This spot is great all around. It's not your typical Mexican food but in a good way. They are Durango style which is very unique. Basically any protein you want you get in a taco, burrito, quesadilla, or Gorditas all in a hand made tortilla. Saw this place on tiktok and it did not disappoint. First time trying horchata and it's great. It was the texture of milk with a cinnamon taste, very good. Then I got the pork quesadillas with ancho sauce and it was very good as well. It wasn't very spicy at all which was nice. My sister got the deshebrada quesadilla which was beef, cheese and spicy red sauce and man was it hot. I want to say the red sauce they bring out is spicer but this was close. I also had an asada gordita, which were a bit thin for my preference but good nonetheless. We frequented the 'Bohemia' area back in the 60's & 70's, so thought I would revisit the area. My choice for La Sierra was determined by the YELP & Google reviews which are exceptional. Upon entering, I believe Brenda noticed my unfamiliar surroundings, so she graciously came over to the table, brought menus and explained their process. We ordered the 'Potatoes with cheese Gorditas' and of course two beers..... :-) The food temp was just right and tasty. This place will for sure be on my eating out list when I revisit Omaha. Just found this place (how?!)...very good! I can't wait to try all the different options, and drinks! Today I went with the Asado Del Puerco quesadilla and a coke. Quesadilla was oozing with cheese and meat, perfect. Lady working the front counter was very kind, attentive, and even turned on College Football on one of the TVs when she saw me watching it on my phone. A+ for service. Yesterday we tried out La Sierra's hot dog truck! It's perfectly located right across the street from the full indoor restaurant. The guy working the truck was super nice and the service was quick. I went for takeout several nights ago. Abby took my order and I paid. A minute or two later, I realized that I needed to add to the order - two Gorditas. When the order was ready, Angel brought it out to me. He is always so cheerful. I thanked him and left. Several blocks down the road, I realized that I did not pay for the additional two Gorditas. I made a U-turn and went back, embarrassed, and spoke to Abby. She refused payment. Then I tried to instead tip and she put her hand over the tip jar. She simply said, "please come back." My family and I came from KC to visit the zoo, and found this little place on Yelp. It is an authentic, family-owned place. The owner's daughter was the one taking our order at the counter, and was very patient and helpful as we looked over the menu. The ancho-chile pork that I ordered was the best thing I have eaten in any mexican restaurant, including the ones in Mexico. The depth of flavor was amazing. I wish they were closer to me, as I would eat this dish once a week if I could. The food that my family received was excellent as well, and the margaritas she made us were perfect. The owners are exceptionally warm, and passionate about their food. Oh, and the food is absolutely delicious! I had gorditas, and these little savory pastries filled with La Sierra deliciousness! The dough is buttery, soft and has a slight crisp. There are 10 filler options and after my first bite I literally wanted to try them all. I tied 4 different fillers and cannot say I had favorite because all of them were so good. Actually I tried 5 because the very sweet owner gave us a sample mini gordita with cactus and egg, YUM! Right next to Cascio's Steakhouse. The burritos are only $2.50 so they are small and don't have rice/beans like people usually think. They have delicious fillings, one of my favorites was rajas con queso. The chicharron with salsa is VERY spicy, so BEWARE! The deshebrada burrito was also good.You will probably need 3 or 4 burritos to get full. My parents have had their gorditas in the past & said they were also good (they prefer them over burritos). They have amazing carrot cake! Light & fluffy & the frosting was creamy & so yummy! ORDER IT! The empanadas are also really good! There are also fresh waters made from Hibiscus, horchata, & fruit. This a very different sort of Mexican food place. It is Durango style food and I don't think there is anything else like it in town. I got a plate and it was all hot and fresh. It had a good spice even before applying the salsa. I missed the dessert but I will try them next time. They have beer, which is good. The prices are reasonable and nearly a bargain. Ate at La Sierra for the first time tonight and it was so good! Small, straightforward menu and full bar. We tried three different gorditas and a plate. The food is great! Fresh. Flavorful. Homemade. The spicy shredded beef is so delicious and it's spicy! If you like spicy food try the shredded beef. To top it all off, we had homemade strawberry empanadas. The empanadas melt in your mouth. Here's what we ordered and would recommend each dish. Gordita's: -Rajas con queso (poblanos and cheese) -Deshebrada (shredded beef in spicy red sauce) -Asado de puerco (pork in ancho pepper sauce) Plate: Picadillo Verde (poblano pepper with ground beef and homemade flour tortillas) Margaritas (these are not the sweet cocktails you find around town. The drinks are Mexico style and are lime forward. We had the House infused with cucumber and a regular with a Tajin rim instead of salt) Empanadas: Strawberry Apricot Lastly, the restaurant is very clean and the service was fantastic.
