If you want fresh, home cooked, farm to table, Italian food with an amazing view of the coast, this is the place to come! Just get ready to eat. And eat a lot. This is a skip breakfast and lunch type of place.
I actually come to this restaurant right as I got of the path of the gods. And after hiking all day I was hungry. Good thing too. Mama and Papa had an amazing spread all ready.
(Note that this is not an a la carte menu. Mama and Papa only make certain things that day and that's what you are getting. If you have special eating needs let them know right at the beginning before you get in to deep.)
We started off with a bottle of red and a bottle of white wine with homemade rolls. This was immediately followed by nine, yes nine, antipasti, which consisted of: chickpeas, kidney beans, peas, eggplant parmesan, buffalo mozzarella and prosciutto, potatoes and carrots, spinach, cauliflower, and broccoli with a macaroni casserole. All of it was incredible, but I knew right then I was in for the long haul.
Next (after a short break), the primi piatti came out. Thankfully this was only four plates of pasta (all homemade by Mama every morning): ricotta stuffed ravioli with pumpkin, pasta in an amazing zucchini sauce, gnocchi in a tomato sauce (small gnocchi, just incase you aren't the biggest gnocchi fan) and Mama's special pasta - no name (a flat pasta wrapped around ricotta and mozzarella in a tomato sauce).
The secondi piatti was a huge platter filled with fresh grilled meats. The meat is barely seasoned, but it is all cooked perfectly. We had chicken, beef, pork, rabbit, lamb, sausage and kebab. This "course" came with two contorni: think cut French fries and a heaping salad.
Just when you think you've had your fill, dessert comes to your table. Thankfully it is just one plate, of rich, delicious, homemade desserts. We had two slices of custard and chocolate pie, chocolate filled cream puffs in a chocolate sauce and two cream puffs covered in a creamy pistachio whip. This also came with a plate of fruit salad.
Naturally this feast of a meal is followed by Papa's homemade limoncello. If you're walking back down to Positano from here, you'll need it. Like our waiter said: "No limoncello - all stairs. With limoncello - no stairs!"
This meal is definitely the biggest bang for the buck. Only 35€ per person and that includes all the food and unlimited (to a point I'm sure) of their homemade wine. On Tuesdays they have dancing - to help offset the food. And if you're lucky enough you might just meet Mama and Papa! (Like I did) Best of luck! And enjoy your time. Sit and stay a while. Like most places in Italy, the table is yours for the night. read more
