We made a reservation since we had a larger party. Our service was great, and they were kind enough to bring out a birthday cake that we brought and sang happy birthday. The potato pancakes, stuffed banana peppers, and a special fried green tomato appetizer were delicious. Every entree comes with soup or salad, and many of us greatly enjoyed their wedding soup. This is a no fuss good food restaurant. My waitress was friendly and as attentive as she could be with it seeming like she was the only one in the upstairs area. The garlic cheese bread was on the special menu but I hope that's just for show because i need that all the time. It was just so good and the marinara was sweet like I like it. The fettuccine was pretty good tasted fresh but I wish it had more flavor, The chicken was definitely bland the sauce it self wasn't too bad. I enjoyed my wedding soup, not the best I've ever had but pretty good as well. I'd come back for an easy weekday dinner if I didn't feel like cooking. In my experience, the management and employees of this restaurant in Springdale PA are all about the drama. I haven't been there in several years, but the last few times that I visited, I overheard employees complaining about each other and about the management. If this had happened only one time, I would have chalked this off as an anomaly. However, it happened more than one time. Extremely unprofessional, in my opinion. I believe that the management encourages drama. The owner has announced several different times that she is "closing." Then, she later changes her mind and decides to stay open. If you Google the name of this restaurant, you will find several articles in our local newspaper announcing the "closing" of this restaurant. (These articles were all in the Valley News Dispatch / Trib, in Western Pennsylvania.) The management stirred up drama on Facebook today. According to the Facebook post, the management was offended because they claimed that the establishment offered "fine dining," and someone called them out on this. IMO, this restaurant is NOT fine dining because the employees are unprofessional enough to complain about the management and about other employees while they are within hearing distance of customers. read more

We were greeted warmly at the door and our reserved booth was ready. The restaurant is old and quaint. Booths are wood and not comfortable. The acoustics are such that when there is a loud patron, as there was during our visit, that person's voice reverberates through the dining room. Our service from AJ was excellent: she is friendly, welcoming, attentive, prompt, and efficient. She performed a quality check. My fried zucchini appetizer and Reuben sandwich were great. The potato pancake was so-so. My girlfriend's cup of clam chowder and steak salad were ample and good. There is a huge selection of dishes across a broad price range: sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, calzones, and entrees like chicken parmesan. I like that there is a shaker of grated cheese on the tables. Back to Ladles today, after Covid, glad they are still in business after a period where they announced permanent closure. My food: a fresh salad that was atypical, nicely mixed greens and one of the best blue cheese dressings in Pittsburgh. I had the Chicken Parmesan sandwich. Nice marinara (did you know Ladles serves pasta too?) and we were surprised by the "Fancy Ketchup" not being the Pittsburgh staple: Heinz. My co-diner had a mushroom and cheese omelette. I love this restaurant. We ordered takeout and everyone really enjoyed what they received. I personally had the grilled steak salad and the steak was delicious, wasn't overcooked and the salad and vegetables were fresh. My husband had a bacon cheeseburger and was happy with his food, and my son had the grilled cheese which was honestly enough to feed an adult. Ladles has a really extensive offering of soup but we didn't get any on this visit and I am regretting that considering how good everything was. We get a lot of takeout and it's always a bummer when it's cold, fries are soggy, etc and this wasn't the case. It was still hot when we arrived home. I gave four out of five stars because I wish there were more options on the kids menu, an option for gluten free bread on their sandwiches (because they lo so good) and I wish they'd switch up the menu or add new items more often. Tonight I went with my friend to ladles. As I have not been there, I like to get chicken parmesan when I go to different places. Tonight I ordered chicken parmesan and it came out burnt and crispy. I asked the waitress if this is how it's supposed to be served and she said she would take it back to the kitchen. Well a little while later they brought me out the chicken parmesan and it was perfect. I love lobster and have eaten it cooked many ways but I have to say the Lobster Scampi Pasta at Ladles was out of this world delicious! There were also many other options for lobster. My family had a half of a grilled chicken salad which was huge; a whaler which was a giant piece of fish and a cowboy grilled cheese sandwich. When I notified the waitress immediately after the first bite, the manager threw my entire entree (including the lobster which was fine) in the trash and told me that there was nothing he could do for me. It was my first time trying Ladles in Springdale. My parents have been there before and enjoyed it - so they wanted to take me. So when we were in that part of town, my mom and I hit up Ladles for lunch. FYI: They serve breakfast until 2pm the weekends - but we got the restaurant at 2:05pm - just in time for the beginning of lunch. I was surprised how busy it was for Saturday afternoon - mostly all of the tables in the main dining room were filled. Luckily, a table just opened up, so we had just had to wait a few minutes while they cleaned it off. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. To start, I ordered a cup of the wedding soup. Ladles is known for their variety of soups, so they have a lot to choose from. Wedding soup is one of my favorite soups, so I wanted to try theirs. I enjoyed the soup and would definitely get it again. For my main entree, I originally ordered the Chicken Parm Sandwich, but ended up switching to the Chicken Parm entree. The sandwich comes with fries or a potato pancake where as the entree comes with a side of spaghetti and dinner rolls. The entree came with two generous pieces of chicken and a decent side of spaghetti. My only complaint about the chicken parmigiana entree was that the tomato sauce had a ton of large cut up onions in it - they hadn't puréed the onions in the sauce. Menu says it is drizzled in wine sauce should have said drowning in sauce. It was accompanied by cold masked potatoes. We had to ask for regular Italian bread with our dinner as the stale , dry herbed type of bread they served was horrible. We splurged for chocolate cake with peanut butter icing, good but at least a day old if not more. I was so disappointed as it had been at least a year since we ate there, when it used to be good. I want to rate this place better but I just can't, maybe if I try it again and a few things are different but 3 stars for now. The service was initially a little strange, half of our party arrived before the others and the server immediately asked if it was going to be one check or separate, no greeting no asking for drinks. It was a little strange and then they really pushed the drink special but didn't know what it was. The food was just ok, the best thing we got was probably the gnocchi Rosa but everything with red sauce sat in about an inch of water. I have always had nice experiences here (for breakfast). The staff is very friendly and there is a cozy, homey feel. The service and prompt and even at the busiest times, food comes out quickly and hot. I like the fact that you can get a bloody Mary with breakfast and also that Syrian bread is an option. (If you are in the Valley area alot of places have Syrian bread, just ask, you won't regret it) Of course, i got the corned beef and eggs. My go-to. It was good, simple and good. I think it would have been better if I had added peppers and onions, but you have to ask and I totally forgot. My husband and I stumbled across Ladles in a quick google search when we first moved to the area. We made a quick pickup order and it was still hot and delicious when we arrived home. We were still in the unpacking process and just gobbled and went about our day. We stopped by on Friday for breakfast- and we are SO glad that we did! They have the cutest patio area to dine outside- weather permitting. When we arrived it was on the cusp of lunch but we were still able to order breakfast. I had the stuffed French toast with strawberries with an add on side of bacon. The portion was perfect and scrumptious is an understatement. The vanilla cream cheese stuffing was perfectly sandwiches between my French toast and wasn't overly sweet. Strawberries were ripe and the whipped cream was a nice addition, no syrup needed here! My husband ordered the spicy chicken hash per the recommendation of our waitress. It did not disappoint! The portion size was amazing and the hash was delicious. I started with wedding soup which was tasty and everyone else got crab bisque which they raved about. We split mama's meatballs for an appetizer and they were fall apart tender with great taste.
