Welp came to check it out since some friends were hyping it up... i started of with the basic order a Corona and Coke, when i got my drinks corona wasnt cold at all coke was the same, looks like their fridge isnt working or something, next it took them a while until they came back so i can request my appetizer but ended up ordering both at the same time, so i order the siziling Fajitas Jalapeno and they sure did disappoint this has nothing authentic written on is meat was pretty tough lets not mention they fail to let me know that the plate were the beens and cold salad was that it was freaking hot(dont know the reason why) burn my fingers Well guess what right after i received my food it took them until i was basically finished for them to come back and ask if i needed anything else. Wonderful Mexican ambience, very pleasant folks. I had item #100 under seafood (pictured) and it was phenomenal. Perfect shrimp and fabulous onion sauce. Very surprising experience. Really tasty fajitas! We got the Texas fajitas for 2 and they were awesome. The shrimp is the real star though. I just moved back from Hawaii and let me tell you... The Mexican food there is mediocre at best. We stopped in here by chance and I'm glad we did! I haven't had good, and reasonably priced, fajitas, in years, and these hit the mark. Bean and cheese nachos- my best guess: food was cooked and then left under the heat lamp too long waiting for the other meal to be cooked until the chips burned. They tried to cover the cheese and chip burn with a couple of tablespoons of refried beans on top before serving. Those beans were cold, everything underneath was piping hot. Also, no lettuce, no tomato, no sour cream- just burnt chips, burnt cheese, and some refried beans. They did HALF-comp this appetizer, but we didn't eat any of it. Guacamole salad- consisted of two or maybe three leaves of iceberg lettuce, one slice of tomato (cut in half), and maybe (I'm being generous here) half a tablespoon of guacamole. I think it was $3.99; wasn't worth .50¢. Spinach enchiladas- no flavor at all, needed onions or at least some spice, anything would have been an improvement. Spinach in a tortilla, nothing more. Refried beans were served without sour cream. Fried ice cream was good. Sooo many restaurants in Williamsburg. Find yourself another one. Don't waste your money here. read more

I picked up an order of their beef fajitas and they are horrible. They aren't even "real" fajitas. Instead of strips of skirt steak these are chunks of meat full of gristle and fat. They are extremely chewy and have no flavor. I lived in Texas and Arizona for years and had great Mexican food and the public there wouldn't keep this place open. read more

Place was decent. Salsa isn't hot but I've never been to a Mexican restaurant that serves even warm salsa. The white cheese dip was really runny. The margaritas were weak. But the food was good and the fried ice cream even better. I do not recommend the sopapilla, it is just a fried piece of tortilla with cinnamon sugar on top. It's hard not fluffy and soft. read more

La Tolteca is one of our favorite restaurants in Williamsburg. We have vacationed here for more than 6 years and stop in here every trip. It's your typical kitschy looking Mexican restaurant, with bright and vibrant colors which makes your dining experience just a little more fun. The food is amazing. We have eaten here more than dozen times and have never been disappointed. I personally love the Chile Rellenos. They even have a kids menu for fussy eaters. My son always eats the free chips (oh yes free chips!) and mac-n-cheese with smilies (round potato fries in the shape of a smile). The prices are very reasonable, typically our meal is around $30 for the 3 of us and we always have leftovers. Everyone is friendly and attentive. We are from the Philly area and our go-to is called La Azteca, also a good place, better than you think since it's hidden in a strip mall. So we have compared Mexican foods before (as well as chains like Don Pablos, or Chi Chi's) La Tolteca is so far number one. read more

This restaurant is definitely a gem. I was craving Mexican food during midterms week, so I decided to hit this place up since it was the ONLY Mexican food restaurant within a 5 mile radius that served Mole AND horchata. Upon entering, I felt like I teleported to Mexico. The interior was definitely theme-related. The exterior was, too. The Mole that I ordered was absolutely divine. I had a margarita and some Mexican rice with my meal, which was equally delectable. I also ordered the horchata, a Mexican soft drink, and it reminded me of my hometown (LA). I would highly suggest this restaurant to anyone craving Mexican food. You will be rewarded with amazing and authentic Mexican food. The only downside I see is the price. Good quality food for the price. I consider it on par with Jose Tequilas as far as value for money. The drinks are also pretty good here. They have outdoor seating, which is pleasant on a nice day. If I could choose no stars I would. Food was not great. The waitress was new to the country and had never made a margarita before. She made three margaritas for three people with only two shots. We only found out when we asked why it tasted so bad. Almost $7 for lemon water. This used to be the main Mexican restaurant in town. We even visited there back when they were just in a hotel. My family and I came here last night because the restaurant was right next door to our hotel. Service was prompt, our food came out hot and delicious. Prices were reasonable and my frozen peach margarita was good. The give you chips and salsa at the beginning of your meal, but they also include a sour cream sauce on the side that was excellent. If we ever happen to be in Williamsburg again, we'll be sure to come again. read more

Last minute finds are usually the best finds! From the moment we walked into the door, it was all Spanish, colorful and joyful. We were promptly served with our drinks. The menu was loooong - which is normally a great thing for me but I was so hungry I gave up reading half way and just went with the cilantro lime chicken and everything that came with it. The chicken looked a bit burnt on the corner (reason why they're not getting 5 stars) but it was pretty tasty regardless. The guac was amazing! No tomatoes, just the way I like it! I've driven past this place twice a day for months and have never taken the time to eat here. We finally just decided to eat here. I'm glad we did. We were seated immediately, our drinks brought to us without delay, and our food was brought out quickly after it was ordered. I'm Mexican American, born & raised in the San Fernando Valley. They had Jarritos as you walked in- good sign. When we were offered drinks, I asked if they had horchata. He said yes. Another great sign that good eats were coming. I ordered the Veracruz Tacos- being the difficult person my husband has come to love, I asked for tortillas de maiz instead of harina. My server said it was no problem. Kiddo asked for Arroz con Pollo. Hubbs his carne asada burrito. My dish was perfect. Three tacos with huge & tasty whole shrimp, each with a slice of aguacate & pico de gallo on the side. The pico was perfect, it had chunks of either serrano or fresh jalapeño. It also came with arroz. It wasn't bad. The horchatas were huge. The 3 of us could have shared one drink. I enjoyed my meal & packed one of my tacos, rice & half of kiddo's meal. Terrible meal for Cinco De Mayo. Floors were dirty, tables were dirty. Server didn't refill drinks of his own volition or return to see how the meal was. My refried beans were warm when received but so overcooked that they were a hard mass, although my mom's were fine. My fajitas tasted like absolutely nothing. She asked if she could get additional sauce for her dry carnitas (the special) and was told there was no way to get additional sauce. All in all it was an extremely disappointing experience. The best Mexican food and margaritas for the best price in Williamsburg! My friend and I had Hannah as a server and she was extremely kind and accommodating to our gluten allergy. Definitely request her if she's available! They also offer fantastic catering trays available for an extremely low price. La Tolteca is a great authentic mexican restaurant with a bar area, but also perfect setting for a family. The Chile Rellanos are amazing; they are beef and cheese filled anaheim peppers, but not fried. The prices are fair and the food is delicious! La Tolteca has the most authentic Mexican food I have been able to find so far in VA. Everything was absolutely spot on and every bit as good as Most of the places we used to frequent in San Diego. It is too bad that it is such a long drive for us or we would be here all the time. Anyone not giving this place 5 stars knows nothing about real Mexican food. read more

We had a chance to check this place out for dinner on one of our trips to Williamsburg. Very good food and excellent service. Nice selection of vegetarian items, but I was disappointed that they do not have table-side guacamole. If I was in the mood for Tex-Mex in Williamsburg, I would definitely eat here again. If you don't look for this place, you will miss it. Somehow the signage and the building does not stand out. This however is not indicative of the food. La Tolteca serves outstanding Mexican food. My favorite is the steak fajitas. The price is reasonable and their portions are huge. The casual atmosphere and friendly servers makes this one of our go to restaurants in Williamsburg. If you are looking for fine dining and wines, this is not your place. If you want excellent Mexican foods and genuine draft Mexican beers, this is the place you should try. read more
