Here's a polished review you could post: If you're looking for authentic Mexican food in Omaha, do yourself a favor and visit La Sierra. This family-owned gem brings the flavors of Durango, Mexico, to South Omaha with recipes and traditions that have clearly been passed down with love. Everything tastes homemade and made from scratch, from the fresh tortillas to the incredible drinks. (youtube.com) Our absolute favorite is the dried beef and egg gordita--it's packed with flavor and unlike anything you'll find anywhere else. The gorditas alone are worth the trip, but every dish we've tried has been amazing. The service is warm and welcoming, and you can tell this family truly cares about sharing their culture and food with the community. Authentic, delicious, and one of Omaha's hidden treasures. We'll be back again and again! read more

This spot is great all around. It's not your typical Mexican food but in a good way. They are Durango style which is very unique. Basically any protein you want you get in a taco, burrito, quesadilla, or Gorditas all in a hand made tortilla. The staff was ver helpful and talked me through the menu to make sure I understood what I was getting. They also have a bar if you'd like to have a drink. The food and service were both great I have no complaints and highly recommend! read more

Unique and everything was great. I would suggest a trip there. Friendly service. Sample a few things.

Whenever we're downtown, La Sierra is a must-stop, especially for the gorditas. The corn pockets are delicious, and we love filling them with machaca & egg, chorizo, or cheese. Since each gordita is on the smaller side, 2-3 together make a satisfying meal. We also tried their champurado -- warm, cozy, and just what you need on a chilly day. The place really feels like a little family-run gem: friendly service and a welcoming vibe every time. If you haven't visited yet....go! You won't regret it. read more

I can't speak more highly of this place. The owner was kind enough to explain the entire menu to us, and included the history of how La Sierra came to be. It felt homey inside, which I loved. If that wasn't enough reason to go, the food was AMAZING. I cleaned my plate entirely and I can't wait to go back. read more

Saw this place on tiktok and it did not disappoint. First time trying horchata and it's great. It was the texture of milk with a cinnamon taste, very good. Then I got the pork quesadillas with ancho sauce and it was very good as well. It wasn't very spicy at all which was nice. My sister got the deshebrada quesadilla which was beef, cheese and spicy red sauce and man was it hot. I want to say the red sauce they bring out is spicer but this was close. The tortillas are also very good as well. The service was great too, the staff helped us understand the menu and the food came out very quick. read more

I went on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty peaceful. I had the chicharron plate, which was indeed fairly spicy, but had a good texture and flavor. I also had an asada gordita, which were a bit thin for my preference but good nonetheless. You order your food at the counter and they'll bring it out to you, which for me only took about 15 minutes. read more

DO NOT eat here unless you want authentic, fresh 'real' mexican food with exceptional service. 1st visit here with my 107yo Mother. We frequented the 'Bohemia' area back in the 60's & 70's, so thought I would revisit the area. My choice for La Sierra was determined by the YELP & Google reviews which are exceptional. Upon entering, I believe Brenda noticed my unfamiliar surroundings, so she graciously came over to the table, brought menus and explained their process. We ordered the 'Potatoes with cheese Gorditas' and of course two beers..... :-) The food temp was just right and tasty. This place will for sure be on my eating out list when I revisit Omaha. Highly recommend. read more

Just found this place (how?!)...very good! I can't wait to try all the different options, and drinks! Today I went with the Asado Del Puerco quesadilla and a coke. Quesadilla was oozing with cheese and meat, perfect. Lady working the front counter was very kind, attentive, and even turned on College Football on one of the TVs when she saw me watching it on my phone. A+ for service. For $8, I was hoping the quesadilla came with beans/rice, but next time I'll make sure to ask. First time mistake. Definitely will be back! read more

Came in with friends and their family. Saw this on yelp and saw the gorditas which I can never find and had to check it out. This place did not disappoint!! From the moment we walked in we were greeted by a blonde woman who was just the sweetest, very knowledgeable about the menu and answered everyone's questions. My friends parents who aren't familiar with authentic Mexican food had alot of questions and she was so patient and kind to them! 5 stars just for her! Papas con carne Gordita 9/10 Picadillo roja Gordita 9/10 Quesadilla y pork 9/10 Deshebrada Gordita 10/10 Honestly everything was fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced with amazing hospitality. I would 10000% recommend this place and wish I could come back again and again. Sadly, I was just visiting but really missing my San Diego/Tijuana Mexican food and this hit the spot! read more

Yesterday we tried out La Sierra's hot dog truck! It's perfectly located right across the street from the full indoor restaurant. The guy working the truck was super nice and the service was quick. We got two hot dogs, wrapped in bacon topped with peppers, ketchup, mayo, onion, tomato, & pico de gallo. When I tell you this hit the spot - IT DID! So refreshing and filling. 11/10 would recommend! read more

I went for takeout several nights ago. Abby took my order and I paid. A minute or two later, I realized that I needed to add to the order - two Gorditas. When the order was ready, Angel brought it out to me. He is always so cheerful. I thanked him and left. Several blocks down the road, I realized that I did not pay for the additional two Gorditas. I made a U-turn and went back, embarrassed, and spoke to Abby. She refused payment. Then I tried to instead tip and she put her hand over the tip jar. She simply said, "please come back." I highly recommend this restaurant. The family is wonderful, and the food is perfect. Try them, you will be delighted! read more

Absolutely wonderful first time experience. The quality and authenticity of the food is second to none. The service and kindness of the staff stood out. My family and I came from KC to visit the zoo, and found this little place on Yelp. It is an authentic, family-owned place. The owner's daughter was the one taking our order at the counter, and was very patient and helpful as we looked over the menu. The ancho-chile pork that I ordered was the best thing I have eaten in any mexican restaurant, including the ones in Mexico. The depth of flavor was amazing. I wish they were closer to me, as I would eat this dish once a week if I could. The food that my family received was excellent as well, and the margaritas she made us were perfect. I can't say enough good things about this place, and will be sure to visit every time I'm in Omaha. read more

basic Duranguense style Mexican, very good. I have become brunch regular and usually have a platillo nopales con huevo (cactus & egg) or the chorizo along with a gordita on the side and flour tortillas. Excellent margaritas as well. read more

Excellent service, Clean, Friendly staff, and awesome food. Highly recommend. The gorditas, burritos, and quesadillas were all delicious.

Run to this establishment, don't walk! There are many great things to say about La Sierra. The interior is airy, well lit and clean. The owners are exceptionally warm, and passionate about their food. Oh, and the food is absolutely delicious! I had gorditas, and these little savory pastries filled with La Sierra deliciousness! The dough is buttery, soft and has a slight crisp. There are 10 filler options and after my first bite I literally wanted to try them all. I tied 4 different fillers and cannot say I had favorite because all of them were so good. Actually I tried 5 because the very sweet owner gave us a sample mini gordita with cactus and egg, YUM! I also had a desert empanada with peach which was delicious. Whether you order burritos, gorditas, empanadas or a plate I can promise you're going to love it. Go check out La Sierra today! read more

Do yourself a favor + eat here! I went for the first time a couple weeks ago and have already been back multiple times. The flavors are delicious, the smaller-than-you're-used-to burritos + gorditas are more filling than they look. The quality of the ingredients seems to be exceptional. The prices are great. The service is friendly and quick. The whole place has a vibe that is both humble + high quality. What a gem of a find in Omaha. read more

Picked up some burritos for a late breakfast Sunday & I thought they were really good! The spot is very small & can easily be overlooked. But it is very nice inside! Right next to Cascio's Steakhouse. The burritos are only $2.50 so they are small and don't have rice/beans like people usually think. They have delicious fillings, one of my favorites was rajas con queso. The chicharron with salsa is VERY spicy, so BEWARE! The deshebrada burrito was also good. You will probably need 3 or 4 burritos to get full. My parents have had their gorditas in the past & said they were also good (they prefer them over burritos). They have amazing carrot cake! Light & fluffy & the frosting was creamy & so yummy! ORDER IT! The empanadas are also really good! There are also fresh waters made from Hibiscus, horchata, & fruit. Great place to try something different. Lots of options for fillings for the burritos & gorditas. Friendly staff, I ordered ahead of time & they had my order ready when they said they would. Very authentic, family owned, tortillas are hand made with love. Food: 4 stars Price: 4 stars Service: 5 stars Cleanliness: 5 stars Overall Experience: 4 stars read more

This a very different sort of Mexican food place. It is Durango style food and I don't think there is anything else like it in town. I got a plate and it was all hot and fresh. It had a good spice even before applying the salsa. I missed the dessert but I will try them next time. They have beer, which is good. The prices are reasonable and nearly a bargain. The owners did a fabulous job with the remodel. Super cute. The owner is very friendly and a real go getter. I will be back to try more of their unusual dishes. read more

Wow! Why did we wait so long before we visited? The food was amazing. I had a pork burrito and a plate of rice and beans that were some of the best I have ever had in Omaha. I absolutely loved it! Establishment is clean & updated. Staff is super friendly and will patiently go over their menu with you.Food is just delicious! We had the picadillo rojo & verde gorditas, the potatoes & eggs gordita, rajas & queso gorditas. ALL absolutely delicious and bursting with flavor! I always forget to take a picture when they are whole, because I want to dive right in! My only "but" on this place would be that they are not the best at putting out communications as to when they are close. Nothing on FB or anywhere else. And they are close weeks at a time. I do like this place but being close for weeks like that, has to affect their business! read more

Drove by here and decided to give it a try. Glad we did!! Clean bright clean place. Family owned. Durango Mexico cuisine. My son and I had never experienced this before. The young lady explained what each was and you got to choose your filling! Lots of choices. All fresh made. I got the picadillo rojos quesadilla. My son got the Huevos chorizo platillo. She brought us out mini gorditas with cactus and eggs(their specialty). Never thought I'd like cactus. Who knew?! Yum. I cant wait to bring hubby! So worth it! SUPPORT LOCAL!! read more

Delicioso! We are in from out of town and we're thrilled to find a place with lots of vegetarian options and so much great flavor! We tried the papas con queso platter (very generous portions), the poblano con queso gordita (nice and cheesey) and the chicken quesadilla. The hostess was so patient and helped us decide what to get...and even brought us samples of cute tiny egg/cactus gorditas! Thanks for a great meal and welcoming service! A Mexican restaurant with food from the State of Durango, Mexico that was exceptionally flavorful that is well worth your visit. The food was served hot in a timely manner. We had a bit of everything from the menu and it was all very good. The food and drinks are all made from scratch - no sauces. I particularly enjoyed the margarita mixes. Not too much sugar and just the right amount of lime juice. I'll be back for sure. read more

Great place wonderful server. Yummy food. Everything had a a great taste. Shredded beef was perfectly spicy.

This little gem is so amazing! Number one, the nicest people you will meet, the interior is simple and welcoming, and the FOOD. Real Durango Mexican cuisine. Puffy Gordita shells filled with delicious meats. No cheese and lettuce or sour cream here. No need because the flavors speak volumes. I usually start with 2 Gorditas, 1 burrito and the perfect rice and beans. Brenda leaves our tab open if we need more, like the Mexican Hot Dogs they sell in a trailer across the street! So good, everything about this delightful place is perfection. Go. Now. Enjoy! read more

This is a true hidden gem. Their food is Durango style, something a little different in the vast mix of traditional Mexican restaurants. I ordered a burrito with picadillo and a gordita with papas con carne. They were both piping hot, fresh & delicious.
