Finally checked out La Tapatia and was surprised- Its a cozy little mexican place close to an HEB off Hero Way. I never went as the exterior is pretty unassuming but it was surprisingly warm on the inside! I actually ended up going two days in a row as the food was so good. One thing I immediately noticed is the free chips are made fresh- they came out with piping hot with some salsa. On the first day i got a pastor torta cubana (pretty rare in cedar park/leander) and it was stacked! It was loaded with all the toppings, they did not skimp. Nice to have a place with tortas nearby. I came back the next day and I tried their seafood. I got shrimp ceviche, which came with tostadas and toppings (limes/avocado/mayo). It was light and delicious. As id skipped breakfast it also got a breakfast taco...it was HUGE! Mexican scrambled eggs and cheese. And super reasonably priced. We got queso as well and it was fine. Ive had better but it was decent. The waitresses were amazing and super attentive. Before leaving we asked for a refill for example and they put our drinks in large Togo cups without us asking. They have decent carne guisada plates!! And of course they have that green sauce that's made with jalapenos... like the Dona sauce at TacoDeli. Generous portions and the meat was tender! This go-a-round I opted for the Tex-Mex plate with 2 cheese enchiladas, a shredded chicken crispy taco, a beef tostada with rice and refried beans. I give it a 9 out of 10. Once again, hardly anyone, actually only one other patron and still I was only visited by my waiter ONCE! This time at least they were playing Latino music and that made for a much more enjoyable atmosphere. I plan to visit again and next time have a Taco Dinner. I'm so pleased I discovered this restaurant! To begin your meal, hot tortilla chips and salsa that has a solid kick are served. For me, I ended up with a solid burn that took a while to dissipate! My shredded chicken taco on corn tortillas was delicious. First, they used double tortillas. So smart! Next, the chicken was seasoned. This is key. So many average Tex-Mex/Mexican restaurants around don't do this. The chicken was also shredded extremely well and was tender. My chicken quesadilla was terrific too, thanks to the shredded chicken. The tortilla was grilled and the cheese was nice and melty. The only disappointment was the crunchy beef tacos. The beef was tasty--it was cooked with tomatoes and potatoes. However, when it was placed in the shells, it was put in without being drained. So, the shells became very soggy and fell apart. This was an oversight in the kitchen. They carry Mexican Coke (yay!), and the glasses are huge! They only provide one refill for soft drinks, but since the glasses are so big, a refill basically ends up giving you a total of 4 regular drinks. I look forward to returning. read more

I have to give props to La Tapatia. They have improved tremendously over the last 12-18 months. Staff are so much friendlier ave the food is always great. When we arrive, we are immediately seated which is a huge change from before. I don't know if management changed or what but the vibe is so much better and staff are much more friendly and attentive now. The food has always been great and now service matches. They charged us extra for onions added to the top of the enchiladas and for 3 flour tortillas. This is just not normal when it comes to other restaurants. When the waitress dropped off the check, she just pushed it down on the table and walked away. Most waitresses would say something nice so they can get a better tip. So, I've got a tip for these waitresses in here... Try being more polite, nice, and lively. read more

The Mexican food scene in Leander is unique taste wise. This location offers much of what all Mexican restaurants offer. We've visited for dinner and breakfast. They have many items with taste and a little bit of grease. The breakfast tacos are good and have generous portions. Two of my friend groups regularly meet at La Tapatia for breakfast. The staff never rushes us to order or to leave even though we may sit there for 2-3 hours. Great customer service. They never let your coffee cup go empty. The restaurant is clean, never loud, and seating is appropriately spaced so you are not listening to the conversations from other customers or bumping chairs. The food is always spot on and the portions are large. I've never had a dish at breakfast or lunch that wasn't fresh, hot, and delicious. They also have a nice bar so if you enjoy a Bloody Mary or Mexican Martini they can take care of that too. La Tapatia is definitely on 'My Keepers List'. read more

Located next door to HEB, La Tapatia is a quaint little Mexican restaurant that should be considered when those Tex Mex cravings are bubbling deep inside the soul. Located off of 183 N next to HEB, the restaurant can be easily overlooked however I warn against discarding those notions before giving it the good ole college try. Opening up the doors everything is authentic, no dollar tree prefab gimmicks are there just to plant a flag, claiming to be just like all other options out there. No this is the real deal with a warming atmosphere designed to invite the local cowboy to belly on up and take a load off. The server stand is directly in front and what appears to be a predominately family-owned business. The staff is quick to greet and seat everyone who enters and the place is extremely clean with a low noise level b/c of the high ceilings. My girlfriend ordered a margarita and I can't speak objectively about the drink as I haven't drunk "ta-kill-ya" since I was an underaged hombre in the early 90s, she loved it. It even comes with an extra jar full of the cocktail as I guess one glass isn't enough! The chips and salsa are pretty good with the salsa being on the slightly spicier side but tolerable to my sensitive palate. The waitress has a good timing, allowing us to munch on chips and salsa while indulging in cocktails, occasionally checking in on us to see if we were ready to order. We were already somewhat stuffed from dinner the night before so we ordered "small" as if anyone can do that at a Mexican restaurant. For an app we got the chicken nachos. I don't dig on beans so I got that on the side along with extra lettuce and tomato as I like mine with a ton of shredded iceburg. The cheese was perfect as it was real, melted cheese not that cheap Velveeta, imitation crap. The chips were on point, crispy not greasy with a hint of salt. The other ingredients were plentiful and all felt fresh. Definitely a winner in my book but not earth shattering in any regards. For our main plates, she ordered one of the cheese Verde enchiladas which I found outstanding. The warm corn tortillas were filled with gooey melted cheese and a sour cream salsa Verde. The flavors matched very well and I almost ordered another for myself but I'm trying to be a good boy and not overeat. But yes, it was that good. I ordered one barbacoa taco. I thought it was pretty good although a little heavy on the onions but otherwise well balanced with the lettuce and cilantro & a hit of lime. Btw, do not fear, the shredded meat was tender and moist, not like some other places where it's way to dry either from being over cooked or sitting out too long. The flour tortillas were thicker than expected but nonetheless tasty. Overall I rather enjoyed my experience here. The parking is easy and it's in a safe part of town with very humble patrons all around. The staff is extremely nice and accommodating in case you need something customized while being fast and timely. The food is satisfying and I have nothing but praise for the food I purchased. It's Sunday, so after church we go get our menudo fix. Today was particularly better. Whoever took the time to clean the meat (there's a process to menudo) was diligent about ensuring that it wouldn't smell when cooked. Although they messed up a little on my order, the new server was quick to fix it. The ladies may seem as if they don't care but they do.... They're just super busy. Weve befriended a few of them now. Mexican Martini $10 bucks, minus the $1 dollar for happy hour price. Limit 2 Mexican Martini, I can see why. Warm chips, spicy salsa. We split a dinner menu and still had food to take home. Some of the best breakfast tacos around Austin and I've had a lot of breakfast tacos over the years from the valley all the way through central Texas. And breakfast tacos in the valley are hard to beat, but they measure up here. Egg, Potato, Sauage, Bean, and Cheese (aka Q-Taco in the valley) is my go to but sometimes I get Bacon instead of Sausage. Once you get a breakfast taco from here, it'll be your go to as well. First, my rating doesn't reflect the food as much as the service. The food here is good consistently, I just recommend ordering for take out if you can. My husband and I walked out this afternoon after we sat there for fifteen minutes while it wasn't busy. Servers went to other tables and ignored us completely. We will only be going to the Cedar Park location from now on because it isn't the first time this has happened. If we want food from La Tapatia...again, we will drive the ten extra minutes to avoid supporting this location. I am disappointed with the lack of effort made by staff here. The staff is so kind they allow me to speak in Spanish with them (while I still face shame in some Austin establishments with my attempts). I have been three times and love the lunch special #9. Out for an adventure solo this round....Stopped in to grab a couple breakfast Tacos....There were at least 4-5 cop cars in the parking lot....I just smile, because its true what they say....if they are eating there, its good. I grabbed a Migas Taco and a Bacon, Egg and Cheese....Tacos were fat for a very fair price. Red Salsa is the bomb. Franchise store with staff that know their Trade. This is a Mexican food restaurant where all walks of life come to eat. Price is attractive and the setting reasonable. The menu is a cross of Tex-mex and Mexican aspects from fish soup, to breakfast tacos . Family friendly there is pretty much something for everyone. Everything is cook to order and at lunch it can get backed up. You can see police, EMS, Fireman, welders, construction workers, painters, moms and dads with family. Very much a community place to eat. I appreciate the wait staff - friendly and most have been with the store for over 10years. It has 5 stars for me as a moderate cost establishment that serves a wide range of tastes. Pro tip, lunch can get very full and long waits. We ordered the kids chicken and fries for our toddler. The kids meal came after the adult meals. First time in ten years of parenting I've ever seen that.. I went to cut my son's chicken into bites and cut into pure pink raw chicken. The server acted like it wasn't a big deal and took it back to make another one. The second definitely wasn't raw, burnt to a crisp. The fries however were nice and cooled as they were from the first plate with the raw chicken on it. Then to top it off they charged us for this plate. I paid the bill to get out of there as quickly as possible. I would recommend a dozen other Mexican restaurants in the area before this establishment. Definitely would not return. read more

As noted by most others, the low rating is mostly bc of service. It's one of those places where the servers spend as little time as possible in the floor and when they are out with customers, they only serve the food they bring from kitchen, avoid eye contact with all other patrons, and scamper back to the kitchen. Service a 2, Food was a 3, nothing special at all. Salsa looked promising but lacked taste, as did my migas and refried. Might get to go tacos someday but probably won't ever go back in just to wait 40 minutes to be served a mediocre breakfast plate. I really wanted to like it. read more
