different varieties of plants. We finally came up with a variety. Several months later after my grass was installed , I was ready to do the purchase. Once again, Emily was very helpful, and could tell I needed further handholding. She even helped me with where to put the plants. I am extremely happy with the end result. Just look at the photos. I will be coming back to Aki Nursery for my indoor plants as well. Thank you so much Emily! read more

They are always very helpful, and the prices are extremely reasonable compared to nearby competitors and retail stores. I also like the variety of plants they have on hand and the quality of those plants. Aki has been my go-to nursery for years, and will remain so. I am loyal to them due to their great service. read more

The nursery is located in Irvine business district, which is pretty odd when I first google it. It's pretty nudge in the business district. This place has lots of plants! Most of it is decorative plants, plenty of succulents, some house plants and more. They don't offer any herbs, vegetables since I lasted visit. One of the workers says it's due to the animals eating a lot of the crops. the succulents are reasonably price, starting with the 2 inch pots for $2. They were also offering 20% off on your order, when I went on a Saturday! read more

Very good selection of healthy plants, knowledgeable and helpful people working there.

Aki and his staff knows about plants very well and always give me useful advice. Highly recommended.

Terrific gem of a family owned plant and tree nursery in the central part of Irvine. The folks who own and operate AKI are helpful and extremely knowledgeable about all types of flowers and trees and plants. And their prices are very competitive. Customers can drive in and pick up or they can get delivery. The yard isn't fancy but it's spread out and you can get anything you need if you ask. Great place, just one block away from Kaiser Sand Canyon on Alton Pkwy. read more

I was shopping around for some mini succulents that I needed for a project - 48 of them to be exact. While a lot of the other nurseries in the area made it hard to find their pricing, a quick phone call to Aki Nursery got me the numbers I needed. Finding this place wasn't too hard - if you're coming from the 405 S - take the Sand Canyon exit and turn right on Alton. It's the first driveway on your right, once you drive past Kaiser Permanente. The selection is huge - they had many 2" mini succulents - and all were priced competitively at $1.99 - the friendly owner provided me with a handy cardboard case to hold them all, and the daughter - who everyone else raves about in their reviews - found me a nice little bag to hold the remaining succulents I picked out to make up my 48. See my attached photo for reference - the selection was great and I was able to pick a number of different styles to complement my project. I was pressed for time, so didn't have a chance to check out the other plants and offerings, but for the time that I was there, service was attentive and thoughtful. A few people have mentioned that it's a small, family-owned operation - and that's something that's always a plus in my book. Buy and support your local businesses. It's so hard to find local nurseries now that land is at a premium in Orange County. Given the prices and great customer service, I highly support Aki Nursery! read more

Aki Nursery - 2" mini succulents - Nurseries & Gardening Near Me - Irvine, California

This place is easy to miss small mom & pop independent nursery specializes in succulents. I didn't see bonsai so I asked Emily she led me to a closed off fenced off area where they kept bonsai. There is a selection of bonsai to choose and some are decorated. It happened to be discount Saturday which is nice since they charge a service fee for credit card. read more

Abundant, varied selection at fantastic prices! This is probably the best nursery I've been to. They have just about everything you can think of, the plants all seem lush and healthy, the Japanese owners are full of helpful information and - best of all - the prices are excellent. They have a few planters but don't carry any gardening tools or plant products. Here, it's all about the plants. And, as I mentioned, the folks here know the world of flora very well. No matter what plant I pointed at and asked a question about, they had an answer. You'd definitely want them on your team if you played the horticulture edition of Trivial Pursuit. The nursery entrance is easy to miss (on Alton just south of Sand Canyon) so be alert for their open gate. I don't think I'll ever go to any other nursery now that I've found this one. read more

Came to browse for an indoor tree for my living room and a small plant for my son's room. Although I didn't find the tree I wanted today (apparently fiddle leaf trees are very popular so they didn't have any left), I saw many other gorgeous flowering and non-flowering trees and lots of succulents. My son picked out a little mixed-succulents pot for his room for only $8. When we took it up to the booth to pay, the sweet older gentleman who I presume is the owner took my son to a succulents table next to the booth and let him pick out another succulent plant for free! What a sweet gesture! Will definitely come back here for any future plant purchases. read more

The staff at Aki Nursery were a great help in our urgent need for plants. We were required to install some drought tolerant plants to fulfill a city requirement, in a short time frame. They had the plants we wanted for a very competitive price (like 25% cheaper than a nursery in HB) and had a reasonable delivery fee, so we got the plants quickly and installed them in time for inspection. Pleasantly surprised at the selection of succulents and cacti. They had everything I was looking for. Even a variegated ficus elastica "rubber tree" that I had not expected to find. Other rare find was the Prayer Plant that has not been in stock at local nurseries and garden centers. Kind owner even gave me a rare Varigated Bear Claw! I didn't even realize what she had given me until I left. Thank you Aki Nursery! read more

Wonderful family owned and run nursery in Irvine. They have a wonderful selection of succulents (better variety, specimens ie large, flowering etc., and a $1 cheaper for 4'' pots compared to bigger nurseries nearby), drought tolerant plants and flowers, trees, and can get you what you're looking for if they don't have it immediately. Emily Aki runs the nursery with her family and she is a great resource. I higher recommend making this your go to nursery in the Irvine area. Only thing to note is you get a 3.5% discount with cash (it's a mom and pop place not a corporation so I get it), and no returns/exchanges. read more

This nursery is in an odd place - essentially right in the middle of a major business district in Irvine. Google maps has the entrance location marked incorrectly, so I originally missed my turn off the main road. Once on the nursery grounds, it looks like a bulldozed lot has been converted into a smaller size retail nursery. Ample shade cloth makes perusing the selection enjoyable. The plants were well organized, clean, and looked well taken care of. They had several interesting plants including cactus, agave, succulents, natives, butterfly attractors, etc. I think it is worth stepping in to check out especially given its central location. read more

If you want knowledgeable staff with a personal touch, to support a family owned business, and need a great selection of plants, Aki Nursery is the place to go! It has its own gated entrance off of Alton just passed Kaiser hospital. I was greeted by Emily and let her know I needed help creating 3 pots of plants for various purposes. I told her my preference for low maintenance, longer lasting plants, a desire for scent and that one would be a gift for a family that recently lost a family member. The pots were 25% off and had a decent selection. And we set to work! I was able to see her work with her knowledge and creativity to create beautiful arrangements. She also let me know how long each plant would last, the insects or birds they would attract, how to water and how to prune the particular plant. As a newbie to gardening it was much appreciated! Her father potted the soil and her mother rang me up. Everyone was kind and professional. I will be a repeat customer! read more

After visiting a number of nurseries in Socal, Aki is a hidden gem that far surpasses the variety and value offered elsewhere and online. Are they the most manicured plants? No. Some of these are growing wildly out of their pots. But that just adds to the allure of finding a hidden treasure. And if you're a collector who's tired of seeing nurseries milk you the same dull varieties of Sucs in 2" pots for $5 a piece, Aki's chaotic cornucopia of succulents is a jungle of delight to sift though. read more

Love the small, independent vibe here and the down to earth staff. This is definitely an Old School nursery, not a flashy one, and anyone who pines for the "old OC" (circa 1970s) will be pleased to find this little slice of the past. They have a good-sized selection, including a nice variety of succulents and a small but quality selection of potting soils. Children will likely enjoy a visit to see all the resident ground squirrels racing around the large dirt slope and parking lot! The only negative is some of their plants are a little tattered (and leaves of one tree seemed infested by scale). But hey, if you want perfection, head to Newport and pay twice as much at Rogers Gardens. read more
