BLUF: The staff are friendly, the location is beautiful, and the restaurant is clean -- but the chef is the issue. The steaks were overcooked, and the Caesar salads were served at room temperature instead of on a chilled plate, as they should be. Menu is $22 - $38. A safety concern worth noting is the raised deck by the water should be roped off. A morgue would have been more welcoming than Lago del Pino. Our server was extremely rude and degrading because we paid in cash (had to get change for $100 boo hoo). We didn't even drink our cocktails and left due to how nasty she was to us. This place has so much potential but is severely lacking in several areas and this is coming from someone who has worked in the industry for 16 years. Staff appears miserable, it's more quiet than a library, and awkward throughout the restaurant. The patio is in shambles and dirty. Like come on, you own a restaurant worth millions of dollars and it's clear you have no pride in your building or employees. This place is absolutely breathtaking! The bartender, Cadence, was so helpful with the drink menu and offered us amazing drinks that looked like they came out of a magazine! She entertained us while we waited for our table. Such a sweet, hilarious and hard working girl! The wait staff were all very great to be honest! I had the tortilla soup and it was delicious! My friends had the fajita platter! The only thing I think they need to bring back according to the other reviewers is the live music! Checked out this place on a day trip to Tyler and it's a must for tourists and locals. The setting is beautiful! Highly recommend going during sunset so you can experience both day and night on the lake, and they even have live music. The food was great. Was it my favorite? Not quite just because it did feel a bit limited compared to other Mexican restaurants. But I don't think this is a "Mexican restaurant," they just had elevated Mexican food on the menu. And the staff was super nice! We were celebrating an occasion which they didn't really do much for, but we got a great seat on the patio and that was nice. Really good spot to celebrate things. They even have a big bar and seating area inside. Like someone mentioned in another review, it is more casual inside/outside though. It's not super fancy like you would think. read more

To be honest I was worried about coming here after the reviews. However, my roommates and I live nearby and drive by regularly and regardless of what you think of the food you cannot deny the setting is beautiful. Finally our intrigue outgrew our wariness and we decided to go for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised by everything we encountered! We were seated promptly and our server was awesome! We order the queso as a starter and the serving size was massive and fed our group of 4 PLENTY of cheese. I personally ordered the chicken fajitas and while I wouldn't say there was anything impressive about them I did think they were good. Additionally we ordered the lobster Mac and cheese, pork sliders, and chicken tortilla soup. All of us came to the conclusion at the end of dinner that we really enjoyed our time at Lago Del Pino and thought our food was good. It's definitely a place you go to more for the view and atmosphere than the food but that doesn't have to mean that the food is bad! Easter Brunch was a joke. The unopened bottle of champagne I bought was the best thing I had. Service was terrible and all they had to do was serve drinks. Food was ice cold and not good at all. We would've had better tasting and HOT food going through the drive through at McDonalds and saved $75.00. Complete disappointment for our holiday. We came here for a family dinner on a Saturday night on a holiday weekend (the Saturday before Easter), which may account for why they were so understaffed. Our waiter, when present, was incredibly friendly and we liked him a lot, but he was clearly swamped. We were served our first drinks right away, but our meals and re-order of drinks took forever to arrive. When they did, some of our food was good, and others were not so great. Overall the best thing about this place is the ambiance. The building itself is beautiful, and it's on the water with a great view. However, most of the outdoor seating is set up for couples or two-person groups only without a reservation well in advance. While we were there it looked like a band was setting up to perform, with ample room for dancing. So maybe a place to go back for a date night as long as you don't mind slow service. read more

We also had the Queso Blanco / Salsa and chips. For the main course, we had the following: Fajitas- beef and chicken served with cilantro- lime rice and basic set up. Smoked Jalepeno Meatloaf, which came with garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed vegetables. Pork Chop served also with mashed potatoes and veggies. The good was all good ! We've been here several times. Lunch, dinner, brunch, drinks. The food is consistently okay, but nothing special. The brunch buffet is not watched carefully so I'd be cautious about what you eat being at the right temperature. Here's the catch, service is notoriously bad or invisible. No one is properly trained and there is a consistent turnover so that no one seems to truly know how to run a restaurant. I'd be hard pressed to say there is a manager since one is never present. This place has the right ambience to be truly magnificent if the food portion could be brought up to speed. My recommendation: go for drinks. read more

We walked in and the hostess desk was a mess with no one at it. we had to wave someone down to seat us at our RESERVED table that ended up being dirty with dishes. We just stored there while it was being cleaned. We sit down and there are 3 other groups there eating. There was no music playing over the speakers 30 minutes into our experience. We had to ASK for it to be turned on. All the servers were wearing something totally different from each other and it just looked very unprofessional. It's basically mexican food but you have to pay for chips and salsa, so not complimentary. All four of our menus were in a different format and mine was all cracked so i couldn't even read it. The plates they brought us to eat in were like tiny dessert plates. The bill was over $100 and we will not be returning unfortunately. The pictures online are very deceiving. They make it look fun and cute and a nice place to have a date of a party, but it is not. We checked out the outdoor seating and it looked like it was abandoned. Even if we wanted to sit outside the lighting was almost pitch black and it just looked sad and dingy. All you got was the light coming from the windows inside the building. Our waiter was way too soft spoken and acted like he didn't care at all about his job. The food wasn't horrible but not worth the price. How can you charge someone 25$ for a buffet and not have heaters on the food you are serving? I brought my daughter and mom here on Mother's Day, May 8th 2022....yikes. I was embarrassed, overcharged, and left hungry. Instead of a menu, they were only offering a buffet. This buffet would have made a Super 8 Motel look like the Four Seasons...and that's being generous. They had: cold scrambled eggs, bacon, frozen circular sausage patties, diced potatoes, toast, beans, runny queso with chips about 5 empty trays that were never refilled. One appears to be some sort of french toast and an enchilada tray...but since they were never refilled, I can't be certain. They were offering mimosas so I ordered a bottle of champagne for $20 and they offered juices (oj, cranberry, pineapple), but then tacked on a $3.50 charge for each juice. In total, I spent $100 on the 3 of us for brunch....and had 2 triangles of toast, a piece of burnt bacon, and a few bites of cold eggs. The mimosas were the best part. We all left disappointed and hungry. The venue is beautiful. The patio and views, amazing! But the food and service needs ALOT OF WORK. Fine dining is a definite misrepresentation. read more

We were greeted outside with a fountain that wasn't working and was a skummy green. There were very few cars in the parking lot. We were met at the door by a very pleasant hostess and we were seated immediately. It took about 10 mins for a waitress to come take our drink order. While she was there we ordered an appetizer as well. Another 10 mins later she returned with our drinks. We ended up waiting about 20 mins before our appetizer arrived. We ordered the queso fundido which was very tasty. Our appetizer was comped due to the wait. My husband ordered fajitas and I had the carne asada both came with cilantro lime rice. It didn't seem that there was any cilantro or lime in the rice. It tasted like buttered rice. The chicken fajitas were good. The carne asada could have had more flavor. The place definitely has potential with both a beautiful setting and building but needs to work on service with food and drinks arriving timely. One star is too much. My kids went there tonight for dinner before prom and the service was sub-par. The server spilled water on my daughter and her friend and he just laughed and never apologized. The large party that came after them were served first! And to top it off the food was not great. They ran out of limes and all of the kiddos ordered tacos. About a decade ago, a coworker told me about this place and I've always wanted to visit. Today was the day. At 1 pm, it was full sun HOT, but we wanted to enjoy the view of the lago so we sat outside. The host pointed the massive fan in our direction and with the patio shade, we were set. Aidan was our waiter. He greeted us and the restaurant was not busy at all so he was very attentive. We ordered water with limes and avocado egg rolls. These were swiftly delivered and were even tastier than the ones we recently tried at BJ's. Husband ordered the meatloaf. It was tasty but he'd wished the sauce was not drizzled over his potatoes and veggies. I ordered the Texican Chopped Salad, but they were out. They accommodated my vegetarian request by making street tacos with black beans even though it wasn't on the menu. They were excellent with the sautéed veggies and cilantro lime rice. Was looking forward to a great night for our 15th anniversary. Heard great reviews and several people recommended so we gave it a shot. HORRIBLE! I dont know if we caught a bad night, but service was sloooooooow, food was terrible and it was like a ghost town inside. I had grilled salmon with rice and vegetables. Salmon was dry. It was a little surprising when we got a menu that that had items and prices blocked out as this looks like a very upscale place. Our friends had been here before so they asked about a special Margarita they had gotten and the girl said she didn't know what it was and brought him a regular Margarita.. We asked for the drink menu and the 1st thing on the drink menu is a special pineapple Margarita.. When I asked what type of tequila was in it because it says it had pineapple tequila, she answered that they don't have that anymore so they just use regular tequila and pineapple juice.. Hmm..she was apologetic on the confusion over the margarita and offered to bring the proper one which was nice, but we declined and enjoyed the regular margarita. They were good but honestly the tequila was not evident when served in a 16 oz Mason jar. We ordered the Avocado spring rolls and they were good. Our friends had the jalapeño meatloaf and Dolly Pardon salad. They said the meatloaf was excellent although jalapeño was not spicy at all it still had jalapeño chili flavor. It is glazed in sweeter bbq sauce and he enjoyed it alot. She liked her salad but wished she had ordered the Pico bowl which is what my husband and I had. It was excellent and met my expectations. Would have been even better with fresh roasted corn and cojita cheese for extra flavor! Presentation was nice. We had a gentleman come by and ask how our food was and he also talked to us as we were looking at pictures of the bldg plans and family that were up front. I assume he was the manager. I saw many bad reviews that talked about so many bad things that were not evident on our visit. I would definitely return based on this visit and i would recommend you going and giving it a try. I will say the staff looks very young, and that can be great as long as they receive lots of training, have systems in place and are taught what customer service means..it sounds from reviews that lack of staff training has been a past issue. Wow, we really didn't want to believe the negative comments about this restaurant, but they are spot on. Complete fail by management. We arrived with no hostess to greet us. We wandered around for a few minutes, no greeting or acknowledgement by the bartender, and were finally assisted by a waitress. The establishment is absolutely gorgeous, and we asked to sit on the patio with a spectacular view of the little lake. The crab cakes arrived first, and unfortunately it seemed the crab had turned, or was very close. It was sour and fishy. Sent the app back. Dinner showed up more than an hour later, and we were one of only five tables on the patio. The meatloaf sounded great, but the mashed potatoes were sour and the meatloaf was swimming in sweet bbq sauce, which completely overpowered any flavor of the dish. After a few bites I was done. My father had the Pollo Blanco, and the white wine sauce was okay but the chicken was tasteless. He ate half of it was done. The only success was the Shrimp Alfredo, ordered by my stepmom. I say this is a total management failure because the table next to us got one of their entrees our first while the other entree was MIA. The couple sat there as his dish cooled, waiting for hers to arrive. When hers finally did, the man's dish was sent back. The manager care out to check, apologized, and was never seen again. In the restaurant business if a table has a bad experience you bet the manager is making the rounds. Lago used to be very nice. Now it's not. The food is very mediocre Mexican food and is outrageously priced. It's very hot inside we wanted to get away from the heat so we sat inside instead of out but we would've honestly been cooler outside. The service was not at all that good, our waitress didn't fill up our drinks once until our food came out which was about 40-50 minutes. I can see why the place was desolate on a Saturday night.
