I stopped by Fat Cat's Subs after taking my son to a practice at Pittsburgh Indoor Sports Arena. It is an odd looking building from the outside. Inside it is a cozy little sub shop. Chill ownership and staff. Solid, filling fare. I've tried the Italian sub, a cheesesteak and a hot chicken Italian hoagie. All were good to great. The whole sub is quite large so be hungry. read more

If your order is made by the owner you are in good shape if it's made by the assistant manager for get about it. I've gotten 40-50 pepper steaks from them since it was Rudy's maybe more always great. Order from assist manager more like a lettuce bun hoagie. read more

Had my first hoagie from here this past week. And let me tell it was life changing! When it comes to hoagies, there are a lot of choices within a mile radius. We decided to try a brand new place and it was the best decision! Employees were very nice and answered my questions. Ambiance was that of pizza/sub shop. First time visitor . Had a mushroom cheesesteak and fries . Wife had cheese steak with peppers . Enjoyed the sandwich , was not greasy , just wished there was more cheese on it to make it less dry. Wife enjoyed hers except the onions and peppers were a little undercooked . Bread was very good and fries were very good as well . Will try again. We were driving by and decided to stop in and check it out. I went with the bacon & turkey club with shoestring fries and it was delicious! My fiance went with a steak hoagie with cheese wiz and fries. It was very good as well. The staff was very helpful and friendly and service was quick. We dined in and had an overall great experience. Worth a stop if you happen to be in the area! Don't let the inside or location/outside fool you. I ordered the wild cat (and with the suggestion of the cashier, added buffalo sauce) - it was unique! Neat little sub shop. Clean also! Really friendly staff! I think this use to be Rudy's Subs but change a while back. "The Purrrrfect Sub". Nice slogan; and the hoagie sub was really good. Also, the "soon to be famous" homemade potato chips were top notch. They had homemade chili and lots of subs, fresh cut fries and even some pizza. Next time will need to try THE FAT CAT sub, an interesting combo of cheeseburger sub with Capacolla, Egg, Bacon, Provolone, Onions, Peppers and more! read more

This is your typical outskirts-of-Pittsburgh sub shop. It is close to my hometown so out of convenience I've been here a few times when visiting family. There are times when the subs have been better than others. But generally they are just okay. The warm subs are a bit soggy at times, though not bad. I tend to get the chicken parm sub and it is usually good enough! The inside of the location isn't great. I wouldn't really eat in, but takeout is fine. Overall, just so-so. This was my first visit. Had a steak sub and fresh cut seasoned fries and overall, everything was good. I was surprised how fast my food came out (and if there was one gripe about the sandwich...it's that the onions could have used a few more mins on the grill to become awesome) and overall I enjoyed it. As a side note, the guy working the register was nice and helpful. Outside of that, the place isn't the cleanest that I've been to. And the time I was there (I got some work done while I was eating) the 3 ppl who were apparently on the clock there could have been making the place more presentable. They were just chilling because I was the only one in there. It was 1pm on a Thursday, it could have been busier...I'm sure these things are related. If the place had just been of "normal" cleanliness, it would be a 4-5 based on the lunch I had. Dear owner, you're paying your workers anyway...get your place clean. read more

This place was great. Kind and helpful staff and the food was great ! I had a 'stuffed hot dog' - it was a hot dog with chilli and cheese that was wrapped in a tortilla and then deep-fried ! Homemade chilli on what appeared to be hand cut fries. Try this place if you get a chance! read more

I thought the hoagies were good. Then I watched my cold hoagie being made without gloves! Isn't wearing gloves to prepare food others will consume basic food prep?! I will never eat anything from this place when unwashed hands touch my food. And when I asked staff why gloves were not worn to prepare my food they had no answer for their actions. To prove my point I visited again, ordered my sandwich and again no gloves while making my sub! I asked for my refund and explained exactly why I will never return and will tell others not to as well! read more

This is my new favorite Sub shop. It was so good the first time for lunch that I wanted to return for dinner. I brought my whole family there today and all enjoyed their subs. The Boys 14 and 12 years old got a half chicken parm and a half meatball sub. They were very happy with their subs. The Wife ordered half a Fish and I ordered a Fat Cats Steak along with Fries. The first time there I ask if the hoagie buns were from Cellone Bakery which is the best sub bun ever and was told yes. So if in the area of Cheswick, Harmar, Springdale or just passing through you owe it to yourself to give Fat Cat's a try. Eh, this place is your typical frozen food that they deep fry to make edible. Place has been under construction for over 2 years and isn't the cleanest place in the world. A bit more expensive than you would think for the quality of food. They consider a chicken parm sub a speciality sub and charge 10 bucks for a whole.the biggest thing that turns me off is the sign above the door that says "please come back, I need the money." It's never a good look to beg for business in my opinion. read more

Got a rib eye salad. Asked the guy at the register if it was good, expecting a response like "....a lot of people like X better...". He said "I don't eat salads". I got the salad and it was about a half head of iceberg lettuce barely chopped with maybe 3oz of meat on top and a handful of mozarella thrown on top. Marzetti Italian packet for dressing. The drink machine made some godawful noise when I was using it, I got the attention of one of three people putting together food behind the counter to tell him. He shrugged and went back to what he was doing. A one-star to me means the food isn't fresh. The lettuce was fresh and clean, but hell, I spent about $12.50 for my meal and felt ripped off. read more

Got the gyro sub with seasoned fries. The fries were the best part, crunchy and the seasoning is good.

I got the steak supreme and it was delicious! Bread was fresh. Steak and peppers were well cooked. Would definitely recommend!

This place is just as it posts - good drunk food at 2am. So, if you aren't drunk, I would NOT recommend.

After this sub shop was sold and placed under new ownership, it's been all down hill. The original Rudy's used to be our families favorite but after the switch, it hasn't been the same. Food was undercooked and overpriced. Service was prompt but the place was very dirty. The simple fact that their sign says "eat here I need the money" and they charge $3 to use a credit card says it all. I hope someone can turn it around. read more
