Great Mexican food spot WITH A DRIVE-THRU!! Loves me a drive-thru. Stopped at El Rancho to try the tacos around 4pm on a drive back home from work because I'm still looking for something...anything that tastes like my hometown south Texas tacos. This still isn't the place, but I will say this food is sooooo savory and HOT!! I got three tacos, one carne guisada, one barbacoa and one asada ala Mexicana! The asada taco with all its bell peppers and onions and delicious juiciness were the bomb! I'd go back for those alone. The carne guisada was tasty (not quite like the ones back home), had a red gravy, I'm used to a more browner/grayish (I know sounds weird) gravy. But it had a lot of flavor that I'll probably be driving 20 or so miles outta the way for. I'll probably skip the barbacoa in the future (Juarez in RRTX has my vote for some pretty tasty barbacoa). The tacos are small but they're only like $3.85 each or something like that. A variety of small tacos is really all you need to fill you up especially for a quick road trip through Bertram. I look forward to stopping by for breakfast. Again, probably won't be like my tacos back home but still good and better than a lot of other places in the Austin and Austin metro area. Everything is BOMB! We can stop this review here. Lol. If you blink, you will pass this restaurant. Do not be deceived by its humble looks. ALL of the locals eat here and with good reason. The prices are amazing. The food is fresh and amazing also the service cannot be beat! It's pretty hard to find authentic Mexican food in Texas. Not the case at El Rancho. I've been here a handful of times now and each time is better than the last. The chicken enchiladas are my fave! Hubby loves the barbacoa tacos and the beef burrito. Tried this place in a recommendation from a friend. It was half hour away, but I've been in search of f Good Mexican food and not necessarily Tex/Mex. Boy, this place fit the bill! My group ordered the steak and shrimp, fajitas, enchiladas and the Alambras plate... wow! It was fantastic! The Alambras which is a mix of chicken, beef, bacon and cheese was outstanding. Great flavor and cooked to perfection! The Spanish rice was really good, and the refried beans, which I think had chorizo in it was great as well. My wife drove 30 minutes to pick up an order and they gave her the wrong order. She was half way home when they called her to go back. When she got back, it was over an hour and although she gave them the wrong order and they still didn't have her order ready. Said it would be another 15 minutes. She canceled the other and went home without any food. This is the last straw with this incompetent bunch of ignorant restaurantors. WE WILL NEVER EVER EAT AT EL RANCHO BERTRAM AGAIN. read more

The food was bland and meh. We wanted to try a few things so we ordered an enchilada plate that came with 4 enchiladas (beans, beef, chicken and cheese) & Lalo's favorite. Our adventure today was Enchanted Rock then on to Fredericksburg for some shopping....so breakfast was a must...we were gonna do a grab and go with some Tacos, but we decided to sit and eat...Really glad we did....Service was attentive and friendly. Wifes new fav is chorizo anything....So Eggs and Chorizo it was...not greasy at all, great flavor...bacon was crispy/good. I went with the Migas plate...Man...those beans were the bomb...We both liked the taters, tender yet crisp and a good flavor. My migas was filling. Also came with Fresh Flour Tortillias....Meal was the perfect fuel to tackle the mountain ahead of us. Will keep this on the map when traveling in the area. Food & service there is a hit and miss for me. Last time I've ate inside here the service was very slow, we sat our selfs down and didn't get served anything for 30 min. Then when we do finally get our chips and salsa a sheriff walks in saying his sweet tea taste very bad, come to find out my wife seen a worker pouring a lot of what they was sugar into the tea, only to find out they poured salt instead. Smh after that we both looked at each other and said "yeah we're out". I have visited it last weekend but the drive through and the food wasn't bad just took them a while to get it, so I would recommend the drive through. read more

Hows your coffee ? I arrived early for a dinner with family ! 2 cups of coffee early after the wait staff refilled my coffee out of a metal pitcher I found a rolled quarter inch piece of silver metal in my last cup... how's your coffee! read more

Super slow, very half-assed service & no attention to any semblance of quality. Used to be descent but I'll never be back to either local location on 29. My son got grilled cheese. (7 yrs old) and it was white barely toasted bread with a a cold unmelted cheese slice. I asked them to fix it. In 12 minutes they got it back to me about the same. Our family loves El Rancho! It's cheap and good. It's not the best Mexican food I've ever had- but the best for the money for sure! And one of the best in the area as well. We go there lots- probably 3-4xs per month and they are consistently good with good service. Their mini tacos are my favorite. My husband likes the faijitas. Great food and great service. We stopped in here for lunch on our way to Burnet for the Bluebonnet Festival. I had the 5 street tacos (2 carne Assad & 2 al pastor). They were served in doubles up corn tortillas with fresh cilantro and onion. Grilled onions, 2 large slices of avocado, and a couple of likes were served on the side along with charro beans. All for $7.50! My wife had nachos with fajita beef and she said they were delicious. They were served with refried beans, Guam, sour cream, jalapeños, and cheese (obviously). AVOID! Typical Mexican food selections but nothing special. Prices reasonable. Would leave customer service negative 5 Stars if possible. Waitress never once came to the table to check on us without us calling her over to ask for drink refills 3 times and then asked my husband if he needed anything even though his iced tea glass was empty. Wait staff was very unfriendly and acted like they just don't care if you're there, oblivious to customers they are responsible for. Stood up in the front prep section watching TV without looking over at the table. To wrap it up, the billing process is confusing and we felt like we were being held hostage. They couldn't find our order, the waitress didn't bring it to the table and the cashier had to dig through a stack of orders to get it. read more

This is a great spot for inexpensive but solid Mexican food in Bertram. Chips and salsa are put on your table before you order. And there are several vegetarian options on the menu. The service is also very attentive and friendly. Next time I'm there, I'll have to try their fried ice cream. hey also have another location in Burnet. read more

We wanted to try out the restaurants in Bertram as we are building a home in the area, and decided to try El Rancho first. I must say I was pleasantly surprised, as in my experience Mexican food in very small towns can be very hit and miss. The #27 burrito special was great, very flavorful shredded pork, with just the right amount of "bite" from the fresh jalapeños. My wife had the taco and enchilada combo, and thought it was very good also. The restaurant seemed clean and service was friendly. Glad to know we have a good place to go! read more

Okay, things have improved. They seem to have worked out better staff, more polite, not yet FRIENDLY but improved. The food is always good, hands down. Old review: Unfortunately there are only three places to eat in the town where we live and we LOVE good food. The food in this restaurant is below average to be generous but the main problem is the service. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE service. Never a smile (oh unless you eat here every day for the last hundred years, of course) I've been in there or through the drive thru AT LEAST 30-40 times (my husband really likes one thing on the menu...I love him so I tolerate this CRAP) and it's worse every time. I tip 20%!!!! They over charge me, throw in a couple of dollars for something they have never charged me for, frown at me when I catch them. Horrible rude beyond. Talk to the "manager" even worse. They HANG UP on you. God forbid you ask them to change something from the exact way it is written on the menu! They'll say "YES" and bring it the way they want it. From what We can surmise and the way we feel treated EVERY SINGLE TIME they HATE customers. I have eaten at this place a number of times. The food has been good and I have tipped 20 pct. I have always been polite and respectful. Today when I ate theire I asked my waitress if she could bring me a cup of hot water. I wanted it to dissolve a supplement I take,. I was informed there was no way they could bring me a cup of hot water. How hard is it to put a cup of water in a microwave or run some hot tap water? This place is definitely not Burger King. Passing through Burnet and stopped at this restaurant. They have the best authentic Mexican food. I had the carnitas torta which was so good but also wanted a barbacoa taco hands down one of the best I've ever had!! Would definitely stop back by. Staff was very friendly. read more

This is the worst restaurant ever! Rude people, can't get an order right to save their their lives! We ordered chicken fajitas, and 3 shredded beef tacos, got steak fajitas, and chicken tacos. Took them back and this time, instead of shredded beef tacos it was just steak chunks and onions on a tortilla! Husband is allergic to onions so we called again, asked to speak to manager, rude again, told him no onions, allergic to onions, he just handed the phone to server, she was rude and stupid, I went back to get the beef tacos, after waiting forever, she said sorry you didn't say no onions, we have to make it again. Who ever heard of a taco with just meat and onions, no cheese, lettuce, or tomato, just beef and onions? Finally I get the tacos, beef and cheese only, I take them home to eat my now stone cold fajitas, raw onions and peppers with overcooked chicken, and a long black hair in it, beef tacos mixed with hard as a rock burnt chunks of beef, nothing in the order was edible! 40 bucks, I'm sure we paid for the higher priced steak fajitas.
