Chicken enchiladas lunch special
Marissa M.

Visited El Cerro for their Lunch Special today. While service was great and the dining space was very nice, the food was mediocre. We decided to sit on the patio which was very nice. I ordered the chicken enchiladas lunch special and horchata. No flavor at all. They also served my food with a white onion, which isn't flavorful or served with mexican dishes. Mole sauce was ok. Horchata was just ok. The free queso with Yelp Check in was the best part of the meal. All in all, if you're in the area and looking for a cheap lunch, this will get the job done.

My friends and always come here for drinks and dinner! The margaritas are bigger than your head and the food is covered in the perfect amount of cheese and grease. They do 15% off food for NCSU students which is definitely an added bonus. The staff is always very friendly and we never have waited long for our drinks or food to come out. Definitely recommend if you are craving some delicious Mexican food and/or you are balling on a budget.

Very solid authentic Mexican food and atmosphere, I didn't wait long. My Beef Chimichangas were great, but it could use more variety in the filling, as in beef and pepper in oppose to straight beef, but that's wholly a nitpick on my end. Definitely recommend for dates!

Burrito Azteca

This unassuming place was long ago a Rockola chain. Now it serves up much better food than it did then at a better price. I ordered Nachos Tapatio which was a huge plate of steak, chicken and shrimp over chips smothered in queso. Husband got a huge Burrito Azteca smothered in three different sauces. Yes, we ate it all. Delish. Great service; happy tummies.

Enchiladas supreme

Located right next to Sammy's near NC state, it's a great spot for those who fancy some Mexican. There was a Groupon for the restaurant so decided to try it out. Stepped into the restaurant to order takeout from them. I ordered the Pollo Chipotle for 12 bucks and their enchilada supreme for 10 bucks. After ordering, it literally took them 2 minutes to finish making my order. Freaky fast! Not sure if it's a good or bad thing? Makes me wonder if their stuff is prepped up ahead of time and sitting under a heat lamp. It was piping hot thru the to go containers though. The Pollo chicken was decent, maybe on the dryer side but the Chipotle cream sauce was pretty good - not really spicy at all. It came with rice beans, and a salad. The enchiladas tasted good as well and came with side of salad. The sauce on the enchiladas was tomato sauce. Overall, good experience. The Groupon made it really worth it.

El Cerro! This has been one of my favorite places to visit since I moved to Raleigh for school. I've gotten so many items on the menu but by far my favorite is the quesadilla blanca. I mean that's absolutely delicious how could you not love melted cheese over a quesadilla? I went yesterday again with my family and they all loved it too. The staff are always so nice and normally the food comes out before you even feel like you ordered it! I have yet to try the bar area but it seems like a fun place to have a drink with friends! This is one meal I could tear into, bare hands. I love the soft lighting and beautiful colors throughout the restaurant.

This was soooo good to me A.C.C. Ground Beef Hard Taco

Came in for lunch with some coworkers and I must say it was a good experience. I order the one taco with beans and rice and it was delicious. I sort of filled up on the chips and dip before my order came out. The restaurant was clean and it wasn't very crowded for it to be lunch time. Our server was very nice as well. Decorations are inviting and gives an 'Island' feel to it. I definitely recommend this place. It was worth the money of which I did not pay over $15.00 for my meal.

Tiras de Pollo

It was an evening destined for some experimentation, and we were craving Mexican fare. We wanted to venture out of our norm to try a different spot in town and chose El Cerro. We called in and spoke to a super friendly staff member who politely took our order. We asked for take-out and she said give it about 15 ton20 mins. We drove there, and as I walked in I noticed some covid related signage to keep patrons safe. As I waited I noticed there were quite a few folks there, but all following protocol sitting every other table, etc. Cleanliness was on point, which is always a plus! The hostess got my name, brought back my order, I paid and I was out the door in under 5 mins. We kept it simple ordering 2 Tiras de Pollo entrees, which is my staple when assessing the quality of a Mexican restaurant. I opened the food bag and was appeased by some quality looking plates with some chips / salsa on the side. The Tiras de Pollo was nice, but could have used some more flavor or seasoning. Don't get me wrong, it was still good,, but could have been great. Everything else with the meal was great. Overall, I plan to venture back and try other parts of the menu soon. Don't shy away from El Cerro!

The staff who greeted us was extremely friendly and accommodating. We were sat with the stipulation that there was a reservation behind us in an hour and a half which was very doable for us. I do not partake in alcohol so I was appreciative of the zero proof menu options. I ordered the Jesse and it was sweet but sour, it balanced itself very well. My fiance loved his old fashioned with an orange and fig bourbon. Our waiter was direct and down to business, likely because they were busy, but a great waiter none the less. The food was excellent! Elevated American bar food that was cooked to perfection and had some nice fusion flavors: sesame tuna with edamame, goat cheese, walnuts and a special kind of beet that made my salad fresh and earthy. Truffle and onions with smashed burger dipped in bubbly cheese is a comfort food dream. Same with the Mac n cheese with bacon, really tickles the indulgence fancy! I do recommend this place, especially if you have friends who love bourbon or other kinds of whiskey!

It was very tart like cranberry and not very strong. I also ordered the grilled chicken sliders no mayo or tomato. It came with two. They were tasty. Slightly overcooked, but the cheese helped enough. I also had to order fries on the slide, which was slightly disappointing because the two sliders are already $15 and fries $8.50, even though I didn't order the side sauces that come with it. It felt $2 overpriced in both instances. I don't know if I'd get again, but the fries were seasoned well. My fiancé ordered the braised pork shoulder. The meat was tender and had a decent flavor. The mac and cheese was okay, nothing special. Overall, the dish was drowned in too much barbecue sauce to the point he felt he was eating more sauce than the entree. He subbed sprouts with fries, which were tasty. He wouldn't order again. It was a big portion though. Service was good. Music was okay, a bit random, but still fun.

The cocktails are top notch and always made perfect. The best thing about Crunkleton that I have seen done rarely is that they carve their own crystal clear ice at the bar. I've so many new bars that have opened up that don't even have a big ice for drinks like Old Fashioneds or just a whiskey on a rock. Coming to the food, i've tried a bunch of things and my favorites are their Tomahawk steak, Caesar salad & wings. They do happy hour specials as well. If you haven't been then definitely check it out.

From the moment you walk in, you get this sophisticated, upscale atmosphere with warm, dim lighting that creates an intimate dining experience without feeling too dark. They also have a lovely outdoor seating area, although no one was sitting outside during our visit. The bar is absolutely gorgeous and has an impressive selection of wines and spirits. We originally planned to sit at a table but decided to move to the bar instead, which is how I was able to admire the beautiful bar. The staff was wonderful! From the hostess to our server, everyone was friendly, welcoming, and attentive. My brother and I shared the Tomahawk Steak, which came with fries, and charred bread. The portion was definitely generous enough for two people, possibly three, depending on your appetite. We actually had a little left over! We ordered our ribeye medium, but some portions were noticeably less cooked than we expected, closer to medium-rare. Personally, I would probably order medium-well next time to get a result closer to my preference. As far as flavor, the steak was alright. I felt the actual meat could have used more seasoning, particularly salt. Interestingly, the fat on the ribeye was absolutely delicious! It had so much flavor, and I found that pairing a small piece of the flavorful fat with a bite of the leaner meat made the steak much more enjoyable. That combination really brought out the flavor! I just wish more of that delicious seasoning had carried through to the meat itself. The sides, however, were really good! The vegetables were enjoyable, and even the simple charred bread was delicious. Sometimes the simplest things are done exceptionally well! Another bonus was that we visited on a Tuesday, when the ribeye was half off! That definitely made the meal feel like a great value, especially considering the generous portion size. Now, here's where things got interesting: THE BURGER! The person sitting next to us ordered a burger, and it looked absolutely amazing. We ended up ordering a regular cheeseburger to go for one of my kids, and let me tell you, that burger was delicious! I managed to sneak a small bite before it disappeared, and it was juicy, flavorful, and honestly more enjoyable than the ribeye. Would I return? Absolutely! Although the ribeye wasn't my favorite steak, it certainly wasn't bad. Everyone has different preferences when it comes to steak, and someone else may absolutely love it. For me, I would have preferred a little more seasoning throughout the meat and a slightly higher cooking temperature. Between the beautiful atmosphere, welcoming staff, generous portions, and that delicious cheeseburger, this place is definitely worth visiting. Next time, I'm ordering the burger!
