As I first walked through the doors I thought. . ."carpet? in a nail salon?" I was re-considering what other yelpers had raved about but thought what the heck and decided to proceed. So I picked out my magazine (which they had a wide selection of), and nail color (they have OPI, yay!) and sat down in the chair. The chair was comfortable enough, but didnt have the deep rolling balls I have grown accustomed to at other salons. Either way, I was ready for my pedicure . . and what a pedicure it was!! The nail technician really took the time to trim up my nails and get rid of the dead skin around the nail (gross I know, but my favorite part!), trimmed my nails nicely, and then gave what must have been a 5 minute massage on each foot! Overall my toes look great! I want to give this place 5 stars but can't for a couple of reasons. First, the carpet, yuck for me in a nail salon. Second, I don't think the buffer and nail file are 'out of the package' fresh upon each use ( I may bring in my own next time just to be safe). Third, there is no place to leave tip on the receipt if you are paying credit card! (If you happen to read this Nail Technician I am so sorry I didn't bring cash and promise to get you next time since I will be back!) If you have the time to visit Lafayette Nails, prepare to be pampered. The ladies take their sweet time massaging your legs and put great care into impeccably shaped french pedicures. The posters and pastel theme pay tribute to the 80's and 90's, but I personally don't go to a nail salon for the decor. They have always gladly taken me as a weekend walk-in and the pedi lasts over a month. Very reasonably priced (they prefer cash), I only wish I saw more sanitary measures in place. This review might be a little biased because I stumble in on a rainy Saturday and was seen right away. Regular mani-pedi combo here is $35 which is not too bad compared to other places in the east bay. The two ladies who tended to my hands and feet were very welcoming! Some times the nail technicians at salons aren't the warmest. The massage was great... lasted long too!! Maybe it was because no one else was waiting so I assume if there was a wait it would be shorter. I was out of the chair and in the drying station, which by the way has a bowl of candy, in an hour. I'm only giving this place 4-stars and not five because parking is a hit or miss since it's street only. I only very lucky and found a spot right in front of the salon. I've been a loyal customer of Lafayette Nails for the past 10 years - the service is usually quick and consistent, technicians are friendly, and the mani/pedis are great. That being said, I came back for the first time in a year or so (having moved out of town) and had a lackluster experience. My sister and I were told we would have to wait 20 minutes before we could be helped, which was fine. After 20 minutes, we were seated in the pedi chairs and continued to wait for an additional half hour as multiple technicians worked on one other customer. The staff wasn't the usual group that works when I've come in, and I was hugely disappointed by the service, or lack thereof, that I experienced. So three stars for quality mani/pedis of the past, but from now on I'll take my business somewhere else when visiting home. read more

First time customer and I have to say I'm quite happy. I was a little skeptical because one of the nail techs didn't speak to me much she also poked under my toe incorrectly causing a bit of pain, nonetheless my experience here was great. The overall smooth operation made the minor blunder almost forgettable. My nails and toes look beautiful and the employees here are very kind and friendly despite the language barrier. I got an acrylic, gel fill and a pedicure and I honestly have no complaints. My nails are very neat and look even better than I imagined. They were also very patient working with my old acrylic from a previous salon as many salons would just start over. Hoping my next time here is equally as great if not better! I was going with my mom to have a fun self care day. When we arrived they were pushy. Even though that we stayed and we both got a pedi and mani with color. When they were cleaning my feet they were really rough with their tools and they jabbed it under my right big toe later my toenail starts to become an ingrown, where my nail is growing into my skin. Which is very painful and there isn't a cure except surgery so I decided to wait for it to grow back to normal. It is better own, it has been about a year but it still hurts every now and then. My mom also got hurt because of the the unsanitary tools that they were jabbing under her nails. Her two nails got infected. We tried many treatments, but they didn't work well. My mom's nails are still infected and have a permanent wave disfigurement. Do not use this nail salon there tools and facility is unsanitary and they cause damage to your nails! I've been coming to this nail salon for eight years now, and decided to treat my mom to a mani/pedi at my favorite salon. This was her first time here so we were very excited! Little did the employees know, my mom is Vietnamese and understood everything that they were saying to each other. The entire time we were there, they were talking about how ugly one of the client's toes were, how fat another client was, and general gossip and s*** talking about all of the customers... They said many other things about my mom that I won't repeat here, but rest assured, I will never come here again. Very rude staff. read more

This place is hit or miss. I went here with my girlfriend to get a pedicure, and we definitely got two different types of service, which was very aggravating because I called ahead to see if they were busy and then make an appointment. When we arrived, there were three employees and no customers. Apparently the lady working on my nails was in a rush because my treatment was about 20 mins shorter than my friend. This was rather bad customer service since there weren't any customers waiting, there was another employee available, and because I had to wait for my friend pedicure to finish. My friend and my pedicures were completely different finished products, mine got clumpy the next day and just didn't look as nice as my friend's. I only giving this place 3 stars instead of 2 because the lady who worked on my friend did a good and for $22 it was a decent price, so if I was to come again I would request the lady who worked on her nails. read more

My friend and I were looking for good nail places near SMC and we saw this one. They were welcoming, and had good quality nail polish (aka OPI). I can be picky when it comes to nail salons, because I don't like it when the workers seemed rushed and just do your nails as fast as they can so you can leave. My first experience was quite pleasant as far as the friendliness of the staff. However, I witnessed first hand the changing of prices for different services. The mother had to remind them of the price they previously quoted & still had to pay for an upgrade if her child wanted to actually sit in the spa chair (instead of an office type chair they have for waiting on your nails to dry) I didn't think much of it at the time, but after calling to schedule an appointment for my young daughter & myself (a special pre-back-to-school day) I was more than disappointed to have a quoted price over 3x that of what the young girl (the SAME age as my daughter) paid the last time I was there. Sadly, I don't think I will be going back even though I was quite excited to meet such a friendly group on my first visit. Maybe I will try it again without my daughter. I'm just very disappointed right now since I thought I had found the fabulous new place I read reviews about here. Great place to get your nails done! Staff is friendly and do a great job. Also, the location is great, kind of hard to miss, however, I love it because I will always get my nails done in peace:) Salon is clean, and they definitely sanitize all their tools. Just got my nails done here today and they did a great job. Took me right away and I was in and out in 45 min. I had originally made an appointment at US nails and when I arrived for my appointment the place wasn't even open! So I left and went here. The girls were very nice and my nails look great! I don't know how clean the implements are. I didn't see anything come out of a new clean package. I like when they use new clean tools out of a package. I wanted to go somewhere close so tried Lafayette Nails. It seems like 90% of the nail salons are staffed by non-English speakers. While that is not the issue, the issue is having conversations in their native language the whole time they're doing your nails. I didn't think they were talking about me - but having a little quiet would have been nice. Once they're done, they hurried us out, brisk. Being Asian myself, I have noticed that some Asian cultures are not trying to be rude - this is just their culture - hurry, hurry - sit - give me your feet- get up - move here - bye bye.
