    fried zucchini

Al's was our back up for the night, when our initial place had a 2 hour wait and we were HUNGRY. At Al's we were seated right away, they were busy but it was nothing crazy. Our server was very nice and gave us the time we needed to look over their menu. There were so many things that sounded good that it took is some time to make a decision. As an app we got the fried zucchini. They were some large planks and pretty good. Whenever I get a chance to eat some pasta I do it and Al's gave me that opportunity. For my main I got their Shrimp tortellini. It had spinach, portabella mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, and cheese filled tortellini with grilled chicken or shrimp in a roasted garlic cream sauce. Loved all the veggies, especially the portabella mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes. The sauce had the perfect amount of garlic. I even had enough for a small box of leftovers. It came with a salad and its been so long since I've had a nice fresh salad from a restaurant.

I have heard many good things about Al's Cafe but didn't have the chance to visit it until yesterday. I went for lunch with my Mother and youngest kid. We were seated right away. They have a lot of seating areas. There seemed to be quite a bit of people there for lunch but the wait time for ordering and food arrival was good. We both ordered wraps. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap and it was by far the best I have had. They had rice in it! Soo yummy. Also the actual wrap was a jalapeño cheese wrap and that took it up a notch also. Then the fries were awesome also. My mother got the steak wrap and that was equally as interesting and tasty. They had coleslaw in it. It was definitely messier to eat but still so good. I look forward to coming back and trying another item off the menu. There were some salads I would like to try and also a burger. Pricing was a little more pricey for a lunch than other places but only by a couple dollars and I definitely think it was worth it by the taste of our food.

Al's cafe is family owned, and has been around for quite some time. When you walk through the doors, it's like you're in a rustic cabin. Tall ceilings, cabin walls, fireplaces, mounted animals on the wall - very rustic, and very clean and well maintained. It has been YEARS, and I mean YEARS since I've been here - although we pass it pretty much weekly. We stopped in on New Year's Eve, because we noticed it was open when we drove by. The menu is giant, and there is nothing sandwich or entree wise for less than $15. There is an insert in the menu that states their menu prices have surged due to recent cost increases. My husband and I both agreed everything was good, just overpriced.

This ended up being an expensive place to grab lunch. We stopped here for a late lunch since we were in the area and found out Al's likely had a pinball machine. It looked like a small place from outside, but the interior was actually HUGE and very spacious. There are large dining areas as well as a bar and two small game rooms. (They do have a pinball machine in one of them.) It generally has a "fraternal order club" type atmosphere. The prices were higher than we expected, but we chose our selections and ordered. After getting our food, we heard someone at another table ask for a lunch menu, and the server said she'd get one for them. So, if you are eating at lunch time, ask for a lunch menu! I don't know the prices/portions of those, but they would likely be more appropriate. Throughout our visit, our server was disinterested, maybe distracted. It appeared to have started when we ordered waters, but that could have been a coincidence. Maybe it was the sight of a kid, although the place does feel family-friendly. In any case, she definitely wasn't thrilled to have us at her table, but she also wasn't rude. Our food was prepared quickly, and was just okay. The pasta and sauce tasted store-bought, but they were cooked Al Dente. The meals were served with needed, though also not very flavorful, Parmesan cheese. The spaghetti was served with a spoon -- to help with spinning the noodles onto a fork, I'm presuming. The menu items we selected didn't end up being anything special, and didn't warrant the prices. The salt shaker on our table had been neglected. I needed to add some flavor to my marinara sauce, and shook it over my food without checking it. No salt dispensed. So, I took a look and it was a bit gross. I then proceeded to remove the lid and use a table napkin to clean the clogged salt. I also buffed the tops of the shakers with a clean napkin. I think it helped, but I may start carrying salt packets with me to restaurants since this reminded me shakers are often overlooked. Overall, Al's Cafe was an okay place to eat. We likely won't return, but I wouldn't warn people away from it.

This place reminds me of old supper clubs back in the UP of Wisconsin and Michigan All slate rock, weird 60'/early 70's art, deer heads, fish mounted, fireplace and etc. This place is really large and I am sure you can rent it out for a party and etc. This place is old Skool. We went for lunch, my Dad got the Tossed Salad with Soup. (With both of our meals we got the tossed salad) What was nice the salad was crisp with different mixed greens, grape tomatoes, cucumbers and red onion I could have done with out the slightly stale croutons. A nice touch was that it was put into a cold bowl and dressing was on the side. I'll be frank I prefer that. He also got the Wedding Soup, looked homemade but he said it was a bit salty. I got the Meatloaf (sorry no photos) and it came with salad and mashed potatoes. The meatloaf was tasty but the presentation was poor. Why everything was covered in brown gravy and I mean everything. The only touch of color was a few sprigs for flat leaf parsley. It was just so brown. Also slightly salty but in a good way. We did not get dessert Our server was pleasant enough as was the host who seated us. I give this place outta 5 stars 3.5 I get it it's been around for a long time, I love the kitch but TV's everywhere in the joint. I feel you might wanna talk to your dinner companion's it maybe it's just me. This type of place could really shine with a slight freshening up and a paired down menu. I get the feeling this place caters to older folks and big parties. I know I'm not from here but I have family who still live here. You might like it, but it's unfortunately not a place I'd be fast to recommend. They have there own private parking lot.

I'll post a photo of the menu, but here are some of my thoughts: Turkey - so delicious Mashed potatoes - perfection Stuffing - I loved it but the kids didn't. Honestly they probably would have preferred Stove Top though. Green beans - very tasty but not great as a leftover Cranberry chutney - ok, I love the canned stuff but this was truly a hit. Rolls and butter - literally such delicious butter! Apple pies - they were more like empanadas. I was expecting mini round pies. The crust was amazing but the apples were a bit tart. The pickup was easy and seamless. Everything was packed well. Thank you! We can't wait to come in to eat soon.

Our waitress Ellie was attentive, patient, and helpful for our party of 9. She was even willing to give some of the guests tea bags from her own stash! Our group of 9 tried almost everything on the menu. They have a small menu with a few appetizers and main courses along with some desserts. Because we were a larger group, at least one of us got something on the menu. We also shared, so I tried many of the dishes! They gave us an amuse bouche, which was aracini with caramelized onions and peppers. DELICIOUS. I wanted more. We also got foccacia with an oil dipping sauce. The focaccia was denser than usual, but I loved it! Here's what we tried: [Sausage Greens & Beans]: A traditional Italian dish that was absolutely delicious. There was so much flavor between the panchetta, beans, escarole, and sausage. This dish was out of my comfort zone but so delightful. [Crispy Brussel Sprouts]: Man! These were good. They were perfectly charred and paired with a spicy sauce that took this dish to the next level. [Wedding Soup]: A little non-traditional since their noodles were much larger, but I loved the denser meatballs. [Caesar Salad]: My husband loved this dish! The croutons made the dish extra, and it was well dressed and slightly lemony. [Warm Mushroom Salad]: I hate mushrooms but I loved this. The rosemary smoked mushrooms were the star of this dish. [Shrimp Risotto]: This was so creamy and flavorful! [Chicken Marsala]: This dish was out of this world! The rosemary smoked mushrooms gave this dish a perfectly smokey flavored. The chicken was stuffed and accompanied with lyonnaise potatoes that were so crispy and delicious. [Roasted Veggie Rolled Lasagna]: Wow was this dish flavorful. The variety of vegetables were perfect, and the roaster red pepper ricotta in the middle was just what this dish needed. [Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie]: This was the perfect fall dessert. Apple turnovers, peaches, and pumpkin pie mousse. The perfection portion and not overly sweet! This restaurant made it to my top 5, and it was so delicious. All of the flavors were so complex! You need to try this restaurant or you'll really be missing out! I cannot wait to try more items on their menus as their specials and menu changes. Such a hidden gem!

Our server was quick to take our drink order and tell us about the specials. The menu has a nice variety of appetizers, salads, meat and pasta dishes. I settled on the lasagna which was a special and got the Manhattan clam chowder soup as it's something I rarely see on a menu. We were brought a basket of fresh Italian bread which was wonderful. The soup arrived and it wasn't what I expected. The broth was thin, very little clam and just very different than I have ever had. Not my favorite. My lasagna arrived looking great. I love sauce and there was lots of extra sauce on the plate. The biggest problem I had was that it was barely warm.
